I'm happy to say that I'm back on my Samsung Vibrant! The G2 is a great looking phone, and fast at that too. Issues that made me walk away from it....
Hinge was fine when I first got it, but after a few weeks it got really loose.
Force closed on my Apps so many times, it made me wanna toss it out the window a few times.
Rebooted itself at least once a day. This morning it did it 3 times back-to-back. Really?!?!
Can't get a perm root, and it looks like a few are starting to give up on it. I'm sure it'll be rooted, but not any time soon.
I really missed the Vibrant crew. You guys are a bunch of cool Mother F__kers!

Oh, and I know this is minor, but I couldn't do this <3 because the G2 is missing this key "<"

I didn't do anything to it at all. I didn't even try to install temp root either. I didn't want to mess with the phone till their was a perm root.
If you go to the G2 forum section, you'll see that a few people had a issues with the phone rebooting on its own. Even when I called T-Mobile about the issue, I was told that they've been getting calls about the issue.

There has definitely been people having issues with the phone rebooting by itself. Sometimes even 3 times in a day like he mentioned. Seen plenty of people on my Twitter timeline complain about it. There seem to be a lot of issues with the phone.

I am on my third G2 with the fourth replacement on the way and so far all have had very similar issues.1.Very very poor to no reception. 2. random rebooting, 3. Black screen freezes. 4. Dropped calls. 5. Loose hinges that keep getting looser. 6. When deploying keyboard apps start randomly. 7. Very difficult to connect to market. 8. Powers itself off on a random basis. I am so Grateful that I still have my Vibrant. So far I would rank it way above the G2. If my fourth one has the same issues and there is no OTA update to fix some of them I will send it back. IMO I believe the Vibrant is the best phone available at this time.

Actually I'm not giving my Vibrant up just yet. Once my G2 gets here I'll have both. I was able to get the G2 new for $200 flat-out (no contract) So I'm gonna keep them both for a while and see what happens. Then maybe I'll sell one

2 blackberrys, 3 Iphones, 1 nokia, 2 Winmo Phones, the G1 and the Hd 2
Of all those phones only the HD2 came close in overall performance to the Vibrant...... but not android and what a battery hog- did like the htc sense
What I like about the Vibrant (besides almost everything) it is very forgiving when you brick, I have been able to restore from all screwups I have created within 1 hr.
Within the first 20 min of trying a G2 I knew it was going to be buggy that is why I stayed with this phone

Anyone try the EVO 4G? I wouldn't switch, I was just wondering. I love my vibrant, but my friend is switching because of the hype of 4G and the large screen. I've never tried seen an EVO up close so I'm not sure how good it really is.

Yeah I had the Evo before I got my Vibrant. It's a good phone, but Sprint sucks and the hype of the 4G is complete bull. I got about 4mbps tops on 4G and my Vibrant gets 6.

This thread help me decide somethings. I am kicking Verizon to the curb because of billing issues. I am really looking at T-Mobile. Not sure if I want the Vibrant or HD2. I have a Droid X and now hooked on the 4.3".
Had thought about Evo but know the battery is horrible. I thought of the G2 because of HSPA+ but looks like I need to do the Vibrant or HD2.

Personally I'd rather they get rid of RFS before I worry about Froyo. Faster JIT sounds nice but when your largest bottleneck is the FS, it doesn't matter. It's like driving a Ferrari in a school zone.
I love everything about the phone except the RFS. RFS is an example of companies drinking their kool-aid and wearing their sneakers, with the same result when it comes to plastic bags and breathing.
If you flash Bionix, Master ROM, AOSPish, or Eugene's R4, your phone will run like butter. Like. It's ridiculous how fast this thing is. I can't even stand to use the Nexus One it feels so laggy after witnessing such smoothness on the vibrant.
Other than that. My G2 also went back. It's not worth the hype nor the money. They could have made it AWESOME but no, they made it suck. The Vibrant is THE best phone. It out-performs EVERY phone in both power and slickness. The screen is the best. Once we get Froyo rolling we will be king. Forever. The only comparable/better phone to the Vibrant in smoothness (on menus/swyping screens) is the iPhone 4. But that's Crapple.
As far as the Evo 4g goes, it's ugly, and 4g aka Wimax is ***** **** that can't even touch T-Mobile's 3g itself, let alone HSPA+. My vibrant pulls 6.3mb/s. Sprint's 4g can't do that. Sprint is a joke and should be sued for false advertising
As far as the Droid X goes, it's huge and bulky. I just got one for testing on WQVGA854 screens for my apps. It's a decent device but it is more sluggish than anticipated even on Froyo. My vibrant on 2.1 runs Way smoother than my Nexus, G2, and DroidX combined, and they're all froyo.
The Vibrant is also a lot more slick than the Droid X. The Droid X is huge.
Also, depending on your location of course, T-Mobile is the best and 2nd cheapest (cricket), and most honest *cough*at&t*cough* provider. They have the nicest reps and the fastest 3g.
Vibrant -> ALL.

Not to mention the Vibrant can get the FFC now as well. HSPA+ is only 8-10MB/s here in Pittsburgh as compared to 6.3MB/s, so it's not THAT big of a difference.

And an unlimited-point touch screen with a QuadrupleSuperAMOLED HD lmao and 1920/1080 resolution... ROFL. Along with T-Mo's 42mb/s HSPA+ when that rolls. Not to mention a Camera button on the same side as the volume rocker and a mini HDMI out on the other side and... blah. Yes I dream.. 10 megapixel camera... records 1080p... a WiFi module with the power of a laptop's... and some real bluetooth compatibility... and a flash on the back camera... Make it Quad Core processor at 3.0GHz too LOL. I've gone too far.
OH and can't forget the quad-speaker setup that it should also have. Two speakers on the back and two speakers on the front. (top/bottom) and a 6800 mAh battery... that lasts like. 2 weeks. And make the touch screen feel like you could almost be touching water. But not wet.
Hahahaha. And. Uh. 1TB mini-SSD internal drive With 8GB/s transfer rate. Boots up in 5 seconds. Would be instant but needs a splash screen

Yeah You are dreaming...and misrepresenting the truth. By the time you get Froyo it will be time to get a new phone. I had the Vibrant for almost 30 days (Cali) sent it back before the remorse period. I rooted it on the first day, the screen is over saturated for my taste (hurts the eyes) and the quality of the phone is plastic and flimsy. The Samsung Epic is a better choice. As for Sprint, I have hit 10+ downloads speeds in the valley and overall they have more coverage (3G) then T-Mobile. The Roms for the Vibrant were sorely insufficient for my taste as well, plus touchwiz is just ugly. Try taking a picture without any light, no video calls, no front camera, no dual led flash= less than Evo or Epic. However, it is slightly behind Nexus and Incredible as far as what it can do. The processor is geared toward gaming, but in other areas it will fall short. Run a linpack on that thing if and when you get Froyo and tell me what you get. You will never get above 20 mflops. So, in that area all the other phones I mentioned are killing the Vibrant.
I returned 2 g2's because of random reboots, so yes that is an issue

I hate the amoled screens personally. Looks to oversaturated imo. I don't like slide out keyboards either. Not saying the epic isn't a good phone as I've never owned one, but I wouldn't trade my evo for one. So my vote would be the evo.

I own and evo and my friend has the epic which I rooted and setup...... go with the EVO. It's simply better and the community support on XDA as least is better for the Evo.
Evo, but you wouldn't consider the Shift? Shift would be a better bet than the Epic. Slightly smaller screen, people are saying the keyboard is better though. Know you said that wasn't necessarily a deal breaker but worth a mention.

I thought about the thunderbolt but its got no support we don't know if its rootable yet do we? I don't mind going with Verizon but I hear you can use verizon towers with sprint and its less money and has 4g.
I just switched from epic to evo and here's my deciding factors...
The slide keyboard makes the phone feel cheap overall. Others say its a general Samsung thing with cheap feeling phones but I prefer the weight and solidity of the evo. And I don't use the keyboard but for emulator gaming.
My eyes seem to take a liking to the evo screen more than samoled.
And the development seems to be way ahead of epic,granted time on market...
like someone already said, the shift seems like a good compromise of the two. i know it has an 800mhz processor as opposed the the 1ghz that the epic and evo both have. But its the same processor as the T-mobile G-2 and it is just as fast as my evo.
The Evo. I switched to the Epic a couple months ago from the Evo. I realized it was a bad choice in about 2 days. The keyboard on the phone won't get all the input that you type in. And I type fast, so this annoyed me greatly. Though, the camera on the Epic was better than the Evo's. But still, Evo > Epic. The Samsung UI is also kind of crappy. I love sense so much more, that is why I had to switch back to the Evo.
Ok well it seems like the epic is out as most people think other phones are better or suggest other phones all together.

what kinda of phone are you on now?? I know one could wait forever just waiting for the lastest and greatest are always around the corner. But seeing the phones coming out of CES now sprint should have some details about their next flagship phone for this summer at CTIA it might be just worth waiting
I have the incredible now and to tell you the truth it works great, just need a phone for private use and want to go with Sprint I won't be able to make it to the summer and really don't do much with my phone but email and some utilities like wifi stuff work typing things.

Evo, the wife got an Epic even after I kept tellin her to get the Evo. More for the keyboard. Touchwiz sucks, can't believe it didn't even have a flip album like sense. Little things like that you take for granted. Hated how the keyboard would always slighty open while holding it with one hand. And to me the camera didn't work that well. She ended up gettin the Evo and me one to for Xmas Sprint employee.

I have both, got my Evo on launch day, got my Epic a month or so ago. Needless to say I am using my Evo again. Epic is a great phone and a great performer but I enjoy the Evo more personally. You really need to use both and see which sticks out for you but I would go with the Evo....in fact, I did.
Definitely go evo. Much much better dev support and more importantly much better support from htc as opposed to the no updates from samsung.
EVO.. is best choice.. for me.

EVO has better build quality, better design, no extra free space on top or bottom of the screen, better screen (IMHO) .... Feels premium device. Oh yes huge development support here at XDA.
EPIC has better GPU, Keyboard (which I don't care for, may be big deal for you), SAMOLED (which I think isn't suitable for browsing and reading).
I am VERY happy with my EVO. Get an EVO root, Flash ROM, throw a speedy Kernel in and You won't look at the EPIC again.
Just wanted to put my two cents in.
I was in the same boat as the OP not too long ago.
From a performance perspective, I expected similar results from both, even though epic has the faster processor (how much faster...?). The previous phone also had a keyboard that went mostly unused 95% of the time. Software wise I expected both to be similar as both are based on the same OS.
I later found out the evo does indeed have much better development support at this time. Epic being a newer product is still catching up I suspect.
But overall, 2 reasons why I went with the evo
1) larger screen
2) price - got this for $110 OTD during the holiday promotions.
And actually, #2 was really the final deciding factor.
So I got the Samsung Galaxy S 4G on friday and idk what it is but im iffy on it. I like everything about it no complaints but the G2 has been on my eye since it came out. So im asking you all with your own experience with the G2 if i should go return and get one.
Haven't personally used the galaxy S 4g. Is it the same as the previous one, but with a new radio in it basically? Seems to be the case.
The G2 is a great phone and I'm sure you'll obviously get mostly positive reviews in the G2 section, but its up to you really. At this point in time, unfortunately, the G2 is starting to get a bit dated (sad considering it just came out in September), but then again the GS 4G is gonna be shadowed by the newer Galaxy S II devices coming out soon as well all the same. I would put them in the same group really.
The phones are quite different, considering that the G2 is stock android and a keyboard slider, whereas the Galaxy S 4G has a customized TouchWiz UI and no keyboard. Performance is about the same I'm sure, but its really up to your preferences at that point. The GS 4G has a front facing camera, and a slightly faster processor (out of the box that is, you can overclock the G2 just as much), and other than that, not much. The biggest deal is which form factor you like more.
If you plan on rooting your phone and going that route, and that is something that is important to you, maybe you should look and see how the dev communities of each phone suit you. This also means that the stock software differences between the 2 wont really matter because you'll be putting custom ROMs on it anyways then.
If the Vibrant 4g is the same thing as the Vibrant except for the 4g chip, go for the g2. I came from a Vibrant to a g2, and I wish I had done it earlier. The g2 is faster straight out of the box, no stupid lagfixes needed. I was at first concerned about going from a 1ghz chip to an 800, but the g2 blows the Vibrant away, even without overclocking.

Yea lol so true but I wouldn't mind having a phone with a bigger screen since I peronally like big screens but that's me. As for the G2 its a fast phone, never shows lag even if you have filled the screen with wigets

To me the vibrant was light and simple. Great for calls and watching movies and listening to music. I do a lot more on my G2. Emails, more texting... I just feel more productive with a keyboard.

Word... To be honest, you really don't notice much of a difference between the 2 screen sizes. Watching Inception on 4 inches vs 3.7 is not going to show you what you were missing out on. It's still a tiny screen for movies. The difference with the screen will be the LCD vs SAMOLED. Its nice, but not worth everything else the G2 has, from amazing hardware, software and dev support to the camera flash and slide out keyboard.
Unless you do some serious video chatting, I'd get a G2 and wait to majorly upgrade in 6 months or so when we have a bunch of dual cores on the market.
Trust me, go with the galaxy s, once you root it you will love it. It has a faster processor than the g2, a bigger screen, a super amoled display, and is thinner and more durable. I felt the same way you feel at first about my galaxy s, but now this is the only phone I want. Its AMAZING.

Let me preface this by saying to each his own. I would never discourage someone from trying any other Android phone. That being said.... I have never used a Fascinate but had a Vibrant and LOVED it until I realized how awesome the G2 is. The problem is, the ONLY way to love that phone, is to root it. And even then, a lagfix must be implemented for decent performance. I remember when I shat my pants because the Vibrant could be OC'd to 1.4gzh and show me a Quad of 2300. My G2 can do that if I submerge it in the toilet and run Rhapsody while I OC and run the benchmark (hyperbole alert).
Maybe the GPS is fixed on the SGS4G, but it was awful on the Vibrant for so many people. It's durability is easily questionable, as it feels like it is made of dollar store parts. It only has a faster processor out of the box. The G2 is capable of much, MUCH more.
Bottom line, IMO, if one is better than the other, the differences come down to user preference and not general real world experience. Team Whiskey makes some AMAZING ROMs for the Vibrant, but CM is barely limping along with bug after bug. And I don't even know for sure that Vibrant ROMs can be run on the SGS4G, or how complicated that particular Port is.
Thanks for the input guys I have 1 week to decide what to do. I was wondering what the Quad for the G2 is just off the bat because mine is only about 975.
i have used a few phones beforee settling on my g2. one of htem was the samsung captivate which is basically the galaxy s 4g in a different body and without the 4g. i can tell you that the g2 is way better. samsung makes th galaxy s phones really crappy(all plastic) and probably wont ever give the new galaxy s an update that all of the other galaxy s users are still waiting for(2.2!).
I have had stock Quad scored range from 1500 - 2000, rooted and OC'd I can get in the 3000's
if i were you then i would exchange them, but i cant work without a physical keyboard
I have a regular Vibrant and a G2 (one is a work phone). Both rooted on custom ROMs. G2 is on CM7 while Vibrant is still on Froyo.
If they could have put the Vibrant screen on the G2, it would be the best phone on the market. I'm not saying just because of the keyboard, but the G2 is a more solid phone over all. It's faster (albeit, overclocked) over all.
To each his own though. Having CM7 is worth it for me.
IMO G2/Desire Z is one of the best phones out there and is worth the money. I have been using it since december, been back and forth between nexus one, desire, desire z and i am finally picking up my dz back. not letting it go this time... love this phone... it really rocks...
I'm currently a captivate user on att contract, and I am thinking about jumping over to a DZ... but I am having trouble justifying paying 500$-ish for a new unlocked phone that people are starting to call "dated."
However, I made it a point to myself that I will NEVER buy a smartphone without a physical qwerty ever again. Swype was cool for a few months, but it's impossible to be productive with an entirely touch screen phone... and to me that's just a contradiction to the "smart" in smartphone itself

Consider it an evil of the technology treadmill. A newer product is typically going to be faster and better than an older one (unless the manufacturer really screwed up!). You'll drive yourself crazy envying every new phone that comes along that is newer than what you have. So unless you have wads of cash to buy every nice looking phone that comes out, most of us have to make a decision based on the choices you have at the time you want to upgrade, and live with it until you can afford the next upgrade. No doubt, even if you bought a Galxy S2, you would end up salivating the next "latest and greatest" in a few months. Appreciate the fact that you have a nice performing, solidly built phone with a hardware keyboard, that has (and will continue to have, for some time) great developer support.

I know my phone is good and dev support is GREAT, which will allow it a decent enough lifespan for some time to come.
But I just wish someone would put out a super-phone WITH A DAMN KEYBOARD!! I don't care what it would cost to buy, I would buy it. Sure this phone can be OC'd quite nicely, but with the weak mono speaker, average camera and video, screen which is rubbish in direct sunlight, etc. it's not really my dream hardware :-/
Here's hoping the next Nexus comes with with a keyboard, dual (or quad!) core, a gig of ram and decent multimedia components!!

I hear you about the direct sunlight. That absolutely blows. Someone wants to trade me the nexus s and I would be all down for it except the no keyboard and few other quirks like no sd card.

I know i'm in the minority on this one but screens can be too big. HD7 for example. Just looks gaudy and over the top to me.

I'm with you 4.3" is to big. My bro has a DHD and I find it uncomfortable to use.
My boss just got SGS2 and I have to admit I'm a bit jealous because it is awesome. But I can't see my self ever having a phone without a hardware keyboard so the S2 is a no go for me. I'm certain my next phone will be the successor to the G2, assuming that HTC backtrack on the whole bootloader thing.

I hear you about the boatloader. That is a dam shame any way you look at it.
I am not envy of any other phone that does not have a hardware keyboard!
If you want to deal with odin and lack of support for updates. Go samsung. They make nice hardware. But what good is the hardware with crap support to back it up.

Ditto. There may be faster bigger brighter phones out there, but the g1 and the g2 are such solid phones. They refuse to die. Specially g2 at 1.5ghz. It can still compete. Developers support is do big as compared to some other phones. Htc all the way. Hoping for unlocked bootloader on the sensation.

Indeed. My Z can do anyting I need from a phone including playing ps1 games and map keys to play with. What more can I ask for. I will never give it up unless there will be a new powerful mobile with hardware keyboard, which is layed out the same way as the Z keyboard where every other row is shifted.

Couldn't have said it any better myself sir! I absoletly love my phone and I have yet to be envious of any phone since getting mine back in Nov. Love the rom I'm using and couldn't see myself using any other.

I had an HD2 for ages, an S2 for a few days (then sold it because I could make £160 profit on e-bay due to people paying silly prices!), now I've just ordered a desire Z to give it a go (£263.39 on ebuyer inc VAT)!
Though the S2 was nice & the HD2 does the job, I'm now much more excited about having a hardware keyboard than anything the S2 had to offer!
Unless you dislike hardware keyboards, I agree there's no point having phone envy yet - the S2 does nothing that the HD2/Desire Z can do; it just does things more smoothly!
I would agree that there are phones out there that might be 'prettier' and provide some 'eye candy' but I don't think I would trade my DZ for any other device out there right now.
I too cannot live without a hardware keyboard and the DZ has one of the best keyboards I have ever used. It took some getting used to because of its size, but after that initial period, a keyboard has never felt better in my hands.
And while it may not have the fastest Dual Core Processor on the market, I have yet to find any set of tasks that my DZ can't handle. Throw in the unlocked bootloader and arguably the best developer support of any Android Device and you have a recipe for a long-lasting, competitive smartphone.
I won't even consider upgrading until we get a phone that looks like a 'G3'...
i work at best buy and i see this same situation almost everyday. technology is a love hate thing. you just have to realize that its going to be constantly changing, and getting better. lets not forget that the vision is still a highend phone, and kicks alot of phones asses. i love my g2, but i do see myself getting a htc sensation. ive come to realize that although the kb on the vision is amazing, its not something i have to have. the vision is a great phone, along with the desire hd, nexus s, mytouch 4g and all of the phones that came out the same time this one did. its awesome. you just have to realize that if it does what you want with no problem, then why hate?

I'd have to disagree with the fact the Vision is high end any more. On release yes, but 6mths down the road it's only just mid-range in pretty much all areas EXCEPT the keyboard. Single core chip (albeit a reasonable one), 512mb RAM (really? The DHD had 768mb), an average 5mp camera...
I think we make a lot of excuses for this phone, just to have the keyboard. I had to think long and hard about keeping my second one because of the questionable z-hinge, and decided that I'd have to live with it since there were no other qwertys coming out (except the Droid 2/Milestone 2 which is a no-no with encrypted bootloader).
I hate the weight of the thing, I hate the battery life (which although better than my old Desire, is still pretty poor as I work in a weak 3G area), I hate the fact I struggle to see the screen in the sunlight, I hate the sh*t-arse weak speaker which struggles to get above one decibel without distorting, and I hate the fact that HTC always cheap out on cameras, the video-recording is crap.
People come to me at work and ask what phone they should buy cos I'm kind of that guy who knows a little bit. And they've all seen the recent HTC marketing campaign here in the UK, they're like "Oh you have an HTC, do you think I should get this HTC (model)?" And I find myself saying "No, get this Samsung, or get this iPhone, they have better features that you would get use out of".
I know I'm not at the point where I want to give up the awesome dev support that HTC phones usually get, but I am at the point where I hope devs start supporting other brands a lot more too. Especially in light of HTCs locking of bootloaders, and the fact it's getting harder and harder to get full access to them. HTC has the big rep as the hacker's choice, but I don't think their hardware justifies it any more. Not at the moment at least.
Don't get me wrong, there is no other phone I'd rather have at the moment, since one doesn't exist. And the rom I'm on is frigging amazing. But if Samsung bring out an S2 with a keyboard then I'd have a heard time saying no to that, as would a lot of other people I imagine. I never thought I'd consider a Samsung after last year's update debacle, and I'm still hesitant now. But if enough devs get one, then they would sort out any probs the phone has.

While this is true and all, I still think our phones are the best overall hardware for someone who needs a physical keyboard like myself. There are plenty of physical keyboard models out there (not as many as touch only of course), and there is still yet one to come out with better overall specs than this phone.

Yep, and that's the BIGGEST problem with Samsuck. They tend to make pretty incredible hardware (minus the vibrant, who the heck makes a camera without a flash nowadays?), but their support is absolutely abysmal. A friend here at work has an Epic 4G, and he's STILL on Eclair. Absolutely unacceptable support.
Picked one up Saturday at Wal Mart knowing I'll have 14 days without penalty to see if it knocks my socks off...
Guess what? It's Tuesday, and I'm back using my N1.
Ya, the Sensation has some nice eye candy and naturally evolved features built in that currently require 3rd party apps on the N1, but it just didn't have that "Wow" factor for me.
Makes me proud to have a Sexy Nexy. It may be rare (I've yet to see another), a few years old and not as big as some of the others, but she's still got life, my friends!
The encouraging part for me, is the fact, I've yet to have the balls too root. So there's still a lot to look forward too for me.
You know what I'm gonna miss most about the Sensation? IT'S GOT TEETER!!haha, I'm serious. I love that little game.
wow if you returned to the n1, and on top of that you have not even rooted your n1, then wait till you actually root this thing! it becomes an entirely new device with a good ROM on it.

I just sold my MT4G after getting it to replace my semi-broken N1. Back to using the N1
I sold it because I wanted to get the Sensation, but now I'm not so sure after reading this thread and others in the MT4G and Sensation forums.
What to do? I cant rotate my screen or use camera with my broken proximity sensor, camera and led. so i am hurting and would like a new phone.

I tried replacing my N1 a few times before (MT4G, G2x) but they didn't quite cut it. The Mt4G just wasn't... better enough. I went through multiple G2x and none of them worked right.
I grabbed the Sensation and I am entirely happy with it. No issues so far after 2 weeks, and it does everything my N1 could do and more. Minus rooted things, which I do really miss. If I could just get SetCPU on the Sensation like my N1 I'm sure I'd have amazing battery life.
I had the Sensation for about a week, but just returned it today. Each device had one minor issue, which was just enough for me to go back to the Nexus. The performance increase wasn't really there, either, though I'm sure once they have root that'll be fixed.
I was on the Atrix but now I'm back to the Nexus One. I love this phone and the trackball. Nothing else seems to cut it. It's like a bad drug habit. Can't seem to let it go. Lol

No, no external contacts, but it does automatically go into a dock mode in the car dock, from what I've heard. People have said it responds to magnets, but I haven't experienced it personally. I haven't picked up a car dock yet cause I really can't find a good place in my car to put it. Same issue I had with my N1's dock, lol.

I have a G2x and love it. Running CM7.1 RC1 which was basically the same as what I was running on the Nexus One. The G2x does have some software bugs but CM7 fixed most of those.
Would I go back? Tough choice. I LOVED my N1. If I lost or killed my G2x and someone gave me a N1, I would use it without question and it would probably subdue me for a while.
The G2x is a pretty good upgrade from the N1. Tegra games are amazing and the touchscreen recognizes 10 inputs.
The trackball is missed when correcting typing but CM has a kernel based hack to light up our touch buttons for notifications.
I can see, using CM7 on N1 to CM7 on G2x, that the upgrade may seem dismal. I do, however, use the HDMI out and bluetooth gamepad for gaming.
If gaming isn't your thing then the Nexus One is still perfect.
Everyone who is returning the Sensation seems to not be giving any real tangible reasons for doing so. The OP lists not getting "wow'ed", but obviously that will always be subjective from person to person. downey_ryan had three devices each with a "minor issue" but won't list what they were.
For those of you downing on the Sensation, I challenge you to find some tangible reasons why the N1 is better than the Sensation. I'm not saying none exist; I just want to discuss them, rather than a "I hate the Sensation but won't say why" thread.
Anyway, a week and a half ago I sold my N1 and picked up a Sensation from Amazon. And you can tell by my signature, that this was NOT an easy decision! I've been a member of the XDA N1 community for quite some time
All throughout this time I have been absolutely dying for a larger screened phone (the Sensation is T-Mobile's first 4.3" Android), and the jump from 3.7" to 4.3" is already a HUGE enough reason for me to make the switch.
With the N1 having a larger bezel due to the trackball and HTC really minimizing the bezel on the Sensation, the total difference in pocketable device size is minimal. And compared to the benefit of such a larger screen, it is amazing. I can actually read a lot of text comfortably, and certain apps display a lot more content at once due to the qHD screen.
And this is not to mention the Sensation is even thinner than the N1 anyway. It's so thin and light that my coworker held it and said "You should put a case on it to protect it", and I already have a case on it (This one if anyone's interested.)
As I said, the screen size (and thinness, and lightness) is already a big enough reason but the lack of a trackball is actually quite nice. I thought I would miss it more, but the lack of a trackball makes the phone look sleeker, and makes it easier to put a screen protector on it to protect the entire face of the phone, buttons and all. Selecting text without a trackball is a bit more difficult, but the combination of Gingerbread's text selection tool and the qHD screen make it a non-issue. (And trackballs are a thing of the past anyway. Not a single new Android phone coming out has one, so it's best to used get used to not having one anyway.)
I admittedly missed trackball LED notifications for a few days. But then installed NoLED and instantly forgot all about them. It's much better because it displays notifications using the entire screen, which is more noticeable from far away (can configure to turn off via proximity sensor when in pockets etc to save battery), as well as repeated vibration/audio reminders (extremely helpful). If I had to switch back to the N1, I'd still use NoLED in a heartbeat.
Another huge issue is fixed as well, and that is that I can finally use multitouch everywhere without having the axes get flipped and sticking. And not to mention I can finally play all the games I couldn't play on my N1 with the much-increased processing power.
Sense 3.0 is very beautiful. Every person I've shown my phone to is instantly in awe in the first 5 seconds in just unlocking the screen, with the bouncing circle unlock and the carousel homescreen animations. I've had no issues at all so far with Sense, and I'm loving the Sense widgets, namely the photo album widget. I purchased LauncherPro Plus a long time ago, but I actually like Sense better so I have not yet had the need to use LP+ even though I paid money for it.
Speaking of paying, I sold my N1 for $200 (after the buyer's downward haggling) on Craigslist and bought the Sensation on wireless.amazon.com for $179, no tax, free shipping. So the cost was a no-brainer -- I actually made money
I would encourage everyone to make the switch. You would be surprised how fast the N1 sells on Craigslist. I literally posted in the morning, found a buyer hours later, and sold it right after work the same day. It's still a great device, and I probably could have gotten more for it (the buyer haggled down), but since I already profited from the switch and it sold so ridiculously fast, I didn't care too much.
Anyway, all in all, I am extremely satisfied with my upgrade. When the Hercules is finally announced (if ever!), I'll check into it , but for now I love my Sensation and the N1 before it. The funny thing is that I had a G1 before that. All three are HTC devices, so I guess no matter what device you pick, HTC has been good to me

1.5 years old and still keeping up with the big boys.
It'll be a while before anything really impresses us again. The fact is, the Nexus One was a well-thought-out device and includes most all of the features one needs in a very practical and elegant package. I don't want a bigger phone or another cpu core. 4G would have been enticing if the carriers didn't start capping the data plans and NFC will hopefully become accepted and I can quit carrying a wallet around, but until then I'm in love with this device.
One last thing, even with everything Google & HTC put into this phone, it wouldn't be half as great without the wonderful support from the community. Thanks guys!
I love my N1. I have a Defy, and a Desire HD also, but keep going back to the N1. Just the overall use, feel, and sexyness of it makes me want to use it. Plus it has the best call quality I have ever used. I like the Sensation's look/features. Reminds me of a bigger brother to the N1, but I just can't pull the trigger. My N1 does everything I need it to do, and I'm sure it can do a lot more, so no reason to stop using it. If anyone is looking for a new one here are some places to get one. All are T-Mo bands. The ebay ones are cheaper by a lot, but welectronics is a safe reliable place to buy. All are new in box. I bought an extra just to have. For $260 it's cheaper than my original insurance with $150 deductible and $10 a month payments over the life of the phone.
