Where/How is Battery Stats info stored? - Vibrant General

Is the data actually stored in the battery?
Do the batteries have ID's and the Phone tracks them?
Or is the data in the phone and you have stats that are irrelevant for if using multiple batteries?
I have 2 extra batteries and both me and the GF have Vibrants. So we constantly shuffle around 4 different batteries. Accurate battery readings are hard to come by. They'll display 100% or 0% for hours. Clearing battery stats doesn't seem to help. I know the proper battery meter recalibration procedure, but do I have to do this 4 times?

I believe they are stored in a file on your phone. I found that shuffling batteries really hindered my battery life. Now I stick to one and use the backup for emergencies only. Have seen great battery life since.

so even if you have a new battery but the battery stats in the phone is not good your phone's battery life will still suck?

I'm really digging not having to plug in my phone though. Just grab a battery and go. Not sure if inaccurate battery reading or tethered to wall for 3 hours a day is worse.

I don't think it's so much of battery sucking as much as it is the phone not knowing how much juice you have left.

Yeah the battery life info is stored in a file on your phone thats accessible through rom manager you can actually refresh it so learn a new battery/rom
****'ll buff out

Are all your batteries the same capacity? I switch between 3 batts, and they're nearly identical so I don't see these kinds of issues.

Are they unbranded G7s? Did you get them from Hong Kong or the US? I've read that some people with Hong Kong G7s through eBay found their batteries to be under capacity.

hmmm... I haven't tested them.
They are branded as 1500mAh.
Is there a way to test them?

Not yet.. Just ordered a standard 1350 mah battery tonight but could not find any extended battery or back covers. GPS is a battery killer, therefore a car charger and 2nd battery is a MUST.. Stay Tuned..
Here are a upcoming extended battery for Kaiser...
http://www.mugenpowerbatterijen.nl/
But no release date
I'm getting a TyTn II next week and was wondering how long the battery lasted when using the GPS? I use Memory Map for mountain biking and walking and currently use an external GPS on my old XDA IIi. The GPS lasts about 16hrs and the XDA about good 5hrs.

The max you'll get is about 4-5 hours.
Thanks vblues. That will be good then with a backup battery.
4-5 hours?!? I have heard people getting at least 12-24 hours with medium usage. Maybe if you have 3G on and connected all the time (say push email), you browse the web a lot, and you are on the phone constantly, you might get 4-5 hours. I don't know what the GPS life is, but it should be better than the battery life with 3G, as 3G is an active radio, so requires a lot more power.
12-24 hours!!! Wow that would be good. I don't plan on walking or biking for that long. I suppose I will just have to test it when it finally arrives.

he ment only in gps usage!
Yes. What I meant was only GPS usage. About 45-60min of GPS usage, the battery dropped from 100% to about 75%. This was when I was on a 3G network. If I stayed on a GSM network, the same amount of GPS usage drops the battery to about 80%.
3G does sap quite a bit of battery life so stay on a GSM network if you seldom use 3G/HSDPA.
HI!!!!!!!!!
It will be good then with a backup battery.
Purchased a 2700mAh battery £15 already looks to be promising as have done far more than i had previously and lost less juice "first day of use"
Yep your percentage dropped less, but you'll see that your device will most likely turn off by itself around 50%

lol, it's retail for the Kaiser, haven't hit bellow 50% yet as have been flashing the device alot to find what ROM suited me, will reported back with a big grin when the phone does not turn off bellow 50% to which i'd bet me right testicle on
Well, read here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=401571
There should be other threads around about this, it's a known problem.

Tried removing and putting in again?
Did you turn off between the time the battery was fully charged and the time it was empty?

I turned off between full charge and dead as flashing etc.
The battery lasted nearly 4 days with just little charges while flashing, transfering files etc, will let the phone totally run down and remove battery and replace to check, to be honest i can't believe that all extended batterys arn't registered by the phone correctly or that the Kaiser\Tilt does not have the capability of an extended battery, if this was a problem with all extended batterys then legal issues would have been involved with battery sellers by now as the sale of extended batterys would be liable for the fact that the item sold is not of use as the prefix says "extended battery" what i can believe is that some of the early batterys or even current could have had manufacturing defects....
I will hit you back with my findings and if i'm wrong i'm wrong and will be returning the extended battery.
I will wager one testicle that you will return the battery. The battery is indeed an extended since it will outlast the OEM battery by at least a few hours before shutting down.

Battery Options for EVO

So right now I have some choices:
Go with a Seidio Innocell 3500mAh that will be about 60 bucks through Amazon that has a massive hump in the back.
Go with a solar power battery of some sort (they have 3500 mAh batteries online)
Go with cheap backup batteries.
Try recharging the battery in the method that HTC recommended.
What do you guys think?
Just curious...why? As a backup or did you have a problem with your battery?
I'd cop an extra battery, I hate the added bulk but that's just me.

+1, they are not expensive either, though I do think the actual EVO battery cost more than a Touch Pro or TP2 battery, which, by coincidence, are the same as the stock EVO battery....
I want a new or extra battery because:
Even with all the phone setting tweaks, my battery life is still pathetic. I want something I can run the phone normally with, without having to worry about my battery going dead.
And my phone did not receive the new update, which supposedly helps the battery life out.

How bad battery life you getting? I am able to get around 12-15 hours of use which is pretty good for me.
It seemed to be doing better, lasting longer than before but today, I pulled it off the charger, it was at full battery. Then I had it sit there for about an hour and half maybe (doing nothing) and I looked and all the sudden it's down to just over half battery life.
I'm not sure what's going on. Before the Network setting change, I couldn't even use the phone for 20 minutes without the thing dropping to 75% charge. After that it lasted much much longer, except for today.

hah yeah , definitely need to get an extra battery. I want a yellow battery like in that HD Mini!
I am convinced that there was a bad batch off Evo batteries. You might find that another 1500mah solves your issues.
Also, be careful with the 3rd party 2000mah battery as it is reported to have a real world capacity off approx 1100mah!!

60 will get you 12 aftermarket tp2 batteries and 6 multi function battery chargers, batteries rated at 1500 but I don't believe they are actually that high, I'm standing at 7 hours of above moderate use on one, would easily last me through a day of work at normal use. THIS IS OFF EBAY. These batteries have not been conditioned by me yet, so I'll do that and test again.

Serious Battery Issues

I have a dft desire nand running with magldr. Im having serious battery drainage. I let it die. Charged it. Let it die again and then charged it again. Even then the battery life is only around 3 hours and its down to 5%. I use it but the only things I use is facebook, xda and aim.
Any suggestions?

1. Try other builds.
2. How old odd your battery? Genuine?
3. Search and read up on this topic.
I decided to try setcpu. Which I downloaded here. Its helping some. Its been about an hour and its gone down like 5%. So thats atleast a little better. Im gonna mess with the settings and find something I like. Im do some more research too.

Have you tried turning off
Settings>Display>Auto-Rotate,Autobrightness
Settings>Location&Security>Use Wireless Network and Use GPS satellites
Settings>Accounts&Sync settings>Background Data and Auto-Sync
Settings>Mobile Networks> Data Enabled and instead of having 3G on set it for 2G
When I do this I can get a whole days use out of my phone and only turn them on when needed. Try that out and see if it helps bro
I didnt realize some of those were still on. I was pretty sure I shut almost all of those off but your post made me go check. Haha. Guess not. Thanks man.

Try other builds or you can also install Current Widget from market and view your mA useage, enable log and then you can keep an eye on it and see what the minimum useage is. It should be around 1-5 in standby, if not then you have something running that is eating up battery.
If it is at 1-5 mA and you still have battery drain then it could be your battery on the fritz.
Problem is that allot of people tend to stick them on charge before they are drained properly or also do not let it charge fully. Some battery type's have a sort of memory and if you dont charge/discharge properly it can affrect overall battery life.
There is MANY thrteads on battery issues but really this shouldnt be an issue anymore as majority of ropms have great battery life. Also remember that Android is a battery hog even on native devices.
So check out some threads and try some solutions.

I don't doubt that at all after a 'few times'.
However, since I can't be arsed typing out my own explanation, how about I paste you one from the experts.
"Avoid completely discharging lithium-ion batteries
If a lithium-ion battery is discharged below 2.5 volts per cell, a safety circuit built into the battery opens and the battery appears to be dead. The original charger will be of no use. Only battery analyzers with the boost function have a chance of recharging the battery.
Also, for safety reasons, do not recharge deeply discharged lithium-ion batteries if they have been stored in that condition for several months."
Also:
"Unlike NiCad batteries, lithium-ion batteries do not have a charge memory. That means deep-discharge cycles are not required. In fact, it’s better for the battery to use partial-discharge cycles.
There is one exception. Battery experts suggest that after 30 charges, you should allow lithium-ion batteries to almost completely discharge. Continuous partial discharges create a condition called digital memory, decreasing the accuracy of the device’s power gauge. So let the battery discharge to the cut-off point and then recharge. The power gauge will be recalibrated."
So as long as you were hitting the 30-charge-and-dump schedule, you'll be ok.

Watching the battery meter adjust after swapping between batteries

I've never seen this before, but it's quite amusing..
I bought a spare battery (the giant extended UK eBay one). I used it all day yesterday, and just swapped in my normal one today. It should have a full charge. But the battery meter is reporting 21%.
Well, it WAS reporting that. 5 minutes ago it was reporting 32%, and now it's reporting 40%. Interesting stuff to see, for sure!

Its allways happend with android, if you switch batteries you should clear battery stats in recovery and it wouldnt happen
that's why i don't recommend frequent changes in battery unless in emergency situation because the device gets confused with the stats.. it's good to have one spare batt, but it's a lot better having a travel charger...

Yeah this is pretty much for high usage days, but not everyday usage. I see valid days for a battery swap once or twice a month, so the backup battery will really come in handy.

It may be confused but it's not bad for it. I have 3 batteries which I cycle. Sometimes it just up and shows the actual percentage, but other times it slowly increases until it gets to the right spot. That's it, it's not tearing down the space-time continuum inside the phone.

Best Method to Measure Battery life/SOT etc...

Like many others my 1 year-old A2017-U's battery life had deteriorated significantly. Until yesterday it was completely stock, unrooted. In an attempt to salvage what is a perfectly serviceable phone for me, I finally bit the bullet, unlocked, rooted and installed Lineage OS 14.1 and the Radioactive kernel.
What's a good way for me to objectively measure battery life. What I'd prefer to do, is to charge to full, and then understand under typical conditions how long it lasts, day by day.
Is there a good app for this?

In my view, there is non. Everyone's phone is different, with different apps, etc. What I used is Antutu's stress test and see how many % drops after X number of tests. It can also show how quickly it drops, but only useful if you have previous tests to compare to.

Accubattery. It measures the mA while charging and takes the estimate of mAh, coupled with the percentage thay you charged. After 2 charges with more than 20% (say, from 20 to 60) it will show you an estimate of the current battery capacity. after more charges it will get even more precise, bur in my case it's been showing 2400 mAh all the time

I don't trust Accubattery that much, I use a USB battery capacity tester (google for it). Plug it in between the charger and charge cable and it will show me the true capacity when full.

And how much difference does it report? I mean, why not trust Accubattery since we saw all of the results on the other thread? Before changing the battery it would report very low values like 58%, after changing it it reported about 96% which is really good

Bottom line is it is an app which will draw power when it is running, which may affect the result. I had not tested the app fully but on my old zf3, when screen is on, it reports as drawing at 500ma while the USB tester stay as the same before screen on, 1.8A. The USB tester measures the actual electricity that went down the cable while the app measures reading as reported by the phone, which could be wrong.
