I flashed his ROM (Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo (RLS3)) two days ago and had issues with enabling 4G. I would go into the Settings, Wireless Networks and enable it but it would automatically uncheck after 4 seconds.
I have SwitchPro widget (I would imagine any utility widget will work) and placed a 4G widget on the home screen. I enabled it and then went into Settings and Manage Networks and saw that it was authenticating. I was able to connect to 4G and stay on it with no issues. This is a fix for people out there who may be having the same issue.
Note:
I brought it up in the actual Myn's thread in the Rom & Dev section but the trolls got annoyed that I was reporting this issue and crowding the thread because they claimed the issue was due to Sprint's outages.
If that worked for you, then it wasn't the rom, that's a switchpro bug.if you have switch pro installed, you have to use it to turn on 4g, then you can turn it on and off through settings. This will happen with any rom. If I wasn't on the phone I'd point you to some threads on the issue.

Wait isn't it ROM problem? I've used Fresh's and it never did that.

If you use the HOT reboot, it does not automatically reset 4G properly all of the time.
This is a known issue with the Program off the market as well.
If your 4G won't properly enable, just do a hardware reboot (not hot reboot).

It just started in the last switchpro update. Essentially, it acts as a main switch. so you've got to turn the master on before you turn 4g off and on through settings, or just use switchpro exclusively to toggle 4g. At least until the bug gets fixed.

Ok about a couple hours ago I noticed my wifi would turn itself on multiple times, and I turn it off and it keeps coming on, I think it does it when I put my phone to sleep, im not sure. I think it started happening since I installed the Blue Star 5 theme. Any ideas?
Stupid question... but you don't have Locale installed do you?
Figured I would ask. I have mine set up so that it would automatically fire up my wifi because although I get 3G outside I can't get it through my mighty wooden walls where I live. Go figure. Every so often I guess Locale looses my position and it puts me on and off the network. Pretty annoying. So I disabled that and installed some apps to keep my wifi on even while my phone sleeps. There's a few out there, Wifi Insomnia, Wi-Fi Lock, KeepWiFi are a few that I have experiment with. Although since I have all three installed now... I'm honestly not sure which one I'm using.

Hmmm. Well... maybe try seeing if it does it in safe mode if that doesn't work. If it does it in safe mode too then I dunno. If it doesn't then it's probably an app messing with it.
I heard it could be ShopSavvy that is causing that.
If you have an app like keepwifi that basically keeps your wifi signal on, that might be whats causing it. If not, you might want to try other apps that require things such as internet access or access to settings.
We need an list of apps you have installed. Power Manager will do this also.
I too am having this problem!
Sometime the wifi doesn't stay on and I only knew it was turning on thanks to wifi toggle's symbol at the top.
I am running JF's 1.43 RC9 with root etc etc.
The apps I have installed are:
ASTRO
Download crutch lite
DroidFtp
Droidsans tweak tools
fBook
GPS status
JF updater
Meebo
PapiJump
Picasa
Pkt auctions ebay
Ringdroid
Scrambled net
Shazam
Shopsavvy (my suspisions are on this one!)
Skype
Sms awake
Toggle wifi
Thanks
Phil
Okay, figured out what it is. Its the theme u downloaded. Couple hours ago my g1 started turning on the wifi whenever it felt like it.I figured it was something I downloaded recently but I downloaded apps to check them out& then uninstalled them.apps have no effect after u uninstall them.then u mentioned the theme u just downloaded. Well go figure,I just downloaded the same theme wit a few others today.then my wifi started acting up.concidence? I think not.
Lol let me know how u do.
Hmmm, im not sure if its the theme, someone mentioned the setting on ShopSavvy, after I took it off it hasnt been turning on. I still have the theme on btw, but I modified it, so it may have been ShopSavvy
wifi not turning on
My problem is different my wifi wont turn on? if i start my wifi it will show a message that wifi failed to turn on... Can anyone help me on this
Weird, i had shopsavvy from day one, never encountered such a problem. still have it, and deleted the theme. Now the wifi is back to normal. problem with the G1 is, everyone can have the same problems or issues but different solutions with each device lol. the beauty of the G1.
Btw, does anyone know if the "shake awake" app really kills the battery?

ShopSavvy is a definite cause of this problem. I've been in touch with the developers over it, and they have admitted that there's a problem with the WiFi coming on randomly
they've assured me that the next update will fix it. i hope so, because ShopSavvy was useful until it started doing this
here you go guys............i posted this in the Tethering thread as well. this will fix the issue. it is indeed Shop Savvy, but heres the fix, just copy and pasted from my other post:

2. once Shop savvy's screen shows up, SELECT settings
3. select PRIVACY

4. press the button, now it should say "OFF"
5. Exit out of Shop Savvy
Voila.........no more disconnects. I have been tethering for 2 hours non-stop. happy tethering.
my wifi keeps today also itself on
I never installed Shopsavvy. So that cant be the problem.
I didnt changed anything today on my phone

yes, this fixes the issue of ShopSavvy randomly switching on the WiFi and disconnecting ongoing sessions, but it completely renders the most useful thing about ShopSavvy useless.
I've been beta testing the latest version of ShopSavvy, and it doesn't seem to be doing this random WiFi anymore. It is also a version of ShopSavvy that is compatible with Cupcake 1.5.
I am using LauncherPro and my 4G radio seems to turn on by itself automatically a few times a day. Is anyone else having this issue?

Are you using a rooted phone? if so what rom and what else have you added to it. Plus, if this is the issue, uninstall and use HTC sense, if it sill does it. then maybe your hitting the button?
do you have the 4g switch on your homepage? i heard that can cause problems when launcherpro crashes and reloads your 4g will be on. something worth looking at.
If you're using the non HTC 4g widget that was floating around, one of the bugs it has is it always starts off as "ON" when you boot...
It happened to me that the GPS turned on automatically, and I didn't open maps or anything, draining my battery. So when it starts doing this funcky stuff, just reboot.
I was rooted but now I'm not so I am back to stock. I did install the custom widget that was posted on this forum but no longer have it installed as I am using the one from Switch Pro now. I uninstalled the other one.
I had the same problem after installing the new SwitchPro Widgets. I resolved it by turning off the 4g Network notification. Settings>Wireless&Networks>4g Settings>Network Notification.
But doesn't that just turn off the notification? I don't want the radio coming on when I don't need it.
Turning off the notification caused the 4g to not auto enable, for me. I can't say why, just that it worked. I never saw the auto enable issue prior to installing SwitchPro Widgets, which I think are great by the way, so I'm not bashing the product.
I will give that a shot.
Thanks.
You're not alone
Was having the same problem with SwitchPro for my rooted incredible (also not 4g but 3g). I think it had something to do with how this and maybe other apps poll/access the settings for mobile network. Uninstalled switchpro and all is better.
its too bad i love the interface of switchpro
I had the same issue. I turn off 4G notification and everything is good now.
I use Switchpro.
Thanks, I didn't know what was turning on my 4G by itself, but now I know SwitchPro is the culprit.

That doesn't work. I don't even have the notification turned on and it still does it. It's because of SwitchPro as it never turned on automatically until I installed it.

Happened to me too, but he's somewhat right.
I had 4G Network notification turned off when I installed SwitchPro, but my 4G was automatically turning on also, especially after reboots.
So here's what I did to fix it.
Turn on 4G
Turn on Network notification
Turn off Network notification
Turn off 4G
Still have SwitchPro installed and 4G toggle on my widget, but 4G hasn't turned on automatically since...

Well this turn on/off notification kinda work but only for a while...
If you do the trick, 4G won't tun on automatically anymore. But if you manually turn on 4G and then turn off and reboot your phone (actually you don't need to reboot, a flight mode is enough to show the effect), 4G will be turned on automatically again...
Again, non of the 3rd party switches figured out how exactly this 4G switch work.

This is also how i did it.
i turn on my 4g radio every now and then to see if i can get a signal, i was using my gps earlier today and didnt bother to turn it off, just a few min ago i turned on the 4g to look for a network and suddenly my gps is active but no location aware apps are running right now, has anyone run into this, i turned it on/off about 8 times and everytime the gps would go off, everything on this evo is stock
Hasn't happened to me, but if you have "use my location" checked under privacy, Google could be accessing that for whatever reason. Probably unlikely, but possible. Could've just been a random glitch also.

I have now flashed release 5 twice and both times my 4G has stopped working. It will not come on with the drop down toggle and it will not start by using settings. The only way I can get it to work is to use switch-pro widget (I discovered that switch pro would work on accident).
I just want to clarify if I try to turn on 4g with the drop down toggle or in setting my 4g will search like it will come on but than it just turns off. So I decided to try to use switch pro widget and my 4g turned on and worked fine. I have flashed rls5 two times and did a full wipe both times, I did use TI backup to restore I'm wondering if that is causing the issue. I did check 4g with the toggle after flashing the seccond time and it did work.
So immediately after flashing rls5 4g works but something is causing it to stop any one have any ideas? I'm thnking maybe TI backup.
Delete switchpro and then try turning on 4G. It could also help to "clear data" from the switchpro application under the managing applications section.
Thanks MDizzle9, I was having similar issues (albeit completely different ROM). When I took out the SwitchPro (and wiped its settings before I did) my 4g now scans and actually stays on. Working great now!
Mahalo,
~B
Yeah fixed it for me.
Make sure you do a full wipe before installing RLS5. I tried to just install over RLS4 and my 4G did not work. Backup, full wipe, install. Now going to give the removed data governor a try.

If anyone else is having this issue I have verified that by going into "Settings > Manage Applications > SwitchPro" and pressing "Clear Data" the issue is resolved.
Myn's RLS5 4G
My 4G will turn on and scan and even show bars but it doesn't work. It never fully loads. 3G works great. Wifi needs to be shut off and turned back on all the time to work correctly. Is anyone else having the same issues?
My 4G would not turn off unless I turned it off and rebooted two or three times.
Seeing as the original thread was so abruptly closed, I guess I'll just ask this here.
I've experienced this from time to time on other versions of GSB, and even on KaosFroyo occasionally, but it has become way more prevalent on v3.8. Every time I turn on WiFi using the power control in the notification bar, the WiFi never seems to connect, even though the "open networks" indicator pops up. This would obviously mean that the WiFi radio is scanning, but the only way that it finally picks up the dedicated networks that I use is to finally go to Settings > Wireless > Manage networks, then the network finally appears and connects. What's up with this?
Like I said, I'm running the latest GSB, and the latest radio ending in .29 I believe. Not that I think it has any bearing, but I'm also running ZeppelinRox's v6 Supercharger.
If I've posted this in the wrong place let me know. Thanks in advance.

Regardless of the thread being closed, were others seeing the same issue ?
One thought I had was related to the WiFi scan interval,
Code:
wifi.supplicant_scan_interval=xxx
i.e. how often it "looks" for a WiFi connection. It's set in the /system/build.prop file and I've seen numbers from 30 seconds, 45 seconds, and so on. What would happen is if you were NOT in range of a WiFi signal and turned it on, it wouldn't look again for that time period. But, in the case of turning on WiFi and being in range, it should connect quickly and not have to wait for that time period.
Having been a longtime user of GSB I don't recall ever seeing mention of this issue, but of course given the breadth of that thread it is entirely possible.
I'm not thinking it's an issue with the scan interval, as it does notify me of open networks nearby after toggling it on. But instead of automatically connecting to the networks I use at home and away, I still have to manually open WiFi settings for it to pick up and connect. Kinda ruins the whole "automatically" part lol.

Yeah, we've talked about it on the GSB thread. In fact I think I've started several posts about it. There have been GSB releases that were less bothered with this annoyance and some where this happened more frequently.
I too am running GSB v3.8 and I find this happens to me about 50% of the time I turn on WiFi using the notification bar. In those cases where it doesn't connect, I either manually open the WiFi settings screen and turn it off/on again and it'll connect immediately... Or if I leave it alone and come back to check it 10-20 mins later, I'll notice that it connected sometime all on its own.
So it does connect back up, it just takes its time doing so. Who knows? \_O_/
Thanks for the heads up on that bro, I guess I'll just grin and bear it for the time being, at least until I can finally get my hands on the elusive Droid Bionic lol.
Sent from my GSB Eris using the XDA Premium app.
I've had this problem on several versions of GSB, including 3.8 but I'm not sure why. For me a wipe and reflash has always fixed it.
I have found that most times when I have problems with GSB if I flash another ROM then flash GSB it works much better. First I manually clear the /data/dalvik-cache folder using Root Explorer then reboot to recovery. Then I flash xtrROM because it formats boot, system and data I believe, then I enable USB and delete the android.secure folder. I do all this without ever rebooting then flash GSB.
I'm still running 3.8 and I have no problems with it. And I am running all 3 of Zeppelinrox's tweaks.
Edit: A day after I posted the above I see that my wifi is doing this again. It worked and now it doesn't. I made no changes; it just quit working and now says "scanning" until I open wifi settings and then it connects with no problem.
