GOOGLE TV (is here)!!! - EVO 4G General

Anybody excited about this?
I didn't see any threads so perhaps not, but I think this looks very promising.
Sony and Google in bed together?
I know this isn't exactly news, I just wasn't sure if it would materialize.
http://www.google.com/tv/#utm_source=Horizon_GDN&utm_medium=Banner&utm_campaign=GTV

You're super late and you probably didn't see threads in here because this the Evo section of XDA. GTV looks good but I'm going to wait for the next version.

I want one but it doesn't do 120 Hz or 3D....bummed

You're late to the dance (i know..) also Logitech has their own version as well.
http://www.logitech.com/en-us/smartTV?WT.
Which you can use your "Evo" as a remote control... There is the tie in, thank you.

And sorry, Evo section is the only part of XDA that I frequent
As far as 120hz goes, I think only BluRay and video games make good use of this.
I'm pretty sure everything that goes over IP is never breaking 60hz. Cable tv included.

Well i play blu-ray's and have a 360 and a PS3 so its kinda a downer. Still interesting though. The 40" at $999 is a great price.

Nothing, I repeat, NOTHING, makes use of 120hz currently.120hz on tv is just to match frame rates between your tv running off of 60hz electricity and film's 24hz frame rate.
Signed an ISF certified calibration technician.
From my Evo to your eyeballs.

Nothing? But it looks so good when i seen them at Sam's Club.....

To me it seems like most 60hz 720p's look better than the 120hz 1080p's. Maybe my eyes are just that bad though?

Thanks for the info. I was beginning to think there was more to it than just numbers. I have a beatuiful 1080p tele sporting "120hz" and it does look amazing during some serious bluray playback... But alas, I believe it's the motion smoothing technology at work.
I tried explaining this to my friend a while back about 240hz. It's just motion matching/smoothing- but damn does it look nice.

I'm actually disappointed. It doesn't even seem like they enhanced it at all. Although I haven't tried it on hdmi yet. But the game play is fun and easier to control. And is still awesome to play on the big screen and its lime playing a while new game. I still highly recommend it!

lol just saw it on youtube. what a waste. Looks exactly like it does on my phone
I actually think it look better on the phone! Lol! It just seems like a port, nothing seemed redone on it. I hope their able to give updates for it. Right now I'm pretty pissed I wasted $4 on it.

I played it.
It's a straight up port.
Same levels, mobile version actually looks better because of the display size.

I'm lost, what did you all expect? They said it was a straight port. Now it just seems like you all are complaining just to be complaining.
All ya gotta do is stop and think, this was another way for them to capitalize on the popularity of the game itself. Sony, outside of Ninty, offers Rovio the best chances at as many people as they can. So they created a mini out of it. Minis are meant for the PSP. Except Sony made it where minis can play on the PS3 also.
I expect to see them create a Wii/DS version in the near future. Max penetration is the business model for this game.
(and yes, it does look better on my Evo just like it looks just as good on the PSP. Looks stretched on my PS3 with HDMI

Even if it's a port, which it is, that doesn't mean it needs to be so...poorly done.
The graphics should have been done so it at least looks good.
When it looks better on my Evo over a brand new 50" 1080p 2010 TV, that's a just plain silly.
I never read anything about it before it came to the PS3. And its the first mini I bought. It would be awesome to see Nintendo come out with a full future game. Even better if they let us make our own birds, levels, and share them online for others to play
Sent from my EVOlutionary Freshhh cellular....uh....mini tablet?
Well if you play any mini on A PS3 you will see that it looks craptascular, because of the fact that its for PSP, They should have left minis only playable on PSP sheesh.

if they redo the graphics then it's not a port. the fact that it's a port says "we just took the game and made it run on the other system without changing anything."

Basically. it's not like other games that are re released on the PS3 where the main sales pitch would've been ENHANCED GRAPHICS!!!! They never said that so I KNEW what to expect. A mini that is playable on the PS3.
I'm NOT defending the game one bit. I just think the whole complaint is DUMB. Rovio said it would be ONLY a port. I bet if any of you played it on the PSP, then you wouldn't complain as much because it would look JUST like it does on our phones. The stretching of the visuals is what messes it up.

Motorola Xoom Verizon User Guide Available

Don't think this has been posted here yet so I thought I would share.
Droid-Life.com has the article, and here's the download link.
edit:
lol: "If you can't see the screen while wearing sunglasses, take them off."
Also, there seems to be a help app you can download a http://www.motorola.com/xoomhelp but it doesn't appear to be available yet.
So, no USB charging, it requires it's own unique power cable.
Also, it mentions the HDMI out, and says you can watch videos, display your pictures, and show videos you've recorded all via HDMI. It does not say that it outputs the screen to HDMI like the Adam. This is something I want, and so far it doesn't look too good..

It seems like it's going to be exactly the same as it is on the Droid X, there are apps to allow clone mode output through HDMI on the X. Hopefully they will get a app for the Xoom not to far after it's release.

Huh, wonder why there isn't an app like that for the EVO. The EVO has the same issue, only Gallery and YouTube outputs via HDMI, and nobody has been able to make it do otherwise.
The Notion Ink Adam outputs the entire screen via HDMI, that's what I want for the Xoom.
I would bet this has all to do with HDCP.
It will be interesting to see how Netflix / Hulu Plus will be handled with this feature once they're available.
And also how the 'Speaker HD Dock' interfaces with this issue.
No usb charging isn't good..but since it has 10 hours of battery life i think i can deal with it.

In nearly all cases I have seen with smartphones, what they claim is always more than what you will get even in standby. It is like they test things in safe mode with nothing running. I hope at least 10 hours but I would not be surprised if it is much less. Although I want one bad, I think I am going to wait for the early adopters to report real world numbers first.
I love it when people report they get "Days" on new roms... I cant get "days" if i set ANY of my bloody phones on a table and left it to do NOTHING for the whole time lol.

I'm half tempted to wait on buying a Xoom until after the Netflix information is available. I mean, it's not a huge deal... I have a PS3, which I use for all my Netflix, but in the off-chance that I buy a second TV, I would expect my Xoom to be my primary Netflix delivery device.

i didn't realize you could tell the difference between 720p and 1080p on a 10" screen.
seriously, folks crying about no 1080p support on a 10" tablet is just silly. you can't even REALLY tell the difference unless you compare a -52" tv to a 52"+ tv, so how are you going to "see" the difference on a 10" screen?

the screen of the tablet is not meant to be 1080p anyway...
and.... for me really so far
What is the point to get HD capability on a tablet ? are you going to take HD video of your holidays with a TABLET ????? should you buy a CAMERA.
take some shoot yeah but for real quality... we are all agree that we need to buy the devices meant to be use for this.

the point is
if you want watch movie HD on your big TV well... you should not rely on a tablet to read them.... and buy a HDBox
I think really the tablet should not be NOW but later with technology and better screen... Full HD
build 1.139.05_COM_GEN1

I'm not saying that. I'm just saying they aren't talking about 1080p on the tablets screen. Maybe some of them have bigger TVs though, in whch 720 is NOT good enough. All I know is that I can see a huge difference 720 and 1080 on my little 19 inch TV, so on a bigger TV it would blow.

This belongs in the OT gaming thread..
That being said.. its not impressive to me..
It really doesnt stand a chance being marketed as a gaming device..
Perhaps as a social media/video device that happens to play games would be a better choice of marketing..

no reason it's a bad platform for consoles, it's the arm architecture that might not be up to the performance standards but i think you'll be surprised at what the terga 3 can do. it won't replace the 7 core processor in the ps3 but this isn't meant to compete with that. so game developers would have to resort to better story lines and game play. it's a way for people to get into game development and share. it will never have a market share that sony and ms have but i think the underground following can get very large.

This is exactly right. Is it gonna be the best console out there? Probably not. It will be, however, a neat toy that is worthy of MY $99.
I think it would be neat if they just sold the controller and had a curated app store so you could run the same games on a phone as well.
Microslut has announced a $99 Ecks Bocks a few months ago...
Yeah you have to pay for live with y but most people won't factor that in and this will be overlooked...
It needs to be marketed as something besides a gaming platform.. other areas, it would sell great.. in the gaming realm.. it will get torn apart..

This little thing has gotten some big attention lately.
I'm interested. Very interested in it.
I don't think it'll compete at ALL against the mainstays of console gaming...
But a tweakable, rootable, android console?
With huge backing?
At very least, I just want to sit back and watch what happens with all this hoopla!
Though, in my opinion, this thing could be an Indie Gaming Developer's dream.
We'll see what happens, though.

No kidding!
Just what sort of a ROM goes on a "console"?
Perhaps a lot of focus on media streaming and definitely a bit of emulation...
With how small and portable this thing is, it could be great to take around and quickly pop into any HDMI TV to play games or watch movies.

If you have stock, yeah...
But a lot of the Roms don't quite support the HDMI adapter right yet. (At least for ICS and JB, I think. Entropy fixed that on Froyo and Ginber, didn't he?)
And even then, it doesn't exactly mirror display of the phone.
Something like the Ouya is MADE to work on TVs right out.

I really think this will be a cool gaming device. It'll run android, its meant to be taken apart and messed with, and from I have read its open to development from everyone from game makers to hackers. This is exactly what we want here on are phones given to use in a gaming consule. Like said when they were making this it wasn't made to take on Xbox and PlayStation rather to have you play games on your TV. I watched games played on this think not made for it yet and it works pretty good. Plus this way we can play whatever games we want for free. I will be more then happy to buy one when its out. I really like what they are aiming for and I believe I can have a lot of fun with this as a gaming on it and hacking it.
Struggling to find legit system specs, are there any yet? Maybe I am having a "boy's" look
It's worth my $99 to spend on it. I'm not expecting it to rival the MS or Sony consoles.
Probably would use it as a media center
Well, I think this would be a great media center, i'd get it connected to a server computer wich i would store videos, films, photos and everything else

Shield + Portable projector

Nvidia Shield + Portable Project =.... Profit?
No really i literally picked up a cheap portable projector as a joke and went to my old tree house (Maybe 20 meters away from the house). I was surprised to still have a decent wifi connection and broadcasted a decent sized picture on the wall and enjoyed some PC gaming. Really wish I had this as a kid.
Figured I'd share the idea for those who may not have thought of this yet =)
Not sure if the idea of having a great 4g signal in the future going camping and still gaming or watching a movie on a big surface excites me or worries me about the direction I want to take with my media habits....
