I'm looking for a working videocall solution for my samsung TAB. I'm using Fring and also I tried Tango with the same wrong results. I downloaded tha last version of both sw from the martket; For my test I used my Samsung Galaxy S calling a Tab and viceversa. Results:
On My TAB I can see a TAB "internal" camera and also a GALAXY S camera, but on Galaxy S just an internal GALAXY camera (no video from TAB).
Anybody can try the same "experiment"? Anybody have an idea why thats happend? Some suggestion about a wrong setting in both devices?
I think it's coming from the app.
Maybe you should try to contact the devs.
I used tango with the Tab and a SGS.
I could see the video from the tab on the SGS only it came from the rear camera.

Front facing camera or not?
I found few sources where they say there is front facing camera on Samsung Galaxy S i9000 for video chat.
Can some one confirm this?
Yes there is one and there are even hands-on videos showing it being used (I forgot where )
eh I watch all videos of Samsung Galaxy S and didn't find such video.
It comes with front facing camera and have a button in the call screen to do video call but personally, i dont use that feature since non of my friends / family use that so i cant tell you if it works properly.
But you can try to use front face video camera with fring (over skype service). To video conf with someone who have skype.
I don't want to use that for 3g video call that is very bad but over internet with fring can be nice.

would be great to see it in action, or with Qik.

the new version supports front cams, it might be model specific do you have a link which says otherwise?
just installed and its probably the worst software i've tried so i uninstall.
1) cannot load any contacts from skype
2) load itself even i specifically uncheck to load at startup
3) after i exit, it still stays in memory
i looked at the comments on market and they are mostly negative

I tried the Video Call Test on fring and it works.. I don't know if it'll work on an actual Fring to Fring video call..
Fring still have problems with my Galaxy S, it mutes my phone whenever I make a call.. & it does not transmit my voice..
has anyone made a successful Fring Call???

I think some other phones like Evo and Dell streak FF Cameras are supported, just not the Galaxy S yet.

You got it to make a Video call using the front camera ? Surprised as Fring say they are still working on it and I can't do one with my phone.

Forgiven
lol back camera??? is that even possible? I mean back camera would be much better quality for video streaming.
It uses the back camera at present, which would be good for streaming as you suggested. Ideally a mechanism to switch between both would be ideal !
Yes!! That would be great
I have another question. If you install fring and you are online.
1.) Do you have option to check 'start this application when Galaxy S start' ?
2.) Can this application be in background so if you got call over skype phone will ring? I mean can this phone will be used primary like SKYPE phone?
how does the inbuilt video calling work, ie the one in the contacts menu. What types of phones can it call?? is it some open protocol?
Fring improves audio, adds support for Samsung Galaxy S

Just upgraded and did my test call with the forward facing camera baby! All good.
Now I'm sure the next thing people will be asking for is being able to switch between the two.
i installed Elixir on my galaxy 3 and noticed that it shows that camera can record [email protected] videos, but i can't find that resolution anywhere in camcorder settings... max is [email protected]
is this elixir bug or something else? i have froyo on my galaxy...
thnx in advance...
Most likely a bug, as the phone specs clearly state [email protected]
i tried do its same
seems a bug
Finally it comes. Can't wait to try.
So I'm too new to share the news URL.
I know this news too. But from what i read and what I understand bout the news, the skype video calling only support galaxy tab 10.1 T-mobile version, not other version than that, either galaxy tab 10.1 or 10.1v. I had my 10.1v updated, but still cant make video call. Sad case. Anyone else have any ideas about this?
You gotta enable video chat in settings

I am having wifi version of 10.1 tab and able video chat.
Just update your Skype to latest version.
Also remember to enable video chat from settings.

I loaded it on my stock Tab 10.1 wifi only. Here are my results...
- I can communicate to my desktop but I get a message stating that the connection is too slow for video.
- I can NOT even connect to my HTC Thunderbolt (Android 2.2) phone. I can chat with the phone but video connection doesn't even ring on the phone and vice versa.
- The HTC Thunderbolt communicates beautifully with my desktop. No slowdown and a nice picture.
Seems that the Honeycomb version of Skype still needs to be in the oven until it's done baking.
it works great on my galaxy 10.1
Very low audio volume
Video works great on 10.1V but the audio volume is very low to the point I have to hold it up to my ear to hear.
Hi,
yes it works great on GTab 10.1!
I love it ;-)
Is it only me, but the new version of skype does not load automatically upon resart in both SGS2 and SGT 10.1.

Hmm, I get automatic restart on my SGS2 and SGT 10.1.
What I get though is atrocious battery consumption! I [email protected] and it seems I am not the only one. I get about 40-45% less battery time by just having skype idling on the background.
hi,
just courise how mucn memory skype used,
AFAIK, skype is kinda background service that we cannot exit completely
works great on gt7510.

It's running 16MB in the background on my tab.
You will need to sign out of skype before you can completely exit out of it, or just end it on task manager.

How do you sign out of Skype ?
I have tried how but I can only find a way to change my status to offline which is not exactly the same
The only way I found to quit the app is through the task manager

Hi
I have the samsung galaxy note 10.1. When I try to use video chat the camera does not work I can see the other person but they cant see me. Please help
Does your provider allow videocalls?
I don't know if it belongs here but the 'problem' concists on an Samsung Galaxy S4 i9505.
My wife and I both have a Galaxy S4 i9505. Since recently i discovered that with the update on whatsapp that I can activate the camera on the bottom of the screen next tot the little microphone. Instead of going to the upper right corner and choose the camera app. My wife an I both use Whatsapp2date and have the latest update for the i9505 installed.
However I have the camera function but she hasn't. She had it but it disappeared. And I can't seem to find the option to activate that. Or even find it. Is it just me or what? I would like to add a screenshot but not (yet) possible. srry

Update on whatsapp camera
Today at 17:00 made picture while using WatsApp camera on keyboard. after 3 hours the camera was gone. Done nothing strange or installed anything.
Another update,
I probably found a what seems to be an explanation. In version 2.11.148 the camera app exists. In version 2.11.150 it disappeared. Just need to find out if it excists in version 2.11.148. The only curious thing is that although I reversed whatsapp in my wife's phone, the camera app doesn't show up in her phone...

So lame
So lame the non existant reply from support from whatsapp
