Thought I would share this in case anyone else is seeing this issue. I'm running stock, never rooted, with LauncherPro.
I was having an issue with the music player hiccuping. One-by-one, I turned off wi-fi, weather channel widget, digital clock widget, power widget, and battery widget. Removing the gauge battery widget fixed it - I verified this by adding it back in again. I uninstalled this widget, re-added everything else back in, and it's still good.
So if your music player is skipping, try fooling around with the widgets!
yeah i noticed that today...it's annoying, thx btw.
Yep. Seems like the music players, I'm using Winamp beta, don't like the polling the battery meters are doing. My battery meter is BattStatt and I have been seeing the same issue.
Thank you for taking the time to narrow it down! I've been cussing my phone for this audio problem for some time haha!
Wait... So all Fascinates have this issue? I have the same problem and am getting a replacement phone from Amazon. Are you saying that my replacement phone will have skipping music? I'm not using any battery widgets and my phone is completely stock. I guess I'll play with the widgets and see if I can get it to go away. The skipping problem and the low navigation volume issues need to get fixed by Samsung. Unfortunately I'm not even sure if they know about it.
Ah, thank you very much! I'm having the same problem on my epic.. Damn, battstat looks cool and all, but I need smooth music playback!!
Haven't had an issue since installing Voodoo. Try it, if you're comfortable.

Hey guys I've read about another serious issue plaguing the Vibrant and unfortunately it has been affecting mine too. It's with the Music player. Every time I play a song, there's a lag or a stutter in the song.
Regardless of what song is playing, there's a serious stutter, and it takes away from the music experience.
At this point I'm ready to refund this baby back to bell and unfortunately am considering the Iphone.
I really don't want to but the phone is kinda laggy and with the gps + stuttering problem it's getting quite annoying.
Anyone else have this experience while listening to music? Or is it just mine? It's unfortunate cause the screen is quite nice and responsive at times.
It just seems like Samsung hasn't really fixed any of the bugs plaguing the phone.
What are the specifics on your media? Bitrate/encoder/file type? Are you playing off the internal or external sd?
The encoders are all across the platforms. I have .mp3's to .Wma's. Every song has a time where it stutters.
When I had my g1 this stutter and pause in the music happens when I recieved a text message.
It's just a really fast little pause and it really disturbs the music.
I'm using internal memory.
Same problem here . . .
I am using the internal SD card as well
mp3s
196kbps fixed
44.1 khz
basically as vanilla as you can get. . .
I tried airplane mode, just in case it was a sync issue, no luck
I just put a few songs on the 2gb sd card that came with the phone and I tried to play a song and the screen went black and my touch sensitive buttons were light up lol and it restarted itself.
Going back to my Zune HD/iPod lol. oh well. When it comes to media the iPhone takes the cake. Android is more nerdy and customizable.
Doesn't bother me too much. I would have personally like to have an all in one device but dont have the money for ATT's plan and prefer androids customization over iPhones.

The Galaxy S Vibrant is supposed to be the best android phone for music on the market. Why should you cough up the dough and then go back to listening on another player?
It's not right. I'm beginning to think it's a software issue.
I've had no problems at all with the music player. Music in mp3 format at 320kbs.

I have about 8GB of MP3, WMA and 4GB of FLAC songs on a class 4 microSD card. I don't have any issue as you describe. Try to reset your phone first.
iPhone and Zune only play few formats. Drag and drop FTW. What a PITA when I have you sync everything to my iPhone using that stupid iTunes. To be able to play my song/movie without converting it to another format FTW too.
Ive noticed this issue as well. The best way to describe it, is like a cd skipping real fast. It's less than a second long, and it's literally a skip in playback.
I initially suspected it was a small lag spike from the screen shutting off, but Ive had it happen twice in a row after the screen is already off.
There must be some process running in the background that is causing this to happen, because it's totally random. It does happen after the screen shuts off though.
I've been using mine with a class 2 card and about 14 gb of music of mostly mp3s. I get an _occasional_ skip but nothing more than I would get with any other music player. Haven't noticed anything else going on at the same time though.
I think it's your device, though IMO if that's enough to make you want an iphone then you're probably missing the point of android in the first place.
This happen to me too. The stock music player. Though, I have no problem with other music player apps eg. 3(cube), mixzing.
It's likely to be a widget. For me it was Gauge Battery.
Im not getting any type of stuttering.... This plays music flawlessly...
Theres got to be something going on with your device. Also I would have heard about this issue alot more if everyone was experiencing it...

Agreed. I don't have this problem either or have never noticed it. The only time I noticed skipping, it was a singular song I had on the device. Not a random occurrence as explained.
That makes issue 3 for the Vibrant that I don't have

The same goes for me. No problems with any other music player only the stock. It's not even close to bad enough to switch from this device only happens once every so often.
Ok tried simply music app and playing from a class 6 card. Still getting the stutter. I am using beautiful widget weather app, will disable it and try again. . .

I have about 5G of music from itunes on my vibrant. I used isync app from the market to get the music from my itunes to my phone, I have had the phone 3 weeks and have experienced ZERO lag, stutter, or skipping...but my uncle who got the phone the same day from the store (i received mine through mail) had the same problem with the stock player. I think its because he used widows media player.

I have the studder issue. Uploaded through windows media player. It seems to happen when i load the first song, and happens more if I'm listening to music while I search through the the music lists. When the screen is inactive it works perfectly unless its the first song. I have almost 8 gigs of music
It was the weather widget that was causing the problem, thanks heygrl.

Sorry for hijacking kinda
but I am about to retry it once again. I don't have a SD card other than the 2gb that came with the phone should I put the music on the phones internal and see if I get studdering again?
Hey guys,
Has anyone noticed that when playing music in the vibrant that their songs skip or cut out for a split second like 3 or 4 times a song? This is driving me nuts as I use my phone to play my mp3s in my car every single day and its very noticeable. I have tried other players like mixzing and same thing...
I have owned a bunch of android phones and haven't had this problem on any others.
Thanks...
Oh I should add that I am stock 2.1 with ryanzas oc lag fix but a friend of mine is still stock and experiencing the same problems just not as bad.
Ive noticed the same thing. Mostly when a notification or call comes in but sometimes when nothing else is happening. Yea really annoying.
My phone is completely stock except for being rooted.
It also happens when wifi is turned on when wifi is off it doesn't happen

I've never had this problem but I have experienced "the beat" being extremely loud and the lyrics being too soft, its a hardware problem, if the headphones aren't plugged.in the exact way, this will happen. Perhaps this is what is causing your problems as well, also this should be in the Q&A Section
I get a small skip every couple of songs using MixZing. I have Wifi off, so that's not the issue for me. I don't really notice it. Is your music on the internal or the SD card?
I have tried both the internal and a couple external memory cards...i actually swapped my vibrant at t mobile today to see if a new one would help...the new one does it but not as much. However given how much I use my phone for music its enough for me to return and go back to my android hd2...i like this phone better over all but music is pretty much number one cuz I am a musician... I tried lowering everything on the eq to the bottom...didn't help... Seems like an issue like you might get streaming pandora, where its running out of buffer so to speak...weird.
Wifi on or off and other stuff like syncing off doesn't help either...also have a task manager that will give me 200 mb free ram that doesnt help either.
sorry for postingin the wrong section btw
I would think this is fine in the General area.
fliplovin', when you talk about the EQ, do you mean in MixZing? Because the EQ in MixZing tells you it will cause high CPU usage, so I would turn that off completely.
no , there is an equalizer in the stock music player under settings... it allows you to not only do preset values, but also custom channel per channel... it also has effects like arena, and wide... etc..
i have tried EVERY setting possible... i am now about to flash a custom rom and see if that helps...
one thing that seemed to help temporarily was to use the system manager and close everything leaving me with 200 mb available memory and turn the eq all the way down, however, that made my max volume quite a bit lower... not exactly what i want to do.

You ever get this figured out? its been pissing me off really bad as of late. I want to keep the phone stock, but i would still like to know if flashing to a new rom helped
the only time it's skipped for me is when installing apps etc..
This same thing happened to me when I had Weather Widget installed. It seemed that every time it would try to update, the music player would skip. Using fancy widget now and never had the problem again
Music player and Google Listen both stutter a bit for me when playing a large file (over 5mb or so) and it tends to stop after the first 30 seconds. This is when wifi and gps are turned off and my phone isn't doing anything.
I did a clean flash today to JFD, then JI6. I noticed while listening to music on the way home from work tonight, there was no skipping in MixZing. I'm only doing the "/data/data to NAND" hack.
Do any of you have battery widgets/Accurate battery mods?
They can cause skipping and choppiness throughout the entire OS.
I had the same problem. I had world Analog and digital widget installed. I read on the T mo forums about some clock widget causing it so i uninstalled mine.
No more problems with the music.
I also use "Zimly" for audio player.
For Acurate battery info i use "MiniInfo" its not causing any problems.
Recently I noticed my Fascinate would skip constantly while playing music - like every 30 seconds maybe even more often. For me, the mp3 player is one of the most used things for me on my phone. I don't want to double fist a phone and an ipod or something if I don't need to!
After looking back I realized that although the problem was recent I had been having minor skipping for quite a while - but not often enough to really take notice. Anyway, when it finally started skipping all the time I couldn't stand it anymore.
I've done a lot of searching and testing with this issue and have resolved my problem.... sort of. Lot's of people seem to have this problem and others don't...
So, it seems a lot of times widgets can be the problem. So after uninstalling "battstat" the skipping went down to 1-2 times a song... Hooray? Still less then ideal - I shouldn't have any skipping! Then I got rid of "beautiful widgets" and that minimalized the skipping even more. I finally got rid of "widget locker" while I was at my widget uninstalling spree. So far NO MORE SKIPPING!!! Hooray! ... ...
BUT
This is less then ideal. Many people have perfectly working music playback AND have all their widgets. I on the other hand, it would seem, can only have widgets OR flawless playback - not both. Say it ain't so Joe! Is my phone just one of the flawed, I should return this because all hope is lost, phones? Or is there still a chance to get this phone working like a charm?
Seems like a software thing to me though which should suggest that my phone itself is ok... otherwise playback would be constantly bad... But I'm no IT person so I can only make educated guesses based on limited research really.
Anywho, I guess I'm just reaching out to the community to see if anyone has any idea on if I'm screwed and can no longer have my widgets. Or if there is something else that can be. Hotfixes? 2.2 fix?
I've very sad about my very plain looking phone right now. =( To a point that I have actually stopped stalking the forums and finally posted something...
EDIT: Not sure if it really matters but I should just note. My phone is rooted, de-bing'ed, de-bloated and of course has clockwork recovery. NOT de-odexed, NO voodoo or lagfixes, and NOT running any roms (just used Titanium Backup to freeze all the bloated stuff) - waiting for 2.2 before I start getting really deep into phone fiddling.
Thanks,
-Andrea
Yea same for me. I deleted Battstat because Winamp was skipping. Sad to remove such an awesome widget.
I too have had this problem but haven't been able to figure out what is causing it. I noticed that if I load a rom and wipe first it starts doing it, but if I start with my stock backup and load the rom without wiping, it doesn't do it. I actually returned one to the store for this issue. Do you happen to have anything on your sd card that you had on another phone? I have a theory that had something to do with it, but I have nothing to back that up with.

No, my SD is clean from any old phone's data. I was having playback problems on Pandora as well. =/ Also tried all sorts of different music players but they all skipped just the same.
Been playing around with different widgets... Beautiful widgets was causing problems but I put it back on for the 3rd time and my phone is happy... for now at least (knock on wood ). The two main culprits are Battstatt (MAJOR ISSUES) and very sadly TypoClock was causing problems too (not nearly as bad as battstatt but problems none the less). With these two widgets removed I've had almost no skipping. Think I heard 1 during my 30 minute drive home (yay traffic!) - which could have just been the phone lagging b/c of an update or sync or whatever.
But this still leaves me with the same issue. Basically there is just a band-aid over the problem. But why are only certain phones doing this... and more importantly can anything be done to have a happy phone - widgets, music, and all?
At the very least, I hope this thread has helped or can help others who have been having problems with their music playback.
I've noticed this when frequently flashing ROMS. I have concluded that following these steps fixes the problem. Disable voodoo(if applicable) restore original mbr. Odin all the was back to stock after backing up everything wipe data/cache and load the ROM of your choice on a clean slate and then restore all and problem should be fixed. Worked for me. Music playing skip free.

It seems to do this when there is an app poling for data.

Same thing here. Removed TypoClock and it went away. It still concerns me though.
That's weird. I have both Typoclock and Battstatt on my Eris and music plays awesome. Lag can't be a problem with this issue. Just my 2 cents.

So the battery life on my Vibrant was complete crap after upgrading to JI6...we're talking maybe 6 hours on standby, no use at all, 100%->dead.
I was getting ready to eBay my Vibrant and pick up on of these.
However, I ended up uninstalling a home screen widget I wasn't using anymore (Weather Channel). All of a sudden, my battery life is solid again.
I'm not sure if there's a bug in the Weather Channel widget that was not a problem until the JI6 update, but whatever it was, it fixed my issue.
So give it a shot if you're in the same boat.

Yay, awful coding!
Yep, I had WeatherBug installed on my computer, and I had to uninstall it due to terrible battery drain. In addition to the widget, they also run all the time in you notification bar as well. Terrible coding.
I wish I could get an HTC Sense Clock/Weather widget for this thing... HTC's widgets are almost a reason to pick their phones over anyone else's.
You could of saved $60 flashing the JI2 Modem.
Hi Guys.
I have been in this forum for a while now and have found it hugely helpful. I have never needed to ask a question but this his me truly stumped.
I am running Andriod 2.2 with the latest version of OCLF. I use launched pro and and have a clock widget from beautiful widgets.
On friday, for no reason, the clock widget suddenly stopped working. There was a message telling to remove and replace it to get the updated version. I so did this and for a while it was fine but then the same thing happened. I decided that i couldn't be bothered to fix it there and then i so deleted the application and carried on with me day.
The reason i bring up this uninteresting fact is that at the same time, my phones ability to produce sounds has taken a turn for the worse. I listen to a lot of music on my phone and there have always been the odd stops and skips in songs, its annoying but i have gotten used to it. Since friday the stops and skips have been replaced by a juddering (like a static sound over the top of the music). THis is not just limited to music playback either. I get the same juddering when my text message sound goes off or a call comes in and the juddering is present on both head phones and the phones speaker.
If i am honest the juddering *Sounds* like its a hardware problem like a lose connection or a crossed wire, but since its in both the speak and the headphones i dodnt see how that could be the case.
It is almost like the phone is struggling to keep up.
I have also noticed increased battery drain during this time too.
I appreciate that this is all a bit vague but any help would be fantastic!
Thanks
I see two options:
- install System Panel App and let it monitor CPU usage. This could show the offending process or app which is eating CPU
- or bite the bullet and do a factory reset.
Thanks for that.
I have been monitoring my phones stats for the past few hours and the CPU usage is hovering around 50% with just the music player running. Is this normal?
It's not normal... Maybe you have some corrupted file or smthing... Try a factory reset. If you backup your contacts, calendar
... It's not a lot of work.

Thanks. It seems to be the MediaServer service that is eating all of my resources. When there is music playing its consuming 25% - 30% of my CPU.
