Installing Customizable Google Car Home? - Droid X General

Does anyone have instructions on installing the Google Car Home app that allows for customization of the blank slots? I'm running ApeX ROM, but I get the same install failed message on the stock DX. I have the APK for the app and the launcher, just can't figure out how to get them to install properly.

Delete the .apk in /system/app/ (or rename to .bak)
There are 2 of them there, you can leave the one named 'CarHomeLauncher' which will let you launch it without the car dock

Getting some Blur back?

As shocking as it may seem I want some blur on my phone! Im currently running gummy 2.5 but after using blur for a couple of months i miss the messaging, email, alarm, camera, sticky note widget and most importantly the icons! is there anyway for me to get any of this back? I tried installing the apks but to no avail. I think I could do with just the icons. Any advice? Thanks!
They won't install like normal apks to the best of my knowledge. You seem to have all of the APKs though from blur so try one of these methods, not 100% sure it will work but it likely should. (Edit: I'm not entirely sure what you are talking about with the icons, but this should help you get the APKs you want back)
REMEMBER TO BACKUP EVERYTHING BEFORE DOING EITHER OF THESE!
1) Download the empty InstallAPKs.zip from this post.
2) Open the archive in 7z or winrar
3) Navigate to system/app and put all the APKs you wan't to install into the zip (just drag them into the archive and let it add/update them. I'd have stuck them in the zip for you but I don't have any blur apks with me)
4) Reboot recovery and install the zip
or
1) You could manually go into the system folder and replace the apks using root explorer. Remember to set permissions to 644 for each file you replace if doing this.

[ASK]Replacing stock live wallpapers,,

hi there
i hove one noob question here
Is there any way to replacing / installing live wallpaers ?
I'm trying just installing .apk, but it failed
I'm trying manual replacing live wall in my system via Root eksploler, failed again,,,
so i'm courious about this case, is there any other ways ?
if the other way is via Recovery, how can i make xxx.zip from my xxx.apk ?
thx & sory for my noob Q
You sound confused to me...
There is an apk in system/app folder called live wallpaper picker. this does what it says on the tin. When you're on your homescreen and press menu there is an option to choose live wallpaper. This opens the aforementioned apk. If you have installed other live wallpapers they will show here and you can select them.
Hope that clears things up!
Swyped from my HTC Desire oxygen 2.0.3. using XDA App
Theres an apk within my theme called livewallpaper.apk
And that replaces the nexus one with cyanogen livewallpaper
With much more options. If you delete all the other apks from
One of my zips and the framework folder you can flash it in recovery.
You can just add your livewallpaper to the zip also in system/app.

[Q] Go Launcher EX dock background disappears after reboot?

All I'm trying to do is use a custom dock background with Go Launcher EX. I'm rooted and have both the android market and gapps installed. I installed Go Launcher EX via the market.
Whenever I set a custom dock background via the Go Launcher preferences, it only stays put until I reboot. After a reboot, the background disappears and there's no background at all. The background I'm using is a PNG which i have located in /sdcard/theme/docks, permissions on the file according to Root Explorer are ---rwxr-x.
What gives here? Why do I have to reset it after every reboot?
EDIT: It's interesting to note that if I use the "GO Theme background" under Preferences->Visual settings->Backgrounds for my dock background, the theme image is persistent after any number of reboots.
it's only a shot in the dark but i think at reboot the system is starting go launcher. according to this the rights have to be rwxrwxr-x
or the sdcard is'nt mounted when it loads - then copy somewhere to system might help
never done this - just some ideas ...
I'm unable to modify permissions of files in /sdcard. Also, I have custom dock icons that are located in /sdcard/theme/icons and they always stick around after a fresh reboot, so I'm not sure about the need to move my dock background PNG to /system. I currently only have apk's in /system.
the icons have the same permissions ?
maybe a bug in go launcher you just discovered !
Yes, the icons have the same permissions.
Could it possibly be that I'm cropping the image? Anyone know the exact dimensions I would need to use to avoid cropping?
just looked at my kf - can't find the original images - does anyone know the location ?

Google Play Apps

Hey guys. So I managed to root my Kindle Fire version 7.2.3. I Installed the Android Market and upgraded to Google Play Store. I started downloading apps, like Firefox and Opera, games, etc. Now, when I go to the apps menu on my Kindle, I only see the apps downloaded from the Amazon appstore... Opera, Firefox and the other games are nowhere to be seen... If I drag down the settings, I can see in my notifications that the apps were installed, and I can launch them from there, but that's it.. I can also launch them from ES FIle Explorer, but that's annoying... How can I make it so that all the content downloaded from the gplay store appears in the app section of my kindle?
Install a different launcher like Apex, Go Launcher, Nova etc. It will then look and feel like a normal android device, and you will see all your apps.

Thanks for replying. Sorry but I'm a noob with this... I downloaded Go Launcher from the gplay store and I can't see it or launch it because of the problem I mentioned above... If I get to launch it what do I do with it?
No problem dude. Download the .apk file (google it) for Go Launcher and put in the system/app folder. If it's a .zip, rename it to .apk then reboot your Kindle and it will load upon reboot. Try it out and see what happens. Good luck.

I download the apk and put it in the system/apps folder yet I can't see it in my kindle... I don't even know what I have to do with go launcher ex.. can you be more specific? thanks
Couple things to try here. If Go Launcher is installed, you should press the home button and a dialog box should pop up asking you which launcher you want to use. Select Go Launcher. If that doesn't work, download an app from the market called Home Switcher that allows you to select which launcher you want to use. If you don't see Go Launcher in there, then it's not installed. Keep trying, you will get it.

Take the attached files, download them to your desktop.
1) Plug your Kindle into USB
2) Using Windows Explorer, move GO_Launcher_HD.apk and GO_Launcher_EX_3_19_1.apk to /Kindle/Download
2) Now go to your Kindle. Open ES File Explorer go to Settings. In Settings > Other Settings is Root Settings. Select Root Settings, check all options.
3) Be sure to "Allow" Root
4) Now using ES File Explorer move /sdcard/GO_Launcher_HD.apk to /system/app/GO_Launcher_HD.apk and move /sdcard/GO_Launcher_EX_3_19_1.apk to /system/app/GO_Launcher_EX_3_19_1.apk - Install both apk's
5) Change the permissions (by long pressing each apk) on GO_Launcher_EX_3_19_1.apk and GO_Launcher_EX_3_19_1.apk to User: Read Write Group: Read Others: Read
6) Reboot the Kindle. When it reboots you should see "Kindle is upgrading", then you will be given the option to select a Launcher: Home (Stock Kindle Launcher), Go Launcher EX, or Go Launcher HD
Try them both, see which one you like, then when you are ready, click on the "Home" button to make one of them your new "Default" launcher.

No problem, go into the Apps container where all the apps are stored, scroll through then until you see "Home". Click on "Home" (Not the picture of the house) and wala, you are back to the old Kindle menu allowing you to access all your old /new goodies.
When you are done, click on the picture of the house and you can get back to Go Launcher.
If you install Google Music this app automatically will sync with the Amazon Music. Maybe the next Play Movies will sync with Amazon Movies, only time will tell.

New FireTV-Settings Root works on Tank and Mantis without Amazon Launcher

Install apk to access the settings without amazon Launcher.
Language eng and ger.
Root is needed.
Adds Shortcut for Menu and all Settings to Launcher.
Unneeded Shortcuts must be Hide in Launcher.
Install other Launcher.
For mantis maybe you need FTVLaunchX to start the alternate Launcher.
Disable Amazon Launcher
#adb shell pm disable com.amazon.tv.launcher
The Zip File is the SourceCode for Android Studio.
Hey i know its a long time ago now. But are there any updates?
The old apk still works for me but it has not all icons in it.
This version installs all settings icons but i cant open them. They just close directly after i open them. Are there any known fix for that? I have a fire tv stick 4k with root.
Thanks
