Various Questions (Radio Streaming, FTP, MSN and Skype) - Desire HD General

Hi all,
Will be hopefully picking up my Desire HD tomorrow or Friday and wondering if someone could point me in the right direction for:
1) Live streaming Radio App. I want to be able to stream a live radio station in MP3 (and if poss, AAC+ formats) directly (when I mean directly, enter the URL of the stations stream, not via a thrid party). Also, can anyone confirm that any one of these particular apps will definately support streaming from a Shoutcast server.
2) Is there an app (im sure there is) that will allow me to use MSN chat?
3) Are there any FTP apps out there, I sometimes need to up/download small files via FTP.
4) Skype. Is there a Skype client for Android? I currently use Fring that covers this and also my point number 2.
5) Mail. What is a good email app for POP accounts and have it check every 10 or 15 mins and notify me of any new emails?
Finally, what is the opinion on the battery performance, I know there is another thread going on about it, but with reasonably high usage throughout the day, will it get me from 7AM to 6PM without failing?
Thanks for your time!

I've been googling around about running Skype on Android and can confirm that there is a mobile version of Skype for Android smartphones
Here's a list of FAQs on "How do I use Skype on my Android phone"

I'd like to lay down a challenge...

Hey all,
We're currently evaluating WinMo devices to replace blackberries in our company... thus far the results have been a mixed bag to say the least.
I look after an exchange 2003 environment (SP2) so we're push-email ready, however there's one big thing holding us up - IM.
On the blackberries, we use something called Blackberry Messenger which is capable of both online and offline messages, and pretty infallible. It runs in the background and whenever a user is online handles the sign-on and message delivery, likewise if a user is offline the network queues the message until they're back online.
I can't find anything like this for windows mobile, can anyone suggest soemthing I'm missing? until I have this we're stuck with blackberry...
TIA
German T-Mobile is offering a BlackBerry Software Addon for the MDA Vario - I started a thread a while back right here in the forum.
Since I have no use for Blackberry, etc. I have not installed/used it. But maybe its what you are looking for.
The only way to do (online) IM now on WM5 devices is via PocketMSN I think.
Dont know any alternatives (especially that can handle offline IM).
I'm new here, but....
I know on the PC there is a program that handles offline messaging and it is available on the PocketPC now too. It's called ICQ. You can send a message offline and the person will receive it when they logon.
http://www.icq.com/download/ftp-pocketpc.html
Lemme know if that's what you're looking for.
you can use Agile Messenger.. Lets you use AIM/ICQ/Yahoo/MSN IM accounts. There's a thread someone in here that has the info on it.. just search the forums for Agile Messenger.
You might want to contact Jabber and work out somemthing with them, the idea's mentioned above are good but I know you need something internal (not somthing that has potential use for (ab)use/danger)

Any day now, M$ is gonna release mobile office connect. If you use office connect already this will move the IM client out to WM5.
You can try Saki,
It has the features you mentioned as well as integrated email, RSS feeds, and others. I know a company that chose to use this software and wizards instead of Blackberries.

Let's not forget Microsoft's Live Communication Server (LCS) 2005 with the office communicator SIP client.

What Do You Do With Your Herald/Wing?

Hey guys,
I was kinda bored and i asked myself: What do those guys do with their device?
So i kinda posted a new thread.
Please share what you do with your device.
Im using my herald for work. Appointments, notes, TomTom. All that kinda stuff.
Moderators, you can make this sticky if you want. It's just a thought.
I use it for the phone and the calender (PI8) and the camera and the alarm clock (SPB time) and the generally customizable awesomeness so i can change what i use it for whenever i want.
THAT was a lot of "and".
I used my phone (and hope to use it again because of bricking) for lots of stuff. The most important issue is the phones basic features communication (of course) SMS, the phone itself, recieving Emails trough my private Wlan, also to-do-lists and appointment planning.
Second comes the awefull translator from plecosoft Chinese<->English with character recognition, I think it's a MUST for every chinese language student.
Another funny gimmick for university is to control your laptop through the Herald via Bluetooth. Great for Powerpoint, cause the Herald's touchscreen acts like a computer mouse.
Oh, I forgot Mortplayer for Mp3's and my favorite Video-Podcasts (tough you have to transcode them before viewing).
I use mine to pick up chicks.

I would have never thought of that, but that's a great idea. I use my phone for a lot of texting, gaming, music, movies, internet surfing, and weather updates.
I use my phone for work, ie... contacts and appointments; I also flash about once a week for cool customizations. I try and keep up on all the coolest apps to show off to my friends that paid for a "locked" iphone.
i use it for work and fun i also use it to my laptop as a modem
does tom tom work for the wing?
I use it to do lots of things, the least of which is use it as a phone ahaha.
It's more of a mobile internet and news source for me, I have some games on it (Guitar hero etc)
And I like customizing my themes
It all has to match
Which is pissing me off cuz I don't have the time to make a nice mobile shell theme
All kinds of things
For work: Exchange Push Email/contacts/calendar, Google Maps, VPN access (OpenVPN), Remote Desktop and SSH (Pocket PuTTY), SMS/MMS for network monitoring alerts. Mileage and expense tracking. And voice calls.
Personal: Checks 4 email accounts, weather radar, games, checkbook/cash tracking, stream XM Radio via Internet, MP3 player, severe weather alerts via SMS/MMS. And voice calls.
Watching porn... jk
Use it for a bit of everything

weather radar you say? =o
on the internet or a program? *finding...*
Hmmm...
Good question... Here are the things that immediately jump to mind:
Internet browsing
E-mail
Weather
Streaming talk radio
Telnet / SSH / RDP
TomTom / G.Maps / Live for Navigation
WiFi Site Surveys
Fring for VoIP / IM
Contact and Calendar sync
Remote Control and Notification for LinuxMCE Media / Security Network
And, occasionally, I even make or receive a phone call or SMS...

[Q] Alternative Skype IM client for WinMo6.1 Diamond?

Hi,
I have installed Skype 2.2 for Windows Mobile Professional (Pocket PC) on my Telus Diamond.
I don't use Skype for VoIP, I use it for the messaging. My gripe with this Skype is it puts a tag line that says something on how I'm using Skype without a PC and on a mobile with a "Learn More" link. I don't like that tagline. I can't even seem to change it. For example, my Skype is logged in at my work PC, and I want to log in from my phone as well.
I want the tagline to show as the one that's on my PC's Skype.
The other issue with this is, it doesn't go away on idle or anything like that. And as you can see, the Skype provided to Mobile users is very stripped down to a basic IM client.
No auto away on idle of 5 mins, no chat window being opened or sound or vibe or any notification when IM'd (The only way you know you got messages is when you open your Skype client, you'll see your tab "Chats" highlighted, the stupid tag line.
Hence, I'm looking for an alternative client that might be available for WinMo6.1 that allows all of what I'm looking for.
Any help would be appreciated.

Does it provide IM for Skype you think?
I'll give it a try.
Installed it, tested it, removed it.
It plasters the tagline, and every message sent on Skype also has a signature. Agh!
Thanks for pointing me to it though, appreciate it.

Yet another GPS application for WindowsMobile - ReliRescue

Hello friends,
I know that the internet is overloaded by GPS applications for Windows Mobile,
so I was wondering if this publication is worth the shot.
Here is a link to a Windows Mobile GPS application (which I wrote), that can do SMS, email notifications, track recording, sending recorded tracks (KMZ) to email, Geocaching, mapping (when online), statistical track analysis, and few other things.
I use it for sporting activities (aerial sports, though It fits any kind of sport you do).
I have been working on it for quite a while and it is free for use.
I’d be glad to get your feedback to my email (noted in the about screen).

Legend help questions

Hi all,
So i managed to outright buy a Legend here in Australia and its not out yet here so there no local news from phone stores or info or help i can get from friends or family since they either use Iphone or old school Nokia's
I love the Legend, its got everything I need half of that is potentially what i need.
I have a few questions, i made a big jump from a standard Nokia phone to a smartphone. The legend stood out for me and while I have a 10mega pixel camera and a flip HD video recorder, this phone replaces these devices and not the missus owns these devices while i have my new slick phone
Only had this phone for 3 days and theres a lot of work to do, i managed and figured out how to setup internet with my pre paid provider, link the facebook accounts with my sim contact, gmail account i haven't used in years (I prefer hotmail) but that is set up.
so a few questions
1) How do i get yahoo and hotmail emails setup like Gmail (or it cannot be done that way?) its asking for a POP3, IMAP account and i tried Windows pop3 settings and no luck.
2) alternative are there any good apps for yahoo and MSN Live messengers that way i have access to the inbox of these respective accounts? Or better..is there an app to have all messengers accessible in the one app?
3) i have 2GB card inserted so when i mount the storage and place a video file either on the root of the SD or created a new folder and put it in, i can't seem to find this file
4) Is there any must have apps i should have? any recommendations
5) Is there something else i should know about this phone? maybe an option im not aware over and you've just figured out how or where?
Thanks!
3) i have 2GB card inserted so when i mount the storage and place a video file either on the root of the SD or created a new folder and put it in, i can't seem to find this file
Normally I put the video in /DCIM/100MEDIA/ directory. Legend doesn't read Divx file, maybe only the software yxflash can do (you'll find it on android market
4) Is there any must have apps i should have? any recommendations
A lot. Astro, Goggles, webcam widget,etc.etc. There are some forums even in xda-developers dedicated to apps.
5) Is there something else i should know about this phone? maybe an option im not aware over and you've just figured out how or where?
Battery life is depending by yr provider (2G or 3G), WIFI and sync. Try to switch off WIFI if you don't use, switch to 2G if you don't need fast speed, stop sync if you don't need to be updated minute by minute. It'll save yr battery life and elongate from 8-10 hours to 1-2 days.
