I was curious if there is an easier way to remove a theme other than doing a nandroid restore. I have been trying out several of the themes and each time I want to remove it I have to restore and it takes forever. I want to try more, but dread the thought of another nandroid restore. Any simpler methods?

Anybody? I found another one I really want to try .......
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
i just apply the new theme on top lol
There are stock themes in a few threads on here man, just search before you ask a question like this.
Thank you and sorry I read these forums all the time and I don't remember seeing a stock theme but I will search tonight.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Well I did a search and I don't see any stock theme, the only thing I saw was one person said they just used Odin. If I did it that way, would I just use the system file then?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
System file should do the trick. I thought that flashing the system file would do a wipe but it doesn't. It will just put all your vzw **** on there

What would be the benefits of rooting right now? I just have the urge to mess with my phone for some reason.
Having root access to the phone...getting rid of bloatware...having root access apps...flashing one of the lighter ROMs we already have...being ready to flash a froyo ROM as soon as it hits...toying with the phone...lots!
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Interesting, I guess I'll root today. What themes and roms are currently available? And anyone know when the "real" lag fix is coming?
Theres a couple different themes in the themes forum...nothing that appeals to me. Theres also a very nicely cleaned up rom in the dev forum. Install clockwork and check that out

In your opinion what is the best rooting guide to follow? There are a couple out there.

Yeah I went to one click root. Followed the link to Android Central and followed the manual directions listed there.

I'm guessing we just flash this the same way I used to flash stuff on my droid? No need to rename to update.zip since I'm using clockwork, correct?
I dont understand why people want voodoo...what does it change?

it changes the /system to ext4 format from FAT(i believe it is) which is much much faster on system read and writesso makes phone run way smooth

If i flash voodoo would i be able to switch back if the need arose?

Rooted, Clockwork, Titanium Pro worth every penny (froze all things crap), voodooed.
Battery life and spiffyness is sweet. At 75% battery when at this point in the day I would be at 35 to 45%. Do it. Just make sure you read and read more. Coming from years of winmo this android stuff was definitely a huge learning experience.
good day.
there are a lot of apps for rooted phones, and you are able to flash clockworkmod so you can use it to install roms and make backups, and more....

You can find a theme that has the same folders as yours and use there update script. That's what I do

Might even consider using MetaMorph if its just a theme, he has a tutorial and template laying around the intertubez somewherez.

I bought photosafe and video safe licenses and always would just redownload and access my files no problem, but on stock dk28 the licenses don't appear in the market and I'm stuck with the trial versions which won't let me hide any photos/vids
But on DI18 and I think bonsai rom, they were in the market place. Also on my friends optimus on metro pcs
So my question is, if I ODIN back to di18 and download em, how would I bring them up to froyo with me?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
There is a thread in the development section that teaches how to fix this. I believe shabbypenguin is the author.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
I just went and scrolled down and down and down and couldn't find it. I wish the search function worked :/ I remember something along the lines of the market not recognizing our phones on froyo, so we need a n1 signed market.apk to get protected apps on froyo or something like that
If I restore data from di18, what will happen? I never just restore data
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I wouldn't recommend restoring data from di18 to a froyo rom. There's a couple lines in your build.prop that need to be edited in order for protected apps to show in the market on stock dk28. I'm not at my pc right now so I can't help find the thread.

Ok I've managed to get my device rooted and overclocked, I have Bootstrapper and Clockwork Mod. My question is am I deodexed and am I ready for themes now
No, you have three options:
1) Manually deodex your phone
2) Install a Rom that's already been deodexed
3) Download and flash your stock files for deodexed ones
Ok how do I know which themes have been deodexed already and how do I know what apex I have

If you browse the droid x themes and apps section of xda, the theme creator will tell you what has been deodexed or not. I know the 928 blackglass theme is deodexed already but I do not know of many themes that come deodexed. Of you wish to deodex your phone, search google for "xUltimate 2.2 Manually deodex your phone".
As for apex...this is a custom ROM, so this will not be running on yout phone yet, you would have to install it of this is the ROM you wish to run.

I have a feeling that after I deodex I'm still not done ...lol I actually tried loading the DXred theme the other day and it worked ..then I noticed that the dialer button didn't work then it killed my service ...ya think that happened because I was not properly deodexed?

Ah, ok. Xultimate is an application that runs on your computer, not your phone.
If you have your phone rooted, and know how to use the Droid X bootstrap to install .zip files, then download this file:

Run this with Droid X bootstrap and you will be deodexed, and not need xultimate.
Ok after a lot of research I finally understand the whole thing.....most if the themes I see on line you need a custom ROM to run them which of course I'm running stock therefore I have to choose from the stock ones which is cool. I found a pretty cool one called Executive Red and it's working perfect. Thank you very much for all of your help

No problem. Glad to hear you got where you want to be. I would recommend just doing some research, and when you feel like you're comfortable, try out one of the custom ROMs. I regret not jumping into one a little sooner. They really have a great advantage many times.
Look into themes from Bignadad. He does themes for liberty, rubix, and did one for the original 2.3.15 OTA. Check him out on twitter as well, and you can keep up on what he is working on. I would recommend Bignadad by far, he is in my opinion the most thorough with his themes, and they always look amazing.

You have to pay for the hotspot app to work unless you perform another modification such as the one that team black hat released to use it for free.

Yes, it will say its there, but you cannot use it without paying (kinda). There is another mod, where you start the program, then put the plane in airplane mode, then disable airplane mode and it works as if you had subscribed to the service...
or there is the tbh hack.. which they say is unethical, and they don't condone, so please read the whole page before using this... just a disclaimer.

You basically download a .zip and flash it in clockworkmod recovery.
Hey,
So I just rooted my DX. I have milestone overclocker and titanium backup as well as ROM manager and wireless tether. Now what do I do ? I'm sorry for being a complete noob but I'm eager to learn. I have heard a little about flashing custom ROMs and was just wondering if there was one that is like Gingerbread (2.3) out for the DX. I just got this phone a month ago and I ready to jump on the Rooting Wagon

I would recommend looking around the Droid X android development forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=691
Here is where you will find a lot of the discussion and posts from Developers about their ROM's. I think Fission (latest is 2.5.7) has a gingerbread theme set up. I believe there are others as well.
When it comes to ROM's its really a personal decision. In my opinion, all the bigs ones (Rubix, Fission, Liberty, Cobalt, GummyJar, Tranquility, Apex) are all AMAZING roms. It's really just what you like the feel of... I personally use Liberty 1.0 right now. Its a combination of Kejar31 and Jrummy's work. There is a "new" dev team, phoenixdevs, that will be picking up the GEM series that cvpcs (one of the most amazing android developers ever) had been doing.
To start, just make sure you have a nandroid backup from Koush's recovery, and then try out the different ROM's you are interested in and see what you like best.
If I can make a recommendation about themes...check out Bignadad's themes... He does work for Rubix, Liberty, and GummyJar. Here is his latest work:

No problem. You can grab it from the attachment below =)
then just move it to your phones sdcard. Use a file manager like Astro File Manager (free on the market) to browse on your sdcard. Press on the .apk file and then press the install option.
Then in your application menu, find the app, then click the first option (this hijacks the boot process the same way that ROM manager does). ROM manager has a built in version of this app and does the same thing. I just prefer to do it through Koush's app personally.
After you click the top button a pop up should come up with the word success (press this). Then click reboot recovery. From there, use the volume up/down buttons to move the green cursor that highlights the options, and use the camera button to select. Go down to Backup and Restore (press camera button to select), then press camera button when Backup is highlighted. (I am merely suggesting how I do it, as I don't rely on ROM manager for much personally. that and I dont remember how ROM manager manages backups... LoL).
It will do its thing, then bring you back to the main menu when it is finished. Click the camera button on "reboot system now" and you now have a working backup. They are stored on your sdcard in the following hierarchy: /sdcard/clockworkmod/backups
Then you just use that same menu if you ever want to restore using the restore option instead of backup =D
I also use Koush's app to install my custom ROM"s and themes as well. You just go down to the option that is something like "install .zip from sdcard" and then you can browse your sdcard for any ROM/theme/mod you have downloaded and saved there...
Hope this helps! Ask if you have more questions, I'm glad to help =)
Wow you made this sound so simple that I just did a nandroid backup on my phone for the first time! I have had my X now for about 4 months its been rooted since day one but I've never had the courage to go forward with roms. So is it really that simple , just dl the rom and flash it with Koushs bootstrap? If I flash a rom but want to update via ota to gingerbread I would just flash my nandroid using the flash rom from. Zip option? Im excited to start with roms I never ralized it was this easy to get back to stock!

Also do you have to use titanium backup to backup apps to use in new rom, or can you use what is in the nandroid to reinstall apps on rom?

Yes it really can be that simple. just keep track of any backups you make, and always restore back to a clean nanroid for when OTA's come out, and you should be good. Just make sure if an OTA comes out and the bootloader version gets updated, don't go back to a nandroid with a different bootloader...you will brick your phone.
Example: on old ota (2.3.15) and update to 2.3.34. Then try to go back to 2.3.15=brick =(
Thanks this is great and so helpful

Depends on what you mean by 3g hotspot. There is "wireless tether for root" in the market for free. This allows you to tether using your 3g signal. The default Verizon app (don't think it is in Liberty...) requires a paid service... People have found hacks to get by this, but I don't recommend it, since it is cheating the service provider (Verizon) out of money if you hack their app.
I see no problem with wireless tether for root tho! Totally a dev's own work to get free tethering.
Thanks
