It's not IOS, it's a clone of the OS itself:
http://www.9to5mac.com/25932/ios-4-ported-to-htc-device-performs-like-an-iphone-3g-running-4-0
And from Redmond Pie:
http://www.redmondpie.com/ios-4-on-htc-android-phone-video/
It's a very good clone, I'll admit that. I've been using IPhones since the first gen (just recently went back to my 3gs and then my HD2 after selling my IPhone4) and this actually looks really good. Fonts are off though and there are some animations missing. With that said, if you are a geek of any kind I can't see why you would not want this. Even if you hate Apple, this is still a conversation piece if nothing else. I'd get it but then again I just love anything that is not "quite as it should be". Would not use it for a daily phone though, something to sit on the desk maybe?
EDIT:
Dude why did you start the thread, let me respond and then delete your post?lol Even though its not really IOS, it's still interesting and I thought it was a good thread.

Advice for Iphone user

Hello all, please excuse the ignorance of this post. I have been an Iphone user from day one of the 2g Iphone, currently having a 3g one. Getting a little tired of the Iphone, and have tried Win Mo on a Touch Diamond (dont hate me but I wasnt a fan of the OS). I have been looking at the vids of Hero on www.coolsmartphone.com, and starting to become quite taken. Was just curious if anyone out there is an Iphone user switching to Android OS, in particular the Hero. Really just looking for some opinions, and I am not trying to start an Iphone haters thread, just looking for some advice.
Although I'm not a huge dan of the iPhone, I much prefer its software to Android. I'll set aside the iTunes store and bandwagon effects (when people develop for mobile, they develop for iPhone) for now.
I feel that Android has too many buttons. There's an end, home, and back button. I'm not always sure which one to press. Also, it has multitasking without and inbuilt task manager. I don't know how to quit vs. hide an app. I think its app specific.
That said, the Hero software is much better than the standard Android build.
I was given an Ion at Google I/O, but I've hardly touched it. The iPhone, even with its own limitations, is still a better phone.
Cheers for the quick reply, still undecided.
I'm not quite an iPhone user, just an iPod touch. All I can really say is that the iPhone has a lot of great apps, browsing and calendar is great, as well as other features. I've never owned an Android device but I'm looking at the Hero too and like how customizable it is. I guess I just want to try something different.
I have never owned an iphone but been a LONG term Winmob user. I moved to Android yesterday and there is no doubt, Android is light years ahead of the current version of winmob, but, and there is a but, when you are so used to something, even good change can be a little frustrating. My point? If you use and like iphone, and remembering (if we are honest) the whole iphone experience is more visually and aesthetically appealing than winmob (with whatever rom you fancy ) ...and in a lot of areas, more functional, then I would imagine you as a long term iphoner would find the journey to hero/android a little traumatic.
You might like it for a day, then think 'but on iphone I did this', etc.
So, in summary, I have made the leap as winmob was just becoming too dated and for me, the nuances are acceptable but for someone from an already decent OS, you may think, after a while, I prefer where I was.

Free app, tasKiller - works great for shutting down running apps, just put an icon on your homescreen and 2 taps is all it takes.
I was suffering major app slowdown before installing this, sometimes multiple instances of the same app were running and slowing things down, this app is a god send!
Thanks. I figured there would be something like that - my comments were more in reference to the iPhone v Android discussion.

Although I will agree with some of your points othese I wont.
I find that andriod is more asthetically pleasing than the iPhone and when you state that the poster would think "the iphone did this" they will also think wow my iphone didnt do this...
To the original poster, why dont you take a trip to t-mobile and try their phone before you buy, only you will know what you prefer.
I used to be an iphone user and hated it after about a week, the main issue for me seemed to be multitasking, amazing how much I use that.
Anyways just my opinion, each to their own, but dont discard the Hero nor should you leap into buying one, read, read, read and try in store.
Certainly, do not discount the Hero, it is a beautiful piece of tech.
If it helps you any, I kept my Hero for 3 days, then returned to the Kaiser. I have sent the Hero back.
Now, is the Kaiser better? As a tech experience, NOT a chance, the Hero is much better. As a functional tool, the Kaiser is more (for me).
Example, it syncs locally, completely flawlessly. The Satnav apps on it are mature and established, if truth also be told, I found an onscreen keyboard not a patch on a hardware one. These are key reasons I need my phone.
Will I go back to Hero? I would have thought very likely. It needs to mature a little, then I will be back in. I will still miss the hardware keyboard though. Pressing a screen is not a patch on pressing buttons. But as an iphone user, that will not be any issue for you.
iPhone
I've just sold my iPhone 3G and ordered a HTC Hero, I think being a Mac lover there'll always be a thing for the iPhone and the whole user experience - no matter what anyone says. But I just wanted to try something different and the Hero looked promising with the Android and mainly what HTC has added to it. Hopefully it doesn't let me down! If I do miss the iPhone too much then I'll just upgrade in 9 months once my contract finishes!

Hahahaha. Whenever i see somone with an Iphone its like Whatever. Its like so not 2009. It just got old for me. I sold my Magic to get a Htc Hero:
I had a G1, sold it to my friend from work, bought a Magic, played with it for 1-2 weeks. Sold it and now im getting a Hero soon!

No One To Share Joy With But XDA...

It's crazy. The phone is great, it's what I've wanted for years. I got it just today and besides having to get used to the on-screen keyboard I must say it is the best phone I have ever used.
The Rhodium, in retrospect, was a clunky machine, and one of the best windows had to offer. This late in the game though, just an antiquated OS. I am so happy to be done with a Windows.
Why the thread?
Do you, geeks that we are, find no one in your immediate circle who understands?
I got home and am soooo satisfied win my decision, no longer having to tinker and be OCD, I know, not very geeky. Just I think I have been spending a bit to much time modifying and not enjoying my phone. I also didn't want be in he hands of Steve and the fruit phone.
Any similar stories...
Mine stopped vibrating after 5 seconds, apart from that great phone.
Quick tip: Setup haptic feedback on the keyboard if you haven't already. It truly makes a touchscreen keyboard 5x easier to use/learn.
I'm basing my opinion on haptic with the N1 vs. non-haptic w/ my iTouch. It's nice to have "something" that tells you that you just pressed something.
Also, learn to use the auto-correct. Especially holding down new words/names that it normally "tries" to auto-correct. (Such as "app(s), Haha, and various others that the phone tries to correct to really odd words) (Haha, will default to BAHAMAS!!!... WTF?)
Just thought I'd try to be useful
I know exactly what you mean... I got a TyTN II and the first thing I did was flash a custom ROM so it would actually be useable... then, after about 6 months, I found out I could run Android on it... really well! After a couple months of looking at it, I finally took the plunge to see what Android was all about, not thinking I would be blown away, especially considering I was running it on a WM device.
What did I discover? Android ran better on my Kaiser than WM did! I was hooked, and a couple months later got myself a G1 to replace the Kaiser... The G1 still had some issues, IMO, in terms of speed and found myself still flashing customer ROMs, but it wasn't out of total neccesity at least.. and now, I have a Nexus One, which is hands down the best phone I have ever experienced! I don't even feel like it is needed to put a custom ROM on it, I have and will again, but the stock experience is more than fulfilling!
Mate, I get the exact same feeling.. No one really "gets" me when it comes to this phone.
It's just a phone they say, what does it do that your HTC Diamond doesn't? Seriously.. the only thing I can come up with, is it has a flash.. But we know it's so much more than that, don't we?
I've already been told by a few people; "oh don't buy googles first phone, it'll have lots of bugs, you should wait till the second release." Little do they know nor understand.
First moment I got my Diamond I flashed it because it had too much carrier crap on it. Who wants everything to be customized by someone else.. Seriously..
*Eagerly awaiting my new shiny phone*
I was quite surprised by no real bugs to be seen or heard of myself. I was wary of the purchase, but easily the best one I ever decided upon.
I'm still trying to see if the great developer folks figure out a re-lock... But every day I'm considering rooting... Ugh!
I can connect to my home PC (Edit: from anywhere with 3G) and mouse and keyboard around on it using the Remote RDP program for Android. I find this impresses people fairly well.
I'm fine with using Gmote for free to pull any music/video to my phone... Still haven't hopped onto the paid apps bandwagon yet. Still working my way through the free apps, to get a grasp on what I like, and don't like.
But, it would be nice to have even more control remotely. I'm just staying in minimal-mode for a bit.
I'm surrounded by iPhone and BB users, most of which are completely, utterly technologically illiterate--I'm talking about people who don't even understand processor speeds/RAM size, so they can't even appreciate how fast the Snapdragon is. People who aren't users of either want one. "Android" is like Greek to them.
I do know a few geeky people, but they're rare around here. :/

I did the exact same thing man. I had the first gen iPhone for about a month, hated it. Then got the AT&T tilt, and flashed a custom rom on it. I worked at T-Mobile, and my co-workers would say, I should just go work for at&t lol, then I finally got the G1 a week before launch and fell in love with android. Its the best OS I could have asked for and knew it would be a winner. Then up until 2 days ago, I finally received the nexus one and WOW, it is so much faster, i'm still shocked. I haven't rooted or installed a new rom because I don't think it needs it. It runs great stock. Awesome phone, that I think only us xda nerds know how to appreciate. It really a great device upgrade for those of us who had stuck with the G1 for so long.
Nice feedback
I made a thread saying why I moved in the Rhodium forum and should have known better. I just wanted to share. They are letting me have it.
But it is so true, this device is a great medium. Customizable, elegant, powerful, what more could we ask for(lets further he Convo)?
Glad you guys love it. I'm looking forward to getting one for my wifey while I get the HD2.
Well then she can hang with the best and you can hang with the rest
I tend to explain the phone as "a netbook with a phone feature that fits in you hand." The specs truly are that of a netbook.

No question... the N1 is the best phone I've had.
Love my G1 and still use it but my N1 is my dress to impress phone...
Agreed.
Noone has a clue enough to appreciate it.
Unlike the iPhone it doesnt have a hype machine to make people desire it.
For selfish reasons I dont want too many people having them. Id prefer everyone knowing about and wanting one..but few actually having it.

Is Kevin Rose this out of touch ?

http://revision3.com/diggnation/episodes
Flash wars...first 5-10 minutes or so.
Just want to say love Diggnation and Im a big fan of Kevin Rose.
Been watching him since TechTV days and ((back then more than now)) he really seems to know his stuff. Somewhere along the way he reaaaallly became a hardcore Apple fanboy. Which is fine , he admits it. But his breakdown of why he didnt like Android/Incredible was just mind boggling.
My initial reaction was WTF ? Pretty much the complete opposite reaction Leo Laporte had with his Nexus One.
((I bring Leo up because they came up together and have and still do work together)).
When Leos gone into his dislikes of Android..I get it. Hes right.
But Roses were just mind boggling.
Things like cant do anything ? Lack of Apps ? complaining about mult-tasking , task manager , battery drain , interface etc.
Than him bashing Flash ((which thankfully adam shutdown with his "it works fine on PC")) was just kinda clueless to me.
Your thoughts ?
http://www.reddit.com
ya it angered me..like the scrolling the cursor through the text part where he kept tapping the phone like an idiot..the incredible has an optical trackpad to easily scroll through the words
holy **** he sounds like an idiot... cant figure out how to turn stuff off on android? look what apple has done to people! geez these guys are thick...
Kevin Rose is a known idiot. I thought everyone knows that.
wow i've never seen this podcast, but that was just painful to watch, i mean stupidity goes a long way with this guy, listening to his retarded rant, hopefully he returns the incredible, and gets another iphone, maybe some other user will give a good use for the incredible :]
I used to like him. God what a dumbass Apple sheep. Apple is the dumbing of America!

Wait, wait. People here are surprised that two douchnozzles on a couch in San Francisco might have spicy hot boners for Apple?
Oh, man. Stop the presses.
Watching this video excrement both confused and enraged me to the point of wanting to take the skinny one and use him as a blunt object with which to beat the fat "I'm so web 2.0 I don't even comb my hair" one to death.
This video is the epitome of everything that is wrong with the direction the internet, and our world, is headed.
Two douchballoons sitting on a couch, gasbagging about what they like and don't like about the accomplishments of others. Man I'm glad I wasted 5 minutes of my life on that. Now I can remember to never, ever visit Digg again in retribution.
Funny that he runs practically exclusively on Apple considering Macs lack a lot of things a PC will do for you.
At least he likes the camera lol
I stopped watching/listening to Kevin shortly after he went to Rev3. When Patrick Leo and Kevin ran Screensavers it was fun and informative to watch.. RIP Screensavers. But now Even Tekzilla is more about bringing in the cash and showing high end devices and not enough geek gadgets and stuff. I could hang with Patrick on DL.TV but when he left there and joined the Rev3 gang he lost it. Every so often I'll tune into Rev3 and checkout a few vids, but for the most part I really don't enjoy it anymore, especially Kevin.
that was indeed tough to watch. I wanted to scream at him throughout the conversation.
The one thing I agreed with was the way you select a spot in a paragraph and copy and paste, its definitely stupid.
It was really tough to watch someone with generally legitimate credentials (i never heard of him but i did some googling and whether we like it or not there a lot of people who dig the guy) to describe and complain about something he doesnt fully understand, for example:
He was complaining about, "I shouldnt need a task manager because there shouldnt be **** running in the background that i dont want running in the background". It sounds like a logical argument but isnt it true that those apps arent actually running, theyre just taking up some ram to get back to them quickly? Or are they really using battery? Because that too would be stupid.
Well he's an Apple fanboy what do you expect?
People defend stuff they own/like. It's as simple as that.
You go to an iPhone forum and they would be agreeing with him while here they get bashed on because it's the Nexus One forum =) It's not like anybody is wrong, it's just down to personal preferences. This stuff happens all the time, you start making a thread about which car is better, bmw or audi, and the argument goes on and on. Both are great cars, and the iphone os and android are great smartphone os.
Kevin Rose is a brain dead out of touch moron who has no business hosting a show about technology.
i want my time back from watching that crap...
get mr vagina pants a jitter bug
man they're lame with their little toys and little brains

Is Apple Better?

You tell me...

I gave credit to the Samsung Galaxy line.
Advertising your website while trying to make people interested with the title... hmmmmmmm
smart.
The brand itself made the iphone successful..
I recommend iphone too to those whoever looking to get a smartphone, especially the ones I think are not really OS/smartphone enthusiasts..
Both android and iphone are great OS'.. It's just much simpler and refined iOS is compared to android.. I think the Galaxy s2 made it right out of all the android smartphones out there..
Thanks to its great specs and incorporation into the OS..
And also... We keep on waiting for the next iteration of android to work right.. We said that about gingerbread then honeycomb.. Lol.. Is honeycomb not that good either?
ios and android are just 2 sides of the same coin.
Android gives the user a more advanced and easily customizable interface as well as open source, minus side is stability and hardware/software compatibilty.
IOS gives you the security of a rock solid stable OS with the comfort of knowing your OS is built around your hardware, thus no incompatibility or unsupported features. downside is closed OS no source info apple controlled market and complete lack of customization.
Android = Mobile Technology Enthusiast
IOS = Business savy person, or parent, people who need to be 100% certain everything works 24/7 (or trend hopping teen)
i have an ipod touch, a galaxy S, I love both
I have an Imac and a self built windows 7 gaming rig, I love both
Mind you these are my opinions and as such yours may differ.
as a person who loves the best of both worlds i use Miui with the Vexillium Project icon set, this gives an iphonish polish and feel with the customization of android that i have grown to love.
Android is more for the tech savvy people, while apple is for people that don't really know much, with the iphone though, you don't get leaks, either your phone is supported, or its old and will forsure never get updates (apple).

One area where apple has a big advantage is how easy it is to change themes or customize iphones. My buddy at work has an iphone 4 and it jail broke. Thru cydia he installed something call a dream board (or something like that). Thru that he can go from theme to them within a few seconds and there are zero issues. Also its super easy to change signal, wifi icons etc... Now us android usuers know what a pain it is to change almost anything on your phone. Finding something compatible with your rom, make a back up, flash, reboot, cross fingers , say a prayer and hope everything works like it should.

You can post it here. I enjoyed the article. It's different if your purpose was to sell something, but even if you had ads, it's not against the rules.
As for the topic:
My wife's sister is an apple iPhone convert to Android with the Galaxy S Vibrant. Observing her everyday dealing with the phone would come to the conclusion that the iPhone is just simpler. She had her iPhone before I met her, so I didn't get to see her initial learning curve into the smartphone arena. She often complained about the Galaxy's constant crashing, slowness, and terrible battery life. (She's the type of person who only charges once every three days). A custom ROM did not make things better, and shouldn't have to as she put it. She loves the Market and all of the nifty apps that she can download. She uses that often. She didn't have many apps on her iPhone.
It makes you think. I've found that a lot of features that I used apps for previously are built right in to the MIUI ROM and negates the use of an external app. I believe that a lot of features should be implemented into the OS, and should not require an external app, or custom ROM to access it. This is something that needs improvement. To me, an intuitive UI isn't only about being pretty, but being complete in the sense that I don't have to customize it in order for it to be fully functional.
iOS has superior apps, a superior user interface, a more battery-friendly design and superior media ecosystem (iTunes Store, etc.).
Even where the same apps exist, the iOS version is most often better.
Also, the build quality of the iPhone is superior to practically every Android device on the market. The only other smartphone I've owned that came close was the HD2 (boy has HTC gone down the ****ter since then?).
I simply can't deal with it because a 3.5" screen isn't enough for me. I need 4" at least on the screen. Anything less is not usable to me as a daily driver.

I think it was best said by the first comment left (by Marcelo) on your article. Marketing! They make it look so pretty, so gleaming ,so slick, so simple to use. Kids want it, teens want it, Moms and Dads want it. Marketing! Its the one luxury that its in reach of the average American. Can't have a Mercedes like that guy, can't have a mansion like that guy , but hey he has an iPhone WTF I could get that! Marketing! We are a nation of consumers who are told what we want via a TV/Internet commercial. Marketing!

That's because it is pretty, gleaming, slick, and simple to use.
It's not marketing. Go to an AT&T or Verizon store and look at it.
It's so good, that even Samsung tried their damnest to copy the Look and Feel of it, and Android even borrowed many UI elements from iOS.
Lots of people got Vibrants preciecely because it was a 3GS look-alike with Android on it (skinned to look like iOS) and they didn't want to get AT&T's service to get an iPhone.

That's true to an extent. But not every android phone can run GB. So that's not an option for everyone. Plus apple os is pretty slick right out of the box. No need for custom roms.
Bi-winning V3
In terms of build quality yes and in terms of efficiency their iOS is efficient but there phone is a nightmare for people with big hands which is why I generally see more women own iPhones and more guys own android phones
While this is all true i think google knows this an thats where ice cream sandwich comes in cant wait an gonna be open source so that mean CM8 unlike honeycomb

Would You Consider an IPhone....

To start with,I'm not even sure if it is right to have this kind of post....
but for my curiosity,I would love to know your opinion on this one.
I bet most of us have been with android system for quite a while and have used and Iphone or least try em'....
And after all the happiness and sadness you gone through an android,
Would You Consider Switching Back/Change To an IPhone?
And I for one, will never look back...
No No No No
never...
I HATE the look of ios. So boring, rows and rows of icons. Blech
No No No No No
Damn you Scooby you ruined my post, it was supposed to be an increment for Iris' post hehe
I have both. Each has their own strengths and weaknesses. I only preffer Android now since apps i used on IOS, have ported to Android.

Funny as I was checking on replies for this thread,I am also right in the middle of an article from yahoo news saying that Blackberry is dying a slow painful death(kind of,they just didn't shout it out loud to Bb's)
I've never used an iPhone long enough to actually make a comparison, i do love the smoothness of iOS but the idea of getting stuck with iTunes turns me off. I've read that ICS will have hardware acceleration, so the smoothness may be solved as soon as ICS is ported to x10 through CM9, MIUI etc.
the other thing that used to attract me was the enourmous game library, but lately nearly every game i hear about on iOS gets an Android port so, i'm ok with that.
an idiotphone? No, never, you just sent a shiver down my back thinking about it
I'd never use an iPhone, NEVER.
you have to go through a whole lot of trouble to stay up to date with an iphone, jailbrake, make sure you don't update to an unjailbreakable version, buy the new phone when it comes out 6 months later...
Bleh, my 3 years old X10 is still working perfectly fine with all the latest apps, I can't say the same about an iphone 3G.

Lol although I agree about not wanting an iPhone, this is pretty fallacious as well.
X10 does not at all work "fine with all the latest apps".
stuff that isn't compatible simply doesn't show in the market, believe me there would be about an equal amount of apps you couldn't run on the x10 and iPhone 3g..
I dont hate the apple products but lets say i just prefer the android os.
because IOS is very boring not much customisable
i mean when i flick through my homescreen on x10 i dont get bored ! On iphone there is no widget so really boring homescreens.
let alone the fact no app drawer you can barely see the wallpaper you have set lol...

Maybe not on the Market app on the phone but on the Market website, even from the phone, they do show. And up on the left hand side it says it's not compatible with your [insert phone model here].
Edit: On topic, only if it were free (to play around with, not for daily use) or if someone paid me. I only put iTunes on a PC once (a spare pc at that) and only cause someone paid me to put their cds onto their iPod.
No one can deny the smoothness of iOS(i haven't used android 4 still).
At first I loved iOS before i even knew about android. But after using an Android phone I don't think I would go back(unless they do something extraordinary changes in OS ).
Android on apple hardware is my dream lol
no offence to anyone
Nothing wrong with an iphone , excellent phones... this is my first smart phone oddly enough, never was into phones...until I got my hands on this one...wow what an experience. Never judge a book by its cover.

To think about this again, back then,I never dislike neither its products, nor the user themselves(now I can say I hate both)...I used to even think that they are a great innovator when they first released an IPhone(even though overpriced).
First,it all started whenever I talk to Apple user,it borings me because everytime we talk about technology, there is none besides what Apple brings to the table(sigh). It would even bothers me when we even discuss about media download, when I say a decent 320kbps mp3 music file is enough for me,they will deny it by saying nothing is acceptable if its not lossless. When I say that a normal BRrip avi file is already more than watchable enough, they will say nothing is like mkv.
And it really sickens me when I say 4 inch screen is nice when I watch youtube on it,they will say,TOO BIG,
when I say a new phone just came out with dual core processor, they will say it is UNNECESSARY,
when I say it is good that now we have a lot of choices for smartphone, they will say FRAGMENTATION.....
And the list goes on.
And to the point I see almost all Apple Users are all F**k Up.I start to notice whoever own one of the IDevices, there is a need for them to flash it public and brag about how cool it is when possible....
And as for Apple Inc.,when they sue Samsung for rounded edges,I think they just wanna protect their rights, but lately it doesn't seem so,it is more like they are all against all the android big boys(Samsung,Htc,Motorola). And they have already stop innovating something that is cool enough to the eyes of the most people and try clinging to the only products that is sell-able for as long as they can.And to do that, they need to take everyone else out by keep suing them.
Latest court case they won against HTC is based on auto-parsing,which whenever you get a phone number via short message, the phone will recognize it,you can dial it from the dial pad straight away....and such thing.I think my 8 years Sony Ericsson P990i can already do that(if not older),such claim is bad for all of us consumer,at least from my point of view.
And recently,Apple file up a case against Samsung again for infringement on about 10 FREAKING PHONE CASING...can you believe that?
I think Apple R&D is already dying...no new products to keep up,and yet they need to make money as much as they can.
And for today,I think Apple should just go to hell...the way I see it I'm not going to buy anything from them and not in the near future....
I wouldn't switch either. I just love playing around with android too much.
That being said, I do use my girlfriends iPhone for games when we are bored. That and for photography because android photo apps just seem sub par sadly.

I've got a 3Gs for as my work phone. I barely touch it. It's running IOS 5.0.1 and it's rendered it mostly unusable. battery life is poultry, phone is laggy & unresponsive as heck, and if i visit a website that requires login or user input to continue, I get stuck in a login screen loop. Add iTunes to this and it's really just a nightmare. We've started setting the partners up with 4S's, and while they are admittedly quite speedy/smooth, itunes still ruins the experience. As well as the boring interface.
I'm not a big fan of the hardware design either. There are much nicer looking phones about.

Haha agreed...
What's funny is how they're suing everyone in sight, yet stealing ideas more than anyone else. (drop down notification blind anyone?)
Not to mention Samsung produces the entire iPhone pretty well, yet apple has the gull to sue them?
They're a slimy company..
Look at their mark up on components as a prime example, especially for macbooks
