G1 F-ed Up

Sorry about all the posts I'm making but this is probably going to be the last one I make for a while because this is where I'll list all the problems I couldn't find with Search... so everyone chillax, I searched before I posted! =)
1) My Apps won't install... they download fine and all, but after a little bit it says 'Installation Unsuccessful'... someone gave me a code to use but it gave me a message of something like 'No Existing Item' it wasn't item but it was something like that.
2) I'm running Cyanogen 4.0.4 with the xROM theme... there is no settings icon and when I hit Menu and Settings on the Home Screen it Force Closes. I don't know what triggered this but its making me mad.
3) JACxROM keeps Force Closing on me. He had something posted on hid thread for the ROM about this but I just don't understand it.

Reboot and enter recovery
Enter console
#parted /dev/block/mmcblk0
rm 1
rm 2
rm 3
#print (this is to find out the size of your card)
mkpartfs primary fat32 0 #### (replace #### with the info from print above)
This will remove the ext and swap partitions thus removing A2SD and swap as possible causes to your problem.
Now put your sd card in a card reader and format with a PC. Download CM 4.0.4 and put it on the card.
Now Reboot and enter recovery
flash the zip file for cm 4.0.4
reboot and test

The reason the code gridlock gave you didn't work is because it was for wiping your ext2/3, and you didn't partition it correctly, hence the no item existed error. you are doing SOMETHING wrong when partitioning which is why you are getting install problems. You need to double, and triple check EVERY letter/number you type when partitioning.

While I agree with crpercodani, I think the best course of action is to repartition and format your sd for fat32 only, get the phone working normal, verify that there isn't another problem, THEN we can go over partitioning for A2SD and or swap.

I agree with what the kind sir above me has said. If we know it is working a-ok WITHOUT a2sd then we will have a much much better idea what the problem is.

Oh forgot to mention...

Hope your "developer" friends help you if you even get a response from your other thread. I'll spend my time helping someone who listens and provides feedback. Then again maybe us "other" guys in the help forums aren't smart enough to give you advise.

This is your third thread in a week, with the same things in each one. We have all covered possible ways to help you with your problem but yet you have failed to take the advice that has been mention to you like a faulty sdcard, wiping, reflashing and removing your sd, than booting to verify if it is an sd issuse or have not tried another process to try reformating like gparted or ubuntu or even paragon

I don't get it damn it!

Faulty sd card - get new one
Wipe, reflash, boot without sd card - pull your freakin sdcard out
after reflash and boot it up
Try different method of partioning - there are several different ways to do this
Check supreme' sig for doing it in ubuntu
Or read the sticky's
Stop posting new threads - continue in one thread not 10
Or do what a lot of us have done and read damn it
Try the damn search <it's google!!!!!!>

Why would you have to pull your battery for partitioning your sd card?

That should be clear enough. If GridLocks instructions here aren't clear enough than I would stop trying to do anything to your phone.

You could always try throwing it against the wall or running it over, than can solve all your problems easily.
How bout this, you can ups the damn thing to me or someone else here, they fix it, send it back to you and you never mess with it again.
Or revert it back to stock
Or sell it and buy a basic phone that requires no work to make it great

How can you do it "kinda good"?... That sounds like you feel you may have done something wrong, so why not just do it again. If you have Cyanogen's latest recovery partitioning is very easy to do in parted.

LOL, how bout this one.

Can't move apps to sd card

Card is mounted and everything, but still everything wants to be moved to 'media area'. How can I change this?

Are you sure they are suppose to go to the ext?
On my apps2sd pro it prompts me to move to "media area".
My TiBU screen here show internal, sd, ext sd..? Can someone explain this for us?

kk. I have been messing around with this and no dice...its starting to annoy me.
i want everything i can moved onto the ext card to cut down on fragmentation and so i can use a SD speed booster.

Afaik the sd speed booter increases the cache size, thats what mine does. Increasing cache size will load thumbnails of pics and vids faster, but not necessarily boost the performance of a game or something..
As far as fragmentation, ive never thought of that, im sure there is a defrag app. Ill look tomorrow im sleepy.

Yes but we are confused if "media area" is stored on "internal sd" or "external sd". I believe the apps in media area are on internal sd. The op is asking can they be stored on the external sd.?

Media area is the internal phone storage not ext sd card.

Okay first post and sure this is off to a great start, because its probably like the lamest question ever....
I see the SD card partition on the Nexus S and for the LIFE of me can't actually figure out what its for.
If USB storage is for holding media and info then what is the SD for?
At one point i was getting memory errors from apps and it said SD memory at capacity or something like that and the limit seemed VERY small. I ran a cache cleaner and removed some clashing apps (i believe) and it seemed fine after that.
Is the SD the internal RAM?
feel free to call me any derogatory name you like as long as you give me a wiki or explanation. I tried searching the forum and google but it just brings up posts where people already talk about SD with knowledge.

The SD card is a non removable flash storage device. It's the storage you see when you mount USB storage.
Apps will cache data to the SD card, this is where any downloads go, any picture s or movies you take, etc. It is 16 GB of general storage (separate from the 1GB of internal storage).

Think of it as 'built-in'. For all practical purposes, there is a sdcard, which behaves just as it would on any other android, but you can't remove it. I'm not sure if it is physically part of the internal memory or not. I suspect there is one 16GB chip that is partitioned for internal and /sdcard.

i am a bit stumped then. when it gave me the sd capacity it was NO WHERE near 16g's. it was like 800mbs or something. this is why my slacker kept crashing out and giving me a memory error.
is there a way in the OS to see the SD capacity? I had an app that told me but got rid of it cause i think it was also part of the crashing issues i had.
so is what your saying the SD is what you see when you USB your phone to the computer? its that root DIR. In clockwork i can see a USB and SD dir separately i believe but ill have to check again

Slacker works fine for me, always has (outside of it's poor ability to precache the next song).
For Storage go to Settings -> Storage. USB storage is the SD card.

What space you see when you plug in the NS to your computer's USB is the SD card.
It is not the root folder of the whole phone.
Under the "Settings -> Storage" window on your phone, the "USB Storage" is we are calling the SD card.
The Internal Storage is what the phone needs itself.

Because of all the music on my NS & the fact almost all my apps are there too, I am sucking up approx 3 gigs of SD or USb storage space.
The NS is sucking up approx 800megs of space, of the 1 gig available to it.
As for your Slacker issues, Although I am not familiar with this application, have you tried just reinstalling it.

just couldnt figure whyd they name something twice.
As for slacker i beleive it was a mix of
juice defender (which i may try again solo to see if its really that good)
ad blocker (which was jsut something i tried but never really needed, good riddance)
and like these two cleaners which i dont remember the names of.
Now i have NG cache cleaner which is nice and my slcaker seems to be normal again
wasnt sure if the adblocker was seeing the commercials in slacker as ads and trying to block them out causing problems so i got rid of that first.
as the other guy said the pre chaching was HORRIBLE at times making me think the app locked. but after those removals it worked fine with occassional lag betweensongs

[Q] [i9505] S4 Corrupting Music Library!

Hey everybody,
So, I recently bought a Samsung 64gb SD card for my i9505 to put music on, but I'm running into some troubles with it.
Basically, all the music copies over fine, but it corrupts once I try to play it.
I have tried copying it from my iTunes library via iSyncr, via Easy Tunes Sync, as well as just drag and drop. I have converted them when the phone asks me to (I have tried both, converted and non-converted).
I have tried both in the regular Samsung Music player, as well as PlayerPro (the player I use normally). To give you an idea, here is what the files look like before I try to play the music:

And here's what it looks like AFTER I play:
Another weird thing, is SOME songs work (only artists who start with D through to I - it's not random, JUST that chunk of music plays). If I try to play in Music app, it just skips the track. If I try in PlayerPro, I get 'Sorry, this audio file could not be played in the player'. Weird thing is, they're all mp3s, no DRM.
I've done some searching around and some people have suggested clearing data in the Media Storage app, but I've tried that and it doesn't work for me.
Has anyone got any ideas that might help?
PS. I'm rooted and running Goldeneye 16.2.
Before anyone suggests that it might be the ROM, I doubt it. I came from CyanogenMod 4.3 and the issue was happening there as well (I thought maybe switching back to a Sammy ROM might help)
The only other option I really have left is to get rid of root and go back to pure stock I don't really want to do that but I can't keep streaming all my music, it's wrecking my data usage =\

It's FAT32 - when formatting the drive I've been using the 'default' option for formatting in CWM Recovery.
I also have the option to use exFat or NTFS.

OK. Does the custom kernel you're running support NTFS ? (stock doesn't). If it does, try formatting the card NTFS, put your music on & see what happens. If you're not running one that does support it, try one that does. And yeah, you could try exFAT as well I guess.
In saying all that, you're right though. All DRM free mp3's doing that is not normal. Next step after that is trying another card.

I'm running Talexop kernel which is built off stock, and it doesn't say anything about NTFS so I'm guessing its a no go.
Do you have any recommendations for a solid NTFS kernel?

Don't use it personally, first page of kernel threads/XDA search is your best bet.

Tried ExFat, no luck. Though on ExFat it does something different. MORE of the songs play, but some artists are missing completely. There is no consistency with the problems I'm experiencing.
EDIT: Tried a SanDisk card instead of the Samsung one - worked fine. Guess Samsung hardware doesn't play nice with Samsung hardware?

Really ?? Yeah, that's a real case of WTF !? (two bits of manufacturer's kit not playing nice with each other). At least you got it sorted eventually

Slow read & write speed with Samsung and SanDisk 128gb Micro SD?

I ordered both of these cards from Amazon:

And they both read and write really slow in my Galaxy Note 3. Does this happen to anyone else?
For example, when I open the Gallery app, it takes forever to load all the thumbnails.
One time, I tried to delete 5 pictures and it took MINUTES for the phone to delete them.
Any idea what's going on?

Could be due to the fact that Note 3 does not officially support memory cards over 64GB.

People seem to be using 128GB ones fine. I'd try the memory stick in another device and/or a computer.

Meant memory card*, woops. And with computer, I meant through an adapter.

Have you been installing a bunch of apps lately? I got that generic 128gb, black colored card one off eBay, used it all of last year with no issues. This week I have installed a bunch apps. To clean up the phone I added SDMaid, nice effective app but can be dangerous too. I carelessly used one of the cleaning options and it automatically deleted a whole bunch of things -system files, photos, etc. Luckily I always have Dumpster and restored everything. Now some pics are blank and a myriad of a few issues. I could use file manager to move files from internal sd to external, it creates a folder but no files are moved while the source is empty. It can't even copy nor see the files+folders on the SD card. I installed ES file manager, it's working great.
I intend to factory reset after everything is backed up. Then I will have to go back on an apps diet - only necessary apps. So i think my card is ok but one of the new apps is the culprit - pro'ly 1Mobile, IDK for sure.

Well maybe you have corrupted files on your sd card and the android trying to fix, index it and it causes the lags .
Try to move back apps to your internal storage, set camera to your internal as well format your memory card using a pc.

So, I can't fit all my external storage on my internal?
My external storage is like 85gb and my internal is only 32gb? I have everything backed up on my Alienware M14x R2 laptop.
What I've done is format my micro SD inside my phone and copy everything back onto my micro SD? I've done this with BOTH the Samsung brand and Sandisk brand cards but both are really slow to read when I'm running my Gallery app. All of my pictures and videos are stored on my micro SD. I have 5+yrs of stuff.

I don't know but try to remove your Facebook app !! And update me with the results

Thanks for SD Booster, but I have a Verizon phone no root

OP didn't say which Android version he/she is running, but since I never updated from 4.4.2, my suggestions are based on that, but should be similar on newer versions. First of all Note 3 fully supports 128GB and probably higher capacity but no way to check it yet, so that's not a problem. As for solutions: when was the last time caches were cleared? I do this on regular basis, once every 1-2 weeks, otherwise my phone slows down, the easiest would be using something like Android assistant and it should work without root. Another thing I do is manually kill programs I don't use often: once the program is run once it will load into RAM forever, even after reboot and then memory is being swapped all the time. Also you could download A1 SD bench, that can check your sd card memory speed. Just to give you an idea I get 20MB/s read, 15 MB/s write from the TEAM chinese 128GB sd card, you should get little bit more. Indexing used to be an issue, but if you didn't add large amount of new files recently, it should be ok. I got thousands of pictures and videos on my card, around 60 GB total and all is good. Your cards are high quality and should be running good, unless you running Android 5 and didn't use SD card fix, but there are threads showing how.

I never installed Android 5, therefore I have no first hand experience, so can't help much, but I did read Google keeps on messing with write permissions to SD, (probably trying to force people to use their cloud storage) and people reported all kinds of problems, it could be related to your issue. Did you try downloading "A1 sd bench" from Google, should be free and run speed test just for heck of it, both cards should have minimum 10MB write speed and at least 15MB read speed, maybe the cards are fake/broken? Eliminate the obvious, concentrate on what's left, but there is something wrong.

How can u really expect a phone with 64gb support to run 128 GB card that too smoothly.?
I have got 256 GB SD card and it just helps me to store my data safely I don't really find full smooth running SD card that too 64GB+ card anywhere ........
