My problem is little weird so i try to explain it as best as I can...
until today there was no problem to connect phone with USB but now when i connect the phone windows said "This device can peform faster this usb device can perform faster if you connect it to a Hi-speed USB 2.0 port. And another problem is when i turn phone into download mode start odin and connect the phone it said... usb device not recognized. I didnt flash any rom yet and i try different cables.
I am running on windows 7 ultimate 64-bit. I try two different PC and its look it the same problem.
But the weird part is that on third PC which has also win 7 ult 64-bit it works just fine.
So i try reinstall operation system but the same problem. The computer is max 3 years old so its has for sure usb 2.0
So i am little desperate because i am not sure if its problem with computers or with the phone.
Thank you for any advice!
I always had this problem with the i9100 actually, I blame crappy usb drivers.
Kies installed? Did you also try different usb ports? Chipset and USB Drivers of mainboard installed?
yes kies installed and also try back and front usb... but same result...
and usb drivers are installed manually by windows as far as i know... or?

Download mode how and whats on the phone in download window
Connection must be to a mainboard usb port .
If your PC has Kies make sure its not running make sure USB debugging is off on phone .
Power phone off restart start Kies connect phone does Kies see phone .
If yes turn Kies off remove cable connect phone in USB mass storage mode wait for windows to install drivers . Does PC see phone in Windows Explorer .

as I said I tried back usb and also front usb... same problem...
debugging is also off...
I try a little experiment... removed external grahics card and plug graphics on mainboard... and for a few seconds its works!
I try copy some video and speed was usb 2.0 but after few seconds its get error cannot copy bla bla and windows popup : this device can run faster and it change back to USB 1... weird...
and also i try again downloading mode but the same error... usb device not recognized...
Have you always used the same USB-port?
On some pc's, they only have one or two high speed ports and the other ones are "slow".
So yeah, try an other USB port on your pc
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
OP, I am confident it is a problem with your PC, and this XDA forum won't be able to help.
Try using another USB 2 device (like an MP3 player), see if you get the same message.
Use a different computers with the SGS2, see if you get the same message.

When you say that it's not connecting, could you specify in which mode? E.g. USB Flasher in MAGLDR, USB Mass Storage in Android, USB Mass Storage in MAGLDR, bootloader etc.
it will not connect when im at my home screen. i have turned off usb debugging on the phone. im not sure wat mode its in when im just at the home screen sorry.
thanks josh
extract it in your dektop.
Connect your Android-powered device to your computer's USB port.
Right-click on Computer from your desktop or Windows Explorer, and select Manage.
Select Devices in the left pane.
Locate and expand Other device in the right pane.
Right-click the device name (such as HTC HD2) and select Update Driver Software. This will launch the Hardware Update Wizard.
Select Browse my computer for driver software and click Next.
Click Browse and locate the USB driver folder. (Google USB Driver, we have already extracted it )
Click Next to install the driver.

Well still check if it connects in USB Flasher mode in MAGLDR. If it does, then you should be all set to flash a newer version of Android. Just follow this guide. Before doing so, download the ROM directly on to your phone's SD from the browser and move the ROM to the root of the SD card. Also make sure to make a full backup of your ROM in CWM and of your data in Titanium Backup. On the guide you should probably skip the step which involves partitioning the SD card with an SD-EXT as this will delete the contents of your SD card.

...What? This makes no sense.
I also have this problem: after connecting android 4.1.2 to windows 7 x64 pc - nothing happends. I tried installing 4 different roms (all released in december 2012), but if I remember correctly my previous android (4.0.4) and the one before (2.something) had the same problem. I also tried 4 defrent pc.
I installed Google USB Drivers in Android SDK Manager but couldn't add them to unknown devise (it said that there are no drivers in the 'usb_drivers' folder. Also tried drivers mentioned in this thread but with the same result.
Tried turning off and on USB Debuging and plenty other options as suggested in posts I found. I also don't have any option to chose while connecting android via USB cable (only turning USB storage on and off - while on pc does see it, but only as an SD card).
Thank you for your answer,
Paul

Infected file.
I'm running OTA 4.0.3 (Acer_AV041_A500_1.033.00_PA_CUS1) rooted with I don't know what tool, but rooted after upgrading to 4.0.3, and using one of the tools found here which was the latest (at the time of rooting). The tablet has an "A500 Root Tools" app which has options to enter APX mode amongst other things.
I'm unable to get my Acer to connect to my PC via USB. I tried using both a mini(?)-usb cable and an A-A cable. My acer makes no notification, and there's no visible, or audible, evidence that anything was connected. USB Debugging enabled and disabled makes no difference. The tablet shows absolutely no sign that anything was plugged in. Nothing in notifications, nothing in any file managers.
Likewise on both a Windows 7 PC, and a Windows Vista machine. No little sound saying I plugged something in. Nothing listed in device manager. Nothing anywhere. The Win7 machine has the Acer drivers installed, as it is the machine I used to root it a few months ago.
Is there some weird ICS toggle that I need to perform to get this working? I know my USB ports are working as I've plugged in USB sticks and it mounts them without issue.
At the end of the day, I'm just wanting to flash my bootloader so that I can install CWM and a custom ROM. If there's a way to do that without needing my PC connected, that would make me equally happy.

Reinstall the Acer Drivers and also the Google drivers from the android sdk if u have that installed, if not use the adb_fast.zip attached. For you to successfully flash the BL do not underestimate the importance of having the drivers correctly installed - its the cause of 90% of the problems folks have had - my advice is to keep Device Manager open the whole time so you can see what is or isn't installing - dont proceed with the flash until you are sure they are - else you'll be looking at a downgrade to HC to fix things
you can also use Acer Recovery Installer from the market to install a custom recovery
While I appreciate your help, my issue is not drivers - Windows isn't loading the wrong drivers, or no drivers at all. Windows is showing no sign at all, at all, in device manger, any where, that a tablet has been plugged in. Like wise, the tablet gives ZERO notifications on being plugged in to a PC. Nothing. No sounds. No notification. Nothing.
I was originally using the micro(?) usb slot, and it was not working. I assumed that USB slot was dead. So I went and bought a USB A-A cable - after testing the normal USB slot and established it works - and it, too, does absolutely nothing when plugging the device into a PC.
I've since tested with an Ubuntu 12.04 machine as well. dmesg lists nothing.

and the adb interface driver thats not showing in device manager?? and you have the acer drivers installed??
All the signs are pointing to no drivers, failing that its sounding like a hardware issue either yr tab or cable - can u try on another pc/laptop?
Tested it on a Win 7 Dell, on a Vista Dell, and on an Ubuntu 12.04 Compaq. None show any sign of the device being connected.
I know my *two* micro USB cords work as my Nooks (color and tablet) have no problem with them. I know the large USB slot works as I've plugged in a keyboard and a USB memory stick and both are immediately detected by android.
I've also done a factory reset on the tab. Problem persists, obviously.
I'm actually setting up stock Win7 on another laptop right now. When it's complete I'll install acer drivers and plug in the tablet. It will be the only USB device, let alone android, to ever be plugged in to it.

The tool you used to root it (icsRoot) also has an unroot tool, which you could have used...I have tried to unroot manually which wasnt easy as I had a pre-rooted rom and I had real trouble getting rid of superuser, but in your case it may be a bit different....Sorry can't give you much help in the unrooting ics dept. Maybe try flashing acer stock rom??? or starting a new thread??

are you trying to flash something or do you mean when you connect yr tab
windowz explorer doesnt show your int/ext storage??
more info needed, what rom and bootloader, what OS on yr pc can u try on a different one, try a different cable and usb port..
have you run the acer drivers setup.exe
did u install the android usb ones
have u opened a command prompt from the folder where adb.exe is and run "adb devices"...does a number show??
when u have device manager open and connect yr cable do you see the drivers install. If they are there then uninstall them, disconnect yr cable and clean boot and reconnect.
If they do not install then manually install by pointing them to the folder you extracted the zip to...for the acer ones, just point it to your c: drive
If windows trys to install them, stop the hardware wizard from searching windows update and manually install them yourself.
If you've tried to flash the bootloader and it hasnt completed for what ever reason - you can strike issues such as yours - again, uninstall, clean boot, reconnect, manual install

That's correct, a straight USB "A to A" won't work. Further, I discovered something else; not all micro-usb cables are created equally! I was using a cable that worked fine on my Thunderbolt phone, would not work at all on my A500. Turned out there's some enhancements to the pinouts on the newer micro-usb devices. So the lesson here is go with the cable that came with the device if at all possible.
Seriously though, give a different micro-usb cable a shot; they're pretty cheap around the interwebz.
I dont get a usb connection to my omnia 7
I tried it on 3 pcs 1 with 64bit 2 with 32bit and all usb ports
On all pcs I installed the usb driver
All pcs recognize my phone but the software gives this error:
[Error Description]:
Please make sure that your device is connected to your computer.
also make sure that right drivers are installed (SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.exe)
Try to connect device to different USB port and also you can try to reboot PC.
Also you can try to exclude USB hubs.
[Info]: USBWorkDMLI_SAM.cpp (173)
anyone knows what i am doing wrong ?

Hi,
I have exactly the same problem as chris1005, with an Omnia 7.
I strictly followed the instructions to install Magldr:
1) Installing Usb Samsung Drivers
2) Put my phone in download mode
3) Connect it to my pc
4) Launch "DMLI for Samsung V1"
And when i reach the "Connect" step, i get the "173" error (view attachment).
I run on a Win7 x64, my phone is developer unlock.
Thanks for the answers
I had the same problem, but it was solved when I used a USB port on the back (connected to the motherboard) instead of one on the front (connected trough a hub).
Hi,
Thanks for your response, but i tried this method, it doesn't work too, whether the usb on motherboard or the usb hub.
:/.
I don't know where this is blocking.
Is there any other solution to flash a rom on an Omnia 7 than the DFT solution ?
Thanks.
I flashed back from 7.8 to 7.5 and had the same problem again, but ater I rebooted my computer, it worked.

How To Get Windows 8.1 To Recognise USB Mass Storage On Your Phone
I have had the problem for ages that when I connected my Samsung Galaxy GT-S5360 into my Windows 8.1 PC nothing happened - Windows 8.1 simply refused to recognise the device - not even anything in device manager - nothing - nada
However it would recognise the phone if I set the phone to download mode - but I want to use my phone as mass storage
Well after months of trying I finally found a really stupid solution
Solution
Install the usb drivers for your phone as normal
connect the phone to pc via usb cable (nothing happens other then a few beeps as normal)
now plug in any usb dongle that you have already installed on your pc - like a usb wireless mouse dongle
suddenly windows detects the phone and you can now set your phone to mass storage from the phone status bar
Every time you want to connect your phone in mass storage just plug it in then plug in the other usb dongle after

no - read the thread fully - at no point do I mention odin
you just need to plug your phone in then plug in any other usb dongle and the option to connect to mass storage will appear in the phones status bar
You mean connect my Galaxy Y with Windows 8.1 first, and then what's the USB dongle(is this like flash drive, wired mouse or something?) will detect it in phone status bar?
