What do you guys recommended for a keyboard? Which is the best?

I think it's your job to chose the best keyboard, but I'll tell you my opinion. I use the stock keyboard, but my prefered one is the gingerbread keyboard (it works for me for a few days and after that it FC all the time). If you would like to try some alternative input method, you should try Swype (I don't know if it's available for download now). First a bit hard to use, but if you learn to use it it can be faster then the stock

I use better keyboard. There is a free trial version (no skins). I got the full version because I get bored easily and constantly switch skins. There are plenty on the Market to download.
I use Smart Keyboard Pro (costs money ) and the Gingerbread Keyboard is great... If you look around you'll also find the droid x multi-touch keyboard which is also good.
Thanks guys. Now im using droid x keyboard, its pretty good.

I vote for Ultra keyboard... it's like swype but with more customization options.

Hi guys I'm looking for a good Keyboard for my rooted/s-off Desire. i'm currently on insertcoin HD 2.0 A2SD rom.
Preferably a free Keyboard
Pls suggest.
Why don't you get the Stock HTC.IME keyboard? I think it's the best keyboard around, and I tried alot, Swiftkey, Betterkeyboard, gingerbread keyboard...
I tried a lot of keyboard, swiftkey, better keyboard, smart keyboard, gingerbread keyboard but the best for me is htc ime mod with theme.
HTC_IME_mod themed - best!

You can't beat Swype, as far as I know the beta is still open so you can get it for free.
I vote for swiftkey... not free but I prefer it to the HTC one
Swype, once you get the hang of it it works wonders, hunt and peck typing seems primitive now.
I'll go for the stock gingerbread keyboard.
I think it's very personal. Try the keyboards
htc ime mod with theme
Swiftkey is a good keyboard but hasn't t9 keyboard with HTC IME mod I can switch qwerty to T9 keyboard with a slide

Modded swype keyboard by Eskodroid.
Perfect for me.
now I don't use htc ime but I stumbled across a kitchen
Where you can make a themed one. Its from the nexus one

For me the best is Swiftkey, althought the stock HTC is also very good.
Slide it, not free but well worth the few quid.

For typing in non english i usse smartkeyboard pro. The customisation on that keyboard is endless. For english i usually use swype just cos i'm in the beta and its fun hehe.
Hope this helps

The creator is a DEV named Adbirdie, if you check the Desire Android Development section of the Desire forum, check for a ROM called StarBurst, browse through that thread, on that thread there is a link to all the HTC IME MOD keyboards. Don't forget to thank the DEV.

Not free but i love Swiftkey personally, think it is well worth the money.
Swype is good if you can get it.
Other than those i find the stock keyboard pretty good
I like Swyping but I wanna try something new. What are some good competitors?

You still want swype? If not, try gingerbread keyboard. It's really nice and has no bugs.

No I wanna try something different than Swype

If you want another "swiping" keyboard try SlideIT or load a newer Sense ROM and enable the "trace" feature of the HTC keyboard.
If you want a strictly tapping keyboard, my favorite is SwiftKey X, although a lot of people also like GO Keyboard.
SwiftKey is the bomb. Predictive text at it's finest.

Tried out Swiftkey. Found Swype is still faster for me

I've never used anything faster than Swype.
You have to use SwiftKey for a couple of weeks for it to learn how you text. Now I only have to enter about half the letters to type because it does so well at predicting. With swype I would constantly get the wrong words.

i personally use SwiftKeyX, it's so fast. If you like a Swyping keyboard, you have SlideIT or Go Keyboard.
another vote for swiftkey X
except for this one random time when it wouldn't autocorrect anymore, i was quite sad because it made me realize how much i suck at typing fast on my phone without it :<
I can't get away from Swype. I'm terrible at tapping in words, and Swype gets it right *most* of the time. "Or" and "Our" always get interchanged though. Haven't given other Swype-able keyboards like Slide-It a shot yet.
I feel like I'm fastest at typing with Slideit. I like Swiftkey most for tap styled keyboards though. Sliding is just so much easier for me though. For some reason, only on this phone do I have trouble with tapping keyboards, on my iPod Touch I do perfectly fine, it's just this phone for some reason, and I've tried multiple keyboards.
TouchPal Keyboard is another alternative to the built in swype.
TouchPal Keyboard Market Info
My only dislike about it is lacking in dictionary. I am constantly adding words to it, but all and all it is a good swype alt.

I have to agree that I get the words wrong a lot with Swype. The thing that bugs me about Swype is that if you try to do it fast you almost always mess up and the prediction can sometimes be really bad

FlexT9 is my favorite for tap or trace. Less error prone for my usage than Swype.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using Tapatalk
I've seen several of my favorites listed here. I prefer SlideIT and then flexT9 both are good replacements for swype

I've tried to escape my dependancy to Swype but its just not happening. Touch pal is probably the best slider ice found since. For some reason it just seems much more tap friendly and a touch more accurate but its annoying coming from Swype that you have to go word by word if you wanna do any correcting. Swype I could just pound in the whole sentence and then go back to correct anything that went wrong. Swype just had a few too many nice refinements like circling double letters, swyping to open the number pad or selection pad. One feature I would love to take back from touchpal is the abillity to swype the space bar to turn on or off autocorrect for when you know your going to be tapping out some broken words like a password.

If Swype just had SwiftKeys predictions it would be flawless

I myself have been giving swiftkey a try the pass few days, and I don't see myself going back to using swype.

Hi I've found the HTC keyboard mod but no arrows.
Any fine people know where one is
Yes I have used the search...the force is strong in this one

Just use smart keyboard pro
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA
you can use SwiftkeyX too, in the settings from swiftkey you can change it, see arrows or not, and for me the best thing, is a real num block.
I can advise swiftkeyX too. I use it every day and it works great. You can adjust it a little bit. (e. g. you can install some languages to use for suggestions).
cheers people

SwiftKey is the way to go atm, it is slick, smart and pretty much da bomb with predictions.
If you want cool looking bot for fast typing and serious writing keyboard go with Slide It

If you a laid back typer like me touchpal is an excellent option. I'm not a fan o QWERTY in portrait mode think that's the reason I stay from swift

I use TouchPal. Disable TouchPal curve and then you have swipe down symbols which is a stroke of genius.

I've been using Swype for the last two years, works like a charm!
I'm trying out the SwiftKey Flow Beta right now, seems even more intuitive, although there's a few tidbits I prefer in Swype.
I guess it all comes down to whether you prefer actual typing or swyping though.
I like Kii Keyboard. Much more settings. Support Swipe method input.
use voice engine
the best thiing is using skyvee app:laugh:
Swype
Swype is my favorite. I've tried several gesture keyboards and I find that swype cares the least about how I swype. I also love the "ctrl+c" and "ctrl+v" ability.
At this moment i think that Swiftkey Keyboard is the best choice.
For me the best of all is the swype.
If you're bilingual like me, check out Swype, fast switching with one touch, but don't install versions 1.4, they tend to be sluggish, 3.26.92.39062 is the way to go
As for swift key, doesn't really work well with two languages.

I am using swift with 3langs, German, Turkish and English and it is working well, I am using the same layout for all and have not to switch between the languages.
