[Q] 2.3 gingerbread for the G2 - G2 and Desire Z General

I know we just got the OTA but with the Open Handset Alliance confirming that 2.3 is coming to the Nexus One in a few days, how long will it be until we see 2.3 on the G2.
I know that one of the biggest pros for the G2 was the stockish android UI and that it should facilitate quick updates for the G2 when the Nexus One get theirs.
My question is, will tmo need to change alot in the update for the G2 or will it be a relatively straight port from the Nexus One?
http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/08/...rms-android-2-3-is-gingerbread/#disqus_thread

It will be here in 42 days.

Tmobile didnt add anything or cut anything so it should be an easy port.
Now for time frame idk. If we had unlock nand it would be on the g2 a day later. but since we have to wait for ota it will probably be by the end of the yr

That's the answer to the wrong question. What's the question? It's simple : How do you &%&%$*$*$38#$(%&*%$4634%*($437*%(%$738$*%. GOD DAMN IT that hurt, I should stop messing with the space time continuum...
Sent from my G2.

Maybe that's just the answer to nand-lock, the G2 and everything!

Thank You
Thank god that one of the best android phones ever is able to be rooted. If the G2 was not able to be rooted, i think that that would just be going against the whole "open source" theme that android is going for ,.

Um, hate to tell you, but HTC and T-Mobile have pretty clearly demonstrated their stance of Free Open Source Software. The whole idea of locking us out goes against the spirit of Linux and Open Source. They are taking the work of others, and using it to turn a profit, screw the user in the process.
My G2 goes back this week. **** you T-Mobile, you just gained another b-stock G2.
Got mine til next Sunday. If no perm root by then, its going back. Guess ill have to stick with the vibrant, but oh well, at least its rootable.

give it time the vibrant is a nice phone no doubt but the g2 will have way more support for one being HTC and two being stock so being able to mod things for the g2 willsorta be how the nexus one is..which has great support who knows g2 might have 3.0 before samsung has 2.2 lol dont quot me either way you have a great phone
I understand, believe me. But I got this phone for its speed, which it def has, its support, being HTC, and the root ability, which is not here, yet at least. I need tether, bad. I hate the vibrant, but its so easily rootable. And I have tether. Had sprint and the evo. Left it for this phone. No regrets other than the crap they pulled on this phone. I wanted the hspa speeds, the vibrant I had right before this one, got almost the same speeds. So why not go back?

Hate to tell you, but the bug referenced is not a bug-as-in-a-hole-to-be-exploited. It's a bug in behavior, where changes to /system are thought to be successful by linux but actually aren't. Instead of getting a this-is-read-only error, the write appears to go through. And when the cache is flushed or when the phone is restarted it's apparent that nothing was written at all.
That said, work is still underway.

i had the vibrant...and i got the feeling i was going to get burned by samsung the g2 came out.... what tuesday? but if you feel you be happier with your vibrant by all means do what you feel i miss the mp3 player but not enough to turn my back on HTC lol i vowed to only buy HTC from now on oh and have you tried pdanet for tethering its free check the market my gf uses it for her laptop

How much can I get for my g2?

So I have a g2 that came from htc and has an imei flagged as a test phone. I was the first one with tethering and wifi calling and have gotten test OTAs since then. I'm getting the mytouch hd. You think my g2 is worth any more than normal?

Personally, I would not want it at all. Never know when they are going to send you a "special" OTA and do something that cannot be un-done.

Exactly. Without proof this is just more BS like the "test" OTAs that went out to like 2 phones a few weeks ago.

This op is one of the ones that got the OTA a few weeks ago. He never made it clear to anybody that it was a special test phone at that time (although he did state it didn't come from T-Mobile). This sent everyone into a tizzy thinking there was the possibility of an OTA for the masses being sent out.
That being said, I'd a pay a small premium for that phone over a standard G2. Risky as far as warranty goes, but that's true of anything you buy used I suppose.

Definitely not crippled. Everything works phenomenal.
I don't understand why this device is worth more, all it has is a test imei that allows for test otas. It's not like it's nand unlocked and can be broken into. No offense to the OP, but once we get the nand unlocked, people that root, won't be looking forward to OTAs, except for new releases of Android instead.

What magic can be done with it? Can it make my mortgage payment go down? Can it make my Ex-Wife disappear? Hell, maybe I would be interested as long as you have proof that it can do magic!
a cop was trying to pull me over, i took my sweet time before i pulled over, even sped up some. when i finally stopped he was pissed. he asked me "why didnt you pull over when i put on my lights, and you even sped up, are you crazy? you better have one good explanation". i replied: "well, sir, my ex-wife left me for a police officer, and i was speeding because i thought you were trying to bring her back". he cracked up, and let me on my way without a ticket.

[Q] Can We Get A LG Quantum Section In This Forum?

Just what the title says. Everybody else got what they want in the wp7 i want my phone section up here. That is not too much to ask is it?
I think they are adding boards when the phone is released / becomes popular.
They should add all the new wp7 phones soon.

Im not quite sure now. I'm hearing two different sizes i was told 3.6 and also 3.8 so i don't know. Either way its still will be a upgrade from my i637 jack.
Is this LG Quantum, LTE capable so when AT&T rolls out LTE, we don't have to change our phones?
I hate to upgrade and pay $199 only to find out that it will stay on 3G.
Thank you for your reply

Several months after the Nexus.
Which is why I will probably end up going back to the Nexus after its updated.
The G2 was touted as being vanilla Android but its not really.
So it will be however long TMO takes to port Gingerbread for the G2.
It wont be Google we are waiting on.

OTA several months after maybe so, custom rom no. Come on buddy, you are posting on XDA. Soon after the Gingerbread source is released you can bet anything that one of the rom makers will bake it into one of their roms or release a rooted version of it...
Sigh.

Doesnt the evo4 already have some small port already? Anyway I'm pretty sure Cyanogen is already 50% through the new gingerbread source code.

I understand but those that are technically challenged (skeered of bricking our phones)
Have to wait on the OTA update.
I agree on that by the time they release it OTA I will have the Nexus S by then maybe even another toy. But the only reason why I love Android is the modding it's the greatest part of all I have all the custom rom's on both the Nexus One and G2 and flash sometimes multiple times a day waiting for the OTA weres the fun in that?
Meh, nothing that amazing in Gingerbread anyway.
Only thing amazing is that on / off animation...
It may not be crazy amazing stuff but I'm always down for some performance tweaks and fixes. And that on off animation is totally worth it.
