Thoughts? - EVO 4G General

Anyone know if this sounds good.. Avav9 with the the Reva that was just released. Kings newest #11 BFS kernel without HAV,s and Collins battery tweak? Everytime i use SetCPU my battery life seems to be worse, so i am wondering if this sounds like a good setup/plan?

I'm fairly sure the only diff in V9 and V9RevA is the kernel, so you can flash V9 since you are going to replace anyway. See if it works for u.

Difference between stable and brain fuct kernel releases?

What are the differences between the two, and the advantages/disadvantages. I have been told its safer and better to use a stable, preferably 11 or 14, for whatever reasons, but i was never really told why. Anyone care to explain?

The stable kernels are the latest uncapped kernels running at 768 mHz with a standard CFS scheduler, which refers to how they schedule the queued tasks. The Brainfuct kernels are built on the BFS scheduler, which many people say is speedier, but it is slightly less stable, as in GPS may not work as well, and you may experience freezes.
Try out the latest Brainfuct kernel, and if you have instability problems, switch to the latest Stable release (currently 14 I think).
I've been having fc's with #14. ADW.process.acore or something to that effect when I wake my phone up. I'm just running the cm6 stock kernal, it is good enough for my needs.

True, the stock kernel may be your best bet.

[POLL] Which kernel/version are you running?

Wanted to do quick survey.
Popular kernels seem to be MixUp and Phoenix, but people seem to have mixed feelings on which version to run.
Which kernel and version are you running and why?
Right now I like MixUp mainly due to the ultra-low brightness.

I just switched back to the latest mixup, I found the latest phoenix to be overly laggy.

True, I noticed this as well. Love the custom boot animation but it does seem laggy and mixup seems to give better battery life.
Pheonix after I deleted cache and all user data with clockwork. I didn't clear the stuff before but after I did my battery lasts easily a work day with 5 to 8 hour screen time. Use juice defender and clear cache befor putting in a kernel. And custom rom with most samsung junk deleted.

MixUp because it's the best. The brightness fix can't even compare to the Pheonix kernel, which is basically a combination of everything BUT the brightness fix. I also switch sometimes between Herver's kernel for bragging as well as Mammon99's kernel because of the awesomeness of having a custom boot animation. Props to all you guys for making this thing Epic.
Wow Phoenix seems to be winning so far.
Which version of Phoenix are people running?
I had problems with v1.49, it wouldn't wake up in standby, I'm pretty sure it was due to clocking down to 100 MHz.
I just loaded v1.48, we'll see how that goes.

[Q] Kernel's compatible with Koni's Elite Series II. HTC EVO.

Hey there! Relatively new to flashing ROM's and such. Rooted last Friday and I've been playing with a few different ROM's the past couple of days. I flashed Koni's Elite Series II ROM last night and I love the ROM. I still hate the battery life on the EVO so I put King's CFS #11 Kernel on it (read some where this was a great Kernel for battery life). Everything was running fine and I installed SetCPU on and had it on 'Conservative'.
It rebooted out of no where and whenever it was booting back up during the boot screen I could tell there was 2 different shades of black. Whenever the phone booted up and I got to the actual phone and dragged the lock bar down you could see little lines (running vertically) up and down the screen and it was reaaaaal laggy. So I figured SetCPU did something to my CPU and was making it bottleneck or something like that, so I uninstalled it. Didn't fix the problem so I restored back to Myn's WarmTwoPointTwo.
So, I love the ROM, and could probably use a crash course with ROMs/Kernel compatibility. If anyone has a link, or even a direct answer as to the thread title, that'd be great.
Appreciate the help!
I am pretty sure that rom is a Sense based rom, so your options for a kernel are pretty broad.
-Netarchy Kernels-Seem to work great for everyone around here and a lot of people are big fans of, I have used some and never had a problem
-Ziggy's- Can be found at www.ziggy471.com and when I did use Sense these were a favorite for me, and gave me the best battery life. With SetCPU use the Smartass governor from my experience was flawless.
-Tiamat- Just came out with a Froyo kernel, I can say that his AOSP kernels are amazing so I would imagine the Froyo would be just the same.
*A handfull of these kernels use SBC and will state if they do. This will give you phenomenal battery life. I have never been a fan and some say that it may cause issues with your battery and your phone(you can read the stories on here). Many have used without a problem though, so if you do you assume the risk.
You will have to decided if you want to use CFS vs. BFS, personally for battery life I prefer CFS but some say otherwise. Ultimately you have to just try them out because not all phones are created equal and will not work the same for everyone. I think there is a thread in Q&A in regards to everything Kernels.
Whew. Thanks a ton for the information. I guess King's Kernel's don't work with this particular ROM. That's fine though.
I'll definitely check out Ziggy's kernel's and see how they work. I've read a couple of the horror stories from SBC based kernel's. I may try one out in the future if I get desperate.
Good to know what kind of ROM it is. Really appreciate the info.

There is a kernel guide, just kind of tells you what all the abbreviations and stuff mean, should help you out a lot to understand what will work best for you.

Yeah I checked that website out too. I was just confused on what Kernel's go with what ROM's.
I'm really computer savvy and that didn't happen in 3 days, so this will just take some time.
Update: Just flashed Ziggy's newest EVO kernel. Will use this for a day or two and see how it works.
For the SetCPU Smartass Governer? Do I need to download SetCPU in the market and use the setting through it?

It all depends on what you want to do actually. I believe his kernels are set to Smartass by default, and there is a built in screen off profile that lowers your cpu speed when the screen is off to conserve battery. If you want to create anymore profiles than you will have to get it yes.

Best Kernel's for G2?

Currently using CM7 nightly build 186 with stock kernel. Had umaros kernel but it gave me issues so I reinstalled 186 and restored apps with data using TB pro. Looking for an efficient kernel which gives good battery life and excellent performance/ doesn't make my phone overheat :/
So you're saying that you're having bad performance, battery, and heat problems with the stock CM7 kernel? That doesn't sound right. I think you may be having some other issues. What are you overclocking to? are you using the built in CMSettings CPU settings or a different app (SetCPU)? What governor are you using?
I would definitely recommend the stock CM7 kernel. Its a fantastic well rounded kernel that is guaranteed to work perfect with the software.
I agree - you should really use the CM7 kernel it works quiet brilliant.
IMHO all other kernels are not especially made for CM7...
I'm running Pershoots kernel with CM7 and I have it overclocked to 1.5 Ghz. My phone runs great and I'd say the battery lasts pretty much the same amount as it did when I was on stock. Of course when your gaming and stuff and actually using all those gigahertz then your battery life goes down the crapper.
Interestingly enough ... I haven't noticed the phone getting as hot as it used to when I did play games on it ... weird. You'd think overclocking it would cause it to warm it considerably.
yea I'm curious too. I'm running the stock OTA 2.3.4 pre rooted rom and everything works great, but I was wondering if I can improve wifi range or anything else?

No custom kernels for that. And if you were on a different ROM, custom kernels will help with battery or performance (they claim), but not really things like wifi signal.
Yea just had a scary moment when I flashed my radio lol. I know there is no working substitute kernal for the stock ota ...yet! But I was wondering what about g-lite, ayone try it? How close is it to the stock ota?

CM7 and G-lite are pretty close. Considering that the G2 OTA is close to stock AOSP, and these ROMs are made from AOSP they're going to be pretty close...
Why not flash them and try them? You can always go back to a nandroid backup of your stock rooted ROM.
I said that the stock kernel is good, the UmarosKernel drained my battery.

SensationXL Sense 3.5

Has any body tried out SensationXL Sense 3.5....wondering if the 4g works, and your overall thoughts on it.
Here, read that post by ROM developer.

I'm currently using it. I like it a lot, it comes with lots of eye candy and looks pretty sharp. The 4g is not working though. It comes with a built in daemon controller to modify the cpu speeds, underclock overclock, etc. By default it comes with the latest chopsuey kernel and it is set on the performance governor, so without doing any types of tweaks yourself I'm guessing the battery life won't be exceptional.
Seen that

Thanks, That is what I was asking. Thanks for your input about the ROM as a whole, I think I will check it out and see how much she likes it. Thanks again!
Energy Rom is the best sense 3.5 rom so far for me, really smooth and the battery life awesome.
Energy, Warm, or Root's?
So I've been looking at the Sense 3.5 ROMs, and was hoping to get some opinions on the pros and cons of each... my friend just flashed Energy and seems to like it, but I was kinda looking at Warm or the three versions by "Root" on themikmik forums... any reason to choose any of those over this Energy one?
