Overclocking Max? - Legend General

Hey, I recently received a second legend and so am going to push one of them to the limit, I am currently running at 844mhz no problem, and completely stable. I was wondering what the highest possible frequency is? Can I try to reach 1ghz or is that not possible?
Sent from my Legend using XDA App

Dumfuq's V4 will let you go to 864. In that thread there's a 960 tester too. Let us know!

Any chance of a link for that?
Sent from my Legend using XDA App

So IV got to 960, its starting to jitter but still stable, Ish lol its super fast though
Sent from my Legend using XDA App

Nice
I'd advise leaving it at 864 though.

You Sir are one lucky b**tard. No offence. I cannot go past 768.

None taken I'm running nightly cm 25 if it helps at all...
Sent from my Legend using XDA App

I Use the latest cyanogenmod 7 stable and my legend is running @ 825mhz for 2months no problemo but 864 is a no-go for me.. it instantly reboots when i select 864

did you test the 1ghz?

When rising the overclocking, is it advisable to slowly bring your legend up to speed if you want to go over 800k?

[SOLVED] Quadrat Benchmark issue

Hey all,
When i run Quadrant Benchmark on my Device , it scores about 1400 points.
But this seems a bit low for me, because i flashed VirtousRom 0.7.3, with cpu speed at 1.4 GHz. Especially when i compare with the results on smartphonebenchmarks.com, they score much higher.
Can somebody explain that to me?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Hmm.. That does seem a bit low.. I'm running stock Rom with a 1.2Ghz overclock and will score just over 2k on Quadrant.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Maybe that's too high for your device? Have you tried the ones in between?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
The clock speed cant be an issue...i have done multiple benchmarks with it clocked all the way up to 1.8ghz...i doubt 1.2 or 1.4 is too high for the device...must be something with the ROM...im running the same rom tho just the most recent one 0.7.4 ill report back with a 1.2ghz and 1.4ghz oc benchmark
So heres the results on my Bell DZ running virtous 0.7.4
1.2ghz Run1-1919, Run2-1985, Run3-2029
1.4ghz Run1-2092, Run2-2285, Run3-2233
1.6ghz Run1-2214, Run2-2336, Run3-2396
1.8ghz Run1-2294, Run2-2542, Run3-2415
Probably pretty bogged down with like a 100apps
Sent from my HTC DesireZed
Ok, the problem was setCPU, reinstalled it and now it works.
Got 2300 points with 1.49 GHz and the whole system is running much smoother.
But anyway thanks for the replies.

Really,.... aha,... I might try a re-install n all. Nice one.

Why is it that I can only overclock my droid x to 1.15 ghz and I see other people getting higher then I can? Am I doing something wrong? If possible, could I get some help please. Thank you.

I had this issue on my phone as well...the way I got my phone overclocked past this was to set the governor to anything other than the default (i think its ondemand.) i personally use the performance governor and have my phone overclocked to 1.65 GHz...hope this helps ya
Thanks bro, I now have over clocked my phone to 1.45 ghz, how does your phone run at 1.65 ghz? And how do you get it that high? I am running at ulv on the droid x overclocker, is that good or should I go to lv? I apreciate your help...

+1 on 1.3-1.35....after that it actually starts slowing everything down, i just use LV 1.3 on boot, its too unstable at ulv or past 1.35
My phone is blazing fast and no slowing down for me....

Overclocking

Is there such thing as a safe overclock speed? Will my phone blow up for running it at 1.2 on a daily basis? (I searched for this topic but couldn't find anything specific to the glacier)
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA
The cpu in this phone overclocks well. 1.2 definitely won't hurt it. I've known people who ran everyday at 1.5.
I have an excellent cable internet service, with wireless. As such, I don't notice a real difference when I'm on WiFi. I wouldn't want to overclock anymore than 1.2 to 1.4

I'm just referring to the overall speed and performance of the handset. I haven't noticed any better performance with my phone being overclocked...isn't that the purpose of overclocking, to increase speed & performance? If not I am misunderstanding the purpose of overclocking?
I was just saying that with browsing and overall usage on my WiFi connection its hard to notice any changes whether I'm running at 1 GHz or 1.5 GHz ....

Overclocking doesn't speed up internet service though. It just speeds up scrolling through pages, windows, opening applications and overall performance within the applications and device.
I would get SetCPU, then you probably are fine up to 1.4 ghz. I really can't recommend pushing it higher because there isn't a noticable performance increase. I use SetCPU and i am clocked at around 122Mhz-1.3Ghz with a screen off profile of 122-768Mhz and a temperature profile of 32C> 122Mhz-1.0Ghz.
I know, a lot to take in but i get really good battery life with that stuff. If you get SetCPU, experiment.
Also, here are the take away messages.
1. USE SETCPU, ITS AWESOME
2.DON'T PUSH IT TO 2GHZ. YOU WILL FRY YOUR MOTHERBOARD
---If i have help, well you know the button to push---

I have been running at 1.2 for a year now and no problems whatsoever. Actually, what I have found has helped performance was to set the minimum CPU a little higher. It allows for a little less lag while your CPU is "spinning up." (I mean at 230, not at 500 or something)
1.2 is a very stable Overclock. You shouldn't run into any problems with that setting. Anything above 1.5 I wouldn't mess with, and you probably wouldn't see much of a real world speed increase from it anyway.

BlackICE WTF?

I was youtube vid, closed it and locked the phone. Unlocked it a few minutes later and it was laggy as hell. Another few minutes later it locked up (not responding ro piwer button, softkeys & touch). 30 seconds later it went to the BlackICE boot logo and didnt't boot into BlackICE. I let the battery die and plugged it back in (left it on from 8AM till about 3:30PM) and it worked fine (xda FC'd but reinstall fixed it). Any ideas on what caused this?

Do a full wipe...that might help. If not try doing a full wipe and reflashing the rom. How long have u been using it?
What caused it, no idea. But you could try fixing permissions before reflashing. That is, if the issue happens again. But yeah, full wipe would get rid of any issues if it is a software problem.
Sent from a dream.
Thanks for the replys guys, but I agree with @Taichopsia I think it was a S/W issue (ROM couldn't handle it, might've due to OC & governer settings) cause after the fix permissions the problem hasn't happened again (the unresponsive boot screen was a one time thing I think). Close the thread please (thanks again guys, saved me again!)
Sent from my Desire HD using xda premium
Ah.... messing with the oc/uv can cause those problems. That was an important part you skipped in explaining the issues. Just remember if you ever have any issues, the more info you provide the better.
Sent from a dream.
Oh yeah, just thought of that now. I didn't UV it but I did OC to 1.3 and set lowest volt to 122 (might've been the cause of the problems now I think about it) and change to smartassv2.

Nope, I don't play around with those settings. Not booting at all? You could try wiping dalvik and cache to see if it does anything. Doubtfully but it is better than wiping the whole system.
If it boots, then try reverting the settings and the make the changes in small increments
Sent from a dream.
It boots, sometimes freezes and reboots if I play with it too much
Sent from my Desire HD using Swype beta for Android!
There you go. There is a thread somewhere where they were collecting the different oc/uv settings. Since I don't play with those since my phone works just fine the way I use it.
Still waiting for your rom.
Sent from a dream.
So you overclocked it and played with voltage and your complaing that your phone is locking up because of the software?
Close this thread.
Didn't mess about with U/V but did O/C to 1.3 (considered stable upto 1.8 GHz)

Lol, its not a bug...not all phones are the same, some can OC higher, while others can barely do 1.2ghz. Also voltages come into play, some need more, some need less...But 2ghz is just there for those that can run it, you have to test your own device to see what it can handle. And remember, not all phones OC the same, so what works for one person doesn't mean it will work for u.

Don't forget to install setcpu after flashing the rom. My recommendations:
Min 200mhz max 600 for great battery life but slow phone
Min 200 or 300mhz max 800 for average performance
Min 300mhz max 1ghz for good performance and so-so battery life
My phone works stable even on 1.1 and 1.2 ghz but then I get big battery drain.
Another tip: default phone dialer is very slow/laggy. I use exDialer from playstore instead

Battery will drain faster, phone will be warmer. Some CPU's can't handle 1GHz so your phone may lag and you will have to change to a non-oc kernel.
