Good idea, but:
I think this thread is a little unappropriate. You can ask people for their personalpreference, but there's not Best Android since that's a very subjective matter. Either change the title to Choose Your Preferred Android (or anything similar) or it will be closed for certain
My personal favorite is [mattc Froyo w/Sense 1.8] because it's really clean and stock-like, and working like a charm!
there is no such thing as the best rom and i feel sorry for those who make choices based on popularity only.
just for the record, i use coredroid now and used xcelsior's before. neither of these are on your list...
Neither are mattc Leo and froyo sense. And OzDroid is winmo

I really dont know if I want to keep this open as these kind of threads have always been a breeding ground for flames and arguments to start. I will keep it open 'for now' but will be keeping an eye on it and if it starts to degrade from the subject then I will have to close it.
Either way you need to take the_scotsman's OZDROID out of the list as it is a WinMo Rom WITHOUT an Android Build included. Also it might be worth asking for the reasons why someone prefers the build they are using as it may give insight to new users looking for a Build to use.
I also changed the title of the thread to make it less prone to flames and clarify that this isnt a vote for the Best Build but purely what the users prefers. Please also change the title of the poll acordingly.
Mark.
I'm getting ready to flash my first Android build but I visited a few threads before and the poll results confirm what I had heard.
It's a good idea to help newcomers like me decide, as long as it doesn't derail .

Cheers mark,
I've always been bad with my assignments no matter how hard i try i'd always mess them rofl writing has been always my weakest point and will be
cheers for sorting it out
PS: I wasn't sure about that Win one either might remove it to keep it pure Android ones, i should made it more like "which droid you use most?" so that would have made it easier to see who use what...
PS: the purpose of this was to see which one is most fav among us as all and which build is recommended by most. as you can choose more than one to vote for i think its fair on all
Cheer
For me so far the shubCRAFT 2.0 seems to be the best. But i tried almost every android build around. The phiremod, and hyperdroid 1.7 are ok too.
This must be because i like the sense-less builds.
My main concern with this thread is it being outdated when new builds get released or updated. And it's all subjective anyway. One mans meat is another mans poison, ones man sick setup is another man iPhone...

I had that in mind but this isn't meant to run for long time, if it shows 1 week's info i guess it will be much beneficial for many of us.
Rest i am curious, want to know and being new to Android wont hurt to see who use which android and for what purpose guess that will enhance our knowledge about the build a little more, i find it really hard going thru 500+ pages and 1000s of posts to just get some proper info as u know that already.
Thanks for time and info much appreciated always...
Ok well if it's just for a personal snapshot of what people are using at the moment I kinda get it, but even if we like something doesn't mean you will, and our stability may not guarantee it for you.
Using Shubcraft 2.0 (DropMode) atm and really liking it. Couple of little niggles (notification bar colour, changing it in the settings doesn't seem to work properly; installer bar on market flickers annoyingly) but they really are minor. Boots reasonably quick, doesn't crash on me, good standby battery drain, mostly reliable data.
* [UPD][BUILD][24.10.10]Mdeejay FroYo HD v.3.7|1.32.405.3|kernel:hastarin R7.6
This has given me great battery life because it's under-clocked, and still runs very smooth.
The skin changer is a great new feature for eye candy and so far everything works except the camera, but I can always boot back to winmo to take pics, until a solution is found.
I was reluctant to try this as I didn't want to reset up everything, so with a fresh SD card copied the build then coppied my image file from Froyo Sense 3.2 and amazingly it worked without issues. Just lucky I guess.
A big thanks to all you Devs. I never thought Android could be so much fun....

I echo everything you've said but the camera is a killerapp for me, especially as the software on the Android builds produces much better shots than on WinMo.
Using Evo Revolution 2.3 until Mdeejay FroYo HD sorts the camera out.
I'm on mattc's 1.8. The most amazing build I've ever seen. It's stable, runs smooth with hastarins 8.1 kernel and I had never any problems. I've tried several others, like MDJ, Froyostone and Bangsters. But I have to say the only problem I had in MDJ's build was the issue with those scrolling lags and they're gettin very annoying at some time. The other builds I had much more problems like sync over the air, wrong GPS data and so on. And don't think I'm just puttin some builds on my phone to see that they don't work. I'm really in Android and I had long nights trying to solve those problems.
That's why I prefer mattc. Never had any dammed issue But where is he? I would really appreciate an update..
Tytung's NexusHD2 wasn't listed and is the best Nexus-based build yet. It is the absolute only Nexus-based build that will function smoothly as a factory build with all my usual widgets. And I use the G2 7-screen launcher. So I have 7 pages worth of widgets and it is still as smooth as a factory phone. All of the others I've tried, except the MCCM Nexus-based build, will be laggy as hell and jerky when scrolling between homescreens.

I'm half way through my 2nd day using Android on my HD2 and this thread is for me to say what issues i've found. Not to complain, just because most of them may have fixes or other people may have the same issues. These ROMS haven't long been out and i'm sure the developers here will fix many issues.
ROM: NRGZ28 Energy ROM
Radio: .12
Android Build: Desire v5
Battery Life:
Compared with WinMo, Android appears to be less optomised on battery. I put the phone on a full charge at 7pm last night, at this time(10:25am) with very little use, 1 3 minute call and a quick check on Facebook) the battery only has 50% left just over
Unresponsive Screen:
Occasionally the screen will stop responding, however pressing a hardware button usually clears the problem up
Photo Uploading:
I took 2 photos yesturday and went to upload them to Facebook, however the progress bar stays at 0% on the notification bar and no way to remove it
No Mic/Audio:
I've made another thread for this and I found the problem, with my Windows Mobile ROM it doesn't automatically load CLRAD.EXE before HaRAT.EXE, so when starting up the phone, i have to take out SD Card, use File Explorer to start CLRAD.exe, put SD Card in then launch HaRAT.exe
I've heard changing to the Titanium WinMo ROM fixes many issues compared to Energy so I may try that tonight
your rom should be fine to run android.
desire v5 is not the best choice, cause its one of the first builds.
you should take an new build before doing anything else...
if you like sense, give mattc 1.6 a try. if you not like sense take a look at darkstones newest froyostone.
there have been many many kernel updates since desire v5 was released. you will notice a huge difference in speed and response...

Thanks for the tip, I may try Mattc 1.6, is that 1.6 the version of the ROM or is it Android 1.6?
Actually wait a bit on mattc 1.6. It currently has issues. mattc 1.5b is my fulltime build right now. I haven't used WinMo in 2 weeks. As a matter of fact, I'm going to load on a light version of WinMo, like Chucky's. Why have a bloated WinMo when you're not using it?

I said to you to upgrade as desire is an older build. In regards of clfcad it should be on your SD card in the android folder along with haret so why is it stored elsewhere? Plus you always have to click clrcad before running haret unless you use an android launcher like mskips which does this automatically.
So OP other than your experiences with highly known problems. What was your experince with android overall.
Did you like it? Did you use it to is full potential? Did you try out the new voice search? What did you think of qik? or any other note worthy apps?
I know you are probably already aware but I just wanted to say
these things.
The battery life improves with use of setcpu. Considering the phone was never designed to run android I am ok with it.
Unresponsive screen is solved right now by disabling screen rotation.
there is also a slight delay built in I believe.
Uploads were a big problem untill the recent ppp fix.
You shouldnt ever have a problem with sound running aslong
as clrad.exe is being properly ran.
I wanted to address these because I believe android on the hd2 needs a fair chance. If we dont take into account these minor flaws we wont see the greatness.

Those files are in the Android folder on the SD card, but I thought the WinMo ROM as it has a button built in to launch Android would be scripted to run CLFCAD.exe and HaRAT.exe automatically, wrongly assumed on my part though.
hmm, mskips you say? May give that a go.
Yeah i've been told by a few people to upgrade the Android rom i have, the reason I started with this one is because i figured the HTC Desire is a similar phone to HD2. I'll try in a bit a new WinMo ROM and Android ROM but with the same radio

Don't get me wrong this isn't me complaining about it. I knew there would be "niggling" issues of course.
Well personally, I love it. I want to use it as my main OS. It is suprisingly stable, it looks good, it runs reasonably well(i.e above issues). I love the Android Marketplace, i've given Layar a go(which runs well and is fun) i enjoy Latitude and using it with Google Buzz.
I am hugely grateful for the work people are putting into these ROMs, its fantastic and as they get improved and issues get fixed well, I can imagine great things
sorry I didnt mean to imply anything. I just wanted to see what you enjoyed. I am glad to see you are enjoying it.
I knew these guys were smart so i bought it even before I knew about the project.
Dreams really do come true lol.

I agree, I will be keeping a close eye on the ROMs and as they get improved more and more, our experiences with Android will only get better. Right now i'm experimenting with different builds to see which one suites me best
So I desperately miss Hyperdroid and Shubcraft for their Sense and Cyanogen builds but I need more stable builds with newer updates on stability, battery drain, wi-fi, LED, GPS, etc. What builds do you find to be the most complete to date and which kernels and tweaks are you all using?
I'm not looking for perfection or a lot of detail, I just don't have a lot of time to test all of the different builds lately with my schedule and was hoping for some suggestions. For now it looks like HD2ONE for Cyanogen based and MDJ for Sense based seem to be the most complete but I keep running into little snags here or there.
Anyone have any recommendations? I know they are all great and I love working with all the different builds. Just wondering what seems to be the magic combination of build + kernel + tweaks (if any) that you have found. I'll figure out the rest.
Thank you for any input you can provide.
So here's what I'm thinking would work for me
Non-Sense
NexusHD2-FRG83D V1.7 PPP with Hastarin 8.5.1
Sense
MDJ Froyo HD 4.3 with included MDJ S7.5HD
Cyanogen Based
HD2ONE 0.3.3 PPP with Hastarin 8.5.1
Guess these 3 seem to be the best for what I'm looking for. I am not sure what the best kernels are for each but I'll keep messing with them. Anyone have any suggestions on what I may experience that I should know about or why I should use the oldcam vs regular, which ones really need to be OC'd or whatever?
Thanks and sorry for being so vague. I wish I had more time to mess with this and I just got spoiled with Hyperdroid and Shubcraft till they fled the scene to go work on improving their minds and making a difference in this world with their talents instead of working on Android builds all day. How selfish! /s
Non Sense: JDMS 1.6
Fastest build i've ever used and stable too, just try not to customize it much. :3
Sense: Mdeejay froyoHD 4.3
Well it's not the best, i'd prefer his revolution build over it cuz it's faster, but since mdeejay hasn't updated that build in a month and seems more focused on his hd build, the froyoHD will get better over time
Cyan: HyperDroid
It's the best cyanogen mod i've ever used, but it hasn't been update in a month so iunno.
Overall i prefer the JDMS 1.6 build best, stable and fast (quadrant score of 2300+ for me without overclocking the cpu). I'm having some problems with music skipping on it and it turning on party shuffling and itself randomly at time, but i suspect it's the winmo rom causing the problems since windows media player pops up randomly too when i use the winmo rom.

Thank you for the response. I know this is like saying "what's the best flavor of ice cream out there?" But we watch the Food Network for the same reasons. We sometimes just look for ideas.
So yes, I liked JDMS a lot but I just noticed the nightly builds of HD2ONE and it is rocking so I'm going to stick with that over JDMS or Hyperdroid. I'm pegging 1900s in quadrant and it seems like everything is working. I'll need to spin it for a day to make sure. I like it enough that I'm not going to use NexusHD as my daily any longer but of course I will still mess around with it as it's a very nice build. I would like to find MDJs CM nightly's wherever they are.
So I totally agree with MDJ4.3 for my sense build. I had to install setcpu and rock it all the way up to get the same quadrant scores but it was needed as it was a little laggy otherwise. Everything seems great in there too. I think the bluetooth audio controls aren't working in it if I'm not mistaken but I can deal without that... again, will spin it for a day or two.
So yeah, I hope that helps anyone else. I know the best method is just trying all of them out and seeing what happens. I'm sure there are others that may sway me but everyone here is so awesome that I'm sure it will only get better... as soon as Gingerbread drops, I'll be messing around with new ones again. Love this phone until some true innovative phones drop, I'm wicked happy as always.
Thanks again!
how about between Darkstone/MCCM FroyoSense 3.4 or MDJ Sense 2.4 as sense builds?
personally I havent tried the non sense and cyan.
i also have tried MIUI builds (Iphone interface) which still is in development however very fast and very responsive... just that I didnt want my HD2 to look like an Iphone, which defeats its whole point
Hey all,
i wanted to know which build you prefer and which build the most stable one is. im searching for a version with less bugs. i want a non laggy version. can somebody help?
the ram versions are far away from being stable right?
what about the hd versions? have they much bugs?
I love to know this too. I want stable and not care much of nice animation. i think you will get different answer because i don't think anyone know what the best out there. You will have to try different one to see which one work for you best. Every single one out there will the different issue you might run into? The good thing are alot of developer actively working on these rom for FREE. That really nice of them. I really appreciate all the hard work.
The common response to this question is that it's really about personal preference at this point. There may be some small features not working in each build but I can't say that any of them have any particular major flaws unless it's a "work in progress" build like Gingerbread MyTouch4G or whatever. I recommend bookmarking this http://android.hd2roms.com/ and get a better idea of the different Roms and see which are staying updated or w/e. I like to have 2 types of Roms, a Stock-like or Cyanogen-based and a Sense-themed. Of these types, I have found the following to be particularly good for me:
- Cyanogen-based: HD2ONE (all though he is not developing any longer, this one should be solid for a long time.. my personal favorite) - JDMS (could easily replace HD2ONE for me if JDMS stays in the game and keeps new Cyanogen builds rotating in and doing the testing\tweaking for us)
- Sense-themed: MDJ Froyo HD (I'm most impressed with MDJ's commitment to keeping his roms up to date. Sense based are often bulky so I have to overclock them a tad but MDJ compensates by undervolting nicely)
- Stock-like: Darkstone SuperRam (I may be biased for Darkstone's builds but this one loads super quick) - NexusHD2 (Solid and Slick... nothing wrong with this one)
- Experimental: MDJ Gingerbread (Really looking forward to the last couple things to get ironed out on this build)
So yeah, there are 6 right there that I use. Which one I use the most is kinda hard to say. I currently bounce between HD2ONE and MDJ FroyoHD. I use Excellar boot loader and just customize my Rom names and just reboot in each and play/test them all for speed/stability/functionality at my leisure. I just load up my card like this and figure out what works for me the most:
/HD2ONE
/MDJFroyoHD
/SuperRAM
/JDMS
/NexusHD2
Bottom-Line... all of them are excellent, have fun and try each on. And don't be afraid to try something new. A lot of new guys are trying to get their stuff out there for us and need testers and feedback to help them perfect it. Sorry for being long winded, there really is no simple answer. They are all good!
For me its MDJ Revolution HD v.1.2 with hastarin 8.6 kernel
Its apsolutly fast, stable and good looking. I have tried almoust all versions and this one is definitly winner for me.
I vote for option A - Try them all and see which one you like best.
Mdeejay Sense Clean 2.3 build as posted in Mdeejay thread by Hastarin. It has Hastarin kernel 8.53b included but you can update to 8.6. It's totally stable and I haven't found anything to replace it.

The Nexus build from TyTung is the most stable and there is nothing "not" working...check it out.
MCCM's builds are perfect. Everything works and they are fast without overclooking. I get 1662 on quadrant with stock CPU settings. with his builds. I'm using his Desire HD build.

Also, they are rock solid stable and battery draws 5 - 7 mA in standby.

Nexus build by TyTung, it is very smooth & stable, with very low battery consumption
i agree with the nexus one notion. my only problem is that battery when standby averages at 11 mA
Any build can be as good as you want if you know what to do. For me, I simply like sense builds. I have mdj 1.7 as main but I am currently testing moto my touch 4g and dandiest desire z.

There are two causes for this, one Tytung address in his post; GPS off.
The other is addressed in my post; it's a light that stays on that's supposed to be used only during call.

hi,
i was wondering, now with all the android roms beeing published to xda
i'd realy like to know which rom is actualy the most recent, or the best, with the least errors and best to work
and another thing,
is it possible to delete windows from my phone and let my phone start directly from android, to avoid the long boot time?
@natihorny - Here's a link to TechBurrow's thread. There is a video/ links for what you need to do to flash your phone with Android and have it boot up directly to it without dealing with WM. I've yet to do this, as I'm still at work, but plan on giving it a try in the coming days.

I would suggest that you dont use NAND builds yet they are far from perfect but instead you should use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=847631 it is motomans black and blue build wich is by far the best sense android build even much better than any ram and nand build and as for winmo flash this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893438 and it will boot android just as fast as any nand build and you will never have problems with this setup
this is a very, very subjective thread. there is not "best" rom--it's all about what you're looking for in a rom. for example, vanilla froyo vs. desire vs. desire hd vs. miui vs. gingerbread. or sd vs. sd ram vs. nand.
personally, i'm a proponent of sd ram. i haven't actually used it long term, but it seems to be very fast (and based on darkstone, it's even faster than nand). especially with nand being very young in its development, i would stick to sd for now. plus, it's much easier to flash and fix in case you corrupt your rom somehow. there's a few out there (just look for "[SD] [RAM]" in the descriptions), but one i'd like to point out is darkstone's superram froyo. i'm kinda busy right now, but that's definitely the rom i'm going to be using and modding to my liking.
good luck and have fun flashing!
ok, thanks everyone for the helpfull answers,
i had still one other question and thats,
i just bought a new car with bluetooth function, though my cell phone and the bluetooth of the car don't connect like it should, (thats why i wanted an android with the least amount of problems) and i was wondering if the fact that the bluetooth is only visible 120 seconds may cause the problem.

i was wondering, in some of the android roms, you can choose skins from htc sense and have the htc market, and can download more htc backgrounds, sounds, etc. etc.
and now i have the rom you suggested, both for windows as for android which i'd like to use, but doesn't have that htc sense thing buildt in the android rom, how can i get it back?

The build you are speaking of is the desire hd. I didn't suggest that build because it is laggy and slow. Even after 10 restarts and 2 days of use it still laggs alot compared to the one I posted in B4. Take it from someone that has tried every build available the motoman build is BY FAR the BEST after you get over all the HOOPLAH over the new htc sense wich is cool i'll admit but the coolness wears off after about 2 days and your just stuck with a laggy non responsive HD build. now others will post how good thier HD build works after hours of tweeking and reading and tweeking and reading. But trust me you will go back to the motoman build after you try the hd for a few days
@ wrecless
thanks for your view about which rom to choose, i'll do as you say, since you realy know what you're talking about, and i was hoping you tell me whenever a perfect rom from the htc desire is out?

I installed the darkstone build and had problems but I cant remember exactly what they were. In my opinion the motoman build was just as fast and had no problems. I'v been trying everything just because i want something different but I always come back to this build nothing out there seams to work as well as this one and as for the nand builds they are all RMNET. So untill I see a working PPP build I'm going to keep using this SD build
Why hasnt a mod moved or deleted this topic?

I had no problems at all with darkstones super ram builds they worked very well for me everything worked fine ppp wifi ect, i noticed darkstone froyo was a bit faster than his sence build but its still very fast
I tryed Motoman's build and found it very nice, but am having problems with wifi and market, I think there may be a fix for these but ive not had time to browse through the forum as of yet.
I really like JNF Android Starter Xtreme you recommended its funky

Not sure one can find a perfect build ( or mate for that matter ), but I do have some info collected that others may find useful in the link below. If anyone can find a build with everything working, please let us know.

I actually went the ADW Launcher Ex route...bad-ass...
Ok, guys. After installing and testing some of the best and popular android builds I came around to write my opinions here.
First thing first... I appreciate all the works by guys who made android SD builds.
Second, sorry if my English is not good enough.
I purchased my hd2 about a month ago. And after some research I decide to install wp7 and android on it.
But the question for me was which android build will be more suitable?
Here are some important key features to choose from:
1. Reliable
2. Fast
3. Stable
4. Smooth
5. User friendly
6. Pre-installed programs
7. Development cycle
8. Compatibility
9. Error and bug free
10. Battery usage
11. Cutting edge technology
Between these key features, 3 builds were more competitive.
1. American android
2. Desire DL
3. Rafdriod
For those who like pre install programs, HTC sense and software compatibility, go for Desire DL or Rafdriod which both are based on Froyo 2.2.1, I personally prefer Rafdriod between these two. Because, it's more reliable, less freezes, a bit faster and more battery efficiency. Both Froyo Builds are more android software market installation compatible.
But for those who needs stable, reliable, user friendly, cutting edge technology, error and bug free, smooth, fast and more battery efficiency OS, I recommed using gingerbread builds which American android is one the best builds based on gingerbread 2.3.3
Anyway, you may experience some Android market application installation compatibility issue on gingerbread builds, which I think it’s worth it to wait for newer versions of those applications that work with gingerbread.
Here is comparison Chart Attached
Have a great time installing your Android....
Thanks. Many if not most of us spend a lot of time for finding the best build for their needs. This is part of the fun, but reading other people's experiences is surely helpful.
I greatly appreciate this... i have been doong this since my hd2 came in on the second shippment. I have grown tired of following dev's/ cook's just to see there near perfect builds. Then boom they are gone and buiod is stuck. I have been looking to move to rafdroid and now feel confident. So thank you for this info.
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA App
I am using Rafdriod 4.2 and is running continously 2 days. Use mainly for calls and a bit of wifi, switch to airplane mode when I retire for the night.
I can say the build is excellent and the battery consumption is decent, suitable for normal day-to-day usage. Will try 'American andriod' soon.
Awesome thread. Really appreciate your thoughtful research on the top sd based android.
my opinion: both MCCM's and BOYPPC's Gingerbread builds are far better than AmeriCanDroid builds
wow! it seems American Android is the best since it is free of bugs and smooth....will download & test it ASAP!! Thanks!
Thanked! I narrowed my choice down between RAFDROID and DL Desire, mainly because I wanted a rom with SenseUI. After reading this I think I'm gonna go with RAFDROID!

Can you elaborate please?
I have tested MCCM HD 4.0 (Froyo), was laggy and battery eater. DesireDL 2.1 was better for me.
Thanks to the OP for this comparison ! Now I'm hesitating between RafDroid 4.2 and AmericanDroid. Will test both I think...

the HD 4.0 is a 2.2 build, but i talked about Gingerbread builds...MCCM's GB build temporaly kick from xda, but you can try BOYPPC GB v5, it's on the forum.
I've tried RAF and AA versions.
I found the RAF version very usable but just the odd time it would hang at all the wrong times, trying to answer a call or simply unlocking the device. The rest of the OS was brilliant and worked well. The hanging just made me think i have to try another flavour android.
So I went onto AA.
Seems to fly, no hangs yet but data keeps dropping and that's starting to get annoying. I can be browsing quite happily for the data to just stop working. I've tried various fixes. Thankfully this version doesn't require a restart to get data working but it's still a pain to go and switch off data and then back on again.
Battery life has been average, would have expected better by now to be honest.
If a dev can just meet in the middle I'll be the happiest chap in the world
Good post, I pretty much agree with the comparison.
AmericanDroid is definitely the "best" overall SD Android version on HD2.
Now I will give a subsctancial donation to any developer managing to make a "real" sense build (with HTC sense, and not just a theme) as stable as AmericanDroid, even if the battery life is a bit (not too much) shorter.
This is very informative post, and matches my experience. But, since I'm not ready to completely give WM6.5 up, I'd like you to tell me how NAND builds compare to this. If AA gets 10 for stability, reliability, smoothness and speed, would same NAND build get 12? Would NAND Rafdroid score better than SD? How everything compares to native Android devices?
I personally have given up trying any of the Sense builds because of the battery drain.
MCCM GB V2.2 SD and Americandroid are both on a par (about a days moderate to heavy use) but I seem to have settled on MCCM.
I will go to a nand build in the near future as I have not booted into 6.5 in the last 2 weeks and have not missed it.
I have been testing the 'beta' version of the UI I used to use on winmo and am loving it on top of gingerbread. Can't wait to buy it when it comes out
It's normal MCCM is similar... that guy's not a dev, he copy/pastes the work of other devs among which Americandroid.

That may or may not be true, but I can say MCCM's V4.5 [DESIRE HD Sense] is fast and the data conection is rock solid. I had connection issues with AA. I plan to try AA again to see it those bugs have been worked out.
If you compare light grey with pure black, you'll see that the light grey is brighter.
But when you compare the light grey with white, definitely the white will be brighter .
My point is, Just because American's is better than the rest it doesn't mean it's good .
At the end, it's just my opinion . Thanks for the thread
Hey Fake, excellent guide! This helps me to choose the one that fits me. Greatly appreciated your work.
