is there a reason for this?

The reason is that the battery charging screen was a part of the original HTC recovery, but since you have rooted and added ClockworkMod recovery to your phone, that screen is no longer there, so it displays the ClockworkMod screen instead.
So if you don't want to see that screen, leave your phone on while charging and the screen will go into sleep mode and not show anything until you wake it up.

Tom

Clockwork Recovery boots up when powered off and charging

Hey all I just rooted my phone last night and installed the 8/11 version of cyanogen mod 6. Needless to say I don't miss HTC Sense. I have one small quirky detail though that's driving me up a wall
When i power off my phone at night and plug it in to the wall charger, it boots into Clockwork Recovery instead of too a battery indicator. I prefer to turn my phone off at night but I can't let it sit in Clockwork Recovery everytime i turn it off to charge.
Is this a bug and something I just have to deal with or is there a way to fix this? Thanks.

yes it's a minor issue, and yes, we all have to deal with it. It doesn't even start clockwork reliably that way.
It seems the old battery icon was part of the original recovery, so there is no fix is on the horizon. Really, no functionality has been lost. The phone is never really off when charging anyway. Better to just leave the phone on and let the screen go off while charging.
For future reference, this is not really a development topic, and is more suited for general discussion.

So, no functionality is lost?
Does that mean the phone is actually charging while in recovery? My LED shows orange like it is charging, but doesn't seem to turn green. I have fully charged the phone while on, used it a little (15 minutes or so), shut it down, then plug it in and it is still orange after a couple of hours.

No idea about that. I don't shut down to charge - so for me - no functionality is lost. I'll trade clockwork recovery for shutting down to charge any day.

security issue?
I understand if this is not a functionality issue, but what about security? I am running a tracking app on my phone in case of theft. Doesn't this make it extremely easy to wipe my phone and remove it?
What I'm wondering is if there is a recovery image that has a standard charging capability that I could use instead of Clockworkmod. I'm not planning on installing a new os any time soon even though I like clockworkmod.
HTC aria rooted with unrevoked and liberated froyo 2.2

no. if it bothers you that much, unroot your phone and reinstall the original recovery.
just flash the old recovery, you just wont be able to flash roms afterword without unrevoked.

[Q] Display Issue this morning help

Hey guys (and gals)
So I'm pretty new to android but I'm having a display problem as it it won't show anymore.
When I woke up this morning my little green light was flashing showing I had email, then I clicked the power button to turn on my phone and it was dark. NO display. So I thought my phone froze.
I then removed the battery and replaced it and tried again, held the power button and the green light whent on but still a dark display? Did my phone display die, or is there something else I can try before going to att?
Thanks.

sounds like the battery is defective. Get an exchange battery and if that doesn't help exchange the entire phone.

black screen after sleep

Hi,
my n10 works great except the odd time when I try to wake it up and it's completely non-responsive, just showing me a black screen.
I'm unlocked , and rooted, running CleanRom. Is this device related or rom?
Cheers

Device is on - as I said it's not waking from sleep with the power button.
Confirm.
Strange thing - sometimes notification LED blinking.
How are you guys determining its on?
I had a defective N10 and experienced similar things. Another user taught me a trick: When you see the led flash but can't turn on the screen try plugging in a charger - if the battery charge icon appears, its not actually "on"...

My RMA experience was pretty good. It was a Thursday afternoon I phoned Google, and had the second device the following Tuesday. Although I don't like that they put a charge hold on your credit card for another $500 which isn't the fastest to come off, the benefits outweigh that single negative. You don't have to pay for shipping, youre never without a device, for a while you have two devices so you can compare (if needed), shippings decently quick.

This "black screen of death" has just happened on my Nexus 10. My device is unlocked, rooted, with CWM and CM10.1 and stock kernel. EDIT: the battery was full (~80%)
I was using Perfect Viewer and the screen suddenly went black. I've tried holding the power button alone and with the volume buttons pressed for up to 1 minute and nothing. Tried to do the same while charging and while connected to a computer. I also tried to connect the USB cable while holding the power button. Nothing worked so far.
Is there any way to send commands such as "reboot' or "shutdown" while connected to a computer? (something like the way fastboot works on linux)
Maybe removing the battery might work, what you guys think?

"adb reboot" is what you're looking for.

I just held the power button for about 30 secs and then it rebooted fine. Maybe a different issue then
I've had the same issue this morning on a 4 day old nexus 10. Its actually the 3rd time this had happened. Stock os and 2 accounts setup.
I'm also getting random scan lines on display.
Gonna RMA mine. Can you only call Google or can you rma online?
You can call or email them. Good luck!

S4 randomly bricked?

I was running Goldeneye 3x for a few weeks, and just last night, i started to get a few random reboots. I thought nothing of it, then this morning, my phone doesn't turn on. I thought okay dead battery, put it to charge, but nope, no led, no response from the phone. There is no button combination that gives me a response. The only thing that gives me a response is taking the battery out, putting it back in. It gives the Samsung logo with the unlocked lock symbol and "custom" under it, and after about 2 seconds, it goes dead again. Maybe its a dead battery? What are my options? What should I look into?
Thanks
edit: got a new battery from fry's today, no difference, still won't turn on and still getting the same response from the phone

Since you can't get into safestrap, will it allow you to reboot into download mode? You could try ODIN back to stock?

Ya that's what I'm planning on doing, just waiting to run into someone who has an S4 lol
Could it be a broken power button (the internal button not the outside one)? or a messed up usb port? A different battery gave the same results as my original battery
