All I'm trying to do is use a custom dock background with Go Launcher EX. I'm rooted and have both the android market and gapps installed. I installed Go Launcher EX via the market.
Whenever I set a custom dock background via the Go Launcher preferences, it only stays put until I reboot. After a reboot, the background disappears and there's no background at all. The background I'm using is a PNG which i have located in /sdcard/theme/docks, permissions on the file according to Root Explorer are ---rwxr-x.
What gives here? Why do I have to reset it after every reboot?
EDIT: It's interesting to note that if I use the "GO Theme background" under Preferences->Visual settings->Backgrounds for my dock background, the theme image is persistent after any number of reboots.
it's only a shot in the dark but i think at reboot the system is starting go launcher. according to this the rights have to be rwxrwxr-x
or the sdcard is'nt mounted when it loads - then copy somewhere to system might help
never done this - just some ideas ...
I'm unable to modify permissions of files in /sdcard. Also, I have custom dock icons that are located in /sdcard/theme/icons and they always stick around after a fresh reboot, so I'm not sure about the need to move my dock background PNG to /system. I currently only have apk's in /system.
the icons have the same permissions ?
maybe a bug in go launcher you just discovered !
Yes, the icons have the same permissions.
Could it possibly be that I'm cropping the image? Anyone know the exact dimensions I would need to use to avoid cropping?
just looked at my kf - can't find the original images - does anyone know the location ?

using cyanogenmod 6 on my wildfire ive installed the laucher pro and im using it as default launcher but every time i reboot the phone the adw launcher start up, ive tried with root explorer to kill and delete it, but when i reboot the adwlauncher regenerate in the system app folder and restart
in addiction to this the live wallpaper ive set up at any reboot keep being restore with the last image wallpaper that was set up, is this normal? cant be kept a live wallpaper?
I had the same problem when I moved launcher pro to SDCard, putting it to internal (phone) memory resolved the problem.
If that doesn't help then you have to flash an update.zip script to remove ADWLaucnher from your /system/app directory.
here is a topic that explains how to make your own update.zip to move or add files to your /system/app directory. It's easy.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=917922
and if you have set up adb shell on your pc then delete that file with it, after you put your phone into a recovery mode.
I've recently installed the Nexus S live wallpaper in my SG3 but unfortunately it didn't work. Then I've un-installed the live wallpaper but whenever I'm going to set the live wallpaper (from Home --> wallpaper --> live wallpaper), I can still see the live Nexus S live wallpaper there (which I've already un-installed). Even if I select it, the application closes forcefully.
My phone is on the stock 2.2 but rooted. I've even used the titanium back and roo explorer to find the apk file corresponding to the that live wallpaper.
Can anyone please help me to find out the path of the live wallpaper apk file path (in phone memory or sd card) so I can manually delete the file.
Thanks in advance.
/system/app/livewallpapers.apk delete this one. use root expl
I reinstall the app and then uninstall it - by this way, the problem is solved now.
Many thanks for your help.
Seeing many questions and posted threads asking about the best way to set the wallpapers with the proper size and quality without blur or cropping for stock Kindle Fire, i ve decided to post this maybe it could help
Prerequisites :
1- Root Access
2- File manager to view root directory
3- MultiPicture Live Wallpaper (its free) get it from https://market.android.com/details?id=org.tamanegi.wallpaper.multipicture check attached file
Steps [done once] :
1- browse to "/data/data/com.android.settings/files"
2- change "wallpaper" permissions to be writable
(in ES file explorer: if the directory is empty make sure you checked "root explorer" and "mount file system" in the settings)
3- Set the the live wallpaper -> "MultiPicture Live Wallpaper"
4- remove the write permissions back for "wallpaper"
Changing wallpaper :
hold tap on background and select wallpaper > Configure wallpaper > Common settings > picture source
and you no longer need to change permissions every time just to change wallpaper
Preferred Wallpaper Size :
Same as with ipad/ipad2 wallpapers are the best : 1024x1024 for portrait and landscape or anything actually will work well
You can also set the live wallpaper memory footprint usage, color depth check it out
I ve also attached a pack of 1024x1024 ones to get you started
check it at http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1229065/kindle%20walls%201.rar
Thats all
Haven't tried the app yet but thx there are a couple of nice pics in your wallpaper archive.
Works great!
Followed these directions for my rooted Kindle and finally defeated Amazon's default lockscreen rotation
Tried using my own high-res pictures and photos.
Thanks!!
I use photile live wallpaper its got some cool animations and touch reaction on the picture and it doesn't lose quality
Sent from my CM7 Kindle Fire
Thx man works great.
Since I had already write protected the wallpaper file, I found that I didn't need to change anything other than load the wall paper app, select a folder with images and activate it.
Works great.
thanks guys i am glad you liked it
its kinda funny that we have to hack it to get to use wallpapers , maybe it'll be a native feature in upcoming official updates, like iOS 4.0 wallpapers lol
The wallpaper pack provided doesn't seem to work for me. I individually extracted wallpapers from the zip file, and sent the Multi picture Live Wallpaper to read the image files I extracted located at sdcard/Pictures/Wallpapers. I'd love for this to work as many of the wallpaper provided are highly attractive!

under "Multi picture Live" settings select > common settings > picture source > Picture folder (the one that contains the extracted images)
my folder path : "/mnt/sdcard/Pictures/Wallpapers"
or select a single picture
also check wallpaper change interval, its working perfectly for me on stock 6.2.1

It works with other wallpaper files. Thanks!
I am now using Wallbase instead of your method. I noticed that there is no option on Multi-Picture for scrolling wallpapers and that bothered me enough.
Try to use Kindle Fire - Wallpaper Change in android market.
It's an easy way to change the wallpaper and also work greet for my kindle fire.
I'm a new member so I can't post the link.
Sory for my bad English.

I instinctively don't trust this app. It's brand new and unfamiliar, and there's no reason it should require full internet and network access as it does. Multipicture live wallpaper does not require any special system permissions.
Using stock Kindle Fire...how do you get the option to change wallpaper in order to use this Multipicture Live Wallpaper app? I don't quite understand how a stock Fire has any menus to change the wallpaper. I tried opening the app by itself and it Force Closes every time. Maybe I am over thinking this or something... please help!

please read the "Prerequisites" in the first post , you need to have your device rooted first ( head over to [INDEX] Kindle Fire Development *FULL LIST* ) and also you need to have a custom launcher installed
Keep getting a force close when trying to install Multipicture Live from the OP.
Rooted via Kindle Fire Utility running the ES File Manager and Go Launcher EX.

I add original apk from android 2.1 to my nook, but i doesn't work. I now can't enter to setting page, wifi atc... Please if some one would be angel, and send me the true original settings.apk from Nook touch. Thanks.
Go to the B&N webpage for the 1.1.2 update: http://www.barnesandnoble.com/u/Software-Updates-NOOK-Simple-Touch/379003175/
Download nook_1_1_2_update.zip.
It is a signed ZIP file, you can open it with 7zip, http://www.7-zip.org/download.html
(Windows can't open this directly without stripping the signature.)
Get whatever you like out of /system/app
If you aren't up to 1.1.2 yet, just do the manual update and it will fix things.
(Except that you may have to re-root.)
Thank. I try this before, but this signed zip archive get me
Install 7zip, thak to CrossOver (MAC). Extracted settings.apk. And everything work perfect. Thank you Renate!
Thread moved to general, based on the fact it's not a : mod/kernel/rom.
I write it works, but only procedure to get apk from update to phone. Settings app dont work, I can't see a icon in menu (but don't know there must to be), anyway i run setting from B&N bottom bar, nothing run. I can't event add widgets because context menu don't show. Please has some one any idea?
If you are running 1.1.2 and you put the Settings.apk out of nook_1_1_2_update.zip in, then it's the right one.
Settings.apk 971,804 bytes
Did you put it in the right place? Does it have the right permissions?
Did you kill SettingsProvider.apk too?
What does logcat say when it bombs? Give us a hint.
Yes, I have same size Settings.apk. I put it to /system/app/, permission set to rw-r--r-- .
I touch only setting.apk -SettingsProvider.apk is the same.
When I click on top bar (wifi/battery icon) restart nook, when I click on bottom B&N bar nothing shows.
Sorry i dont have terminal, and wifi home, at this time. I don't know what try...
When you click on the top bar you start: com.android.settings/.Settings_Quick
Have you tried Settings in the app drawer?
When you click on the settings icon in the app drawer you start: com.android.settings/.Settings_Root
Does everything else work?
Top bar -Quick setting (restart) -not work
Bott.bar -B&N settings button (nothing) - not work
Add widgets (nothing)-not work
NookColor Tools -All settings (No applications can perform this action)-not work
App drawer (No settings icon) - not work
Activity picker (no settings option) - not work
I try this posible accesses with and without setting.apk in /SYSTEM/APP but same result. -there is no diference if I have app or if not. I try install app "clasical" way, but I got -this app replace another existing app, after I move next app failed to install.
Why I get message (this app replace another existing app) if I don't have in my system nothing touches settings.apk?

Need root. Tested on Z1c with stock deodexed rom.
1) Flash this port, (not my work) - http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-e/themes-apps/app-cm12-1-trebuchet-rom-t3145576 Now you can use Trebuchet on stock rom.
2) Install apktool for Android here - http://onhax.net/tag/apktool-for-android-5-2-0-apk Choose the right version for your phone. I'm using Z1c, so I installed 'arm7'. After installed, go to settings and check 'device has root', then close the app, and reopen to grant root access.
3) Using a root browser, make a directory in storage somewhere called 'apktool', {or something}, and copy the following to it: /system/framework/framework-res.apk, /system/framework/SemcGenericUxpRes/SemcGenericUxpRes.apk, and Trebuchet.apk, (from the zip you flashed).
4) Open apktool, go to apktool directory, and import all 3 files as framework, by tapping them and choosing the option. Now you can decompile Trebuchet, and you should get a folder called Trebuchet-src.
For auto-rotation - go to /res/values/bools.xml and change 'false' to 'true' in the 'allow rotation' line.
For other tweaks - poke around and figure some stuff out. I was trying to change the background in the app drawer, since I don't like the white, and you can see in screenshots that I changed the background behind the background, but the white is still there around the apps. I did it by changing a color value in 'colors', then adding a line in 'apps_customize_pane', but I haven't figured out the other layer. I think it might be in smali somewhere. I also changed the background in Trebuchet settings.
After saving changes, open apktool app and tap on the Trebuchet-src folder and choose 'recompile'. You should get a new apk called 'Trebuchet-src.apk'. Then tap on that, and choose 'sign', which will create a new apk called 'Trebuchet-src-sign.apk', which you can install normally. Note that you might get an error message on recompile about default translation. Don't worry about it; as long as there is a new apk created, it should be fine.
{Mods: I know I'm not a dev, and I was going to just post in Z1c general, but it seems like it may apply to 'cross-device', so I figured I'd give it a shot. Please judge as you will}
Found a couple more layers...
Got it, (kind of - it's a hack)...
This was an old post so not sure it still applies..found it while searching.
Might be a stupid question..but
Does CM Launcher not work in landscape mode? It's not rotating and no setting for it. Can't imagine it doesn't in 2018..
What am I missing here?
