Why is my aria automatically underclocking itself everytime I lock my phone?
Sent from my HTC Liberty using XDA App
Since we're on the subject, does anybody know what mHz the arias cpu underclocks to when its screen locked/screen off (with NO music player or calls or anything like that going)?
245Mhz if I'm not mistaken.

Just to confirm. My CPU stats show:
245.76 mhz 74% of the time
480 mhz 20% of the time
600 mhz 6% of the time

Because it saves battery and tries to keep the battery maintained at a constant temperature. Your phone works through the "ondemand" mechanism...when ever you need more processing power, your phone will work up to that mHz.

It stays at 245 unless I overclock it back to 600, then when I locked it it went back to 245 and kept doing the same thing.
I had to uninstall setcpu and restart my phone and its fine now

i got setcpu also and i did a long benchmark it says 5628ms and lower is faster , what that means? and whats overclocking? how do i use this app to make my battery longer im on fw 026.
my profile settings are:
charging ac/full 998 max 245 min ondemand
charging usb/full same as above
screenoff 384max 245 min ondemand priority 50
battery <30% same as screenoff
are these good settings am i missing something?
It means your phone needed 5628 ms to calculate something. The less time it takes, the faster your phone...
There's a thread somewhere on the best settings for max battery, but lower settings make your phone slower...

I have been using Ultimate Juice defender and it seems to be working well I guess. Is there a better option? If you use UJD what settings do you use?
Root and use "SetCPU".

That's what I use, I have profiles set to underclock the CPU when the screen is off or when the battery life falls to a certain percent
What's a strait forward guide to using set CPU.

Here is the official setCPU documentation: http://www.pokedev.com/setcpu/
I am using the Adrynalyne Custom Kernal (v2) which defaults the cpu governor to Conservative in setCPU. For my setCPU profile, I only have one entry that underclocks to the slowest speed when the screen is off.
I have it set to run at conservative from 600 so mhz at 50%, 300 at 25% and powersave and lowest clock setting when the screen is off on powersave.
I'm running the latest frankenrom and using adr's experimental battery kernel

i'm trying to run setcpu on my phone but everytime i set a profile it never kicks in and i set a default of 384/786 but phone still clocks out at max use according to my system panel. i'm using stock kernal so i dunno if that has anything to do with it........

I would make sure you have preflock disabled in the menu.

Currently at 102.2F as reported by setcpu widget while plugged in and using it for the past half hour or so. Seems kinda high to me, what's everyone elses experience?
Sent from my DROID2 using XDA App
Well when its plugged in it will be warmer than normal. Right now my phone has been on with constant texting and random other usage all day long and I am at 80.6 degrees
My phone stays in the mid 90s and early 100s with regular use. It only gets in the 80s if I leave it completely alone for an hour or so.

I stay mostly in the 80s and can get into the 90s with heavy use. Don't think I've ever passed 100, but there's a chance something like psx4droid could have pushed me up. I average about 86F.

Do you use the SetCPU profiles? You could set one to underclock the processor while charging.

I do, its set to 800mhz when charging. 600mhz if it gets above 104F regardless of charging or not. Leaving it alone on the charger for the last half hour the temp shows 92F. Just firing up Xda app and typing this out the temp has jumped to 98F in about a min of use.

Are you guys using SetCPU for profiles and overclocking, or are you just using it for checking temps and current speed?
These are the droids you are looking for.

I was using it to check temps for this but I use 2 profiles, which may help my temps (def helps my batt). The default profile is 1000 max, 300 min, on demand. The other is when my screen is shut off, 300 max, 300 min. I've found this has saved me a pretty sizeable chunk of battery. I tend to listed to music 7-8 hours a day and while it doesnt need full CPU it will use it if it gets the chance. Restricting the proc to 300 off has never caused any issues and I can get from 8am - 4 or 5pm staying over 70% battery I have the unstable apps overclock and used it for a while, but kinda came to the conclusion that I can't really justify needing to overclock yet as I never see any lag. I guess if I run into any lag at some point I'll prob clock back up to 1.3 or so.

I did overclock, but it ran way too hot, like 107F during normal use and didnt get below 100 dormant. 1gig is high enough to me. I have it set to underclock when charging or when below 50% battery or when above 104F.

Only other idea I have is downloading Droid Overclock and try running at low or ultra low voltage. Make sure to make a backup first. And try low before ultra low. Individual devices can be picky about a lower voltage and can go into a bootloop if it can't run on a lower voltage. Droid Overclock has profiles like SetCPU.

So I was trying to mess around with CPU profiles and I noticed that the low end of the CPU is clocked at 1GHz. If I lower it with Rom Toolbox, it just goes right back up after I leave the menu. the profiles won't stick, governors don't make a difference, and I'm a little confused.
Can someone shed some light on this for me?
I thought the lowest speed was 384 MHz? Install CPU Spy and check what it says.
It is 384MHz. The lower frequency change because of project butter that make the cpu run at a higher frequency when you touch the screen.

Dont you need a custom kernal in order to change the clock speeds?
sent via xda premium with nexus 7
No, we can already change it but it won't stick since it has its own frequency management.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Is this somewhat similar to perflocker in HTC devices? It had to be disabled to change any cpu settings AT ALL with the stock kernel.

You're right. I guess it just has its own profile to set at 1GHz when the screen is on, because the CPU Spy showed it in Deep Sleep/384Mhz for the majority of the night.
test1
Is it ok for me to have a task in Tasker that changes the governor everytime the phone sleeps and wakes? Is that harmful to my device?
not sure about if it's dangerous or not but I am curious a to why you would want to... sleep is sleep not much of anything happening to warrant a change

Well, I've found that my battery lasts a lot longer when the powersave governor is on, even while in sleep. When the screen is on I have it change to ondemand so i get a nice smooth UI. When in sleep with ondemand on, it drains faster than when I have powersave on and have it clocked to 288000 MHz.

You have it clocked at 28.8 GHz? Pretty sure you're going to melt your phone. (I kid)
I believe he meant 288 GHz. He's from the future and is trolling us.

Totally fine, but you might encounter stability problems.
Lol. My bad, was just copying what Trickster Mod said.. :/ I have the min at 288 MHz so when power save is on it underclocks to that.
I just don't want to screw up the hardware by jumping back and forth between ondemand and powersave.
