I'm thinking of buying the HTC HD2 but is there much point now, if it won't be getting updated and newer and better phones are coming out?
I'm looking at it as it has the biggest screen(besides the streak which im also considering, but much more expensive)
What would you suggest?

if you actually like winmo as it is, with the way windows phone 7 is shaping up the hd2 could become a very valuable antique.

What has been your phone history? And what do you use or intend using the phone for?
WM, iphone and android suit different ppl and WP7 looks weird imho...
well if you have the patient to wait until the end of 2010 or so, just wait. i didn't have or why don't you try Evo?

Over the last couple of years, ive only used the bold 9000, HTC Desire and iPhone 4, however i sent back the iphone 4 as the ui is getting very boring.
I use the phone more for texts and internet than phone, i primarily want to use it for web browsing, thats why the streak appealed to me, but this is cheaper, im just worried about updates, and the lack of official support after WP7

I can't wait until the end of 2010 i have no phone at present lol. Also im in the UK so the Evo is a no go otherwise i would definitely have it.
if you like bets, get one now.
If the bet goes well, you will buy a "cheap" device which will get a fully functional froyo OS on it when the android devteam has completed the job, and be almost at the level of the Evo, without its bulkiness... and before the thing goes out and the demand increases, making the prices go higher.
If the bet goes bad, you still get a cheap but powerful device with WM on it
Anyway, given my experience with the device, and the market which is available for italy, I would get it again now as well.

Try before you buy my friend.
I've been using winmo for years and I love it. The HD2 is my favorite device yet.
Winmo users generally love to tweak. These forums make tweaking fun and you can usually get whatever you need, want and more for your phone if you're willing to search for it.
That being said, some find winmo and the HD2 an utter frustration. Some lament about buying the HD2 because it doesn't do everything right out of the box.
So if you like to customise, tweak and experiment, you may just love the HD2.
If you like something that works to it's full potential right out of the box, but may not be quite so custimisable and tweakable, perhaps another platform would be better.
i really NEVER recommend ppl a windows phone.. except i know that he can handle it.
i dont know u, so i would recommend android
u NEED to know what u do when u are using winmo, or u will hate it
The more I read about WM7, the more I am glad I have a WM6.5 phone, and I'm not planning to 'upgrade' to such a locked down platform.

I love tweaking, which is another reason for considering this phone, and which is why i got rid of the iPhone 4.
I love the idea of registry tweaks, which may sound weird, and i also love the idea of a winmo device being just like windows on the pc (regarding registry tweaks).
And regarding having everything work out of the box, i find that very boring, im always looking to do new things with a phone.
The only problem i am seeing is the future updates, looking at Android they are going to have constant updates, but obviously winmo 6.5 is not. however if i know that winmo will be getting unofficial updates from devs etc i will be more than happy to buy the HD2.
Thanks for all the replies so far.
Ok, i went ahead and bought a HD2, hopefully i'll enjoy it.
Please post your experiences with the phone.
And how much did you grab it for? US or non?
if you need big screen then definitely go for hd2. i was in your position. but screen size was a dealbreaker. had there one android phone with screen as big as this, i wouldn't have bought hd2

i have to say i agree about the screen.. i have a hd2 and my friend got a desire soon after me.. the screen estate difference is just HUGE...
and i recently ran the android test build side by side with his phone screen beside mine.. the difference just got worse coz the widget icons are much smaller in android compared to the quick link icons in winmo..

Awesome, i cant wait for my HD2 now .
I was getting sick of the headaches after surfing the web on my iPhone 4 due to the small screen.
good choice.....
you made a good choice op. hd2 is my first wm phone and i'll admit, i love it. the tweaking on the phone is good fun. at the moment im running CHT and SPB Mobile Shell side by side as well as having loads of other little tweaks to make the phone my own. theres a ton of really good apps and software floating about the net.
The only bad point i can think of is Opera's non support of 10.1 for wm6.5. Skyfire's pretty usefull for flash though so all's not lost. i'm sure you will love your new phone bud......

Only 2 good phones to get

Evo - Anaroid
I love my Htc HD2
Great news for me at least as it seems that WP7 on the HD2 is alive and well. Here is a video showing it booting up fairly similar to how we boot up android. It has not been released yet but from the new on this website it is not far off. I assure you it is all very legit and will be here soon. I used google chrome to visit these sites as it auto translates so let the actual countdown begin. this is exciting for me at least as I think HD2 was and still is the best mobile HTC ever made. this thing runs Android, WM6.5 and WP7!

Yead and they it will be available by end of the next week... in our dreams of course...
SO when ?!
So when finally we can use one of these WP7 ?!?
it is taking much more than I expected !
yeah it seems to be working, but seems also quite slow/sluggish compared to, say, the hd7. maybe it's due to the boot from sd
howcome in the video the IE tile has nice graphics while on all other phones i've seen its flat like all other tiles...?
well i am just happy it still alive and well. it does seem a bit sluggish but it is out there and will be available soon. it boots off microsd like android so there will be flaws. like android however it will work well. seeing that the htc hd7 had a microsd as its internal memory( pictures on the web to confirm) we should be very optimistic to have this running near perfect on HD2

old build
this looks like an old build that's running on the HD2. that's why the IE icon looks different and also that's why it's slower. the newer builds have performance improvements. let's hope they get the final build running on it too.
also, did you notice the other phone in the video (Mozart) had AT&T branding on the hardware, but Telus branding on the software

Sure they'll get it sorted to go to the masses (us) now if they could only find a way of getting it to run from phone and not MicroSD we really would be laughing .
An Arsenal fan living in Liverpool bet you didn't know if to laugh or cry today hey .
The Pool did us a massive favour today good on 'em .
Soo yeah, It was on the main page recently that a build of windows phone 7 would soon be released for HD2. I know I'm begging for a good flaming for this but is there anywhere I can find an update on the status of this project? I know its a locked down OS and blah blah blah but I use the HD2 as my business phone and would like it to have a more business appeal to it. Does amnyone have an idea on the status of this project?

WM7 will come , but like chefs told its just a demo. i dont think its will for a daily use. Android is enough .
i just don't get it. can't the device handle the os?
I think it comes down to if the team is willing to crack the OS so everything works. Last I heard, the thing thats holding back release and making the OS usable would be Windows Genuine Phone. It prevents non-genuine versions of windows phone to work properly. Without live tiles and access to apps, the usefulness of windows phones is non-existent.

of course it can, its just the fact that porting a complete OS is a massively complex task that us mere mortals can barely even comprehend.....
the devs need time and for others to be patient....

im waiting like all you guys and wondering that when will the developers launch an upgrade of wp7 on our htc hd2 . The current version is good but the bugs are lowering its ratio of people keeping it for its daily use . It would be great if the developers could tell that when will they launch the upgrade .
+1 for that
please developers update the build and fix bug specially camera focus and green with flash
I guess no update till MS do their update ,maybe due to the fact that not alot of demand compare to Android. Most bugs are WP7 related not HD2.
yes the green colour in camera is so bad . Any idea that when will MS launch the official wp7 for htc hd2 ?

Dude there isnt going to be an update from M$ for teh HD2. We are going to have to wait for the HD7 update to be released before it can be ported to HD2. The update however will close the ability to unlock and use homebrew so people are going to have to decide what they want to do, install early or wait for new unlock hack.
okay well then have to wait for htc hd7 update . when is that expected ? how can i fix the camera issuse ?
Hmm not sure what you mean by green photos have attached a pic I took the other day with the HD2, running WP7, very clear, am very happy with the photo's so far...
Hopefully any future ROMs released for use with the HD2 will have our device listed as a HD7 so registry editing won't be needed, we will have to see what happens!
Mr Thuduk im impressed by the picture quality of what you attached . But mine pictures at low light/night that i have taken come with a green tint in it

When you say developers are you referring to M$ or XDA etc?
im refering to MS and Xda both , but i feel more dependent on xda developers as they have proved to be best everytime .
I think he means when will we see an update for the HD2 that sorts out the HD2-specific problems (touchscreen, camera, etc) rather than the update coming from Microsoft for the official OS.
I'd like to think DFT are working on the issues, and aren't just leaving it as-is.

If im not mistaken the original OP in the chinese forums has stated that there is only one rule if we are going to use the ROM >Not asking for updates...And ...yet you all are discussing...This is the reason why i have quit the PSP developing world shortly after i released my first work back in the PHAT days.Everybody acts like DEVS are bound to post a new version ....no they do have a life,in most cases even better than yours and still they find the time to use their hobies to create something for the consumer base...My point being that if your peace of mind is fully working you are going to put up with the bugs, which i dont think are this big of a deal and shut it...
PS- The shear tought that my device is a combination of 3 nearly bug free Operational systems that alow me to use it for 3 years non stop plus some more to come instead of some crapy feature phone wich breaks when it touches the floor brings chills up my spine
Dear Amazing developers,
I am sure you have encountered this question several times but I just need to understand if I can install Android system on my HTC Trophy 7, I am hating how microsoft is hounding their users in such stupid way. Please advise.

Why don't you just sell you WP7 phone and get yourself a new Android device ? The market price on a Trophy is as high as it's going to be, so you'll get the most for it now.
Also you don't not have to worry about Hacking Android to get it on the phone, that sometimes might not offer the best performace or hardware not working correctly.
Just wondering...
Is there anything new about putting Android on HTC Trophy, since last reply and asking about this was about the end of April..?
Thanks, and thumbs up for developers...
Nope, nothing new.
Please get yourself and stock android phone, i perfer WP7 over ANDROID everyday.
because they all have android least the trophy? Someday there will be someone dared you succeed? (before you break into pedas) jajaja
Some info to all the xda.cn video is just a fake confirmed by cotulla
anyone knows if somebody is doing it..? I mean, dooes it 'fits' on HTC Trophy..?
thanks
Why would anyone want to do this? And even more important why would anyone want to build a ROM? Screw Android. I'd rather someone make a Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM for the Trophy instead of this crap.
I do not agree with you... I believe it would be better if android fits on HTC Trophy... That possibility would be great!
