UAstring missing in Browser options - Vibrant General

does anyone knows how to set the User Agent in the stock 2.2 browser?
the SGS tools one does not work.
Thanks

Havent tried manual ua string change in 2.2, but in 2.1 its fc city.

If you type "about:debug" in the url of the stock browser then go into settings>advanced you will have the option to change the UA string from Android to Desktop or Iphone.
One caveat: When I was running stock Tmob Eclair 2.1 after changing to 'Desktop' I wasn't able to open the browser anymore - kept give me some error and had to force close. I had to go into recovery mode. This was when I first got the phone btw so I didn't really know what I was doing. I just use Dolphin now which allows you change UA string in settings or via toolbar plug-in.
Anyone esle have experience with the "about:debug" tweak?

The problem is that in 2.2 that UAString is not there even after the about:debug

Same thing happened to me.
Even in debug mode, the UAstring option does not appear on stock android browser.
I guess it depends on the rom that I use.
Previosly I was on JPO v8 (Doc's firmware) And i had the UAstring option even if debug was disabled. I changed to BUJP8 v9 (Doc's firmware) and yesterday I was trying to find the option and it is not there.
Kind of annoying.

I posted a thread on this ages ago. About:debug is broken on stable 2.2's use about:useragent. Just set it Everytime you want to use it.

Persistant input settings

Hello,
I hope someone here who like digging around in the universal might have a solution for this, maybe a regestry hack or something:
What I want is to be able to set the input setttings for different phone modes, i.e. if in portrait mode and the phone app showing then default to the phone keypad with t9, if in portait mode in any other app default to the transcriber, when in landscape then it defaults to the transcriber.
Does anyone here know how to do this or if there is an app that already does it?
Cheers
Morituri: I made a program called SIPSwitch that might help you out.
It's very dumb, but basically it lets you launch a SIP from a shortcut.
It's not the neatest solution, but assign each sip you want to a different hardware key and launch each as required.
Or use a folder full of different sip shortcuts and launch from a launcher, eg smallmenu etc.
I'll rewrite SIPSwitch to be a bit more useful some day
V
Thanks for the reply, i'll give it a go, where can I get it from?
Anyone have any idea when to get the above S/W?
Morituri: I hate to be an idiot, but did you try searching on the forum?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=26586&highlight=sipswitch
or google?
reading through your message again, want you want to do is have the sip change every time you screen rotate?
SIPSwitch is a manual software to let you change the sip on demand. So you can have it force changing the SIP to "transcriber" etc when you press a key.
Work I did yesterday on the VGA phone dialler for the Universal
http://forum.xda-developers.com/vie...ghlight=&sid=f803b79a223bff6957cb8958199cec2c
shows how to implement software that can change settings on a screen rotation.
SIPSwitch could be modded to do the same, so it would switch SIP on rotation.
Is there any call for this?
V
I think "PQz" might do what you want...
http://www.nicque.com/PQz/
Lets you specify default SIP for portrait vs landscape modes. Haven't tried it yet though.
Matt S.
Yeah, I looked at that but haven't yet tried it.
What I want, and what should be standard, is that you can choose what SIP is default to which app, i.e. I like to use phone pad in portrait mode when sending a SMS. It should be able to remember that setting.

PIE as default browser and on TF3D Internet tab

I hate to admit it, prolly a terrible character flaw... but I can't learn to love Opera!
Anyone know which manilla file to edit to get IE launching from the TF3D Internet tab? (with PIE favourites/bookmarks too preferably)
I have already made PIE the default browser, but this doesn't affect the TF3D tab.
(I used Darkness's Fix IE.cab)
I had the same problem : I prefer NetFront than Opera and i used :
I use : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2400995&postcount=1
Elodie--done that -- it worked for changing the browser in TF3D. Any body have a clue how to change the default on the hardware keyboard key to open PIE instead of Opera? It is the FN setting on the key that would normally open the symbol screen.

Opera 10 Beta

I have just downloaded and started to use Opera 10 Beta. Gotta say that it is a fantastic browser, definitely a step forward from 9.7. There is practically no 'checker board' when browsing pages and it is super smooth, seems to use less memory too so i would recommend it to anyone.
One problem though is that the zoom bar doesn't work on the D2. Not suprised to be honest but does anyone know of a simple fix? I know there was a fix for 9.7 on the LEO ROM's so maybe someone knows if that will work for 10.
Also the browser doesn't rotate anymore when the phone is put in landscape? But agree with #1, looks like an improvement!

the same for me
Didn't like
I didn't like the beta and uninstalled it because the rotate and zoom didn't work. I have the HTC Pure. But now when I click on the internet button which used to pull up opera, it pulls up internet explorer. How can I switch that back to opera. I can still get to the old opera but through the start menu, so I know it is still on the phone. Is there a customizer to do that?

No problems for me
Which ROM are you using? I'm on Duttys R0 HG Sense 2.1. Would like to get to the bottom of this as it is only accessing certain forums that is causing freezes on my phone.
no problems here. I am writing this message from opera 10. I am using dutty's hgr3
For those that want to add the zoom bar to opera it can be done as follows:
First Create the following registry keys
- Open [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\SmartTouch\Opera]
- Set String "ClassName"="Opera_MainWndClass"
- Set Dword "Mode"="4"
- Set Dword "WheelCount"="10"
Second Edit the "input.ini" (located in \windows\opera10)
- Change "Right = Zoom in, 10"
- Change "Left = Zoom out, 10"
- Change "Down = Zoom in, 10"
- Change "Up = Zoom out, 10"
restart your device, all should be good

Input.ini is in "Program Files/Opera Mobile 10/Profile"
And it's not so easy to get it working...
yes can you please confirm this works with the hardware zoombar rumpleforeskin? I looked in input.ini (in Program Files/Opera Mobile 10/Profile) And there are many entries for Right= etc. Which ini section should this be added to? In [Browser Widget]?
It's using Mobile View in the settings that breaks this version for me. Desktop view was fine when browsing xda forum.
Also I have seen that Opera 10 doesn't work well setting Mobile view.
I also have another problem, when I active Opera 10 from the internet tab touchflo, it send the following error:
Could not open file "file://localhost/home"
After if I overwrite this address with a correct url, Opera run very well.
Anybody knows how to solve this annoying error?

rumpleforeskin's idea doesn't work, also there is no "Opera" in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\SmartTouch, there's "Opera Browser", dunno if it makes any difference
Where exactly do I put the Right/Left etc? the input.ini file has more sections, as wineds said.
Opera 10 Beta - lacking Zoom bar functionality not a problem
I've been trying the Opera 10 beta and have found that the lack of zoom bar functionality isn't an issue. Double-clicking on a page automatically zooms the browser to the right size for the body of text under the area double-clicked.
It actually is better that the default installation which I had to manually keep zooming to make the text fit.
Big +1 for this beta version on the TD2.
James.

nook salchicha, some glitches...

I rooted the nook using the salchicha nooter, however I have found some glitches
1) Gmail app, when I try to compose an email it just quits after I have typed about 20 characters, its not a timing issue, is about the number of typed characters
2) Google talk, I just see the top two rows of the keyboard.
Am I the only one seeing this? I have 2 NST and I can repro this on both devices.
Thanks!
disclaimer: I would have typed this in the devs forum but the system wants me to 10 times here before I can post in the devs section :-(
I notice the same exact issues
I rooted with the manual procedure, gtalk has the same bug, but Gmail works fine.
As met67 said Gmail works correctly, Gtalk dosnt. Rooted and installed Gapps using the manual method, and lately the MinimalTouch.
Is there a way to repair this bug? Does it happen in NookToucher root as well?
I know the topic is a bit old, but there was no sense in making a new similar one.
Try installing GO keyboard.
I'm using SalsichaNooter and my Gmail works fine, but I had the same problem with Google Talk. Install Go Keyboard (u gotta have andorid installed somwhere else or else You won't see the text in preference and will be stuck with default settings) or install Hackers keyboard (modified vesrion for android 2.1).
Look this topic up for installing keyboard: (my post with instruction is on the second page)

SMS Return Key - TyphooN CyanogenMod 7.2.0.1 v3.8.7

Hi there,
I'm new with TyphooN CyanogenMod 7.2.0.1 v3.8.7 an I really like It.
But there is one thing with SMS that I don't like.
I need sometimes the "new line" function. That what happens if you use the Enter ( Return ) Key.
Is there a way to get the Return Key into the ALT menu?
Like in the Pictures attached.
The left Picture is the normal version.
The right Picture is what I want.
Can anybody help me to get this working?
With Kind regards
Aod
If its not featured by your keybord, try another one.
I´m using this one.
I think it is only a "problem" caused by the sms/mms app.
Because the return key is in some other apps available.
Is there nobody who can make this little change in the app?
So that the return key is in the ALT menu? Like in the screenshot postet above?
Dude... its a keyboad thing.
It works with the keyboard I posted above!
So...
I have downloaded HTC_IME_Hi22_Grey.apk and installed it.
After the installation I go to Settings -> Language and Keyboard
and set there the "arrow" on "HTC_IME mod"
But It is not working. I still have the default keyboard in every app
EDIT:
Okay, I found the Problem. In the SMS app I had to chose the new Keyboard.
It is working now. Thanks for your help

just go into keyboard settings, i remember there was an option there. and you should acces the settings from the keyboard itself, by long-pressing a key( for me it is the , key) and not by going to settings
I got the same problem, but (for me) it seems to be a rom problem and I do not want to change the keyboard since I use neo-layout with ASK and with that keyboard it worked:
In my previsious rom ICS Paranoid Android I had an option in the sms app which allowed me to get a new line when hitting enter.
Now with JB PA (great Rom btw ) that option is gone (the enter key is still there but directly sends my message). Also tried to load a backup of the sms app via Titanium but no success.
My problem is that I am not yet allowed to post in dev forums but maybe you also got an idea?
