Changing text size in froyo browser? - Galaxy S I9000 General

Is it me or did the ability to change text size in the froyo browser disappear?

Yeah and its kinda missing from email you have small, medium large you used to have smellets, smaller, small, medium, large, larger

I still have it via pinch-to-zoom. Some websites (BBC mobile) don't work with it though.
If anything it's better than it was previously as before I had to double-tap to do text reflow, but now it does it automatically. This wasn't on by default and I had to change it in settings.

Digging up this old thread because I've come up with a method for the Epic4g which I believe will also work on i9000 and other Galaxy S phones:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1136116
If someone can confirm it works that would be awesome as I don't have an i9000 to test.

Opera - Stop Auto Content Scaling?

I've been using the Opera Personality Switcher so that I can view iPhone sites on my TP2 (they usually have more features). the personality switcher works great but the pages scale weird since the iPhone has a different resolution than the TP2. and i've found that when i allow pages to load in portrait mode, it also cuts some stuff off.
so i was wondering if anyone knows a way to have the browser just zoom out/shrink to fit instead of trying to rearrange stuff to fit to keep the content the way it's supposed to be? i still want it to be able to adjust text and stuff but i don't want it to do it until i tell it to zoom basically.
it should be version 9.7 although i'm not sure exactly the revision number since the latest MightyRom i installed didn't have a change log.
ok nvm. i know i didn't really give people a chance to respond but i seem to have found an answer. i didn't realize that Opera Mobile 10 had gone final (i had the beta before but it was too buggy to be my default) so i upgraded to that as my default browser and it handles the scaling exactly how i want it to.

[Q] browser settings for archives.newyorker.com??

Hi,
Has anyone found a browser that allows you to read the on line archives of the New Yorker magazine? The built in browser only shows part of each page and does not let you move the screen around to see the rest of the page. Have tried all the UA strings but no joy.
I did find that I could read using the Dolphin browser as long as I use the URL of archives.newyorker.com/ipad and set the UA string to ipad though the display is still less than ideal. Sometimes portrait mode single page display shows the full page but reduced in size to about 75% of normal so it does not fill the screen and the type is quite small. Other times it does actually fill the screen but has a flashing white bar at the bottom.
Perhaps someone who is more familiar with Dolphin can suggest what adjustments to the settings in Dolphin will optimize the view. I'm perfectly happy using the built in browser for everything but the New Yorker and Dolphin for only the New Yorker if I could just get it to display clearly on a consistent basis. In Dolphin's page content settings, I have text size set to Large and Default Zoom set to Medium. I switched the ipad applet settings so that portrait mode shows a single page - just wish I could get rid of the flashing white line at the bottom.
On the other hand, clearly the people at the magazine don't care about Android users since the display in most Android browsers has been garbled since the first time I checked, a year or more ago but they were quick to jump on the iApple tablet bandwagon with a page optimized just for the iApple. Even the archives on DVD don't display properly when saved as a PDF since they're actually djvu files so I can say New Yorker hasn't exactly been technology-savvy or else they just want to keep selling dead-tree magazines even though they finally have a chance to ditch the paper, ink, and distribution/postage costs with a digital model if they could just embrace modern browsers and tablets.

Apps Confusing the Note as a Full Size Tablet

Has anyone else run into this problem? Care to list such apps?
Google Music's interface is much different on the Note than it is on an S2 (at least for me). Where on the S2 artists, albums, etc are displayed in a long list of names, on the Note they are displayed in a long list of thumbnails of the artist, album, etc. This layout would make sense on a full size tablet and horizontal scrolling but it is very inefficient on the Note. Also much more taxing on the hardware (not that the Note is lacking in this department though). I would much prefer the S2's layout to quickly find an artist or scroll through the list.
Swiftkey X gives a warning when installed saying the phone version is incorrect for this device (the Note), use the tablet version. However, skipping the warning is not detrimental and the phone version works perfectly on the Note (have not tried the tablet version).
I assume this has to do with the resolution of the Note and apps confusing it as a Full Size Tablet. Anybody else seen this problem? On what apps? Workarounds?

I don't know if it's a 'problem'.
I don't necessarily like it with certain programs (some games are a bit painful to play), but I don't consider it a bug or anything.
It's a matter of detected screen resolution and how the app decides to use it. I don't see any workaround for it, unlike windows where you can use a selected resolution.
It would be nice for there to be an option to set screen resolution.
I imagine there are some people interested in the note because they want the larger size (larger icons/text/buttons/etc) but not necessarily the higher resolution. You can't always set that.

it has full tablet resolution so it should run like that

Ya, I know. But for some apps it really is not optimal. Just trying to get a feel for how many apps are going to encounter this "problem" (for lack of a better word).
Use spare parts to make the adjustment

Plume thought that my note was a tablet. However the support team gave me a corrected version and said that it will be sorted in their next release

[Q] email Font

This is an issue that I have had since I got the phone.
As I have gotten older, my eyes have gotten worse, so I need glasses to read small print. I can read my text messages just fine, but I have trouble reading many of my emails. The font is just too small. This stinks, since I don't carry reading glasses around. I contacted Samsung customer service about how to increase the size of the font, and they said that it cannot be done. The size of the font is set in stone. I do not believe this is a problem on other Samsung Galaxy S phones, and from I can tell the new Froyo update did not provided a fix.
Anyone else find this annoying? Anyone know of a way to get around this problem. Too bad you can't tap the screen to enlarge the font.

All i can think of is changing the screen density, but...will also make parts of the screen not visible, so if you do go this route, only do increments of 10, i am not sure if our phone supports font swap but i will look into it asap.

Pat tried to change the screen density, in Miunia and it had all sorts of wierd consequences. Not to mention, you'd have to be rooted, and edit build prop to do it. It might be easier (If you are rooted) to get into the apk and change the font sizes in drawable. How large do you want it? And are you rooted? If so, I'll see about decompiling and tweaking it. Also, which e'mail app are you referring to? stock e'mail, or Gmail or what?
Email font
Yes, I am rooted.
I an using the email client provided by Verizon. It connects to my pop3 accounts As far as font size 10 would be good 12 would be better. Getting a new email app might work. Are you using one that allows enlarging of the font. Can you recommend an email app that enlarges the font?

Jelly Bean Issues (Please Stick)

So Far I Have Found
- Default Apps Will Not Stick
- Custom Ringtones Do Not Stick
Anybody found anything else?
I have no problems with them, nore do I have it on my s3, but both of those are reported by others on the s3 too (but not by too many people).
I imagine its a mixture of something you ahve installed, or the way your setting them that differs from people like myself who are having no issues at all.
first thing i noticed.
opening browser and looking at a webpage using video (HTML5) and close it. the audio from the video continue in the background although all windows are closed, and only way to kill it is closing wifi.
but maybe its just a onetimer.

Not out to find fault with the devices , i love it , but these things should work ideally ie. replacing existing ringtones on /system/media, but it doesnt
1-Quick controls on the Browser are not precise and the X button in it either missing or not working properly.,the one on my Galaxi Tab 10.1 are much better.
2-The rebranded stock Swype Keyboard is not good.on my original Mote worked great,I use Swype all the time.
3-On the Lock Screen cant change the location of the Clock while with ICS it was possible,I preffer the clock on the bottom of the lock screen since pulling it slightly from the Napa cover will reveale the time.
4-The music sound with the Earphone is very low and the Equalizer doesnt help at all to raise the volume as it was the case with N1.
5-Both in the Gallery or the Camera app every time touching the picture a manue of picture thumbnales appear at the buttom blocking the view which is very annoying due to limited screen size.
6-Tap and Rotate the Lock Screen to open the Camera application is very buggy and doesnt work all the time.
7-Scrolling in the stock Weather App is instant without any transition or animation which sort of reminds me of my old HD2 Windows Mobile.
So far these..
I found that all my videos which were on the SD card was not being detected by the default video player unless i moved them to the Internals SD
Dont know if this is a fault with my Firmware or everyone
