Hi guys,
I've released my first Android application on the market. It's a free battery monitor that notifies you when your phone is fully charged and gives you misc information. This is my way of saying thanks to all of the developers and ROM cookers here in this great website.
Hope you like it and please share suggestions to improve it
Change log:
- Customizable notifications
- Auto start at boot time
- Fixed full detection
- Fixed notification
If you like it, you can make a donation, just follow the link in my sign. It will keep me motivated to develop more applications based on what people need
Looks impressive, I was actually looking for something to display the percentage use rather than a green bar. Could this replace the conventional monitor on the right or must it remain an extra notification? The health I think is great too, well done!
Thanks for your input. Hum... I don't have a clue on how could I replace the conventional monitor on the right. If anyone has a clue on how to achieve this, or where can I look for this, please let me know.
Doesn't look possible sadly ... maybe a home screen widget would rock!
Nice application, competes with "Battery Indicator", they both essentially do the same thing but I think this looks more colourful for free.
My only issue is that the % doesn't display other than when it is charged. Fix that and make it skinable and I'm in! Maybe have it appear on the lock screen in a similair manner to the iPhone too .

Hum... on my device the % changes in realtime, whenever the battery decreases (discharging) or increases (charging). About skins... never thought about that. I was looking into getting battery history and estimate how much battery we have left in terms of time.
Updated to v4
What's new:
- Voice notification when full.
- Misc fixes.
Updated to v5
- Fixed force closes that happened when people don't have TTS on their devices.
- Battery and TTS objects are now independent of the interface, reduced the amount of code and optimized the framework.
- Only updates when the battery changes instead of timed checks of battery level, meaning much more battery efficient.
Updated to 5.7
Changes:
- Preview voice alert
- Configuration of Text-To-Speech settings from application
- Icons according to GUI guidelines
- Fixed the detection of full charge
- Uptime since boot of the phone (might change in the future for since charged)
Looks fantastic, nice work

I for one would prefer this ( or at least have it as an option ). This would be helpful since I switch the phone off at night.
Thanks.
seems nice! i'm going to try it. just two things i'd love to see:
a nice battery widget similar to "battery info" (with all extra data and maybe a quick enable/disable overclocked feature) and the ability to disable the status bar notification, at least when not charging, since i don't need it as it replicates the stuff i see in my battery widget.
if you add these two whings i'm going to donate for sure
I love it, one of the first apps i downloaded when i got the Desire.. Donating for sure.
Thanks guys, keep suggestions coming. I've changed the uptime to reflect every time we charge, by reseting the uptime variable to 0 when we plug it in.
I would like to see a battery widget geared for us using the after market high capacity batteries (Battery Left never seems to get it right). I would like the option to give the high and low mV values, and have the app base the percentage of the battery left using those 2 values.
Why we don't have the icon like on the screenshoot in the first post ?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
i have not installed/tried this yet, but i wanted to know, is there a setting, whereby a setting to set the fully charge percentage?
Li-lon battery should not 100% charged, right?
does this shut down after its done charging? Or does it use battery resources?
The weather doesn't auto update for me. I had it set to update every hour, but it only update when I visit the weather tab.
I set it to be manual since auto update didn't work as I wanted.
If I update the weather at night, usually 9pm or later and the icon changes to the moon, the weather icon will change to be the sun after midnight. I've noticed this at least a couple of times now.
Anybody else notice this?
Yep. I noticed it with both a cooked ROM and the stock one. I'm not really sure it's a ROM releated thing, but more of an htc bug, at least regarding that fact that it doesn't auto-update on the device front page.
the switching to sun after midnight is because it uses the last forecast for the next day. look at the icons for 5 day forecast you will see one will be missing on the right, and the one that was "tomorrow" is now set as today, and since the 5 day forecast always shows daytime images, thats why it switches to sun.

Hi,
As many HTC Desire/Incredible/EVO users know, there is a system bug in one of the syncronization services that keeps the device awake and completely destroys battery life and user's experience over the course of less a day. While it is solved by killing the Calendar service or keeping Flickr sync off by default, it sometimes reemerges to kill the battery again. It is a very annoying bug that HTC has not even considered solving so far, hopefully 2.2 ROM may or may not solve the issue.
Meanwhile I ask the XDA community to create an app/widget that solves the problem either automatically or by informing the user and assisting him in solving the problem by killing faulty sync processes on the phone.
The app/widget would have do the following:
* Monitor Uptime and Awake Time over the course of last X hours. X is set by the user, by default 6 hours, defineable up to 24 hours, user chooses upon creating the widget on the homescreen. If for the X last hours Uptime is equal to Awake Time, there might be in result of the bug.
* 1x1 Widget that shows icons: (1) green icon, if Uptime is not equal to Awake time and device is capable of sleeping; (2) red icon if Uptime is equal to Awake Time.
* Clicking the Widget has the following effect, choose which is applicable:
** It informs the user via dialog that he may be having the bug, he might have to kill the Calendar Sync, press Ok to open Running Services Settings where user can kill the Calendar Sync process.
** It kills the Calendar Sync process and any other processes known to XDA that cause the problem. Then informs the user that it has killed certain cervices via Notification Message.
Such an excellent post and not a single reply?
Such an old post, and one reply?
I encourage this, but bringing this back from the dead?
But having an app check for another one running all day would suck the juice out of your battery.
I guess.. I'm just a consumer, not a creator.
Hi!
I was searching just a same app. I have samsung i5700, and it doesn't have the built in capability to shwo the awake time.
So, i found this app: Uptime (developer is ZerOhOh, google it)
This is a widget, can show uptime or waketime, and the new version can count the %.
Hey Everyone, I wanted to see if I could get some opinions on this. Basically, I've had my N7 for a few days, and I *really* like it. Best tablet/phone I've ever used IMO. That being said, there is something bugging me about it: the battery life.
Google says 8-9 hours, and being a realist I take that to mean 6-7 hours. Fair enough. I noticed that it seemed like my battery was draining rather quickly, so I did a little experiment.
Last night I charged it to 100%. I then played about an hour of a pretty intense (graphically) game called Horn, and read some web pages for maybe 30-45 minutes. That took the battery down to 77%. When I got up this morning the battery was at 74% (where is that 300 hours standby number coming from?!). Then I checked through my Flipboard, Facebook, etc for about an hour this morning, and now it's at 51%. So basically, 2.5 hours of use took my battery to half. Is that normal? Also, I noticed last night that Android OS was listed as 46% of my battery usage which seemed really high, it's back down to 3% now. As far as I know there weren't any super intense background tasks happening.
So if you could just give me some idea of how much life you get out of your battery I'd appreciate it. Thanks!
Expect 4-5 hours on games like Horn. I get about a day and a half on heavy browsing. Two - three days on idle. Display is by far heaviest drain. I set mine to about 30 percent manual brightness.
Bottom line - if you use it a lot, charge it daily.
If you let it sit for days - turn it off. No such thing as 300 hours on idle.

Yeah, I figured Horn would be a major drain, bit I find myself constantly plugging this thing in! Basically the second I'm not using it I have it plugged in... Maybe I'll try going a day without playing any games and see how it goes. Thanks.
Same here. Never got more than 7 hours with heave use.

Everything depends on how you use your tablet, how many background apps are running etc. I think the battery is pretty OK, even if I play and browse on it.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
Your situation is very common. Turn your brightness down and you will save a load of power. However if the os is sucking 46% of energy used then something is very wrong. I'd be worried if it strayed above 10% so you might have a faulty device.
On mine currently:
Screen 84% (manual 30 percent bright)
Android System 3%
Android OS 3%
Media server is at 6 percent - I really need to look at that one. Probably scanning directories.
Just a quick update...
I've been checking the usage off and on all day and haven't seen Android OS higher than 4% all day, that must have been some random thing when I checked it before. Everything seems pretty good now. I played Horn for a bit and lost about 15% battery, so that was definitely the main culprate. I recharged, and have just been doing random web stuff, email, a bit of facebook, made a widget in UCCW and the battery has only gone down 10%. I have my screen on auto brightness and it's been taking between 70%-80%, but that's to be expected. Other than that, nothing is above 5%. I'm happy with that .
Thanks for letting me know your usage folks, I was worried that something was wrong for a minute (especially seeing Android OS so high) but it look like everything is A-OK.
with the proper optimizing of your system, settings, and apps, this nexus 7 beast has wonderful battery life. of course it all depends how you use the device. playing lots of cpu/gpu intensive games will lower the screen on time.

Awesome. I don't have anything crazy happening at all. I installed Nova Launcher Pro because I wanted a scrollable dock and only one homescreen. On my homescreen I have a custom UCCW widget with the date/weather, flipboard widget, music widget (the one that came preinstalled), and the Evernote widget.
ES Task Manager says I have these Tasks running:
Asus Keyboard
Android Keyboard
Calendar (widget)
Clock (widget)
Face Unlock
Facebook (widget)
Fused Location
Google Account Manager
Google Search
Nfc Service
Nova Launcher
Package Access Helper
Settings (widget)
The Weather Network (widget)
UCCW (widget)
Honestly, I don't know what half of those are or if I can stop them, especially the widgets. The UCCW widget is set to open up The Weather Network app when I tap it, so that's probably why the TWN (widget) is on the list, and I assume the facebook one is just so I can get notifications (even though I don't actually have it on my screen as a widget).
Off topic, I noticed in your screenshots that you modified your notification bar at the top. Can you tell me how you did that? I really want to get rid of the clock/battery symbol but I don't know how to do that yet (I'm still really new but I don't want to waste your time so if you can just point me to a thread/google search that will show me how I'll figure it out eventually). I'm running the stock ROM and don't want to change that yet because I'm afraid I'll screw something up LOL.
Thanks again!

first off, that facebook app is the probably one of the worst behaving apps out there, it LOVES to drain battery when youre not using it. ive been using the browser for facebook for a long time now. one day i got fed up with the facebook app when i literally didnt open it for a month but noticed that during one battery cycle it drained 17% of my battery. there are lots of apps available, some are written/optimized better than others. youll just have to find those that behave well and behave badly, and get rid of the badly behaving apps. that will come with time and your experience.
also, i try to use minimally apps that have notification or run in the background. the only notifications that i use are gmail and talk. all other notifications i disable. having a lot of different apps that are checking for notification all the time will also lower battery life. really, there are a lot of variables for battery life, too many in fact. since i have root, i also delete a bunch of system apps that i dont use, they eat battery too. like the calandar, the email(not gmail) app, certain live wallpapers, nfc(i dont use nfc), tags, and more. anything i dont need goes. speaking of root, thats why notification area is different. with root, you are in complete control of your device. you can modify it any way you want. custom roms/kernels also give you more control of your device, as well as a more optimized device. but take your time considering root. if you do decide to go that way, take your time and learn about what root is and what you can do with it. dont rush into it.
im not going to go on typing here, as i have dinner and an adult beverage waiting for me. ill keep an eye on this thread in case you have more questions

You ROCK. Thanks so much for the nice reply...
BTW, my device is unlocked/rooted - it was the first thing I did when I got it (used Nexus 7 Toolkit v4.0.0). I wanted to unlock it ASAP so that if in the future I want to load some custom ROM or something I won't have to delete *everything*. I figured I'd root it and install busybox while I was at it.
Enjoy your dinner and your adult beverage! If you get a second tomorrow I'd appreciate it if you could point me in the right direction to modify that notification bar. I expected Nova Launcher to let me do that, but it's a simple on/off thing. I want it to stay on, but I want to change what's displayed on the right side.
Have a great night!

i use the rasbean jelly rom(and the trinity kernel) which comes with its own choice of modifications and tweaks. plus the trinity kernel is highly optimized(great on battery and on performance).
Do try manual brightness setting.
Auto Brightness is not very useful (too bright), and it makes up for it by being not very good (flicker).
Manual saves a bunch on battery life.

truth. i keep mine at about 20-25%.
It depends on how you use your tablet
Since I am not an aggresive user, my battery can last one and a half day
Using my nexus for playing games, checking email and browsing
CM 10.1 Nightlies
i am also disappointed with battery life. for me 4 hours is avg i get. after about 2 hours of screen time, battery drained down from 100% to 56%. and i set brightness to minimum. All auto sync is off. attaching the screen capture. I know people gonna hate when i mention tablet from fruit company, but the mini version of it goes on for about 8 hours of use. Android P in depth review (updating...)
Hi XDA, this is my opinion on the freshest dev preview of android P
Appearance
The appearance looks smoother and polished. The notifications have rounded corners and the Heads Up notifications appear like they are actually coming from the status bar instead of a rectangle taking up the screen. This is looking more and more similar to IOS, but android's customizability takes the lead. The new settings app looks a lot like the touchwiz settings because of the color coded icons. The clock has shifted to the left because P is made to support "notch" devices (i'll explain why Google is working hard for this feature later). The settings menu is organized more like touchwiz with the colored icons and that is a plus in my book. Overall, I believe this OS has achieved a greater standard when it comes to appearance.
New Features
Since this is only DP1, we are not seeing many new features, but I have seen the screenshot editor, different volume controls, the new settings app, etc. The screenshot editor is a much needed tool for me because I use social media and need to crop my screenshots, now this function can help me do just that. The volume defaults to media rather than ringer. The ring has 3 options, silent, vibrate, or ring. I believe this to be a better standard because I am always adjusting the media volume, but never the ring volume. This switch has kept the average consumer in mind. The new settings app has many battery tweaks! First off, there is a new power saving mode that doesn't tint your nav bar and status bar an ugly red color. This time, the battery saver works by limiting background power usage on applications and has a greater improvement on SOT. On DP2 at Google I/O, there will probably be more features to look for.
SOT/Battery life
The SOT has increased from 6 hrs on DU to 10 hrs on P. This is because P limits the background camera and microphone usage for apps such as Snapchat, Facebook, Twitter, etc. The new battery saver feature can be turned on at any time and increases the SOT even more! I use the kirisakura harmony kernel for P and it is as good as the stock kernel, with better audio quality.
Tweaks, root, what else?
TWRP 3.2.1-2 works, but the password decryption is still faulty. It still registers what lock setting you're using. Magisk v16.1 has been released on the beta thread and magisk manager is bundled in (it is working and registering this time). Some magisk modules are not working because of P, but that should all be fixed in a few days. The only CK i've seen is Kirisakura harmony.
Overall...
Android P is a great OS for people that like new features and is relatively stable for a new OS. There are some api compatibility notifications, but that is because app devs haven't upgraded to the new api. I will be using this as my DD until official P comes out.
Thanks.

I don't know if anyone will agree with me but my battery life is the same or better as stock for me. I had a couple force closes in the first 5 minutes after my first boot but only 2 since then. Snapchat comes up with a toast message occasionally that says something like "API compatibility error" or something, but the app still works. It has a couple hang ups here and there. I honestly feel like it's DP2 or 3 material. Been running for 24 hours, just my experience though.

Also have been running for 24 hours and battery is on par with stock Oreo. Haven't had any issues with apps, I don't use many though. Bluetooth works but it still said I was connected to my head unit after I turned my car off and was in my house, toggle off and on fixed it. Bluetooth icon doesn't show unless it's connected but it seems to be by design. Seems very stable for a dp1 but I think I might flash back to Oreo if root isn't available soon.

Well you can hate it but iOS is far ahead of android when it comes to the UI.
I personally like the new UI on P.
Bugs so far (fresh image install, 100% unmodified non-rooted) in my few hours of testing. Keep in mind that I paid attention to every little detail:
1. Phone didn't want to wake one time to the point where I thought the phone was off. It took maybe 10-15 seconds of fiddling with the power button to wake it.
- This alone makes me think that an alarm clock could be missed.
2. Randomly goes from silent to ring.
- May be dangerous for some people depending on situation (business meetings, school setting, sleeping).
3. Launcher settings can be seen through the app drawer background.
- Tacky cosmetic mistake.
4. Adaptive brightness appears broken.
I'm sure there are more that I haven't encountered as it was only for a couple of hours. I wouldn't run it as a daily driver if you rely on your phone for things like business, alarm clock, maps, etc.
It's pretty functional for an alpha release but I wouldn't call this stable enough for everyday use unless you're comfortable with the possibility of the phone switching to ring randomly, missing an alarm clock for an important event, or phone not waking to capture a life moment (picture/video).

That's weird I didn't have any of these issues except for the launcher settings icons displaying over the app drawer.
I did however encounter some minor problems:
On the settings icon shortcuts, when I click on "Data usage" I get an error saying "app not installed"
I cannot get the new screenshots editor, when I click on edit right after taking a screenshot it takes mo to the Google photos editor
I have noticed errors related to API compatibility showing on certain apps
Some apps don't seem to work correctly, GSam Battery Monitor for example is showing wrong stats (SOT jumped from 3 to 4h in a couple of minutes)
Other than that everything seems to work in a good and smooth way.
Words with Friends kept FCing
Pros:
1. Beautiful UI
2. Battery life is great (no orange bar for battery saving mode)
3. Notification management! P recognizes the types of notifications you want/ or don't want and gives you a quick option to disable them.
4. No FCs so far (might just be me)
Cons:
1. Launcher settings can be seen through app drawer (dev preview ****)
2. Settings icons are hideous
3. Media volume setting comes up by default when pressing the volume button. (might just be me)
I love so much about P. I can't wait for until it's out of dev preview.

I think I read that now volume keys always default to media volume rather than ring volume. Check one of the feature list posts in xda news to verify.
Review updated, includes more stuff
I've been running Android P for about 3 days now my Pixel XL. I haven't had many issues at all, but my battery seems to drain/die much fast than it did on 8.1.
I may try to re flash P again to see if a fresh install helps in anyway. Especially since everyone seems to be getting much better battery life with P.
I'll update if I see any difference.
So you are getting 10 hours of SoT with this P preview? Seems unreal man!

I'm also getting worse battery life on P, although I did just update from 8.1 with the factory image without wiping. I might just give it a try after wiping but I'd really rather not. I'm using a normal Pixel, non-XL.
