[Q] Clockwork Issues - HTC Aria General

I usually swap R012 And CM6 about once every three weeks. So i have both backups. I like having Apps2SD but like SenseUI's easy menus. It's a toss up, However. I've noticed I'm having trouble restoring the boot image, "Boot Image failed to restore" then quits. I've wiped both before I restore. And nothing does on both CM6 and SenseUI. It'll do it after about 2 reboots into Clwk
How do i fix?

I dont know how to fix your issue, but don't recommend that you constantly flash. If you have a buggy unit - you are just depleteing the lifespan of the nandflash.
you should definitely try Liberated FR06, you get sense + froyo (app2sd, usb tethering, wifi hotspot all built in)
and be done with flashing back and forth.

I like stability. I have a non buggy Aria. It runs quite well. I experience problems with Wifi wake on CM6 but other than that. It's fine. On AT&T's network wifi is a must i can't be using all my data on Last.FM

internet/data issue due to different rom?

Anyone here seeing some data issues on the D2 running Fission? I am in a major city, and it seem like I am kind of having some data issues since I starting running Fusion, specially when browsing the web. The internet seems to lag a bit, and connection seems a bit slow(good bit slower than normal). I got a message few times relating to the data connection. I want to say this could be a network issue, but my sister with a Droid Inc, says here data is fine? Any ideas?
Called VZW today up asking if there was an issue on their end, and they said no. Tech then told me to take out the battery for 10-15 seconds and they try the internet when back on. Tech said it could be due to the phone not properly switching from one tower to another. It did work, but about 2 hours latter I was having the same connection issue where pages would no open up, and data was a bit on the slow side. Did the same method again, and that worked. I didn't have this issue on the stock D2 rom, or with my Eris(well that always dropped 3G reception, this is full bars with connection problem). Could this be due to me being on Fission 2.2.2, or is it whole different matter not due to being in Fission? Thanks

Im running 2.2.2 and im not having that issue. My girl has a D1 and she gets the same crappy service i get i really dont think its the rom. And i dont think there is enough of a difference between 2.2.1 and 2.2.2 to have one get different reception than the other
Shot from my level 60 crossbow of awesomness!
Maybe it just my phone then? I guess will see what I can do.
Have your tried a root reset with a reinstall?
I have been having this problem, Data will just stop working all together. Text messages won't get sent or delivered. The 3G icon just shows uploading and not downloading or stops showing anything at all. I can't fix it unless I turn on Airplane Mode then back off or reboot the phone. Right now I'm running Fission 2.1 but I ran into Data issues with the default R2D2 rom.

So the issue your having is not related to a fission rom...
So, I may have solved the issue. I started clean again; cleared all data and status and stuff, then reinstalled 2.2.2, and then hard rested. Only thing I did different was not install the black status bar and all seems fine, and data seems normal.

I hate to say this man, but from my experience, the more "stuff" you throw on top of a rom, the more bugs your gonna encounter. And youll never have the same bug twice...
Why is that?

The issue may have arisen again, but I was on the market, so it not clear if that was the market issue many people are facing or it was a data issue.

Im not a dev or anything, but here is an example. I was having problems with a rom i was running last night, reboots and such. The very first thing the dev who made the rom asked me was if i was running a theme. Now, im not saying you shouldnt use custom themes or addons with these roms, but every device is different and will react different. And when your flashing 3-4 different themes over a rom trying to find one you like, or flashing addons then trying to undo them your gonna create some issues. Of course, and i remind you again that im not a dev, this is completely based on my experience, and opinion
I guess with themes that can make sense. I wonder what team defused has to say about this?

HBOOT-0.35.0017 and 3g connectivity issues read here

EDIT: The problem is still occurring. I thought it was fixed.
Myself and a couple other people experienced stange 3g connection problems while running the cm7 nightlies (among other ROMs) with the new HBOOT-0.35.0017. I know it's been said that HBOOT shouldn't have anything to do with your data connection but nonetheless it is causing problems.

I'm sorry to tell you, but hboot has NOTHING to do with the radio part of the phone: it controls the system partitions table and boots the system... nothing else, it doesn't even touch the RAM parts dedicated to the hardware, the kernel does it.
I almost made up my mind to downgrade until seen the edit part. 3g part of signal is very very frustrating experience on my side while call part rarely let it down. Also signal always in close to100 reading while my Acer liquid on T Mobile stays to perfect 75-80 reading.
I'm on HBOOT-0.35.0017 and sometimes I get x gray bars but after it picks up signal and gets connect to H it seem to work fine. Until I lose the signal or I switch to airplane, etc. Takes a while sometimes to get back signal or the H.
I did notice that when the screen goes off my download stops or sometimes when I download certain files it stops right away. I been updating roms so not sure if it related to them, but overall its been like that.

yes screen off downloading stopping is quite annoying...
I dunno but since I upgraded my Hboot and used CM7... my data sucks. It will work then not work. I typically have to reset to get it back. Even switching in and out of airplane mode will not work.
And by 3G I mean my data connection. I'll have full bars and 3G coverage... but no data from the browser, no pings, no online apps, nothing. Seems like the only way to fix it is to reset the phone.
I also noticed my signal is noticeably less at home. Typically I have full bars but now I notice that it's been dropping out and bouncing.
Could be a carrier issue. But I haven't upgraded my radio since 5.08 first came out. I updated my HBoot for the early builds of GB. So I'm willing to test out this theory.
lol, hboot has nothing to do with the phone's radio. The radio version does.
If you're having a problem with the radio (voice/data) then you should look at the radio version you're running.
Again, hboot has nothing to do with your issue.
Ive had the data sticking problem since I got my n1. Remember reading somewhere that if you go into settings - wireless networks - mobile networks - network operators, when it finishes searching select "automatically select". I got T-Mobile & it works for me until the next time I flash a new rom.
FYI when I was on CM 6.1 I had your problems. I then switched to MicroMod777's Gingerbread and those problems disappeared. I've now flashed Enmother's TheOfficial Nexus1 and I'm testing. Absolutely a ROM problem.

Kinda the opposite for me. No data issues when i tried CM 6.1.1 but on MM Gingerbread i had no data connection at all!

Same here. I tried MM and nothing worked! lol. So I went back to the latest CM7 (#24). I'm not sure what the problem is. Now I'm on an older HBoot and an older Radio. I shoulda just left 5.12 and .35 on there.
Once I get my phone pieced back together, I may try one of the older CM6.1 roms to see if that fixes it. I think we are all using Gingerbread roms here, no? Perhaps that just is an issue that comes with it.

Same issue here, wondering if this hboot is incompatible w/ my old radio.
just received my new nightly, will give this method a try as soon as i upgraded.
thanks!
-- just saw the updated post, thanks anyway
Perhaps the OP should change the title and original message to exclude the HBoot details as the problem is with Data connection.
This will let us continue discussion about the data connection problem that we are, I am at least, experiencing.
Using CM7 #24 from 1/30, it seems to be less of an issue. I notice that I'll have 3G and full bars, but no data will work until it changes to an "H". Seems like it might just be the rom. The latest nightly seems to correct the issue better then before. Now if I open a browser, after 30s-1minute, it will start chugging along.

Help with Nebula ROM ISSUES

After a few issues I was able to get Nebula ROM 1.0.7 up and running on my EPIC. I really like it so far. It is much faster then the other ROM I tried out, plus it doesn't have any of the cheesey sound efffects.
I have used it for a day with no problems. My battery was getting a bit low so I shut the phone down to change batteries. I put the new battery in and when I booted it up it just went into a loop with the Nebula animation, then the 1.0.7 screen would come up and then it would just loop.
I took the battery back out, reinstalled it, and this time it boots into the phone but everything FC's. Took the battery out again and booted it back up and now this time it loads up, some things run, but others FC...
I did the clearing of all caches and user data three times along with a dalevic wipe three times... What gives??
I consider myself a computer geek, but am definately new to the rooting/custom rom thing, so I am a Noob, be gentle!!

Firstly, I'm sorry for your troubles and welcome you to the ROM scene. But I would say posting this (or looking through) the Nebula ROM thread or posting this in the Q&A section would likely end up with better results.
Secondly, I also had experienced issues with Nebula ROM 1.0.7. My recommendation is to Odin all the way back to DK28, then work your way back up to Nebula. Also, try flashing Nebula twice onto the device to try to remedy any problems.
Another tip, it seems that if you are using things like Titanium Backup that there are instances of people running into problems of backed up apps causing problems. Starting new is probably the best bet.
Hope this was of some use!
Thank you for the help.. I posted this in General because every other day I see people getting ripped into for not posting in General, so to be honest I have been scared to post anywhere else... But I have read the Nebula thread, not all 110+ pages, but quite a few of them. I am going to Odin back to DK28, format my SD card, and start from scratch, then try reinstalling all of my Apps.
I just think it is wierd that it worked flawlessly for a whole day without one FC and then when I changed my battery it went to hell.
The even stranger thing is some apps work fine, and then others FC everytime. Seems to be no rhyme or reason..
Only other thing I am thinking is I installed a bunch of new apps today and wondered if that could be part of the problem...
Oh well, it has made me more aware of what is going on behind the scenes with my phone.
I could be totally wrong, but I think that's due to it being an ext4 with no journaling rom. Without that safety net its possble for data to be corrupted. sinse I switched to ext4 with no journaling I started letting the phone turn off instead of just pulling out the battery.
Like I said tho I could be wrong on this. Back when I was on the moment I had ext2 which doesn't have journaling either and if the data became currupted somehow, it would cause the symptoms you are explaining.

Ah, alright. I'm not too certain as I'm unaware of a good deal of the inner workings of Android, but I do hope things get straightened out for you. My phone still has some apps that act up sometimes, mostly JuicePlotter it seems.
Hanging arround... I forgot my last un and passwd(I had an htc tilt a while ago... now I can't post on dev forum...) to use 1.0.7 I think you need ext4 (at least I'm using it) some apps are giving troubles with ext4. So try one by one, and use the cwm3 backup system. At least for me is easier and safer than tit or backup pro.

Sorry I missed this yesterday, but I wanted to say that I had the same problem updating to 1.07 and I had already gone back to DK28 stock w/ CWM3 before the upgrade. I also restored some apps and settings selectively using titanium. One thing that we may have in common is that I ran my battery ALL the way down accidentally after this upgrade, tried turning it on a couple times (and it would shut down right away) and when I plugged the phone back in I got the repetitive force closes when I tried to turn it on.
Anyhow, I recharged completely, started from stock DK28 again (and wiped the battery stats) and even with restoring the same settings from Titanium I have been running it for about a week now and it is rock solid. So, give it another shot and see how it goes...
The short version is I got everything working!! And Nebula 1.0.7 is the fastest rom I have used yet... But don't get too excited because this is only the third I've tried, and one of the other two is stock DK28.
What I ended up doing was Odin'ing back to DK28, installing CW3, and then doing the 3x3 clears. Then I also formated everything I could find in CW. Installed the Nebula Rom and still had an issue. Rebooted back into CW3 and then reinstalled the ROM again, and whalla.. It works.
I think for some reason you have to install it twice.. Strange I know..
I had force close issues as well, and all I did to fix it was go into CWM, and format/clear cache partition, and format/clear the dalvik-cache. Did this cache clear and dalvik clear 3 times.

I second this as a possible problem. Shut the phone off 100% before removing the battery. On the moment that I also had if you removed the battery or used quick boot with ext2 you faced possible data corruption, but there were kernels that would check and fix data. You'd end up in a boot loop though if it didn't repair.

I've been making sure to shut it off before removing the battery, so far so good. I'm really liking this much better than stock.

Problem with internet connectivity on Aria.

Hey all,
I've got this odd problem with my Aria running Cyanogen 7.1 with Drowing's kernel.
Consistently throughout the day while moving from place to place where I either have Wifi, strong 3g connections, or both, that I will lose internet connectivity until I reboot which will restore both internet and sync/facebook capabilities. At first I attributed the problem to Juice Defender messing with wifi and 3g disabling so I uninstalled it. After today though, I realize the problem must be something else because the exact same thing happened.
I have yet to try doing a data wipe and re-installing 7.1, but I will if it could fix the problem.
There have been many reported data issues (in the kernel's thread and the nightlies' thread) with the later builds of CM7 using that kernel.
You should be able to simply flash the CM7 ROM on top of your current installation, without wiping anything, which will revert you back to the default kernel. It's not clear why but when the Android version number bumped up to 2.3.7, DC's kernel has caused data problems for some people. You shouldn't need to wipe any data to correct the problem, but you will have to stop using the kernel -- at least until someone figures out why it's happening.
Gratitude for the replies.
I was getting that paranoid Windows itch that something was just not feeling right so I wiped everything and re-installed 7.1. Surprisingly without the kernel I haven't had any issues with the internet problem described above and the phone is actually performing better than ever. I am interested in finding out exactly why that happens, but I can live without it.
Thanks again guys!

I'm still having this issue with the stock kernel. Does anyone know which was the last nightly that didn't suffer from this?

I have not had any data issues with any nightly using the stock kernel. You could re-flashing your current one (or later if possible).
I found that any 3rd party apps that control Wifi (Scanners and such) tend to permanently disable/make me unable to connect until I reboot.

I've been running the latest nightlies during this time but I haven't reformatted in probably 2 months.
I went into my router and gave the Aria a reserved DHCP address 4 days ago. Since then the data hasn't dropped out a single time. Maybe dhcp is part of the problem?

[Q] Freezing During internet Usage

Hi there
I Have recently flashed the honeyvillain 3.7 kernel to my A501 running Taboonays ROM 2.2 with great success, i had my tablet running at 1.2GHZ most of the time which was lovely, after about a week though, it would freeze entirely when using any internet connectivity, wifi and mobile data. e.g running the web browser or skype calling would result in a crash after an undefined amount of time 100% everytime. everything else on the tablet works fine, nothing else is unusual at all except this freezing during internet usage. I was wondering if anyone else had run into a similar problem and if they had would they please be able to help me find a solution?
Much appreciated guys! Thankyou!

Sure you don't just have the wifi drop out, that will do the freeze.
Easy solution would be to reformat and reload your rom. Pain in the a, I know lol. But unless you find another solution it'll be what youll have to end up doing. You could actually just try reformatting your data, not system, and that may or may not fix it. You could also try flashing another kernel.
Just throwing out ideas BTW .
Reflashing the rom and/or kernel, will have no effect. The problem will still remain.
I've been chasing this issue for some time, and as near as I can tell, the internal 3g is very sensitive to "cooked" kernels. More than likely due to voltage modifications to the board and also processor. The modifications are done to increase battery life for overclocking. It's a very fine line.
Unfortunately, it doesn't effect "all" 501's, and this may be in part due to certain revisions on the internal hardware during manufacturing. Sort of hit and miss.
However, after flashing every 501 rom and kernel combination, I have settled on this solution.
For Rom, Harkon. It's the least cooked I believe.
For kernel, you can use what comes with Harkon, or Thors 3.9r3 kernel.
But, the catch, is that you have to leave your wifi on when out and about town. Don't ask why, but after I left the setting ON, the problem went away for almost 4 weeks now. You still get 3g when a wifi connection is not available, and a small loss in battery power, but at least you shouldn't get the screen freeze, or the "sleep of death" (won't wake up and have to do a hard boot).
Hope it works for you.
Sounds like you need to reflash, i was having the same issue when watching youtube on Thors rom, I relashed and it worked just fine.
