[Q] Unable to get GPS Fix - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

I really need help !
I'm running MDeejays' version of android on my HD2 for some time now, Running great. I cannot however get a GPS FIX on the damn thing. Tried everything. Also having the same problem running matt-c's version of android on another HD2 of mine.
Can somebody please help ?!

Try this.. Go to the Maps App.. Make sure your Gps is turned on.. Go out side and try to let the Gps find you..
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App

The same situation here. I usually get a fix by doing the following:
* Making sure it gets a fix in the WM before switching to Andorid
* And running the Google Navigation app's map component to get a fix.
Then any other program will see the GPS signal in a few seconds.

What happens when you download 'GPS test' from Chartcross from the Market?
Go outside and let it search for a couple of minutes.

Problems with picking up Sat's. Please help!!

Ive tried tomtom, nav4all and Igo and cant get any of them to pick up a satellite. They will all find my location or pretty close to though
Im using htc touch vogue, sprint with wm 6.1
I can get between 5 and 7 sat's using google maps, windows live search and sprint nav in about 10 seconds.
i have my phone set for comm4 and 4800 baud. under the "external gps icon". theres none for internal.
Igo has any auto detect and it just sits at "scanning communication ports" and automatically goes to port 9.... i set the ports myself in igo, try to find the gps and it still goes to port 9.
Anyone have any idea why i cant get any of the good gps programs to pick up a sat?
should i flash the rom again and start from scratch?
I also have iguidance as a primer..not to sure if its working. i click the icon and nothing happens.
Thanks in advance for any help!!!
I use GPS Launcher and TomTom with absolutely no problems with your exact settings. I actually didn't change anything in the config on the PPC or in the TomTom app itself. Left everything on default settings.
Without the Primer installed and running first, it never seemed to work.
Your GPS seems to be working if you are getting Live and Google to run it...Don't think you should really need to re-install the ROM update.
Did you run your free 15day of Sprint Nav. Is that working like a champ?
Thanks for the reply
Sprint nav works perferctly...I would use it but im not paying the money they want. I would rather buy a puck..
Im using the primer. i click on it but nothing happens. not to sure if anything is supposed to launch though.. Pretty much new at all this.
Cant figure it out.... Everyone else that using this phone i read has the nav working. I dont know what else to do but to try and reload wm 6.1 and start from scratch.. dont really have anything special on my phone but #'s
One quick thought...
Should I unlock my phone???
Also, I have GPS launcher and that fails to detect as well...
at the "Qucik GPS can speed up the time for determining you gps satellite position via internet connection (such as gprs, activesync, etc.." i try to download and it fails right away. . After the 6.1 upgrade i cant connect to the internet with the data cable connected and i have no idea how to use my phone as a modem.

I definitely wasn't suggesting to buy the Sprint Nav. That's just silly...
Download the QVGA-Black Repack3, and the GPS Launcher.
This is currently configured to Prime the GPS and Launch TomTom; both of which are located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2439623&postcount=34
and here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1862619&postcount=1
You shouldn't have any problems with these two.

OK....unlocked the phone. updated rom with OJ's custom..
Tried to install tomtom now my maps are screwed. its not asking me for the code to unlock. Anyone know where i can get maps for Mass to try?
Installed igo, of course it failed to pick up the sat.. but it will pick up my location and will give me a simulation of the route i have to take....sat is still crossed out!
No issues with live or google maps picking up my location
I dont f'n get it...Do i have the same phone eveyone else is using with these programs? Are people using a gps receiver ie;puck for this to work?
it says my phone is vogu100 under identity..

Are you running a stock ROM ? If not, did your GPS work on the stock ROM ?
If your GPS has never worked then it may well be a hardware problem. But if it used to work and stopped with a cooked ROM, then there was a version of WM where GPS support was broken.
Google maps also needs internet connection, you have one? Also try with a navigation software like TomTom or Igo, in Igo you have to let the software discover the port used.
i have seen one or twice the gps icon.
futher al apps keep searching for it.
i,m on a stock rom 1.88.404.3 (67102) NLD
i will have a go with Igo.
thx sofar
You could also try:
Chartcross GPStest.
Go sit next to a road so that it is easier to get a signal...
And it might take a few minutes until it got a fix.
And if you have a data connection (like T-Mobile web 'n walk), enable A-GPS in your settings. Good luck
If it helps you, the GPS port is 4 and the speed is 38400, in Igo you cann set it yourself or let the software find it
thx for the advice guys,
but i fried my rom yesterday, i believe that was the problem all along.
so i,m gona seek for a new rom, don,t now cooked or vanila.
i will post here if the gps wil function then.
laterzzz
If you are searching for a new rom try the Phoenix 2 rom from NRGZ.
It is also available in Christmas theme
And it comes with many gps settings and apps.
k k,
i wil have a go with it, downing it now.
i wil report back on howe it went.

AGPS

I know this topic has been discussed previously, but I haven't been able to find the answer yet so here goes:
As I understand it, GPS is working in all/most sense and cm based builds however AGPS seems to be an issue all have in common. From what I understand AGPS is just a helper function for quicker GPS locking so even though AGPS isnt working, you should still be able to get a lock.
Now, since before we got nand based ROMs for HD2 I used haret to load android from my SD card. Back then I used GPS depended applications like c:geo for geocaching and car navigation progs, as well as progs for finding nearest resturant when I visit other cities/countries.
Been a while since I had the need for it, but recently with the nice weather geocaching for example have become an interest. What I see now is that none of the ginger/cm/non-sense builds I have tried have given me a GPS lock. I have tried the GPS fixes, flashed Norway.zip for tweaking my gps.conf, installed gps-status but no chance in getting a lock. and yes, I have been giving it quite some time, outdoors.
Anyone else having these problems? I see from screenshots on for example the HyperDroidCM7 ROM that you can get a lock, so its not a problem for everybody. Is my assumption on what AGPS is, correct? Any worarounds to get GPS functionality working? Strange to have these problems now, since it worked kinda well before
EDIT: tried now with [10.MAR.11][CWM] RAFDROID HD 4.0.2|Fastest Full DesHD|DATA2EXT|[Rafpigna 1.8 OC], still no lock
There's no driver support for AGPS, so the best we can do for now is to tweak our gps.conf and use gps status. If you can't get a lock at all, it could be a HW problem. If geocaching is a necessity for you, you could go back to WM and sd Android, use WM to grab AGPS data, then boot into Android.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
I use that rom, but the 4.0 (really not much of a difference for me between the 4.0 and 4.0.2), and I always have a lock quickly.
1) Did you try installing the GPSFix.0.1 apk file and running it? that downloads a criticial file xtra.bin into your data folder.
Also try the 1.2 files and see if you have any luck, because I know in the 4.0 of Rafdroid, the gps works very well.
Same as Angeldeath, I use Rafdroid and it works ok.
Mine was faulty a couple of weeks ago and HTC warranty had to swap the board (and also did the screen, keys etc). In the end it would still lock but after a while it would freez or have no reception anymore.
But to be honest I don't like the GPS receiver at all in the HD2. There are numerous tests and other people to back me up on the tremendous jitter the receiver has which makes you jump all over the place.
A nice test is to place it in the car and switch on the cruiscontrol at 100km/h, or even worse at 180km/h. The thing will jump atleast 10% in speed.
When I need to drive or walk long trips I use my iBlue 747A+ 66 Ch Bluetooth GPS Logger which you can buy cheap on ebay.
That thing logs, is fast, deadly accurate and with the free 'bluetooth gps' on the market you can even use it on the HD2

The AGPS thing on WM and then booting into Android is a myth, there's an extenvise work being done to make AGPS work on Android for our HD2s, but they have not managed to get it working yet.
Android on our HD2 simply doesnt have any commands to load AGPS, and the chip itself doesnt save any data. In the remote case it saved anything, there's nothing on the GPS Driver itself to read it
Quick tip to get your GPS to work:
Load Google Maps, let it try to get a lock, if after 1 or 2 mins it doesnt get any lock force close the app, turn off then back on the GPS and reload Google Maps. If you still cant get a lock, let it sit for at least 5 mins, then Force Close it again.
after that it should get you a lock in less than 10 secs.
Easiest way to FC it is enabling the "hold back to FC app" option on CM builds.

Pernamently GPS fix

Hi, please can you help me how to pernamently fix GPS? Thank for your answers
I imagine you're running 2.1? it didnt work for me either unless I restarted the phone each time I wanted to use it.
Now I run 2.2 it works all the time really quickly
Have you tried Kies to see if there is a software update?
You could try Fasterfix available free from Android Market.
Haven't tried it on 2.1 but it works great on 2.2.....
Worth a try
I have android 2.2 - Kyrillos´ rom.
by permanent gps fix you mean you cannot get a gps fix at all or you want a gps to lock all position all the time even when you are not using apps like google maps and all?

[Q] How get GPS work?

Hi all,
I run on OS: Android v 2.2.1
I try to get my GPS work but I dont know how...
I installed GPS fix but its keep searching for satellites without results. (have program for 2 hours searching...)
I dont want to take the risk with new Android version (2.2.3 of Huawei website)
Do anyone know a way to fix this?
My provider is: Telfort (Dutch provider)
Thanks in advance
Can someone give me some advice?
Is it possible to see if my hardware works correct?
Hello,
First thing you need to check is that you are not inside a building and not too close to big metal structures.
GPS only works outside, in the street.
Download the GPS Tester from the market and it will show you the satellites available.
Open Google maps or navigation and see if it finds your position.
It should be quick in less than 1 minute.
