[CONFIRMED] --> *** X10A users: Android 2.1 Update works for X10a *** - XPERIA X10 General

We are all waiting for our country/operator specific update now that the Android 2.1 update has been officialy released for Nordic countries.
The aim of this thread is to exchange experiences and share news
for those of us who got the X10a hardware version
(850/1900MHz bands for some Australia, North America and Latin America operators)
If somebody with an X10a has already updated, please share if you got it straight from SEUS/PC Companion or by changing to a Nordic 1.6 first, and then updated to Nordic Android 2.1
A "Yes I just got 2.1" is now what we expect:
Please share as much info as possible
(method used to update, tested radio 3G connectivity, locale, operator/carrier, language, etc)
Let the fun begin
[EDIT NOV 04, 2010]
NAM 3G bands: CONFIRMED WORKING
Overwhelming feedback confirms both currently released Android 2.1 firmwares (Nordic and Global) DO WORK for the X10a.
jerpelea suggests Sony Ericcson may have unified the bands because the X10i firmware works on the X10a, 3G and all.
ENGLISH, SPANISH, PORTUGUES languages: CONFIRMED PRESENT
Source: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=824935
Released firmwares tested to date by xda-devs users:
- Nordic region Android 2.1 --> reported OK from many X10a users
- Global international Andoird 2.1 --> reported OK from many X10a users
- Notice: some users (espcially Rogers Canada) are reporting problems with 3G speeds (check next pages of this thread)
Where to obtain instructions and the Android 2.1 update firmware:
- 2.1 firmware "Nordic" and flasher by Bin4ry: (this is the one I used, a nice tutorial by user gfgodoy at post 3): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=825201
- 2.1 firmware "Global" and flasher by jerpelea: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=683793
- 2.1 firmware "Gobal" and flasher by MarylandCookie: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=825675
TIPS:
- Charge your phone, at least 50% prior to updating the firmware
- Extract the flashing tool into a folder in your root directory ("C:\")
- Make sure you put the firmware files into it ("C:\X10Flash-2.1\firmware")
- Make sure you have "SEUS" or "PC Companion" installed and you have connected your phone at least once (for it to install the USB drivers)
- For problems ("unable to open channel", "Exception in *** java", etc) plase check this nice thread by Bin4ry: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=823115
THE UPGRADE IS REVERSIBLE:
- If you test Android 2.1 and for some reason want to go back to Android 1.6 please check this thread by SaintyUK: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=824782
.

nobody yet ??

2.1 for x10a can be found in Dev thread. I'd do it but at work blah. Another 9 hours till home

Well, I will wait until TELCEL or Sony Ericsson México says something about the date of the release of the 2.1 update, if they don't say nothing or the date is about a month or later, I will use other methods...

could you please link ??
I can't seem to find a successful attempt
and all of our efforts are fragmentated into many threads

I just installed the X10i 2.1 on my x10a and rooted. It works fine except it occasionally loses 3g connectivity and steps down to the 'H' (I don't know what H means). But even in 'H' data works.
The big difference I noticed was the different apps loaded faster. But overall the system is still sluggish and bringing up the app menu is choppier than before. All the Sony stuff like Dialer, Mediscape, timescape are still choppy.
So I guess you will expect this on the x10a roms too.

H means HSDPA, which is better than 3G

which method did you use ??
I've been reading tons of threads
Was it from this thread ?? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=825201

This http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=825201 works brilliantly and easily.

I'm dying to install it but just got to work 2 and a half hours ago. Counting down the hours till I get home and install this bad boy!!

Yep it worked flawlessly. The Market that shows up for me is the Canadian one and it even gave me the option to run using English (Canada). So I guess that stuff does not depend on the rom.
You just have to make sure everything you need to flash is installed and running. Most people have problems with java but there is a link in there that tells you how to fix it.
Then I used this to root. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=824788

Information for default.prop & build.prop
I remember seeing information about changing the Build descriptors on both of theses files - Where you cahnge the values:
ro.semc.version.cust=XXXX-XXXX
ro.product.name=X10_XXXX-XXXX
Mine is running Generic LAM - 1227-4607
What is the build.prop number for Generic North America - Generic NAM???

Thanks for sharing experiences
Will go for it myself and update the front post when double-checked

I'm interested in how it works as well. I own an X10a, but I live in Europe, so I'm wondering if it would matter anyway. The smartest move would probably be to wait, but if it's going to be a matter of weeks instead of days, I may jump on the X10i update methods.

I have debranded X10a and rooted 1.6. I read your tutorial on forum. Just a question is this for X10a? Would my phone change to X10a or x10i? Is there any chance to brick the phone? Does it removes all the apps? And my root? Please let me know thanks
Sent from my X10a using Tapatalk

It works great for my X10a from Brazil.
Thanks everyone that made this possible.

Can't wait to give it a shot. Off work in 4 and a half hours and it could come soon enough!! LOL

Does this firmware includes SPANISH language????

Just want to mention that I too have updated my X10a using the methods described above (just follow the directions in post #3 of the 2.1 flashing thread).
I have tested, and root worked (have already restored many of my apps via Titanium and am posting this on my laptop tethered via Barnacle). Market works too, and appears to be displaying the Canadian market for me properly.
Thanks for the info everyone.

Official Update is on the Norway Support Page

I wonder when the rest will follow.
Version number is the same as the leaked one. The page doesn't accept the serial number I entered (perhaps because mine was a UK phone?). Can someone report whether there is any difference between this ROM and the leaked one?
Well I think this update is for Nordic only. It's at the danish site too

yeah but it only shows the general build number. the are more detailed numbers when you actually check out the build on the hero.
so somebody has to update the official rom and post the detailed build infos here.
It seems impossible to download the new image using firefox on linux. Is HTC so bent on MS products that they won't support downloads with a non-MS browser, or is the support-page just broken?

Hope not. I ditched windows 15 years ago and don't intend to install it anywhere just to be able to maintain a linux-device
Jokes aside, I believe it will be possible to extract an update.zip that can be installed the same way as MoDaCo's custom rom, although that method will remain unsupported by HTC.
will this update work with a non branded hero? being that the update is posted on the norway webpage
just installer the nordic, sweden update. awesome. Major difference in the entire feel of the OS.
Did it perform a system reset? Need to know whether I need to save my files or not.
yes it did, wiped everything on the phonememory. I used mybackup to back it all up.
What backup software did you use?
I have a SIM unlocked HTC Hero and i'm in the UK. Should I wait for the official UK ROM or just install the nordic one? Has anyone got any experience in installing the Nordic ROM to a non-nordic hero?
axe look the topic above you
Mybackup is great to back up everything (except scenes).

Official Android 2.1 is Finally there!

"We will start on June 4 to provide upgrades to 2.73.751.13..."
Um.. sorry if this is a dumb question, but my Hero's version is 2.73.405.5 and that's the latest ROM Version according to htc.com/europe/
so.. is that version getting the update or is it just the 2.73.751.13 the Taiwanese version and 2.73.405.5 the European one and both are practically the same?
Hooraaay for 2.1 (party)
Update consists of series of binary patches, so probably it won't apply to anything but 2.73.751.13

It upgrades to (Android 2.1 3.31.751.1) from 2.73.751.13 OTA.
It's doubtful you'll be able to use the image as is from another ROM. But rooted users should be able to use a repacked version with no problem. It comes with a new radio, so care would have be taken to make sure there is no funkiness with current engineering SPLs.
now just need patient to wait for cooked rom
hi. im newbie and haven't root my hero. my hero is firmware singapore version.2.73.707.9 can i upgrade my
hero with this? or i should wait for south east asia version roll out? thanks.
sorry for.noob question...
sorry to say that you must have a taiwan version phone to update
First update to 2.73 will probably include some patches for the OTA client.
Not wanting to put a downer in this but haven't htc always told us we'll see a small ota update before the offical update to 2.1.
This sounds like it's taking them direct to 2.1
Well in Europe it looks like we have currently to wait, but there are another News about the OTA-UPdate on the European Site for Legend and Bravo :

Hi , this is my first post im new here, Ive got 2 Heros coming from the UK, one is unlocked but the other is on T-mobile, both are running 1.5 android
Can someone point out to me the steps involved to Root both these devices and transfer a Custom htc hero 2.1 android Firmware to them......
Im used to flashing nokias and iphones but this android is totally new to me so i want to do it properly.
Thanks for any help or links to the things i need and topics on this
P.s Or do people recormmend just updating though HTC Site ? ( although i wud want 2.2 on these when ever that becomes avail ) hehe
Thanks peeps
Its about time this update came out. I don't see why the Droid Eris got the update months ago yet the GSM Hero has take so much longer. This is the reason I sold my Hero and got a Desire.

---- ****** Using 2.3.3 rooted firmware ****** ----
As per jpmwright http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16281837&postcount=126
I found that I couldn't use xRecovery on my phone with Docomo firmware. So you may need to reflash your phone for 2.1 firmware and re-root it.
So sync/backup all the data you want from your current rooted phone including any Docomo specific apps, for apps I recommend using Titanium backup from the Market.
Follow the guide here to get back to a generic 2.1 firmware: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920746
I used "FlashTool version 0.2.8" and "X10i Generic version 2.1update1 build 2.1.A.0.435"
You should now be on 2.1 generic firmware with root.
Now to get to X10i 2.3.3 rooted firmware follow: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192152
After you have completed your phone will be a X10i 2.3.3 rooted phone with generic setting, so for your APN settings use the info from post 1.
(BTW for NTT Docomo, voicemail access number is 1417, vm off is 1470, vm on is 1471)
So now you can use your phone, but you will no longer have access to Docomo Market nor SO-1B apps.
To gain access again, you will have to modify build.prop using FlashTool, Root Explorer or other tools, the file location of build.prop is in flash at /system/build.prop
I noticed this time I had to modify more occurance of build.prop in order for it work or Docomo Market or Market.
Docomo Market does not look at the ro.build.fingerprint properties, but is needed for Android Market.
ro.build.fingerprint, you may wish to comment out the current value with a #
so you can swith between the two identity.
my build.prop modification below:
ro.semc.product.model=SO-01B
ro.build.product=SO-01B
ro.product.name=SO-01B_1241-1846
ro.product.device=SO-01B

ro.product.model=SO-01B
ro.semc.product.name=SO-01B
ro.semc.product.device=SO-01B
ro.product.brand=docomo

Nordic 2.1 on SO-01B.
The only method I managed to get my Jailbroken 1.6 UK Generic firmware SO-01B updated to 121. Nordic was to use the method from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=825201
Phone rooted fine with http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=824788
Do use the "Backup and restore" app, so you can restore your APN settings, alot of the other settings didn't restore which was a bit of a shame. (e.g. google/twitter account etc.)
"Official" Docomo Market from 1.5 firmware fails to work, obviously due to new browser user agent ID.

Mixi plugin I suspect you need to modify Timescape configuration or replace with the Japanese apk. (I didn't find it useful, so I haven't tired playing around with it.) Nothing happens if you install it on the UK firmware.
I got apk by using the older rooting methods, as they were based on the SO-01B firmware. I shall not post the apk, since I don't want Docomo knocking on my door
I tried extracting the system.img using the decrypted roms, but was unable to to.
So basically root your SO-01B using the earlier methods, backup all the apk and then re-root using the latest method. Yeah long winded.
reconnecting to ntt docomo 3g
Hi everyone, I'm new here. Special thanks goes out to Bin4ry and all the other great folks who made the root possible. I managed to root my phone and everything looks great now. I live in Japan and have a SO-01B, so I need to reconnect to NTT Docomo. I read a post from Bin4ry in another thread, and I almost responded to it there, but I thought maybe we could get all the SO-01B centralized in this thread. I can't link yet, but it is in the thread title called "Root on SO01b R1EA025?" He says that SO-01B users need to
...change the model name in /system/*.prop files.
simply pull it with adb, edit on your PC the model names and then push it back!
after reboot your name will have changed.
but be careful only edit the names nothing more
Regards
Bin4ry

Cool, that gives me connection (as in I can see the 3g logo) but when I try to connect, I get an error. Do you have all the apn settings?
**EDIT** I had a typo, that works great now!
root problem: device not found
hi all. it seems like all of you already got root. i was wondering which version of the rooting directions did you use? i am tried using the root_f3v1 and root_f3v2 files and instructions and always got a "device not found" error on step 2. i installed SEUS and PC Companion from the Sony Ericsson site. did you use the downloads from Sony Ericsson or the cd that came with the phone?
actually all i had to do was update PC Companion then everything worked!
2.1 Nordic firmware worked fine on SO-01B and NTT.
Updated with some info, see the beginning of this thread.
I managed to update to 2.1 fine, my APN is working etc. However, I can not for the life of me get my Japanese input to work :/ Input keeps on defaulting to the "default keyboard".
Is there any workaround for this?

There hasn't been a need to update the fingerprint setting for "protected" apps. I suspect because there are quiet a few offical Japanese Android phone on Softbank/AU etc.. that they have stopped checking.
Hmm. With Softbank's entire (AMAZING) lineup on 2.2, I'm holding out hope that Docomo's working on it for the Xperia. Otherwise, they should probably stop selling it...
Anyway, Monday should bring an annoucement.
If I were to bother updating now, does the SP-mode app work well? The latest update killed notifcations, so I have no clue when I get an email anymore, unless I check the widget.

I haven't tried SP-mode, since I'm using i-mode.net with iMoNi. So if someone knows please respond. But I read else where other people have updated and install SP-mode app without any problem.
I don't get why they have two products. I stuck with i-mode.net since I can read my i-mode email on any browser etc.
Because SP-mode is instant push email with full native support, whereas i-mode.net is just a way to view i-mode mail on devices other than a phone.
You can have both services, and they compliment each other.
Kanjis with partial Chinese characters
are starting to bug me after testing the nordic firmware. I'm assuming Docomo's firmware should not have this problem, but does anyone know / have any advice on getting around this problem?
I'm now trying to flash global...
Just wait until Wednesday, Docomo's releasing the update then, with PO Box 3.0.
I can't wait for the update this Wednesday, but I have a quick question; ok, maybe three.
It could be lack of understanding, but atm, I don't really understand that need for debranding a headset. I had an iPhone before I purchased the Xperia, and never even considered debranding. So with that said...
What benefit is there to debranding your phone?
Is the thinking similar to installing a vanilla copy of windows on a new PC so you can avoid, potentially resource heavy apps that the distributor wanted to include?
By debranding, do you risk not being able to use that specific carrier's network to the fullest?
Thanks. Just curious.
Thanks for your feedback, iead1. Was wondering how I'm going to survive without being able to type my own name. Anxious for Wed.

I feel your pain.. Still nothing on Orange UK either.
I emailed Orange to ask if they could tell me when it would be released, got this reply:-
"Thank you for your email regarding your Samsung handset.
I am sorry to learn that you are unaware of our process regarding firmware updates for Orange phones. Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience this has caused.
I would like to advise that Orange customers are not able to obtain firmware updates direct from Samsung themselves, this is due to the Orange branding that you have on your phone that allows you to use this on our network.
Please find below a link to our website where you are able to check in the future if an update via Orange has been released.
http://www2.orange.co.uk/servlet/Sa...96364420640&product=Feature&t=Product&tabid=1
Be aware that your handset may not be available on the listings until if or when an update is released.
When a new update is made available by a handset manufacturer they will pass a version of this to Orange so that we can run the required tests to confirm that this update they have released will co-exist with the Orange branding that you are required to use on your phone.
It is possible that the new update that is released may not co-exist with the Orange branding and thus we will not be able to release the update for the Samsung Galaxy, if they can not co-exist and we were to release this to your phone, this could effectively be detrimental to your handset and Orange will not process for this reason.
If the update version can not co-exist with the Orange branding then we will wait for Samsung to release a new update to which we will restart the testing process accordingly.
Be aware that it is not possible to advise of any estimated timescale for the testing of this update by Orange, furthermore, we can not guarantee that an update will be released at all regarding the Samsung Galaxy as the updates that could be released may never work alongside the Orange branding on the phone.
Because some of this information is speculative and based on situations regarding the testing of updates that may or may not ever be released by Samsung and the time it takes to complete the testing of the new updates, please accept my sincere apologies that we can not be more specific regarding your query.
As with the current Android update it has been released via an Over-The-Air format, this may be the situation for the the next available update, but this method we will not be able to confirm until the update is valid for Orange UK handset users when it has been released.
Please be advised that the answers to many common queries can be found in the Frequently Asked Questions section in the Help and Support option on the Home page of our website.
www.orange.co.uk
I trust this information clarifies your query"

Could u tell us: pda, phone and CSC versions please ?
I would be grateful, cuz I'm waiting for O2 FW just for the APN settings and for future updates.
If I update to XEU Froyo version now can I update to O2 Froyo version when they decide to release it?
Just thinking about warranty etc...

You can always change back to what you need via Odin if you're comfortable with that. If not, wait for official Kies update or you'll have lots of work to do.

I just reformatted my computer so i cant plug my phone into kies at the moment caus i havent reinstalled it yet. I can tell you what my phone says though
Model : GT-I9000
Firmware 2.2
Baseband Version : I9000XXJP
Kernel Version : 2.6.32.9 [email protected] #1
Build number : Froyo.XXJPO
Regards Jim
JPO from samfirmware sets product code to xxkor :/
While they claim that it is europian firmware, so ... and does not have cz/sk swype. I have backup of some important files so ot is not prob, but better is to be pattient and wait for official froyo. This is my advice for ordinary peoples.

I am happy to use Odin and don't mind the effort but are there actual O2 ROMs around that I can flash back onto the device later if needed?
Also will flashing an XEU ROM change my product code?

i'm O2 SGS user uk, updated my sgs last night to JPA via kies, didn't need reg edit hack... had jp6 (via kies using reg edit) previously. was available since 15/11/10 @ 2100 GMT, recommend rooting SGS via pc and OCLF, quad score before was 980 after was 1800.
much more solid compared to JP6.... need to fully test it but why you reading this get the new firmware!!!
forgot to add, needed to click the update firmware button more then once as i think the server which you download JPA from is quite busy, it is there though, thank goodness i don't need to deal with kies for a while!

Bell/Virgin Froyo Update

Any word yet if/when Bell/Virgin will be rolling out 2.2 to Canadian users?
If I don't get it relatively soon I'll probably root. Is that more difficult to do with the Bell build?
Any suggestions from rooted Bell users?
No word yet. Canadian carriers suck at issuing updates in a timely fashion. I rooted my Legend over the summer and installed the Vodafone 2.2 build recently with no problems. For the root, you'll need to downgrade to the 1.31 RUU before you can successfully root.
Hi,
I wrote to Virgin Mobile support on November 30 and I got the following answer:
Hi there - HTC is currently working on this update and we're hoping to have it within the next couple months. We'll keep you guys up-to-date online. Stay tuned!
Lots of Love,
Virgin Mobile

I made a thread about this over at howardforums. somebody responded saying Virgin is working on it and they expect it to be out in January, and if there are any delays, early February.
I got tired of waiting for Virgin to come out with Froyo, so I rooted and flashed Cyanogen on my Legend and couldn't be happier. There is a bug with voicemail notifications, but I'm sure that will be fixed soon.
When (and IF) Virgin has an update, I'll do it on my wifes phone, but the added features that Cyanogen gives is well worth it.

That's pretty brutal. I love my Legend, but I really regret buying it from Bell. I've had nothing but bad experiences with them.
Which rooting guide has the most success with the Legend?
I'm fairly new to this, so I'll have to do my homework before attempting a root.
Maybe a good December project.
i work for virgin mobile and own the legend myself.
I ask my DM, and manger almost weekly about the update only to hear that they have no idea.
I call technical support (store line/regular line) and no one there knows either.
I also check our daily updates.. daily. Only to find nothing about the legend day after day.
I've been holding my breath for the update, but i don't suggest you do the same.
Unbrand your phone by installing the WWE version and you will probably get the update faster than Bell or Telus.
Hopefully it's coming Monday.
--io
The update is likely only days away so i suppose it's a funny time to ask about debranding.
My main issue is that I don't know what rom to use from the shipped roms website... a little bit of a text explanation would be great.
I still don't know what RUU means... or what WWE is... and i've been actively doing some reading on the subject.
Any advice would be appreciated!
Thanks!
go to the wiki!!!! everything is there!!!!
Haha, that post was actually quite useful
RUU = Rom update utility
WWE = World Wide English
So all I have to do is pick the most recent WWE version and I'm good to go?
I got annoyed with the flip-flopping and waited until after the halfway mark in the month. I've rooted my phone and it works perfectly.
I found that Blayo's ROM to run extremely well on the Legend.
Sorry for bumping it again ( I've been monitoring this thread and everytime i see it bumped up, it gives me hope... but only to find out we are all asking the same thing ... WHEN?!!)
Since BELL discontinued the Legend, does this mean when (if?) Virgin releases the OTA update, BELL users like me will get the same VIRGIN update as well show up on our phone?
The post about updating it with the WWE version... if i understand it correctly, the steps are:
1. Create a gold card... i saw a thread about a manual (albeit complicated for the non-techno geek.. ) way and an automated way using a software someone wrote
2. Run the latest WWE that has been posted (this is supposed to debrand our phone so that we can "see" the SOftware Update for WWE, right)
3. Check the Software Update on the phone and i should see the Fryoyo Update. ( I assume if we apply update, the ROM Update (data) it will download on the phone will be billable...or count as your data usage)
Does this sound about right?
I'm keeping this update via WWE as my last option if the OTA does not see the light of day...for us BELL users..
At this point, i'd say it's 70/30 that bell does not get the update. Just because as you've said, it's a discontinued phone for bell. with a small install base.
Hopefully Virgin/Bell decide to push it to bell sets. I'm not sure if they'd have to prepare two versions for that though. From what i understand, we're only a few days away from finding out.
It's funny, Bell Discontinued the Legend because they couldn't keep them in stock due to HTC having a lack of stock because the Amoled screen wasn't being produced fast enough. hence why they switch to a different screen for the Legend. Most people think it was just old or selling poorly when in fact those are both false.

There was noise about an update in Mid-Jan from Virgin, Bell as far as I remember has discontinued support and it's unlikely that there's going to be an update. You won't get the OTA update unless Bell releases it. I'm rather dissapointed with the promises that keep being broken for our rather expensive service... Root your 'phone.
The procedure is :
Create a Goldcard. As you mentioned there's very easy to follow guides out there.
Downgrade your phone to an earlier version of the software. This permits rooting your phone.
Root your phone. This will allow you to install a ROM other than the Carrier's ROM.
Install either a stock ROM (WWE) or a custom ROM.
As I mentioned in my previous post, I am using Blayo's ROM, which is almost identical to the stock FroYo ROM, but with a few tweaks that just make the phone feel nicer. I would reccomend looking into some of the other ROMs as well. You may find something you like. Android's about choice and this is one great advantage of rooting your 'phone.

I'm gonna give it up to the end of Jan and if there are no updates, i'll definitely go this way... im out of space to install anything else... angry birds and talking tom are taking so much space... had to remove my talking tom to install some smaller apps.
On Facebook, the guy from Virgin told that they had problems with the update so they are doing more testing...
If you want to be up to date, I really suggest you to root your phone and try a rom. You won't lose any functions on your phone and you'll never have to wait again.

Hello there, i'm new to this flashing ROM, rooting and stuff...
In your post, it sounds easy, create a golden-SD (follow the guides), downgrade and update the WWE...
i got lost on the second step... how do you downgrade the phone? I have a VM legend 2.1 w/ update 1 and seems like VM is not giving out the update. I'm thinking going your way but don't know how to downgrade the phone.
Please advise.
Thanks in advance.
