Yeah, a bloated and slow UI bogging down my fast phone.

**** sense! That's why I bought a samsung device.
This should be in XDA general/general thread.
good day.

No i wouldnt use Sense either....if it was slow. Alot of people LOVE sense. I love the useability and friendlyness!!!
Chopper I know you hate sense. But I need eye candy man!
There are about 15 good devs working on getting The NEW sense UI on to ALL Galaxy S phones.
Its a Good option. Isnt that what Android is about? Options???
BTW were on the same team!!! Team Android!!!
Android = More Freedom + Choice + OPEN MINDS
Apple = Well .... nothing but Apple!!
And you gotta admit Sense has the best widgets!!!

even the fastest phone will slow down if the UI is bloated.

What do you think of the epic so far?

I will have to admit that I have been a HTC WinMo fan boy for the last 6yrs. Wm was not perfect but, it got the job done. Custom roms were good but, they always had bugs. So when I got my EPIC an my first android phone I was blown away. The speed how well everything worked together. I was amazed how people complained about touchwiz. I don't see anything wrong with it. Maybe because I don't know of any better interface. It not as flashy as HTC sense but, it seems fast.
I hear alot of nitpicking here about the phone. They compare stock EPIC roms to Custom roms on other phone. Not realizing that everyone doesn't like the custom rom you love. I don't know of anything being perfect. But, some of the people that bought this phone were expecting more.
I love the phone. I just wanted to know what others think.
I'm amazed by it. Every time I get a spare second, I want to pick it up and play with it.
I really like the design of the phone more than the other Galaxy S variants. The soft touch back reminds me of the EVO, and the screen looks so good sitting there with the phone turned off. Which brings me to my next point:
This screen is so brilliant. I've not noticed any of the issues people complain about. It's gorgeous. HD movies look better on the Epic than any other phone I've seen (EVO and iPhone 4). I constantly want to change my wallpaper.
The speed of this phone is fantastic. It's faster on 2.1 than my EVO is with CM6 (Froyo). I never used sense on my EVO. I actually stuck with touchwiz for a while before I finally installed launcher PRO. Again, Launcher Pro AND Touchwiz are faster than anything I put on my EVO. Menus scroll with no lag at all. Apps open very fast and games are perfect. I didn't like that a lot of games ran slow on the EVO... and some were downright unplayable. I'm a big gamer, so this is important.
The keyboard is pretty convenient. I use swype for most things... like texting, emailing, etc. But I love the keyboard for when I need to type numbers, usernames\passwords, website URLs, etc. I also use it for games\emulators.
All in all, I'm very happy with this phone. It's not for everybody, but it is definitely for me. I've actually made a few iPhone 4 users jealous. They were never jealous of my EVO
I love love love this phone. its deff worth the move after being an iPhone user for 2.5 years. I love the freedom I have to make and customize the phone to my taste vs just having a glass screen with shortcuts all over it. every time I wake my phone I swear I get more and more amazed by the screen quality lol.. the phone is very fast and snappy. the only complaint I seem to suffer from is my battery life =/ .. other than that this is deff an iPhone killer in my eyes.

If you are talking about the team I think you are, they said they are waiting for official froyo to do it..
Once official froyo source drops. Things will go more smoothly.. its amazing that our devs here have made the progress they have given the lack of necessity available.

I was just about to make a thread asking about the development of this Galaxy Sense we heard about last month.
With launcher pro a custom dock and beautiful widgets you can make your homescreens look just like the sense ui if you want it for the ascetics or as a placeholder til it gets ported

The Hero was the first android phone I ever owned, I loved sense on it because there were so many ways to customize it to my liking, tw just sucks, I want to go back to the evo so I can go back to the sense + froyo + CM6, but the epic's keyboard and excellent performance are keeping me here

Yeah I know alot of people like it pure google.
but to me it just isnt appealing or as functional.
the hero was my first android device so I did get spoiled
with htc sense. Just to my likings that it brought a better
experience and refresh to the Android interface. Widgets and apps.
I prefer it over TW. There are just a few things I prefer TW
over sense per say.
I think the rom was released and then discontinued for the galaxy s i9000 due to the devs having muliple issues that they were not able to resolve. Link to post --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=877902
The only thing I ever liked about Sense UI were the widgets and the Weather effects.
With LauncherPro, you can get pretty much identical widgets, and then Beautiful Widgets will give you the same look of the clock widget. Plus, LauncherPro is infinitely customizable and you can do pretty much anything with it....
Sense UI has always been extremely laggy and slow in all the times I've used it, as a ROM port on my Nexus, and also stock on the Evo/Hero.
Wouldn't mind trying it out again on my Epic though!
The older version of fancy widget is also a wonderful alternative to the sense clock/weather widget.

Sense 3.0

Do you think custom ROMs will allow us to have HTC's Sense UI 3.0 on this phone?
Oh... boy... here we go.. i admire you for having the balls to ask about Sense UI in Samsung thread. Hehe. Short answer is NO!!!

I'd love to have it, with the recent reports showing the horsepower that it have coupled with Sense 3.0 that would be the perfect phone to have
If people want the HTC Sense experience then they should look at a HTC Phone. Although a Port is possible, its very time consuming and by the time someone actually port's it over with all the drivers working, your device will be close to the yearly refresh and you will want the next best thing. This will leave the developer in a limbo where his efforts didnt truly pay off.

It's not possible, Galaxy S is half baked, Nexus S also try, half baked. Samsung uses totally different structure on android Nexus S can't even port TouchWiz and its the same manufacturer. I would love to get S II spec wise it blows the Sensation out.

Id say its all about taste. Personally I think motorola's UI is the worst, followed closely by the apple wannabe touchwiz. Funny, I actually hated sense as well at first, but now that im using it for a while, I LOVE IT.
Also, its because htc has added soooo much functionality, like finding/wiping/ringing from anywhere(laptop) incase its lost, or stolen, etc. Plus auto-backup of messages, apprx 100 very useful widgets, plus may apps wich save you a lot of time if you had to download one by one. Basically, its a complete package that looks good and offers functionality that no other manufacturer can even come close to, especially being built in from start. no headaches. I myself wish it could be ported but I doubt, especially with how "involved" its gotten lately

I had a Galaxy S, then Atrix and now Inspire. Next I'm buying Galaxy S II because the bootlogger is unlocked and I want the light weight, dual core processor power and video enhancements.
The Inspire is amazing. I like it far better than the Atrix because I can put custom roms on it. I was able to root the Atrix and do a few modifications but it was very limited. I strongly recommend the Inspire.
The Sensation is locked down as is the Atrix. If you want a good out of the box phone Atrix is as good as you get until the Galaxy S II arrives. Sensation will be great but probably about the same as the Galaxy S II.
It is hard to recommend a phone without knowing what you do with your phone. For me the unlocked boot logger is the difference between buying and not buying.
Personally I prefer Sense.I think that Samsung have basically copied the iPhone in design and UI. If someone could remove the native Samsung bloat and add sense, all would be good in the world(for me at least)

Couldn't have put it better, dude. trouble is, can we have the best of both worlds?
Sent from my RafDroidHD using Tapatalk
I think we can. If enough people that have bought a SGS2 ask for sense then I am sure someone(developer) will be willing to design it for SGS2. From what I have seen of custom roms so far, I think that there are some more than capable developers out there that could do it. If I could write code I definitely would(perhaps I should start learning. The only question is can an old dog(me) learn new tricks?????)

Sense SDK

Should be interesting here, should help with the dev's who want to port over sense to other devices.
http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/03/htc-announces-opensense-sdk-and-htcdev-offers-paradise-inside-i/
Not at all. It pretty clearly says that the SDK is set up in such a way as to make it no easier than a straight up port when it comes to non-sense devices.
IMO, i don't like it, but I also really like it!
It's great that they're developing Sense, but for me it's too much of an Apple-like move, cutting it off from everyone else.
Android is about "open-source" and well this SDK thing, just locks you down to Sense. :/

Who are you referring to when you say "our"? And I'm not talking about a UI. I'm talking about the move to create a mini-market for only Sense UI things. Not the actual UI, of course, each manufacturer to their own UI, it's what gives them an edge over the other manufacturers making similar spec android phones.

[IDEA] Sensation ROM

Hi guys!
I'm an HTC user and a sense fan however i am very interested in SGS2 and thinking of buying it except that I'm a bit reluctant about the user interface and the overall user experience without the beautiful sense which in fact does make sense!
So i was just thinking if anyone thought of porting a Sensation ROM to the SGS2!
Imagine all that software beauty on this hardware beast! IMO it will be a fantastic combination!
So guys is that feasible?! Did somebody try it?!
PS: Don't flame me or something, it's just an idea...
Try searching the next time.

Talking about User Interface? SGS2's Touchwiz 4.0 is completely different from Touchwiz 3.0. It's more fluidic, intuitive, neat and bright. Try it once and I'm sure you won't want to have Sense in it,.
