BUMP for you. I've been wondering about this same thing. What have you tried so far? AFAIK your options are to SAPPIMG it or to root and use rom manager.

Hboot (volume down and power) the sappimg.nbh file that will take u back to stock
Sent from my HTC Magic SparksMod using XDA App

Tried SAPPIMG, it tells me something about the version being newer?
Also tried an OTA 1.6 update in recovery, it just says invalid signature. I've been tiring to root but I can't find a way that gives me a permanent root, I can achieve a soft root only.
thanks for your input guys

I managed to down grade the official ota to 1.5. I see that you tried to use the SAPPIMG so I am including the entire back story:
First off, I had the official ota 2.2.1, which I had downloaded and flashed manually from XDA posts. I had it rooted using the superoneclick method.
I DO NOT recommend this next part: I messed up by using rom manager to try to flash clockwork recovery. It was sloooow, so I knew something had gone wrong. I thought I had broke it, 'cause it would not go into recovery mode after that!
Here's what you should try: In my "controlled panic" I flashed the original 1.5 rom found here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=DQWW0Y9N
This got me to 1.5 and then applied the updates to 1.6. I used universal androot to root and flashed the new recovery using rom manager. Then I flashed CM6.1 RC1.
I hope this helps.

[Q] Can't Install Custom Roms after using TBH 2.2 SBF

First off, I am very familiar with Custom Roms and Never had this problem before.
I had to use the 2.3.13 SBF bc I was in a boot loop from a theme. I am rooted again using rageagainstthecage and can access the ClockworkMod recovery. I have tried multiple times to install 2.3.15 deodexed from the TBH app with no success. ClockworkMod says the install was successful but under system info it states it is 2.3.13. I know that it is 2.3.13 odexed bc Tranquility causes a boot loop. Backup and Restore work fine but not zip files. Does anyone know why it will not install?
I think I just experienced the same thing. Had to use the same sbf last night. This morning I tried to install zapx and seems like nothing happened and I was back at stock. Also I cant get back into clockwork recovery.

You probably need to bootstrap the system again using the koush's app, to get back into recovery.
I installed ZapX but I had network issues with the market. So i reverted using a backup.
I was able to get clockwork back and install a different rom and the rom took this time. Rubix .5 to be exact.
good news- full 2.2 sbf is available now. there are links in x development.
thanks but i think they removed the thread ?

[Q] Running CM6 RC1 but I have S-ON???

first off, any help here is gladly appreciated....
As the thread title states.... I'm running CM6 RC1 on my G2...
But for some odd reason , Signature Verification is on (S-ON)
Can someone guide me or help restore this back to (S-OFF)
- Please don't ask how this happened cause I don't know how it happened myself.
I made a nandroid like 2 days ago and was restoring to it through clockwork mod and now it's on. Something must of went wrong along the way or I must of clicked something by mistake.
Without signature verification being off, I cannot revert to the Stock ROM or restore the original recovery image.
Can u still temp root?

try re-writing the hboot like you did when you originally rooted the phone. as long as you can su you should be able to put it back
I had a similar issue when I had paul's rom and tried to flash the stock rom over it. I had to use hex editior to restore the stock rom and I just rooted. I applied all my goods afterwards and it's been fine since. The problem occured when I tried to flash the stock rom over the paul's which is a big no no.

why stuck on modaco??

hello all, i recently installed clockwork3.0 to try out the cm7 rom and did so. afer that i wanted to go back to cm6 but decided to try out a custom baked modaco in between. I went no problems to the modaco vision rom and then tried to go back to the cm6 and thats where i ran into the problem. It seems as if though all i can flash and boot now is the modaco vision and desire roms. i try enomther and cm and after the flash and reboot im always stuck at the HTC boot screen which i know shouldnt be there and cant format boot in cwork3.0 without failure error. Even a nandroid back to cm6 wont work. Im assuming this has something to do with the modaco rom writing some apps to /system during install. If anyone can point out my error or explain why this could happen it would be greatly appreciated. Thanke, veritasaequita
You need to flash back to the old ClockworkMod Recovery using fastboot? You have done that haven't you? CWM Recovery 3 is only for 2.3 roms atm afaik.
Cool, thanks for the input bro. Yes I sure have. I did see in the dev forum a thread titled install cw3.0 easily from phone. Is it possible to go back to the old cw by way of using the phone also? Once again thanks for your help
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
oh yeah, indeed you have hit upon something. Try installing ROM manager via the Market,... then use that to re-install the old recovery.
But if that fails,... then yes, you SHOULD be able to use a Terminal Emulator to flash without using fastboot commands.

Reset my incredible!

Ok so I am having some serious issues with my phone. I have rooted it before the 2.2 update was out for the incredible and I have messed around with it since. I have used unrEVOked's s-off patch and because of it now my phone will not do a couple of things. The system update keeps bothering me to update but when i tell it to do so it fails to restart. Also the My Verizon app doesn't work at all, it fails to recognize my phone (surprise surprise). My phone currently works fine as a phone and data device but those things really bother me and I want to get it back to a factory image. When I go to switch the S-ON with Clockwork Recovery, as I select the update.zip file that switches the S-ON the screen goes black and resets to the menu. I have no idea what to do from here. Does anyone have any ideas?
You need to use the unrevoked s-on tool if you want to go back.
See the faq section at this link.
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/forever
Also, if you've flashed a custom rom you'll need to install an ruu to get back to stock.
Do a lot of reading first and proceed at your own risk!

I am just going to restate that in using the S-ON tool clockworkmod recovery resets and goes back to the main menu. That was the other problem that I could not even use RUU's to reset my phone. It won't even recognize it attached
Sorry. Sounds like you have issues beyond my ability.

I gave that a shot, but unfortunately after following each step i came to the same problem that it will not apply the S-ON.zip file in clockworkmod recovery. DAH! I think i messed it up pretty bad.

Just curious. What radio are you on? I remember reading somewhere that S-Off and on don't support the 9-1 + radios. And what clockworkmod version are you on?

I am using 2.15.00.07.28. Following the guide linked in a previous post on this thread, I changed it to this to make S-ON work but to no avail. I assume i have the latest clockworkmod because i just barely reflashed it with unrevoked. It is vers. 2.5.1.2
Have you tried the official one posted here?

It looks like they have updated it for the new radios. And the one on the guide might be an older version.

You will need to go back to a stock recovery in order to get the VZW OTA to work
the lack of that recovery will make the phone update fail to reboot.

Yeah I gave that a shot when I was trying the guide posted previously. It reset my recovery to stock but when it tried doing the OTA it still failed to reboot. I'll try using the latest S-ON tool. Worked!! Wow! I have never got this far. Now lets see if it solves the problem...
Out of curiosity why even bother going back to stock? You could have most likely fixed all of your issues just by flashing a newer rom.

cannot load recovery.img

hi folks,
I got a htc magic a while ago, it had the original 1.6 Android.
I wanted to try a custom rom, so I found the website theUnlockr and followed some instructions there.
I managed to do the gold card method and get a hero rom on my phone.
Ok.
I didn't know that hero was actually based on 1.5 -> fail.
So I had some time yesterday and tried to first go back to 1.6, without all that htc sense crap.
I found this website. Awesome!
Doing this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Sapphire_Hacking
it all went well until I had to load the custom recovery rom, which didn't work.
But at that moment I realized that I still had the custom rom on the phone from my previous activities.
Next thing:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=576768
I jsut got myself the update.zip from the htc website linked there and applied it.
It worked like a charm. I have the old 1.6 which runs smoothly.
However, it wasn't as good as before anymore (some apps don't work on 1.6 anymore, like google goggles and kindle app) -> fail again.
So I wanted to get a newer version of android running.
Back to the wiki tutorial!
This time, I realized that I had a standard recovery back as well.
"Android system recovery"
reading at the bottom of the screen:
"E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command"
Is this bad? I have no clue.
It also gives me the option to aply an update.zip, do I need the custom recovery at all?
I made a backup with Nandroid recovery, which I couldn't use then.
I cannot put a custom recovery on the phone. (fastboot boot recovery.img)
When I try to, adb tells me:
"cannot load recovery.img"
fail.
Where recovery.img is the renamed recovery file from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=530492
I used:
recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.7.0G.img
because I have a 32B phone.
What the heck is going on? Why does it refuse to load the recovery?
I didn't find any thread regarding this problem. =(
fyi fastboot:
Sapphire Pvt 32B Eng S-Off H
HBoot 1.33.2005 (Sapp10000)
CPLD 10
Radio 2.22.19.261
the fastboot information states "H" so I'm not sure if I chose the correct recovery img.
tl;dr
What causes the problem that "fastboot boot recovery.img" fails to load the recovery file?
Do I need a custom recovery?
With the above device specifications, am I correctly choosing "recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.7.0G.img"?
Did I fail at anything else?
Thanks guys.

If both of you are on stock, I. recommend rooting using Universal Androot, then installing Rom Manager to flash a custom recovery.
EDIT: To get Androot, Google it on your phone, and then download and install it. Rom Manager is available in the market.
Keep me posted!
Sent from my Sapphire/dream using XDA App
thanks, I got the Rom manager, which tells me that I do not have root.
That's confusing. How did I lose root? I thought I had root through the gold card method.
Edit:
I went for androot and it worked like a charm.
When I start rom manager it doesn't complain about the missing root.
So that's done.
However, when I try to load a custom recovery with rom manager, it tells me that an error occured.
Roughly translated:
"while performing a privileged command an error occured"
It's also strange that it sometimes asks me for my device type (either "magic" or "ION") and sometimes just does nothing.
I'm still stuck with the inability to get the recovery image on the phone =(
Edit²: I tried the "fix permissions" thing but it fails with the same error
At this point you should probably try to flash the alternate recovery at the bottom of Rom Manager(AmonRa).
Sent from my Sapphire/dream using XDA App
thanks a lot!
the problem was that I did not install the superuser.
This way, the rom manager failed.
So I got CM 6.1 which works great.
However, there are no Google apps. (all I need is the market really)
So I went for the CM wiki: (cannot post links so I inserted a space)
wiki. cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Latest_Version/Google_Apps
I have a magic, so I took the "tiny" version for "CyanogenMod 6".
Now I have all the google apps, but NO market!?
When I visit the market website (via pc) my phone does not show up.
How do I get the market back?
Do you still have Rom Manager? If you do, you can flash CM with GAPPS through it.

I have it still installed, but it crashes when I try to view the available roms.
It asks me to update it before it dies. (I don't knwo how to do that without the market)
And again: I did install the google apps for CM (see link) so I'm confused as to why there was no market included.
Itried downloading the market as a separate apk file but it crashed on whatever I did with it after opening it.
Can you reflash the CM rom(without using Rom Manager)? If you can, then we can download RM again, update it, then reflash CM again, with GAPPS. I know this is tedious, but it has the highest chance of working.
Sent from my Sapphire/dream using XDA App
Thought of another way to get the market. Do you have a file manager on your phone as of right now? If you do, then I can attach the vending.apk(market) from my phone. If you don't, I can probably find an apk for a free file manager as well.
EDIT: It probably crashed because it installed in the wrong place. Look here: http://www.google.com/m/url?client=ms-android-hms-tmobile-us&ei=9gcaTojwO-KkiAKKmZ6EAw&gl=us&hl=en&q=http://www.pocketmagic.net/?p%3D1447&source=android-browser-type&ved=0CD4QFjAH&usg=AFQjCNENw-_9QWgtW_j3UgDiv14Fa-PCyA

reflashing the Rom seems to be the way to go.
I was curious how some apps for this newer android version would perform, so I installed the flashplayer apk.
Surprisingly, after rebooting, the system was ****ed up and stayed in a loop in the CM boot animation.
So I have to redo the system anyway.
The Rom manager is not too great for me, because I have no wifi here.
CM was kinda cool. I think to bypass the whole gapps problem, I could simply get the standard android 2.2 froyo Rom?
But there are only custom ROMs as it seems. what do you recommend?
Edit: crap. when I flash the CM Rom again, the boot keeps looping =(
You could try out GingerYoshi. Its gingerbread, so it shouldn't have compatibility issues with flash player. Just make sure you have the right radio.

I don't want flash.
I know it won't run fast on a magic. I mean 512Mhz, I don't expect anything else.
I just wanted to know how bad it actually would be.
Games are generally nothing I want on my phone. (which is one reason why I got myself this old phone)
So, that aside, how do I get rid of the boot loop?
Will this be fixed when I flash a different ROM?
Actually, GingerYoshi is extremely fast, as you can overclock, turn on JIT, and modify compcache settings right from the options. I think the bootloop should fix itself if you flash back to stock.

Sorry for the delay, I didn't have time...
I tried to flash the old original Google ION 1.6 that I had before.
(putting the zip on the SD, booting recovery (clockwork), installing the zip from there)
This doesn't work. An assertion fails:
The assertions checks if either "ro.product.device" or "ro.build.product" are equal to "saphire".
This happens even if I disable the assertions. =(
I think the phone got set to be "ION" after I installed this Rom the first time.
How do I fix this?
UPADATE:
I got back to ra recovery.
I could flash the rom for 1.6
However, there's still the bootloop.
How do I get rid of the loop?
Ok, at this point, I think we should go back to stock and then reroot. Under the mytouch development board, there should be a thread for the officials RUUs. Go there and flash the correct rom to get back to stock.

Oh sorry. I didn't mention it: this 1.6 is an official rom.
It is the standard google android without any custom things.
That's why I was a little scared when even that got stuck in the boot loop.
However, I booted to recovery again and from there, rebooted the system.
And it worked! (for whatever reason)
The system was not working perfectly.
There's this bar where you can quickly turn wifi, bluetooth, etc. on and off and this didn't work.
I rebooted again now and the flaws are gone.
I'm back on 1.6 running smoothly now.
I had a look at the thread with the official stuff.
I have the 1.6 from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=576768
I found via a link from the wiki page for the magic (as I said earlier).
It is something "official".
I'm a little confused now as to what is the real "official" Rom.
That is the rom for the Google ion(dev phone) ported to the 32b. A RUU is the true "official" rom as it is carrier specific.
