[Q] Herald goes standby on Tomtom - Wing, P4350 General

Hi
I've the following problem while using TomTom 7.915 on wm 6.5 (justHomeV19 ROM):
After about 3 minutes 15 seconds device switches to standby or blanks the screen (I don't know which one). Of course I've 'unticked' "Turn of after..." features in Power Settings, but it has no effect on TomTom at all.
I'm using S2U as well, but I've tried different settings without success.
I haven't got such problems on wm 6.1, but then I had to 'untick' everything in Power Settings as it has influence on TomTom.
I'll be gratefull for any advice or maybe solution.
Cheers!

I had the same problem using the same ROM. It first worked like a charm, but than suddenly this started to happen.
Finally I upgrade tot the latest Dutch TMO Rom (2.21.2.5.NLD) and now everythinh is ok again.
Sorry I can't be of more help
I've got exactly the same problem on my XDA mini-s only I'm using the BT Rom from their website, I'm begining to wonder if an Application we're running is causing the problem such as: -
Phone alarm
Pocket Music
Tom Tom
Resco file Explorer
Pocket TV
GPS Dash
SPB Backup
Any similarities?
For me it seems SPB Backup causes this problem. After reinstalling a backup this 10 seconds thing appears all the time.
Same issue...
I had the same issue, posted a thread....

There are a few comments, including one that alluded to a hardware issue, but I did not get it resolved. Any other comments are welcomed.
just to get this topic up again.
I also have the same problem ans also after an automated backup (weekly) using SPB backup.
I restored an older file from SPB backup and I do not have the problem any more. It seems that this happened when the scheduled backup was used.
I think this is no longer an SPB Backup problem as there are others here and on the other post that are not using SPB backup and are still getting the same problem.
My ROM Version is 2.21.4.1 WWE
ROM Date 9th March 06
Radio Version 02.07.10
Protocol Version 413.1.03
EXT ROM Version 2.21.4.101
There must be somebody out there who understands what happens when you select "device locked" that is causing this to happen!
The device lock feature causes this bug.
If you don't want it to do that any more you have to do 2 things.
1) Turn off device lock
2) Change the registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Backlight\Locklevel\
Change the "LockLevel" value to "0".
Then your phone will remember your backlight settings again. 8)
I had the same problem. But i did an upgrade to the dutch rom.
I did not have the device lock on so I don't know if that may be the problem.
There are a lot of this tiny little problems on my phone. but I always try new stuf on it, so I hard reset and reinstal very often. (Not restore from backup)
Gldrush98, you are an absolute STAR! I followed your instructions and now the backlight stays on for 1 minute as per the unlocked settings and 10 secs when it is set to locked.....Perfect many thanks.
No problem man, glad it worked. I had that problem too and I know how absolutely madning that bug can be! I don't know why they didn't fix this bug in the 2.2 roms.

Problem with Backlight timers

Hi guys,
I setup when my JASJAM running on battery, to turn off backlight when the device is not used for 1 minutes.
When the device turn off backlight after 1 minutes, and i turn on it, and check the settings i see that there is a new value set - 10 sec.
Can someone help me, which registry value i need to change.
BR
This problem is purly with the rom you are using. I tried changing this when i installed the beta version of AKU 3.5 Rom and it wouldnt work, even after setting it in the registry! Everytime the device turns off it just resets to 10 secs....very annoying!
2 options.... Flash it, or live with it.
It has been reported that add on programs cause a conflict with the operating system. This results in the backlight defaulting to ten seconds. (With WM5, default is set at thirty seconds.) To remedy situation you can remove, one by one, any programs that you have loaded onto your PPC to find the offender.
I resolved this problem with a hard reset and it hasn't recurred so far.

Stopping phone 'lock' when running GPS

IS there a way of stoppinng the phone lock whilst my gps is running.
I have found the settings within the GPS software to stop the phone backlight dimming but as my phone is sync'd with exchange i have to have a pin lock on the phone but the maximum it seems i can set for this is 10 mins
thanks in advance
which lock are you using ?
I've read that s2u2 can have an exceptions list for things like tomtom
I have a similar issue when running GPS with Copilot 8. Running WM6.5 Miri 7.1 (Standard 6.5 Lockscreen)
I have my phone set to lock after 5 mins. Ussually when GPS is running it doesn't lock. Now I can't stop it locking without turning the lock off completely.
Any suggestions would be great.

using the standard lock build into 6.5
I tried putting s2U2 on the phone but couldnt work out how to make it 'replace' the standard windows lock

Need something that keeps backlight on!!

As I posted before, my TD2 goes black when using TomTom on battery.
Normally, my backlight dims after 30secs, and the screen goes off after 1 minute of inactivity.
With TomTom running, no backlight dimming, but screen blanks after 2 minutes. On battery power (in my car) no probs at all. I have the latest rom. I reinstalled TomTom several times. No solution. Tried all the settings in Settings-More-Power-Advanced. No solution. Edited the registry, no solution.
However, I have a prog called RunGPS. There is a small button: keep backlight on function. If I press that button, the screen stays on. If I switch to TomTom, it also stays on. Downside is, RunGPS keeps a dataconnection active.
So, it has to be possible to make some application that does only one thing: keep backlight on, or leave it to the TD2. Is this possible to create..??
Try ScreenOn:

ageye g-light
Too bad.. both don't work. Screen-On doesn't come up with something; I just click it and that's it, no prog or text saying something is active. And after a few seconds.. screen-off.
G-light does have TomTom as exception with option "keep backlight always on" and after two minutes... Yep. Screen-Off...
I use S2U2 on my Diamond 2 and you can insert an exception to stop the device going into suspend/sleep mode when using TomTom on battery.

Can you be a bit more specific? I installed S2U2, and found the registry settings; just added TomTom Navigator.exe there. But after 2 minutes.. my screen is blank...

i'm sorry, you're right.
after 2 minutes the screen goes of..
I tried Lumos with my garmin mobile XT and that seems to work. it also has exceptions. Just insert the name of the program as mentioned in the task manager.
Added TT in the exceptions.
After 30secs screen goes off...

installed tomtom 7 and tried adding it to lumos and it worked fine for me..
i added 'TomTom Navigator' as an exception
I have this problem too - except that mine goes off after 10 minutes. I am wondering if it has anything to do with some programs I have experimented with lately, notably ones to make the battery level appear as a percentage number rather than a small number of bars, and another to add more colourful icons. Have you added anything similar? Unfortunately, the battery level application has no uninstall (it does not show up in "Remove Programs").
Any ideas?

Yes, I did install several things but also did several hard-resets. Nothing helped. I even found settings in the registry regarding backlight power but also no effect.
I mailed the problem to HTC and received an answer today; I have to contact the callcenter for a repair.... so I guess there's something buggy in the Topaz...
**EDIT** Just made a phone call with HTC. Very polite; they come and pick up the phone and will return it somewhere between 5-10 days. Hopefully they find something that will do the trick..
Problem solved: TD2 came back after a day or 5 from HTC repair. Backlight stays on when unchecked, and stays on while apps are running that needs that (like tomtom).
No idea what they have done, but it works..

ROM 1.66: CoPilot doesn't keep device awake anymore

I upgraded to ROM 1.66 NL a while ago and just now, I noticed that my HD2 isn't forced to stay on while using CoPilot anymore. After a minute or so, the screen dims, and then the device goes to sleep just like it would when not using gps navigation.
This is stupid, of course, and renders CoPilot quite useless. Imagine having to switch your device back on, slide past the lock screen, open CoPilot again (because for some reason it disappears to the background) and wait for the gps to reconnect, all this every couple of minutes, while driving!!!
Before the ROM upgrade, it worked fine.
Does anyone know of a way to fix this? Can't I add CoPilot to a "don't go to sleep" whitelist in the registry or something?
I've had the same problem on NL ROM 1.44, also you can change the setting in CoPilot that CoPilot chooses when to go in standby, and not the phone.
It didn't help for me.
I am now running NL ROM 1.66 and I didn't tested it yet.
Right, found it! It's under "Displaylicht"... of course. I had a look through the settings but somehow missed that.
I didn't really expect it to be in the settings anyway, because for me, it used to work fine out of the box before I upgraded.
Thanks, will try this.
Edit: Seems to be working. Thanks again / nogmaals bedankt!
