I'm not getting any squeaky, quirky or "cracking" sounds on mine, it's very sturdy and tight. Maybe you got a slightly defect one. If it bothers you then you should obviously return it.

+1 - nothing like this on my a500, had it for nearly two months. Trade it in.
Make sure all corners are snapped firmly in place. Like others have said, just return it and get a replacement if there isn't any obvious fixes to your issue.
no creaks, squeaks or otherwise here, as others have posted, if you still have time, exchange it!
Thanks guys, good enough, I gonna replace it even though there is no gap and looks tight but something is wrong cuz every time I press it cracks like something is not snap tight.

I probably did get that one which you have returned. ;-) The same noises in the upper left corner. Unfortunately that is a big pain in the ass to replace something in Poland. BTW it is 530 USD to buy it here. Anyway is the new one free of that cracking sound??
Sent from my A500 using Tapatalk
I have only seen 3-4 people complain about this so it seems to me that it's a very rare build defect, probably just a bad batch of plastic somewhere? Of course, what I have or haven't seen is just anecdotal evidence, but I'd feel returning it and getting another one should have quite good chances of actually getting one of the good samples

Don't tell me I am the only one. Has anyone else just stopped caring about screen lift? I have ATTEMPTED to fix it, but it doesn't work that well. Who else
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
I've just lived with mine. It's very minor (the raised glass is about the thickness of a sheet of paper) so I consider myself one of the lucky ones.
I kept my first one. Messing with washers and shorter screws helped the visual lift a bit but the screen is creaky and squidgy and doesn't feel too solid and plenty of rippling around the screen.
The second one went back and am now on my third. It had NO lift on day one and 10 days later it still has no lift at all. It all feels very solid and no screen rippling or creaking.
So there are good ones out there.
So it's down to which you can live with easier, the screen lift or the hassle of the returns process.
I really didn't give a crap. It's a tiny minor flaw I really didn't care. I mean really, it's 200 dollars I don't expect the world. This thing does everything I wanted and more and its a measly 200 bucks. I am too busy enjoying it rather than sweat petty little stuff.
minor screen lift on mine, its in a case now, so I can't see it anyways
Open it up and on the side where the creakiness is coming from you'll notice a small strip of black foam. Remove it. This will get rid of the creakiness (worked well for me).
me...My N7 still rocks!

Just to stir the pot - I never considered screen lift real.
The bezel is flexible plastic, and the left side can dip a bit.
Maybe the bezel should have been aluminum; not a big deal anyway.

You haven't had it then. I've had two with the screen lifting along the left side, and I've seen and used ones without it. I can assure you it is very real and is a big deal.
More generally, the 'what do you expect for £200' argument is a false one as the price is not set for faulty goods. I will keep returning them until I get a good one, and I'd suggest no-one settles for less than that. But, hey, choice is yours.

Nah. My argument us sound.
No product ever made is perfect and we all accept some level of compromise. When you buy a $4 hamburger your expectations are lower than a $10 one. For you the flaws are unacceptable. For others they reflect a 'cheap' but still satisfying product. Like you said, the choice is yours

So can I be the new guy here and ask for a definition of screen lift? I'm assuming it unevenness with the touch screen based on comments in this thread. And what am I looking for when inspecting this?

set it level, and look at the left side.. if the glass is coming up above the silver bezel, you've got lift, chances are you'll be able to push it down and it will be spongy and pop back up

But if your cheap hamburger came with the top half of the bun missing, would you just accept that cos its cheap?
The dodgy screen lift has nothing to do with it being cheap, its a fault.
I've had my third nexus for nearly two weeks, it was just as cheap as the first and second but has no faults with the screen.

If you only see glass in the middle of the left side, and not at the ends, your plastic bezel is dipping a bit.
The glass is flat; it does not curve.
I returned mine. Hoping for a revision before I have another go... the last exchange was such a hassle.

Mine squeaks ever so slightly at the top part if pressed too. It doesn't really bother me. I have a squeaky Thinkpad x220 that nonetheless is as strong as a tank. You can always find faults on these products, I have a feeling if I get mine exchanged for such a small thing I'll end up with a new device with something else to be bothered about.

You'll kick yourself if the replacement comes back with an even worse problem. Like dead pixels/bad screen tint.

Just noticed bezel near volume rocker is squeaking, n I hate it.
Mines squeaks too, but it's more of the back cover than the bezel.
Might be the way the cover is designed, after a few openings, it deforms slightly?

Guy the top bezel is squeaking because of that feature in the movement settings.. The double tap on the top of the phone makes you come back at the top of the list of your contacts for example.
Try to enable that feature and press two times the bezel that is squeaking.
It wasn't like this in my gs3,but it's more sensitive now.
But this squeaking is a physicsl defect...???

I completely agree. There is no such thing as a perfect device. Everything has an error here or there. So if there is no real problem then be happy I'd exchange mine for problems with the screen or camera. Buttons too. But because it squeaks a little? I'd say forget about it. But that's just me. It's a premier device and you deserve to be satisfied. if you're not satisfied then I'd suggest getting another.

Being a long time Blackberry user in the past device squeaks were very common.
A couple months after release a daring owner would take it apart find squeak post fix in forums.
I expect the same will happen with this device.
I'm picking up Sprint Version on Thursday , If it squeaks I will post fix

its the protective coating separating there was someone else having a similar issue but it was one big spot at the bottom of the screen where it was coming off.. Did you ever clean the screen with ammonia products like Windex .This can cause issues with the coating .Other people have commented on dots being on the glass itself as well..
So yes i have heard of this but it sounds like yours is the extreme of the condition..
glad you got it replaced

Does anyone else noticed the back of their Nexus 7 being ever so slightly curved? Not that this is something that would bother me, but when I place it on a table it is able to have just enough rock to it that swiping my finger with it or plugging a cable into it will pull the device in the direction of the tension.
(Moderators, I originally put this in Q&A, but since I realized it isn't so much a Q&A thread, I put it here in general. You can delete the Q&A one)
EDIT: Video comparison I just made - http://youtu.be/EhS7-KTwn4g
I believe it is designed that way so the speakers don't sit flat.

But it is down the vertical spine of the device, not the horizontal one. Plus the speaker grills are placed on the curve of the devices edge, so laying flat shouldn't be much of a problem anyway.
Not sure then. I just tried it with mine and I don't have that problem.

The back is indeed slightly curved... In the words of Will Graham, "this is by design"
Oh, I wasn't sure what you meant by that. I thought you meant if you pressed down on the top or bottom edge it would rock.

Best buy just refused to exchange it and wouldn't even try another device to see if it also did it, claiming it is a design choice (clearly she was on the ASUS/Google development team). Nor would they PM with the Staples coupon after the fact (but I can understand that one). She was just very rude and dismissive.
I just laid mine down on a marble counter. It sits flat. Only the edges are tapered for the speakers. Its pretty sturdy.

Yes! Somebody else notices. I was using my tablet in class today vertically and it kept turning horizontal. I noticed that the back isn't completely flat which is causing it to have movement when I lay it on a flat service.

Yeah, It might not be a huge "issue" (as the comment on my video says), but it is very annoying, especially considering I like to have the charger plugged in when I'm on it at times, and if there is any tension on the cord from where it is plugged in to where I am sitting, it will pull the tablet toward it.

I didn't really notice either until I had it plugged in and kept pulling away from me. Then I noticed it when I would swipe the screen. It really is annoying but I don't know how widespread the problem is and it is hard to gauge from the limited responses in this thread so far.
this really shows how far people are willing to go to find something to complain about..
slightly curved back that allows your device to spin freely when on a perfectly flat surface... really?

I tried to replicate, but I did not experience anything like that. I'm going with it's by design. It's in my hand 99% of the time anyway so I don't care.
