I just wanted to say that I got my EVO replacement due to the screen separation issue. Anyway, as soon as I got the replacement phone I noticed two things that were different from my first EVO.
1. The back cover: The back cover on this EVO is a little darker than my original and seems to be made of that scratch resistant rubber plastic on phones like the Palm Pixi. It's not as rubbery as the Pixi but it's there and it's definitely different from my first phone.
2. Screen Brightness: The screen on the replacement is much brighter than my first EVO. Even at the highest setting on my original I was a bit disappointed coming from the Nexus One. This second phone is easily as bright as the N1.
Could the phone really be a little different this early on in production?
Whats the hardware version?
It says 0003. I never checked my first EVO though.
I received an 0003 on launch day. It does not have any of the issues so far that people have been plagued with.. I have noticed that the light from the buttons bleeds through to the lcd screen which is annoying and is more obvious depending on what is being displayed on the screen. There is not screen seperation or light gap between the frame though.
I have one of the first batch EVOs and mine says version 0003 as well. Maybe they didn't bother changing that information?
I wish there was a way to compare. Either way, I'll probably wait and see if my EVO gets any worse within my 30 days before I ask them to swap it out for a newer version. But I also don't have too many issues with it. My touch screen works properly (not sure if there's an issue or not because I tried it on my pillow again this afternoon and it worked fine) and my screen has not separated yet (though the light does still leak through a teeny bit).
I have version 2 and I haven't had any of the issues people are mentioning. Hopefully I don't have to swap mine out.

I've got a v2 and no issues except for the ground one which I don't really give a crap about.
I have version 002 and I don't have any problems I hope. I do get the problem with my screen not mounted correctly so when it is on a table the screen is not working properly

All 3 of ours were 0002 from sprint.com on launch day; all 3 have the glass problem and mine has the blown speaker problem.
Hoping when they get them back in stock, the exchanges will be better.
Yeah, I also have a 002, most likely because I have a Google IO phone. It seems to have none of the problems that are being talked about—not even light leakage or touchscreen. Only problem out there is the 30FPS cap and that's established to be kernel/firmware. Seems like the first true production run of EVOs had some shoddy work...

Odd because my Evo is from launch day and has the rising screen issue but it also has the same back cover and very bright screen you seem to be describing on your replacement. I kept comparing my Evo to my HD2 and saying wow the Evo screen is so much nicer and brighter for some reason.

Have you tried pressing down on the glass just below the 4 touch buttons? I had the light leakage since day one but I had read about it in a few tech blogs who demoed the Evo before launch and said they noticed that so I figured it was just a flaw to live with on most if not all Evo's. But now that my screen raised up and can move up and down a bit, when I press down hard enough (which isn't very hard), the light leakage goes away until I remove my fingers or until the screen decides to pop back out later.
Guess I am not the only one noticing this:

Second EVO (replacement for first.
Im currently on the second EVO now and I too niticed a difference in the brightness from the first one. This one it brighter and the bottom 4 buttons are evenly lit on this EVO. The Hardware on this current EVO is 0003. I dont know what the first EVO was. I am currently waiting for sprint to get more in stock so they can send me a 3rd replacement. This model has the yellowish vertical lines in the screen,
Today I went to use the front facing camera and the phone froze, rebooted, and now uses the back cam no matter what setting I put it on. It seems like the front cam is nonexistent. I have done a factory reset and still nothing. I dont understand what happend to HTC's quality controll from Hero to EVO. The Hero I had had ZERO issues and now these phones are falling apart right out of the box. Way to go HTC!!!
I have 002, having the glass issue along with light bleed. Right now it's not that bad when I have a case on it. But I am going to get TEP and get a new phone a year lol.
Hey guys,
I just received a replacement phone from Bell, so now I happen to have two Galaxy S running in front of me. My old phone, for some random reason doesn't have the same colors as my new one.
The old phone, displays white really nicely, whereas the new one, it's more "beige-ish"... Overall the screen colors of the new phone are "warmer" and the old one has more realistic colors. Darker blacks and whites that are really bright.
I don't get it... Is the new phone defective?! Does it need break-in?
Thanks
Same Problem
Dude I got my old bricked phone replaced around a week ago and this new one's screen, like you said, has beige-ish or yellowish coloring whenever I put the brightness down below 20%. My old one was perfect, it showed the whites perfectly. What are you planning on doing? I think im going to take it in to the store. Did you find out the reason for it or take it in yourself to the store?
You guys should post the manufacture dates for your old and new phones. I got a new 9000M after my internal SD died but I never had both phones at the same time. As far as I can tell my new phone's display is just as good (maybe slightly better) than the old one. They were both 10.08 dates.
From what I have heard, a new AMOLED should be slightly blueish because the blue sub-pixels get weaker before the others.
My old one is 10.08 and the new one is 10.11. Old one's screen was perfect..but i dont know whats wrong with this one..its just yellow when the brightness setting is low..
Same here, bought my mother's captivate(not from replacement) and its screen seemed yellowish and darker than mine. However touch button backlight is much brighter than mine.

Any solution for this???
Sorry I have to say this, but it is absolutely normal. Had 2 sgs back in june. One ABSOLUTELY white and great screen (but also a dead pixel)and the other more as described here. Also the warm color is best be seen in an angel of normal use. Annoying, but you get used to it.

So Crypta, will this be looked upon as a defect. Could I possibly take it back to Bell store for a replacement. I cannot get used to this..its pretty bad, the yellow coloring i mean.
I think the speedmod kernel has colour adjustments made. Check it out in the Dev forum

Kewjoe, could you plz tell me the step by step process of getting my phone to your phone's level. I mean Darky's rom..speed mod etc. Our phones (bell i9000) are extremely fragile and you know that. I wanted to get darky's on it but i dint want to brick it. Also, if i do mod darky's but somehow or another my phone needs repair and I need to take it back to bell, would I be able to bring my phone back to bone stock (bell jl2) conditon? If yes, how is it done? Thank you
Can't say if it is rated as flaw. Kept mine, as it is only a great difference in comparison. Saw 4 sgs screens - all different from blueish to pretty warm. There seem to be a great variation within production range.

This is normal in the process of screen, that does not come from the same production line.
Took mine in to bell store couple of days back and they shipped it for repair/replacement. They compared my screen to the phone on display in store and even they said mine was really washed out. I also had a loose battery problem so they mentioned that on the repair sheet as well. Hopefully I get it(or a replacement) back soon. They said 10 days..I'll let you know once I get it back.
is it still SAMOLED, does it still have DEEP Blacks? maybe they changed it to SLCD? i hope not!
Yea its still S-Amoled but it was just yellowy so I had to take it back. I dont think they would change it to slcd..lets see.
Chk this out, I think it could be software problem but I flashed many roms and it hasn't seemed to bring it back to normal so I sent it in.

Have you tried to Galaxy Tuner? It's available in the market, you can change the color settings with it.
I Swyped this on my Galaxy S
Different manufacturing batches ==>Different products. It may happen. But if there is too much difference in colors as you said it is a manufacturing defect.
What are the main shortcomings on DHD ?
Battery life - it can least for 24h - enough for me
Sound quality - "call trick" made things up
Camera lens and blur ?
Is it now fixed ( I'm planning to buy a phone in 2 weeks ( in this Shop where i want to buy it came before 2-3 weeks ago) ?
This is my main concern, so if u now good news it will be good :/
Greetings from Sarajevo
Higher pixel resolution, coating on the screen against fingerprints&better protection in sunlight, better build quilty (The battery/simcard plastic thingy's) frontcamera, multicoloured LED notification lights.
That would be it. I am happy with the battery life.
I would say is the battery issue only..
As far as build quality goes, you're better of getting a plastic phone.
The metal is great, but those covers just make me wanna die.
I got a cheapo tpu silicon case off eBay for my dhd and its the best case I've ever had for a phone, it adds a bit to the thickness of the phone but its not obtrusive. I can get a day of heavy usage using cm7 and mm's battery fix. Call quality is great, although speaker volume is on the low side.
Others ?
I don't have any issues with my DHD anymore. The sound problem and battery life was fixed with a custom rom, sim & battery covers fit perfect and the camera lens/blur issue was fixed with a warranty repair (this problem is found only in the first batch of phones?). The screen is everything i need (yes i've used iphone 4 and galaxy s), a higher resolution wouldn't make such a big difference and I like the colors more than the amoled screen colors.

Well before this I had a 3GS. That had a coating which was really nice because the fingerprints weren't getting visible. The Ipad has a special kind of coating to.
You could probably buy some kind of spray for it but for a crown-jewel product of a manufacture like HTC it should be a 'must'
I got my RMA device today, and the image retention problem I had isn't as bad on this device. However I have noticed a considerable difference in the brightness of this device compared to the old one. The old one has a much brighter screen, and the yellow on the left is much worse on the new device. With my old Nexus 4 the yellow got better over time, so I think that might be the case with this one too, however will the screen get brighter over time? I doubt it. Has anyone else noticed a darker screen on the newer devices? My old nexus 4 was a 301K and rev_10. The new one I got today is a 303K and rev_11.
So has anyone noticed a difference?
A lot if people have been received their S6 Edge phones with defects, either through transit or manufacturing, I am now on my third one in 3 days due to there being a small chip out of the metal trim under the screen and then the earpiece speaker being all fuzzy on the replacement, not to mention one of the others i was offered had a chip out of the metal surround. Luckily my third one now seems perfect (fingers crossed).
Just make sure your phone is perfect before you walk away at the end of the day your paying a lot of money for it and its gonna save you going back and fourth like iv had to lol
I don't know how it works in other country's but here in the UK carriers HAVE to give you 14 days "cooling off period" which enables you to get on the spot exchanges if your unhappy with your phone, or they have to let you cancle your contract.
Hope this is helpful, thanks.

I can attest to this as I'm about to take the second one back this week. The problem is that it is difficult to do at these stores due to lighting. The first one I return as there was a small (miniscule) circle on the glass, otherwise the phone was perfect (In hindsight I wish I kept that unit). The second unit has a screen that I'm not sure how it made on the phone as it should have been rejected. Top and bottom has green tint, left side had purple tint and top right has the dusty/dirty section that you can clearly see on web browser when reading. Now, the VZW store was extremely nice and agreed to replace my first one with no issues. I'm going back to take the second one back this week.
The issue is with lighting at store and everything is cranked up. Tough to see screen issues on that type of brightness. I can't stand screens that aren't uniform and calibrated, and after reading about Amoled this weekend, I'm not expecting much. I'm hoping third time is the charm, but in all honesty I may just give up on this phone, as I don't really have the time to go back and forth to store every week to play the exchange lottery.
definitely no hardware problems here..
I smell what you're cooking! Typical company issues
Anyways, got mine S6 EDGE and I'm in love with it. I did not check everything, but it seems to be fine. But I have a question for you :
It is normal that the speakers are a little bit (I don't know how to describe this)...rustled, when I have the uppermost volume?
After reading this I thoroughly inspected mine. I guess I got lucky. Verizon 64GB White one and I don't see any issues at all. Sorry to hear you guys are running into issues though :/
T-Mobile 64GB Sapphire BLUE here. As far as I can tell, no defects. It almost sounds like initial batches had/has all the issues, but that's a small sample size. Personally haven't run into any thing related to: straight-from-box screen scratches, screen rotation issues, or color variances.
Only thing I wish it had was a little less sensitivity right above the home button... I keep hitting the area on top of the home button first, and then the button itself.
As for the speaker quality Its hard to tell really because it could be your cell connection affecting the sound quality as well, the problem I had was that no matter who I called it sounded like there with something going "zzzzzttz" "zzttz" as they spoke! As far as I'm aware the sound quality is actually pretty good cranked up full!
Come to think of it the first one I was given also had more of a yellow tint to the whites than the one I have now... Maybe a placebo effect but still something worth mentioning!
Btw : I just checked my display, I have a few, little scratches on my display. Is that normal? (You can only see them with bright light)

Depends on what you mean by normal. Around 30% of people here have reported the scratches.
You all should check for screen non-uniformity. A portion of your screen might be pinker than normal.
Here are pictures I took of my screen. I have a sliver of pink tint at the top and some pink tint at the bottom part. Grays also appear brighter at the bottom part of the screen.
Should I have it changed or this is above average for a s-amoled screen?
