I just noticed the capacitive buttons on the bottom of the phone are not lighting up. Is there a setting for this or does my phone have a glitch?
If purchased online can it be swapped at a Tmobile store?
The phone hasn't been rooted yet.

You probably came from the Vibrant with its capacitive buttons with their lights that always turn on. On the mt4g, they only turn on when it's dark enough to need them.
My bad on the capacitive thing. The buttons never light up though, even in the dark.

Does anyone find it annoying that the bootom back, home and search keys do not stay lit up?
I've been looking for a setting that would at least allow it to be dimmed but thats been a no go. I just find it hard to find the buttons with no visual cue nor any physical at that, It almost feels as if Im guessing the location.

Mine don't stay lit up. But coming from a Samsung Fascinate which also has lighting time-out issues, I just sort of waved my hands at it...
They will light back up once you touch one, so you could just run your finger over the search key since that has the least chance of knocking you out of wherever you are...
I never have problems finding the buttons at night. I actually like that they turn off. Makes the phone look cleaner if your using it in the dark.

Agree, I've not had an issue finding them when not lit either. Doesn't bother me at all.
The keys lot staying lit is a Samsung thing. They do the same on the Galaxy S phones like the Epic, Captivate. It was annoying on those phones and yes it is annoying on this phone as well. Yes I agree they should be lit all on the time.

They are spaced far enough apart so being lit isn't that big of deal for me but I wouldn't mind seeing them lit.
I like that they aren't lit all the time.
Hello aslamoalikim
I have been using the one for few weeks now coming from Samsung note 2 I noticed one screen is less senstive
Sometime I have to press twice or thrice for a function especially back or home button
Is it just me or can I tweak settings?

The back and home buttons aren't the screen, but yes some people say that the touch area for those buttons is too small. Nothing can be done yet

I Am seeing this more of an issue, even on the screen itself,
HTC one seems to have a lag on whole screen?

Send it back then cos mine doesn't have anything like it(lag, double touches etc)
The back and home touch areas are quite small but once you get used to it it's a non problem.
mine doesnt have any 'Lag' issues on the screen, infact i find the sensitivity better and more responsive than my 'One X'. However, your right, the capacative touch buttons 'Home and Back' have a small touch area and i feel that i do have to be quite precise when touching them, which in fact i feel is better, because when i was in an app or something on my 'One X' i found that it was so easy to accidently touch one and come out or back to the home screen.
I recently bought a Note 3 (very excited about the device), and once i got it, i started playing around with it. The capacitive buttons were working fine and were only lighting up whenever i touched the sides of the home button (as they should). After some time with playing around with the phone, i decided to install Nova Launcher just to check it out and see how i liked it (i was running the standard touchwiz before). The first thing i noticed with Nova Launcher was that once it was running, the capacitive buttons would light up every time i touched the screen. If i went to unlock the phone, they would light up. If i swiped to go to another home screen, they would light up. If i scrolled a webpage in the browser, they would light up. This really irked me, and so i decided to uninstall Nova Launcher (hoping this would make the buttons light up normally again). However, i have not found the solution to this issue. I don't want to completely disable the capacitive buttons so they don't light up even if i press them. I simply want to go back to the standard capacitive button routine where they light up only when i touch them, not whenever i touch the screen.
Can anyone please help me fix this issue? Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

I have looked into that already, but my issue isn't the time limit. My time limit is at the standard 1.5 seconds (which it has always been at), the issue is that the capacitive buttons light up whenever my finger touches the touchscreen, and i want to go back to the buttons only lighting up whenever i actually touch them next the home button.
Yeah they will light up when you touch the screen, it's been like that for a while now. Mine does it to.
EDIT::
Actually mine doesn't do it all the time only sometimes, - disable it then clear cache and clear default launcher then try it again

When do the capacitive buttons light up for you? I did all of that and it doesnt seem like anything changed, and i even did a settings reset through the menu.
I have the 6 second time set on mine, they light up when I use certain apps, or text msgs via hangouts - I use a kitkat launcher too

When I touch the screen they light up as well...

What confuses me is this article then:
" connect(dot)dpreview(dot)com/post/7967117746/ "
If you scroll to the third paragraph in the subheading "Body & Design", it says:
"To the left and right of the home button you'll find two more capacitive buttons but they only light up when touched"
This is what i thought was true to - that the buttons only light up when you touch them, not when you touch the screen.
Strange - Mine only light up when I touch them.
Does anyone know if the capacitive buttons are supposed to light up when you press the screen? It seems like different people have different situations of when the buttons light up.

They only light up when I touch the buttons or turn on the screen when the phone is locked.

Capacitive button lights (EASY FIX)
Make sure the power save mode is off
So there's a menu entry under the display menu for keypad lighting, but flipping the toggle seems to do nothing and there's no mention in the manual. So is this for non existent backlighting for the capacitive buttons at the bottom?
Been wondering the exact same thing since I got the phone last night!
Waiting on an answer for this lol.

Same here, got it yesterday and at night or dark places for some reason I thought it will automatically light up, but not...
Ok, that makes 4 of us, Lol.... I have NO IDEA what that is for either, and don't see anything different with it on or off?
It may be an unused option for this model but intended for use with the 6gb model that had true capacitive keys. The keys on this model were a last minute addition.
Is it possible to have it work with an update?
Seeing as how the capacitive keys were a last minute addition and the device lacks the hardware to light up, I doubt it.
That is, if that is what the option is even for.
They are painted on, do not light up, there are no lights underneath it to make it light up!
I guess if it is true that other models will be getting the backlit capacitive buttons, then that might make me wait to get another model (hopefully with similar band-support as the NA model) and then trying to unlock the bootloader to get some legit English-based ROM like CM on it.
One can dream, right?
... if not... then these little (but significant) corner cutting issues are going to kill this phone for me unfortunately

It went away after an update or two. Turns out it was some old code from the Chinese version which does have backlit buttons.

I'm amazed that they even removed them in the first place... If they weren't going to remove the bezel where the buttons were, why would they remove the buttons?

so. i am currently replacing my phone screen and noticed i have a ribbon missing on my new display. i think that this was the case with yours too. from what i have found that is the connector for the capacative button lights. updates wont do anything in that case
