I'm going travel in Asia (taiwan), they have 2.5ghz wimax service there but I wonder if I could activate the phone to use wimax?
I know regular voice/cdma evdo could be activated on the carrier there but I don't know about the wimax radio?
Anyone has experience on using Evo overseas?

I have am htc surround unlocked from at&t and using it currently with t-mobile everything works fine however the 3g is not working is there any configuration for the apn our something that I need to do to make it work please somebody help me.....
No. The hardware is different.
T mobile and at&t use different frequency for 3g data.
Unfortunately surround only support at&t frequency so u can't use 3g on t mobile network.
if i not mistaken the htc surround supports lte 4g.... so you might be able to
im not sure you might have to wait for a update

Not true. The Surround does NOT support 4G LTE.
In reply to the OP, the Surround isn't getting 3G on T-Mobile because it only supports AT&T's 3G bands. Carriers do that so you cannot use the phone elsewhere if you try to weasel out of your contract. If you bought it off-contract, you should have stuck with AT&T because there is no configuration or any setting that exists that will get the Surround to use T-Mobile's 3G.
If you need 3G, you should probably consider returning the phone if you still have the chance and go get the HD7 instead.
Hardware
The Data bands used for AT&T are different yes, but this phone is a data quad band phone, so the antenna should be able to pick up the signal for T-Mobile or AT&T. It should be no more than a configuration issue. Both the HD 7 for T-Mobile and the Surround for AT&T have the same radio for data reception (/us/products/compare/120-121?view=1-1&sort=0&filters=0-11-0). Add www and htc and dotcom to the link.
Nope.
ATT offers UMTS or 3G using 850mhz(the old TDMA band) and 1900mhz.
While T-mobile offers HSDPA (technically 3.5g part of the UMTS specification) using 1700MHz for uplink and 2100MHz downlink.
The Surround would have to be 850/1700/1900/2100 3G and 850/1900 GSM (voice) to work on T-Mo's 3G.

Can someone explain what would happen if they do decide to go with LTE? Would that mean that places without 4g currently at the time of contract will have to wait now for LTE 4g network to be set up. Currently, I am in Michigan with no 4g and it sucks because I have had my Evo since last year waiting for 4g. Now all of a sudden Verizon and Tmobile have 4g in my city. WTF!!!

If it were to happen, which I still doubt (sprint has too much invested in wimax), it would take at least a few years. And during that time there would be a switchover from wimax phones to lte, so people probably wouldnt be affected too much.

Well, Verizon doesn't have to deal with Clearwire, which is Sprint's WiMax provider. They are the reason that WiMax hasn't spread as much as it should. And TMobile's "4G" isn't even 4G, its just a beefed up 3G network. I know that Sprint's 4G towers can be "converted" into LTE towers by just a simple firmware update, but I am pretty sure the hardware in the phones that support WiMax can't be changed. I may be wrong though. I believe that's why Sprint is now releasing smartphones without 4G support, because of the uncertainty of their deal with Clearwire. Again, this is all just what I think, but honestly, I'd rather have TMobile's "4G" than have to deal with LTE. I really REALLY do not want to own an LTE device. I really hope that Clearwire can fix itself and start deploying more towers, because then we won't have to deal with LTE. But we'll see what happens.
From what I have read, once Sprint's infrastructure clean up happens they will have 800 mHz spectrum leftover from the iDen network. This could go to LTE.

Didn't the DoD buy the iDen network a while back? I thought they were supposed take over it after Sprint phased it out.

That's a no go at 800mhz for Sprint. The reason is because they only have 14mhz of spectrum there. LTE needs 20mhz of spectrum (I think there's something with TD-LTE that can get by on 15mhz, but they're still short there).
From what I've read, 800 mhz will go CDMA with PTT. If they wanted, they could use 10mhz of it for LTE, but would need to go to 1900mhz for any additional spectrum they would need. Because of this, it would make more sense to move their current CDMA service to 800mhz and install LTE at 1900mhz.
I need to knew wat means this Sentence
T-Mobile, America's First Nationwide 4G Network Sent by Samsung Mobile
It about HTC HD2 iam in Egypt it means i cant use this device ???
My Best site www.IslamHouse.com
what it means is that tmobile have a nationwide "4G" network setup in the USA, which is bollocks, its not 4G, or at least by the criteria of it. its more like a 3.5G or a Pre-4G it uses HSPA+ which is based on the 3G network but is quite a bit faster
LTE advance and WiMax2 are the only two ideas defined as true 4G, and neither of those is on the market yet.
anyhow, it means bugger all for your HD2 as that only supports HSPA, depending which version of the HD2 you have (which network its setup for) assuming you have had your HD2 working there it will still work there with the "4G" but you wont be able to get the HSPA+ speeds.

AT&T have 4G LTE and 3G HSPA+ 21.1Mbps. So depending on which phone you have will depend on what type of speeds you get.
T-Mobile only have 3G HSPA+ 42Mbps so unless you have a non 4G LTE phone you'll get roughly the same speeds.
It's also location dependant of course. Here is an article summing up the differences in tech with a speed comparison chart at the bottom.
http://www.androidauthority.com/hspa-vs-lte-which-one-is-better-78120/
But like i said it depends where you're based as well.
To sum up- 4G LTE on AT&T is faster if you have a LTE compatible phone. However T-Mobiles 3G network should theoretically be slightly faster than AT&T's 3G network if you have a 3G HSPA+ capable handset. I see you have a sensation capable of up to 14.4Mbps. You should not notice that much of a difference between either network with that phone.
Is all this the same for per-paid at&t and tmobile data speeds?

No idea mate. I'm based in the UK so i'm not sure about the speed differences between different data plans. If it's anything like the UK it should be the same but i'd wait until someone who knows the answer posts here before you take my word.
And verizon 4Glte is faster than both at&t and tmobile correct?

It'll be faster than T-Mobile for sure.
But AT&T use 4G LTE as well so you should see similar speeds on both AT&T 4G and Verizon 4G. However Verizon cover more places for 4G than AT&T at the moment. But again it does depend on your location and whether your city is covered by 4G LTE.
If you're looking at just 3G speeds then AT&T & T-Mobile will be faster than verizon by far.
1) Is US Cellular using LTE Band 12 up here in Maine?
2) Is Nexus 6P "certified" for Band 12 on T-Mobile?
3) What is (or where do I find out) the T-Mobile/US Cellular roaming agreement here in Maine?
When my Nexus 6P signs onto US Cellular, I am lucky to get "edge" coverage (but it does not seem to actually know how to use it). I understand that USC has LTE band 12 and am wondering why I cannot access it. There are no TMO towers in my area. I get great LTE coverage using Canadian (Bell/Telus) towers, but nothing useful for a huge area here in Maine as I travel south towards Augusta. Is the Nexus 6P a bad choice for TMO? Should I be using something else or is nothing going to actually utilize USC's LTE network? Hoping to resolve this because I need the Canada coverage TMO provides, but I also need coverage here in Maine. Is the USC LTE deployment actually band 12 here?
Thanks!

US Cellular is a CDMA provider. They are not GSM so there is no edge to be used. The only part of their network you'd be able to possibly use is LTE, But I highly doubt you could roam on them due to if LTE did work, they're would be no way for SMS/Phone calls to work as you'd only be able to get a data only connection.

US Cellular has shifted to GSM as well as the LTE. My iPad Pro does roam on their Edge network with no issues. The Nexus 6P does not like their network, but it can and does use CDMA where it is.

US Cellular is still CDMA as stated on there website along with every phone they sell is CDMA/LTE. Yeah the 6P can use CDMA but there is no GSM carrier that has agreements with CDMA roaming except for Project Fi which uses Sprint, T-Mobile, and recently now U.S.Cellular for the nexus devices.
I was doing some digging and U.S.Cellular does have a few GSM towers up were your at but its for roaming purposes ONLY (it's technically not really uscellular though) it's just them to make a few dollars from Gsm carriers like T-Mobile haha. so that would explain why you can get edge not sure why your 6P won't roam on it correctly though. I highly doubt there is LTE available in those areas (GSM Wise) as GSM is not what u.s.cellulars main focus is as themselves they only provide that network for roaming I'm pretty sure it would at least be 3G though.

Is that the "King Street Wireless" part of things? I had seen that mentioned on their web page.
