[Q] Wifi problem [can't see milestone's tether network] - Galaxy Tab General

Hi all,
I'm tring to connect my galaxy tab to internet through wifi tether on milestone and the tab can't see the milestone wifi network.
I know for sure that milestone's wifi tether works fine because I can use it with my laptop.
Anyone has the same issue?
How can I solve?

hi
i used the wifi hotspot of my desire and it worked great.
what i miss is the capability to find and connect to Ad Hoc's
(they just dont appear in the networks list on my tab)
maybe the milestone is creating a ad hoc.

Yes it is..
How can i make a different network type and fix it?
Sent from my GT-P1000 using Tapatalk

Same here bro... ill look into it.

Yeah. Am having the exact same issue as well.

wifi problem (can't see tether)
Hi guyz,
Just opened my brand new Galaxy tab , I'm having the same issue: he doesn't see any tether network (from my windows mobile 6.1 htc p3650) neither any "ad hoc" network created from my laptop pc sony vaio.
On the xds forum I found this solution http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7711198&postcount=6
(originally created by "daveba")
and here there is a video with the procedure http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k5o5WlyA7WI&feature=player_embedded
Hope you (and me) will solve with this trick,
please report me any problems /other ways to fix
Thank you, good work
faredino
(more: I'm not sure that the galaxy tab can connect to other wi-fi network since I just unwrapped it and there are no other wifi net nearby!...hope it's not a problem of MINE TAB only!!! :O )

Where Can i download the built in Infrastructure WIFI tethering app for HD2?

Hi, im in need of some assistance. I have a new android device, the Archos 5IT. my phone is the Tilt 2. i have been unable to get my tilt 2 tethered to it thru wifi. reason being that the xda wifi router app uses adhoc mode. the archos will only see Infrastructure connections. Someone on the archos forum said the HD2 has built in a wifi tethering app that is infrastructure mode. Can someone plz direct me to that app or another wifi tethering app that uses Infrastructure mode only? also, free apps...lol thnkx in advance i figure if i download that app, ill be good, and wont have to take this device back. plus its giving me probs trying to connect thru bt also. lol FIGURES
If you can't find a free one, I recommend WMWifiRouter (v2 and above). It lets you connect multiple devices via Wifi (infrastructure style) and Bluetooth, as well as work as a USB modem and a USB Wifi dongle.
If you have Omarket installed, just download "Mobile Wi-Fi Router." It works GREAT!
Sorry about reviving an old thread. I've been searching and trying to find this exact solution, but neither of the ones listed here are doing "Infrastructure" mode. I'm currently testing WMWifiRouter (v2.0 - build 1502, downloaded directly from their site today) and when I set up the wifi connection, it only gives an option for Ad-Hoc (or none - which is for connecting to another access-point).
Am I missing something with WMWifiRouter, or is there any other app at all that will do Infrastructure mode? I don't mind having to buy something, I just need it working.
Thanks!

Sorry if I am not clear with your issues above.
But, Winmo 6.5 in HD2, has a native wifi tethering application.
There is an option menu (in Comm Manager) to turn on the Wifi Router.
This will make your HD2 as an Access Point. It can accept 5 devices.
Cheers..
Yes but only in adhoc mode, not in infrastructure mode, which appears to be needed for connecting some devices like psp and my new HTC flyer!
Same problem with GT 10.1 and HTC HD2
I have the wifi router program but it's not working with my galaxy tab 10.1, how can i tell if its adhoc or infrastructure signal?

Hi, I am researching this as well, and here is what I have found so far.
1. Android does not currently support/connect to ad-hoc WiFi, only Infrastructure mode.
2. If your Android tablet device can not see the WiFi from your phone hotspot but a PC Can, then it is probably ad-hoc, as my WinMo HTC HD2 is.
3. I have an Asus Transformer tablet with Android 3.1 and this can not see my WiFi from the WiFi hotspot settings, but my PC can see it and connect to the HD2.
4. If there is an Android ROM for your phone, (XDA Forums) that will run from the SD card, you can boot into that and use the WiFi hotspot (Tethering) from the Android ROM. This seems to work fine on my setup.
Hope this helps
really would rather not root if at all possible
since i live in fear of ending up with a very expensive brick (by messing up rooting my xoom) - has anyone come up with a way to make the winmo htc hd2 send out an infrastructure wifi signal?

Simple answer is no. Winmo 6.5 will not do infrastructure wifi hotspot, no matter whether native Winmo app or a 3rd party app (i.e., WMWifirouter). You're going to have to do what I'm doing with my HD2. Go thru the learning process of installing an Android build on your SD card, and then boot into Android. You've very little risk of bricking the HD2 if you read carefully and follow the guides. [However, these guides are definitely written by geeks, not editors who write and re-write to be explicitly clear.] Supposedly, the Android Wifi router is infrastructure, but I've not yet gotten to that point in my own process. The first one I tried to install (AmeriCanAndroid) didn't complete booting up successfully, so I tried another Android build (MIUI), but in it I'm not finding a wifi tethering app. And, in it, the Market app is crashing. So, I'm now on the search for a 3rd Android build. The payoff is big (wifi tethering to my Viewpad 7 tablet), so I persevere. Good luck to you on your journey.

SGS ad-hoc WiFi support (wpa_supplicant patch)

Hi!
Did anyone manage to connect to an ad hoc wifi network? Its my understanding that you have to root your phone and edit some files in order to do so. My phone is already rooted. Anyone willing to try it out and give the steps here?
Thanks!
Android 2.1 does not support this.
Yes! I know that! But i think you can edit some files after rooting in order to allow this?
Galaxy S wont find ad hoc AP, how to fix?
Hi, how to configure galaxy to connect to a ad hoc ap? It seems like wont find the ac hoc SSID at all?
Hello,
Ad Hoc Access Points support start with Froyo, if you really need it, give the latest XXJP2 a try
Any luck finding the answer?
Nope! No luck yet! And it seems no one is interested
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
have you tried modifying those files (wpa_supplicant.conf and others)?
Are you just trying to use your phone as a mobile APN? Because this is built into the galaxy S.

I am trying to use my wired LAN connection on my phone using the Laptop's ad-hoc wifi connection.
I'm reasonably confident that it simply isn't supported in Android 2.1 and that it's totally unrelated to config files (i.e. There's nothing your average user can do about it). I don't know if ad-hoc wireless made it into Froyo but there has definitely been an official feature request filed to Google for ad-hoc functionality.
i also find it very annoying that sgs doesn't support ad-hoc.
You can try to use this software http://www.connectify.me/
sadly it uses windows 7..
Just had a look over here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=754961
Can any dev please patch the SGS version of wpa_supplicant? Pretty please?
Another thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=755254
really??
i couldn't find it even though i have jp3
The android OS filters out all Ad-hoc networks. There was a patched wpa_supplicant that seems to be working for some. I tried it and it does display the ad-hoc networks but fails when trying to obtain an IP... I am stay playing with it but I will update if I even manage a connection.

[Q] still no ad hoc in JPC??
is it true??
i tried a couple times and i'm still wondering about this ad-hoc problem
anyone?
i really need to confirm this
[Q] ad hoc in jpc??
is there still no ad hoc compability in the new FW JPC??
is there any trick to connect wi-fi from laptop to galaxy s.
PS: i use vista, so no connectify.
thx

[Q] A500 wifi connection - Help Needed

hi,
i'm french using freebox ADSL modem (Full dégroupé) V5. I've bought an Acer Iconia 500...all was great no problem with wifi connection.
I've just changed 5 days ago my frebbox V5 for the new one the V6...and then no more wifi connection for my Iconia A500.
I don't understand because all parameters of the V5 freebox are pushed by the free management operator's site in the new one.
I've checked in the freebox management software all informations are the same like old version.
All my others PC (notebooks & Netbooks) or Smartphones (Samsung Galaxy S) find and can use the wifi signal of the new Freebox.
In this new box (Freebox) diffrence is just an 802.11n implementation (V5 = G mode).
I've tried to downsize wifi signal from N to G, but problem still continue.
Has some one an idea or solution???
Thank you all for your help.
BR
Marc
Is there an option to set the network to Ad-Hoc or Infrastructure? The A500 can not use Ad-Hoc, so you need to set it to Infrastructure. If the A500 does not even display the network, then this is probably the problem. I had the same problem when using my iPhone as an access point. All other pcs could see the network except the A500.
if there is a reset button on the modem, just pressed it and reset all settings..
my friends problem gone with that..

[Q] Tab will not recognize phone to wifi tether...help

I have an HTC Hero(rooted) and my wife has the Samsung Epic 4G(rooted). I have tested both phones with the same WIFI Tethering app and the Galaxy Tab recognizes and connects to my wife's phone...internet wifi works just fine.
When I test it on my HERO...the Tab will not recognize the HERO at all. I know that this works just fine with my laptop. I've tried the wireless tethering app and still no luck.
I have the wireless tether app V. 2.0.7 and the WiFi tethering app V. 3.0...no luck on neither one of them. Wondering why it works fine with my wife's phone and not mine. There was no need to modify anything on the Tab for it to recognize the Epic...but no luck on the Hero.
Any ideas????
I know it can be done.
Thanks in advance.

Search this forum and the Development Forum for Ad-hoc Network support.
The gist is this - your phone (and most older phones) only provides an Ad-Hoc network to tether. The galaxy tab requires infrastructure mode to tether and will require a few fixes that are provided in a thread in the development section to work with Ad-hoc networks.
The Epic will provide infrastructure mode which is why it works and the Hero does not.
The issue is most likely that the Galaxy Tab 10.1 does not see/connect to Ad hoc networks, which is probably what your phone is broadcasting. If your Tab is rooted. Check out the link below. I followed the directions from the first post and am not able to tether to my iPhone (had the same issue as you prior).

A simpler solution is to use the latest experimental version (3.x) of android-wifi-tether on your phone:

My tab is not rooted yet, but I will do soon enough. Just a little afraid to do so right now. I've rooted quite a few phones so I'm confortable doing that. Just need to read a little more on how to root the tab. I'll take a look at the link you provided and hopefully I can get this thing to work.
Thanks

That's what I thought as well, but my Tab will not recognize my HTC Hero(yes it's an old phone) but my laptop recognizes it with no issue. Hero and Epic 4G have the same wifi tethering app and Epic connects with no problem, but my hero will not. Damn, I want this thing to work.

I have the same problem with Samsung Infuse Phone rooted and had Wifi tethering working fine with my laptop, but not Galaxy Tab 10.1. GT 10.1 didn't even see the SSID of the Samsung Infuse. Not sure what is the problem with SGT 10.1 wifi.
I got v3 to work but only with any password. Does anyone how to fix this?
After doing this WPA supplicant zip thing...will this effect my wifi network(at home) in any way?

That's exactly what my Droid was doing. The new build of wifi tether didn't work for me either. Changing the wpasupplicant (I think that's what its called) fixed it instantly and now my tab can see all ad hockey networks like my phone and printer!

[Q] N4 Connection to a AD-Hoc Network

Hey Guys,
I know already about some threads about that, however, I'm searching for a possibility to be able to connect to a Ad-Hoc network.
I'm using a Google Nexus 4 with the current Android version (KitKat 4.4.2). Even though i can't see the Ad-Hoc network which i createt. (Laptop can see it)
I created the Ad-Hoc network with my jailbroke iPad (so please don't post the solutions with windows) I searched a few days now but don't know what is actually working.
- wpa_supplicant for nexus 4?
- any ROM supporting it? (with Kernel?)
- any App/Mod activating it?
Would be nice if somebody could say something about it.
Greetings.
