Keyboard for Desire [Suggestion Requested] - Desire Themes and Apps

Hi guys I'm looking for a good Keyboard for my rooted/s-off Desire. i'm currently on insertcoin HD 2.0 A2SD rom.
Preferably a free Keyboard
Pls suggest.

Why don't you get the Stock HTC.IME keyboard? I think it's the best keyboard around, and I tried alot, Swiftkey, Betterkeyboard, gingerbread keyboard...

I tried a lot of keyboard, swiftkey, better keyboard, smart keyboard, gingerbread keyboard but the best for me is htc ime mod with theme.

HTC_IME_mod themed - best!

You can't beat Swype, as far as I know the beta is still open so you can get it for free.

I vote for swiftkey... not free but I prefer it to the HTC one

Swype, once you get the hang of it it works wonders, hunt and peck typing seems primitive now.

I'll go for the stock gingerbread keyboard.
I think it's very personal. Try the keyboards

htc ime mod with theme

Swiftkey is a good keyboard but hasn't t9 keyboard with HTC IME mod I can switch qwerty to T9 keyboard with a slide

where to get this HTC IME etc?

Modded swype keyboard by Eskodroid.
Perfect for me.

now I don't use htc ime but I stumbled across a kitchen
Where you can make a themed one. Its from the nexus one
Forums but should work on the desire :

I always use the stock Gingerbread keyboard. You can find it in the market for free.

For me the best is Swiftkey, althought the stock HTC is also very good.

Slide it, not free but well worth the few quid.

For typing in non english i usse smartkeyboard pro. The customisation on that keyboard is endless. For english i usually use swype just cos i'm in the beta and its fun hehe.

The creator is a DEV named Adbirdie, if you check the Desire Android Development section of the Desire forum, check for a ROM called StarBurst, browse through that thread, on that thread there is a link to all the HTC IME MOD keyboards. Don't forget to thank the DEV.

Not free but i love Swiftkey personally, think it is well worth the money.
Swype is good if you can get it.
Other than those i find the stock keyboard pretty good

A better keyboard app?

Hi,
I got a HTC Wildfire and am having a very hard time typing on the on screen keyboard, i am finding the buttons a bit to small and it causes me to type words incorrectly, i do use the spell checker and word suggestion but still could do with a decent keyboard app, perhaps one that has bigger buttons.
Can anyone recommend a good app that may meet my needs?
Thanks
MR
you should try swype. ive been using it since i bought HTC, my wildfire =)
have smart keyboard now, with openfire, I like that one! Think it costs 1-2$ though
Hi,
I looked for Swype and cannot find it on Android Market / App Brain.
I would love to try it, anyone got a link for it?
Thanks
MR
I use ultimate keybo

Swype, better keyboard, slide it, thumb keyboard (search for it on xda), swift key, 8 pen (on xda)
Swype for wildfire
i can't remember where i got this from, i think here on xda. but you are looking for
SWYPE_1.54.28.7337_QVGA_LSmo_by_Maruban.apk. this works a treat on my wildfire
my wildfire had swype on it as standard and i was gutted when i flashed wildpuzzle and found i had lost it, so was chuffed to find a version that worked
there's another keyboard app called "slideIT" u can get the demo from market =). Supports many languages input too. Try it out =D

I don't know why you would want the stock one when it doesn't even have multi-touch...
Just install smartkeyboard pro, it looks exactly like the stock keyboard but with multi touch, plus some other goodies.

thats probably why the stock android keyboard doesnt work. it doesnt support multi touch lol i never would have thought that.
s10shane I did that also and it force closed but its not because of the multitouch because the g2 has a multitouch chip and still runs it..

I may be missing something, but I believe my 4g already has the stock keyboard -- you just press and hold in any text input field, choose "Input Method", and select "Touch Input" -- that seems as close to a stock android keyboard as any I've seen.
I just installed it as well. I like the options it gives for customization but the prediction doesn't match htc's. At least not with changing the settings I have found.
I like sense's keyboard and how it shows the suggested words as I am typing. Skpro doesn't seem to have that option.
I'm willing to keep smart keyboard just because it wasn't that expensive but I may need longer to appreciate it.

Keyboard

What do you guys recommended for a keyboard? Which is the best?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I think it's your job to chose the best keyboard, but I'll tell you my opinion. I use the stock keyboard, but my prefered one is the gingerbread keyboard (it works for me for a few days and after that it FC all the time). If you would like to try some alternative input method, you should try Swype (I don't know if it's available for download now). First a bit hard to use, but if you learn to use it it can be faster then the stock

I use better keyboard. There is a free trial version (no skins). I got the full version because I get bored easily and constantly switch skins. There are plenty on the Market to download.
I use Smart Keyboard Pro (costs money ) and the Gingerbread Keyboard is great... If you look around you'll also find the droid x multi-touch keyboard which is also good.
Thanks guys. Now im using droid x keyboard, its pretty good.

I vote for Ultra keyboard... it's like swype but with more customization options.

[Q] HTC_IME or similar compact qwerty?

So I'm having incredibly trouble using HTC_IME on my phone... I tried v27 and v23 of Jonas' keyboard and it wouldn't work, I even used one of the newer hd ones I found elsewhere from a couple months ago, still no luck. They all install perfectly fine but when I try to use them they just force close before even opening up.
Is there another 'free' compact qwerty keyboard I can use that works on the play? I really like the HTC_IME and would like to get it back, but I'm having horrible luck.
Any suggestions? Need more specifics? Let me know if you can help!
Im using the htc_ime_mod from gimpsta.com now works fine on my play, i used the v2.7 hi res froyo kitchen

Thanks a bunch, worked like a charm!
I'm using swype. Works nicely.

SwiftKey ftw
Swiftkey X beta is my favourite keyboard, the autocorrect and predictive text gets better the more you use it. Most intelligent keyboard i've ever used...almost too inteligent

Have you ever tried just hitting space a bunch of times to see what sentence it comes up with?
does the original gingerbread keyboard work on the play?
Slideit works awesome too

Swype is free on their website atm

+1 for swype its works alot better than the standard keyboard and its cool to use too
There are a couple of themed HTC_IME mod keyboards for gingerbread which also work on the XPlay on these forums.
The only problem with it is that the calibration tool force closes.
Thanks for the heads up on SwiftKey X beta, better than the original.

SwiftKey is the way to go atm, it is slick, smart and pretty much da bomb with predictions.
If you want cool looking bot for fast typing and serious writing keyboard go with Slide It

If you a laid back typer like me touchpal is an excellent option. I'm not a fan o QWERTY in portrait mode think that's the reason I stay from swift

I use TouchPal. Disable TouchPal curve and then you have swipe down symbols which is a stroke of genius.

I've been using Swype for the last two years, works like a charm!
I'm trying out the SwiftKey Flow Beta right now, seems even more intuitive, although there's a few tidbits I prefer in Swype.
I guess it all comes down to whether you prefer actual typing or swyping though.
I like Kii Keyboard. Much more settings. Support Swipe method input.
use voice engine
the best thiing is using skyvee app:laugh:
Swype
Swype is my favorite. I've tried several gesture keyboards and I find that swype cares the least about how I swype. I also love the "ctrl+c" and "ctrl+v" ability.
At this moment i think that Swiftkey Keyboard is the best choice.
For me the best of all is the swype.
If you're bilingual like me, check out Swype, fast switching with one touch, but don't install versions 1.4, they tend to be sluggish, 3.26.92.39062 is the way to go
As for swift key, doesn't really work well with two languages.

I am using swift with 3langs, German, Turkish and English and it is working well, I am using the same layout for all and have not to switch between the languages.
