installed elements_zinc themed TYVM - Fascinate General

I have had my Fascinate since the first week that it came out, came from a droid. In my opinion, out of the box fascinate is by far the biggest POS ever. But I got it for the hardware and the unlocked boot loader. SO I rooted it, replaced the launcher, installed clockwork and waited for custom ROMs. I did not (and have not) done the "lag fix" due to my (possibly incorrect) feeling that the risk/reward is too high.
Yesterday I installed Elements_Zinc_v1.0-themed
Nice, very nice.
Downloaded with ROM Manager, backed up, cleared cached.
First, it LOOKS nice, and thats important.
Second, its fast. My understanding is that the kernel is not over clocked, so it must just be the removal of all the crap.
To the developers: Thank you, so much. You have made the fascinate the phone that its capable of being, well done.
To other users: I suggest you do the same; install this package from ROM manager. I believe that you will not be disappointed.
Based on the excellent job that was done on this ROM, I am very much looking forward to a 2.2 kernel. Thank you again.

I agree 100%. I came from a d1 then d2 and bought this phone for the same reasons. I also would like to thank the dev community for all of their hard work and I can't wait until they get their hands on froyo to really bring out the potential this device has.

I released 2.1.2 and I am planning the 2.1.3 release soon! Stay tunned....!

Well said OP.... =) I can't wait to see what you have planned for zinc next!!!
Its great to see a post like this so all the great devs we have working on the fascinate know that their hard work is appreciated and that we look forward to what they have in store for us!!!

I agree.
I get SO tired of the "I didn't follow the directions, now my phone doesn't work, the dev sucks" posts. Really, be a grownup for Xenu's sake.
I waited a couple of months before installing my first ROM because I wanted YOU guys to test it (sorry, too busy to be a beta tester ) And its a great ROM, well worth the wait and the dev deserves all sorts of love for the hard work.

As soon as i flashed the latest(old now) regaw, i got the rebootloop while plugged in deal. I just flashed back to my previous rom. I would rather not post and make devs look bad. Those are not my intentions, and judging by the numbers i figured it was most likely just me. But the whole popular rom thing is kind of starting to remind me of my iphone consumer theory(everyone else has one, so i want one too). So maybe even if flawwed, since 5000000 other ppl dl it then others who follow the popular vote will most likely feel compelled to follow suit. Dont be a sheep, test for yourself or just mod your own like ive always done as common logic.
I'm sorry to hear you guys are having such trouble with it. I've never heard of anyone not being able to get into the settings menu
Regaw is also my favorite because of it's combination of being super responsive and very stable. I've assembled a rom mod based on regawmod for my hero owning friends and family, I'll just say it's stable enough I have my girl running it although there's no reason it should run any different than RM2.1. If you guys want to give it a try shoot me a pm.
Wish I could be more help, I've just had very little trouble with RegawMOD.
regaw is my favorite because of the stability(over other roms), how heavily themed it is, and the direct support i get from the dev himself.
a fresh wipe and reflash has always fixed any issue ive ever had. but ill wait until next release. treve is emerging with some pretty promising things too.

Also I did a fresh wipe and even re downloaded it. no workie. Ill talk to regaw, He's so cool with things like this.

Been running regaw since it was released... No issues at all, loving it and I highly doubt I will switch. Fresh had more bugs than regaw... I have literally found 0 bugs on regaw and im loving it.

Rom port

I was looking through the lists of roms for the droid 2 and I saw that all the roms are either stock or blur or half blur.... I was wondering if it would even be possible to port the MIUI rom over to the droid 2. It is made for the incredible, nexus 1, original droid, evo, and a few other big name phones and I was thinking we should port it over to the droid 2.
I know there are going to be a bunch of complications but I still don't really understand why a bunch of these roms don't work yet for the droid 2 and what is involved in porting them over...
thanks a lot,
ljbaumer

If we were able to get MIUI on to the droid 2 would we be able to use a similar strategy for porting sense over?
Also when is someone gonna work on a kitchen for the D2? I feel like once we get a kitchen set up for this baby we're gonna get a bunch of cool new roms

I came from the Original Droid and the Dev community was HUGE! I would practially have a new ROM every week and I could switch so easily with Rom Manager. I loved it, the D2 just seems too hard to root, I've had to do so many sbf restores, I miss my old OG Droid.

Sorry I should have rephrased myself. Rooting is terribly easy compared to the old way on the OG droid. But I meant installing roms is such a pain on the D2
I am another former Eris user. There were a TON of really great ROMs on that phone. I said it before, I'll say it again: I knew eFuse would mean a diminished number of ROMs and a smaller dev community but I was honestly astonished at how small it is. I'm hoping the Matt churns out his Unleashed 3 here real soon as that would be the perfect basis for a kitchen. Having a good, solid kitchen would be all that we'd need to see some more good, non-Blur ROMs pop up.

I am from eris also and I made roms for myself (not for the public). It was a great community and I did a lot of beta testing for the developer of white widow rom series ( which was a big hit).

You can thank Moto for locking the bootlader and making us jump through hoops and using work arounds to get what we want out of our devices. If we had an unlocked bootloader then we could just install a new kernel but I assume new devices will have similar securities on them so at least from moto get used to working around until someone on the inside slips the keys.

I think this sort of thing is one of the biggest real annoyances of not having Froyo yet. To be honest the leaked DK28 is pretty good, but I think everyone (myself included) feels hesitant to commit to things because we'll do it "after Froyo comes".
For the longest time I did not upgrade to the DK28 because I figured fully cooked Froyo was around the corner. Certainly if I was a dev I would be hesitant to put effort into a ROM or a kitchen (not to mention kernal) until the final version was out. The biggest problem with not having it yet is not missing some specific features, its just that all the development for the Epic has this somewhat tentative feel to it as we all wait for Froyo and the Froyo source code.
exactly,I didnt want to make a ROM,but I had to get the name out there anyway,so....but yeah alot of devs really arnt giving 100% time/effort yet,but from what I hear somthing solid will be coming down the pipe very soon...

A kitchen is a way of setting up custom roms on the fly. Usually it's web based - you click through a series of pages choosing exactly what features you want in your rom. e.g. I want kernal x, with theme y, with boot animation z, etc. Often you also get a list of apps you can have pre-installed on the ROM - typically freeware system tweaking stuff (Spare Parts, ATK, etc.) You get to the last page, click the button and poof, a customized ROM downloads to your computer. You just move it the SD card, load it up in recovery and you're good to go.
Sounds pretty great, because it really is, but no one is going to bother to set all that up until we have some finalized Froyo on hand. Really, it is unlikely to happen until after we have the Froyo source code, and then after custom kernels are released, which will take even longer.
In the meantime we wait...
Is there anywhere/anyone that/who could teach me how Android runs so that I can do some custom mods when we do finally get Froyo? I'm new to the developing scene.

So, with the slow down in rom releases and updates due to stable builds that require nothing more. I thought I'd share the rom that I will be using for more then a day or too...I'm thinking long term here. I've found that I really enjoy ACS roms, Jaimie, King and settling on Koni III. I really like the stability, speed and options for customizing. I've found Koni III provides everything that other ACS roms have, except I really like the coloring and icons. They are smooth and everything functions normally. So i'm kind of freaking out, because now I have to use my phone like a normal person am I alone?

So, inform me how that equates to a shortage?! Haha, I literally can't keep up with trying g them all out!!!

There's even been recent sense releases, in the past couple days. There's konis elite III, dark cocoa, king cocoa, and Vaelpak 3.2 .
To answer your question, AOSP (android open source project) is straight android, no HTC sense, bloatware from sprint. Avg sense rom = 180-210mb. Avg AOSP rom = 60-80mb. AOSP doesn't have any of the HTC Widgets, and has different dialer, email, and contacts apps (among other differences throughout the rom) . I suggest trying it out if you're bored. You'll always just be a nandroid restore away from sense!

I love aosp, but i'm not ready for gingerbread and 6.1.2 just won't due! I agree flashing is annoying but addicitng, sad sad techie world I live in with my phone flashing and my MUD games....
I've got so many Nandroids backed up on my computer that to pass the time I just restore one every day or two. I'm running KES III right now and I'm happy with it...we'll see how long that lasts lol!
Just imagine the flurry of ridiculous this forum is gonna be when we get Gingerbread w/Sense this summer.
Myn, Mik, Koni, King, Vael and all our other sense devs are gonna be blowing the place up. I can't wait!!!
SInce I've had my Evo, I haven't gone more than 3 days withuut flashing something new. And I'e had them all, sense, Miui, The various CM Roms, but I've also settled on Koni III aqs my daily, until something new enough to catch my eye comes out.

That's why I ditched my T-Mobile phones (G1 and MyTouch Slide). I wanted something with a little more options. There wasn't anything better than CM over there although I think they have Desire Z roms in the G1 forums now.
I hope we get some devs to stick around. My decision to get an Evo 3d will be based on who goes and who stays. I'm a huge fan of Aamikam (MikFroYo) and Konikub so if they split there's probably a good bet I will too. Unless they still develop for the Evo. I know many devs who did dev work for the G1 long after they upgraded so it's not out of the ordinary.
My fingers are crossed. If there's no one who can make that 2.3 w/sense update super sexy like they did 2.2 w/sense then it might be time to split.

How come not ready for gingerbread? It's basically the same **** except for the cool lockscreen and the dope keyboard. Coming from being afraid of flashing ANY rom, I flashed Fresh in December, found it to be kinda buggy, then made the leap to CM7 right when RC1 came out, been HOOKED on it ever since. I'm on nightly 30 now and it's pretty dang stable. Make the leap, man
I've tried a couple of Gingerbread roms and ran into the usual Sprint VVM problem. While it's no big deal to call voicemail instead of using the visual, the V30 error that pops up every so often is a pain in the butt. I don't suppose there is a rom out there that won't give me that problem? I've tried the fix's listed in different threads and they (for me) work for a few hours and then I'm right back to the error messages. I don't use most of the Sense stuff, so it seems pointless to stay on a rom full of it. I've flashed at least 1 new rom a day trying to find something....
I havent flashed a rom in almost 2 months now, think ill go flash CM7 this evening though just to change things up a bit.

it's a lot more pretty than CM7 in a lot of ways but it can have it's laggy/buggy moments, particularly the launcher (little on the slow side)
I use a different launcher anyways. I dont like the MIUI iPhone style icons.
When i first try the MIUI roms, it was an amazing rom, but by the updates and all, it get bugged and bugged, i get back to sense <3.
I ran MIUI when it first got released, did not really like it. I installed it again figuring i have a long weekend i will give it a run. Damn i think i'm in love. the customization is crazy and quick. the rom is buttery smooth. I am having a few problems with handcent and plume but nothing deal breaking. Great rom my new daily driver.
I also installed this rom over the weekend and so far so good. I have all my apps sorted in folders which makes things much easier
Have been running MIUI since May, updating every week with new releases and I can't go to another ROM. I have tried but I end up running right back to MIUI. Really amazing work.
I've been debating whether or not to install it, haven't been able to take the plunge yet. Looks like a great ROM tho
I have run miui quite a few times, but cm7 has always been the most reliable for me... just my opinion.

The key I've found to MIUI is to find a version that runs bug free on your phone and stick with it until another comes out with an update that you really care about. I generally keep the version I'm on for ~1 month because I don't want to deal with the chance of that weeks minor updates screwing something up.

There's Chinese in the online section of the theme manager but that's really all I've ever seen.

I've been debating whether or not to install it, haven't been able to take the plunge yet. Looks like a great ROM tho

It is a good Rom, the dev team knows what they are doing. However with a stock interface that leaves a lot to be desired in the customization department..... I switched to adw launcher.... then figured why not go back to cm7 that has adw as it's native launcher.....
Um, did you notice the theme manager?
