[Q] Focus - Does Zune lossless music sync to phone? - Focus General

Just finished updating my Zune music collection to wma lossless for better quality sound on home system. Will the lossless wma files sync to the Focus at full bit rate or does it get compressed before it goes onto the phone? My collection is about 23gb lossless so I could fit it with room using a 32gb micro card plus the 8gb internal storage. (assuming the card issues get sorted out) If it's auto compressed, I'll probably go with a 16gb card instead.

There is an option in zune to turn off compression.
Settings->Phone->Conversion Settings
Select "Only convert media files that aren't supported by the device"

I haven't tried yet, but there's no reason it shouldn't play WMA Lossless. My Zune HD and Zune 80 before that both played WMA Lossless just fine - although tracks won't play with zero gap in between them all the time.

Thanks! I'll see if it works and post the results. I'm getting the phone as soon as the expansion card arrives.

Looks like songs are limited to 320 Kbps when transferring to the phone. I checked "Only convert media files that aren't supported by the device" under conversion settings then sync'd the phone. My approx. 22gb of music is taking up about 10gb on the phone so it must be automatically compressing to 320 kbps.

I had the same experience. My Zune HD will take WMA lossless and not convert the files but the phone converts it to a max of 320kbps.

Hmm... it should handle lossless as the list of codecs/rates are at
http://wmpoweruser.com/updates-code...ows-phone-7-released-xvid-and-divx-supported/
Of course should handle and will handle/transfer are two different items it seems

Windows Media Help

Hi...
why is it that when i play a movie on WIndows Media, it lags? like it skips.
the file im playing is a .wmv file. This movie is stored on a 1GB SD card. is it because i have too much stuff on my card? i have used about %50 of the card. please help.
is there another player that doesnt lag. or is the problem with me having too much stuff on the card?
pocketMVP have an cache option you can turn on but i dont think it support wmv but most people get divX and mpg anyway
also make sure the video size is not much bigger then what the screen can display otherwise it just require tons of extra transfer which is not being displayed
still need help
Hm, i'm using Gsplayer or WinamPAQ for audio files. In my opnion they are the best.
I had the same problems with hi-res ish large downloaded .wma files aswell.
The reason is stated above.
If you rip the wma. file to something your ppc can handle you wont have a prob.

Best free WMA converter...

Hi all,
how can I donload a free sw to convert audio (such as mp3, ogg ecc...) into WMA?
Get iTunes from Apple.com. Converts to any format you like and it's free. It's also an awesome replacement to Windows Media Player.
the best converter
the best is DBPowerAMP (www.dbpoweramp.com)
you can almost convert any sound file to almost other sound file of diferent class.
WAV to MP3, MP3 to WMA, WMA to AIFF, etc etc
You just download the main system and download the codecs for what you need to encode/decode.

You could use the newest Windows Media Player. Just connect your phone to your computer, and go into the WMP library and select the files you want WMA'd and Sync them. It will then convert and copy them to your phone automatically. Quite handy.
Of course.. Nothing can beat Microsoft.. WMP 10.. Amazing.. COnverts anything and improved features like selecting the quality in kbps and also converts video.. Simply amazing..
Only one issue, after synchronizing to yr mobile, wen u delete an item in mobile, it gets added again wen u connect again.. Maybe thers some option to make it delete in PC which i din find yet or WMP 11 will have it..
I tried power video converter for videos but WMP gave me the best clearity in the lowest size...!

Audio playback of WMA files from Mini-SD card is poor?

I've been troubleshooting a problem with audio playback on my Apache.
When I listen to my WMA files from Yahoo music, they are distorted withe a lot of pops, crackles, and skips.
It only happens when I play from my San Disk mini-SD and only on protected WMA files. Mp3's play fine and if I put the WMA files on the PPC, they play fine. Both the MP3 and WMA files use the same 192kbps encoding. I tried two different cards with the same results: a 1 GB and 512K. I even exchanged the device but there was no difference.
Why would Mp3's play fine and not WMA's? Any idea?
i've been playing wma files (from Napster) on my 1gb mini sd card with no problems at all

Wav files on sd card (HTC HD2)

Hi All
I have put some wav files (full cd quality) on sd card but they will not show on music shortcut, I have to use file explorer and select the track which then plays in media player. I was trying to avoid the reduction in quality (compression) of tracks when syncing from pc by pasting the cd tracks direct to the card. Is there any way to display and therefore play with full functionality, "full fat" files on sd card from the music icon?

To be frank, can you really tell the difference between 177kbp/s CD tracks and 320kbp/s MP3s, especially through headphones?
Not sure - feels like I'm missing something. Using Windows 7 and Win media player when syncing to the phone tries to turn everything down (smaller file size - lower quality). I'm not bothered about having an entire library on the card, 2 or 3 cd's is fine, I swap em around whenever I need to. What do you suggest for max quality that I can sync that will show up in library / music tab? I'm also not bothered about album art.

You can set WMP up to rip to 320kbp/s MP3 under:
Organise -> Options -> Rip Music
That should sync them to be the same bitrate.
If you are adamant you want to use .WAV files, WMP mobile plays them fine, not sure why the Music tab doesn't use them.

Best Quality With Smallest Size Audio Format

I have about 17GB of music I would like to get on my NS (around 2600 songs, mp3 format, range from 160-320kps ). Now, their's only 13GB available to use on the NS, so I'd like to know if I can change the format to something else to keep a similar or same quality, so I can fit them all on my NS
I do realize that some formats will decrease quality (because I'm converting from mp3) but, i'd like to keep the min. bit rate to sound like 160 on mp3. If anyone has any suggestions/instructions on how I can do this succesfully that would be great
There is another thread in general about audio files check it out, has some really good info. To provide some info here u can change the file format from mp3 to ogg vorbis to decrease the file size but u will lose sound quality, not that much tho. I took mp3 files and converted them to ogg vorbis then compared the sound quality and I personally noticed a difference. What I have found out is if you have the original CD is to rip the file to FLAC, which is lossless then convert it to ogg. Another option to consider is to use a streaming program like AudioGalaxy or Subsonic, both are available for android. These allow you to keep your music on your computer but stream it to your phone anywhere in the world. I'm currently looking into this myself. Hope some of this helped.
