Baked Snack 1.3 *Curious*

I've been hearing a lot about a ROM called Baked Snack and have tried to do some research on it to no avail. I would like to know more about the latest version Baked Snack 1.3 but am unable to. Has anyone tried this? How is the battery life/performance?

Already been to the website. It gives me facts about what is removed and what is added to the ROM but not any kind of opinion on it, which is what i'm looking for. I know some of you use it. Any useful input would be great.

I'm using it. Works pretty well. Has some issues (what ROM doesn't?). Mostly the Launcher (doesn't matter which launcher) will crash and you have to push the "Force Close" button. It then recovers almost instantly and is fine for awhile again.
Honestly, even though it can run at 1.3GHz and you can surely measure the difference in benchmark, I really don't notice any difference in speed. Maybe some very resource demanding app might be faster on this ROM as compared to the stock ROM, I just didn't notice any lagging on either ROM.
Slingplayer doesn't work just right as often the sound and video isn't synched, but apparently the problem isn't the slower processor speed as the performance is the same at 1.0 and 1.3 GHz.
I must say I'm kinda miffed at Hero (the developer) as he has a website with a forum. You have to donate to gain access to his forum which I have. I cannot get him to respond to my requests to grant access to his forum. I'd consider donating more that the minimum but not until he starts responding and allows me access to his forum.

i used it for a while. its pretty sharp, totally themed with a black/green concept. very fast, snappy ROM. my phone kept freezing when OCed to 1.3 but runs like a champ at 1.2.
i switched to bubs aosp magic 0.4.1 to try out the more stock aosp android feel but kept the baked snack kernel for a while.
i actually then ran some linpack tests and switched to phoenix 1.4.3 to compare and the phoenix just barely edged it out with those tests (also OCed to 1.2) which surprised me!
overall i really liked the baked snack ROM, VVM works fine (doesnt on AOSP ROMs) but it was time to try something else out. i'd give it a shot, i might go back to it at some point it really is a cool ROM.
EDIT: i never had launcher or anything else FC on me, was very stable.

Thanks for the replys, have you noticed anything about battery life? I'm getting currently around 16 hrs with light to moderate use using fluffkernel ver. C.

I'm running a modified version of 1.3 with the mix up kernel. Its the most stable combo I have tried. I got a couple more bus to work out and then I will be releasing my version to the public

I used it for a bit, its cool but oc at 1.3 isn't too stable. Hero_over dud done nice theming too but i switched to heroic epic rom and I like it a bit better visually.

I use 1.3 and nothing force closes on me. Battery life is pretty good for me....I'm on my phone ALL the time and it lasts about 12or so hours. Personally, im stable @ 1.3 and if speed is your thing i get an avg of 10.5s on Linpack with the highest being 10.9xx...all in all is pretty good but everyone has there preferences. One more thing i will say, i don't agree without his forum setup/donation but hero has replied fairly quickly to me

Which is the best rom for me?

So i just found out how easy it is to change the custom rom. right now im on some 2.2 rom.
what is the big difference in 2.2.
also i heard the 2.1 roms have better batterylife and overclocking.
the 2.2 cant and there still buggy right?
so what is your guys opinions?

Everyone is going to have a different opinion. I have tried three of them and I like baked snacks with ultimate kernel. The only thing bad about that one is you will get no support here.
The other popular ones are Syndicate and Epic Experience.

Agree. It stinks and not sure about how many future updates it will have, but baked snack by far has the best battery life for me too. Unfortunately, my CPU doesnt like the ultimate kernel, but it runs fantastic with step2.

The best rom is easily which ever one is the most customizable. If you are going to use something like LauncherPro then it's all about which notification bar you prefer.

I started off with Epic Experience, then moved onto Baked Snack (gasp! #noban)..loved the speed of Baked Snack, but hated the theme and didn't want to investigate another.. (I just really love the stock look) and then switched to Syndicate (IMHO the best).
YMMV with Roms, just try a few and see which one is best for you with trial and error.

best combo I've ever used is backed snack 1.6 w/ ultimate. unfortunantely, there isn't much support. I've had to create my own post in the general section to ask a few questions concerning some of the things I've been experiencing.
also, syndicate and xtreme are great but I hvent gotten the best battery life with them.
as for 2.2 froyo, I'm just going to wait until I recieve the ota and then test out the custom builds.

I use Syndicate/Extreme. I've improved my battery life to something similar to baked snack by using a combination of setcpu (conservative scaling) and advanced task killer (auto kill on screen off). I unplug around 7 in the morning, and after a day of moderate usage I'm still at around 30-40% by the time I plug it in at ~10 pm. Good enough for me!
Oh, and I've tried the Froyo leaks, not stable enough for me...

Yeah man,MrYuiM is right.Gingerbread is a lot better and more nice looking.Froyo AOSP is ugly butt.Plus,I think you should release it anyway;New roms are always welcome around here!

I appreciate you've probably put a lot of work into this for your own use, but all your really proposing is CM 6.1.3 with all the crap removed and some tweaks thrown in, I agree with the latter posters that you'd better serve the community by getting your development prowess behind teamdouche in the push towards CM7 stable than releasing this.

already got my GB rom well underway, just finalizing it really (it will be a direct port of CM7 RC2 at the moment)

Hmm, he might be lightening, we never know. What we really do need is a CM7 ROM with Lee/Mike/Segio's performance and tweaks included. Now that is a ROM from heaven But Lewarne, your work is much appreciated

i have to say though im not that impressed with CM7+2.3.3
i find it quite unstable (tried lots of the rom ports on here) and a little laggy compared to froyo.
eg, im making the same basic rom (same apps, general system tweaks etc)
CM6+froyo - quadrant of 3300 @ 1.5ghz
CM7+gb - quadrant of [email protected] 1.5ghz
Now i know that quadrant is not a good benchmark, and is highly vulnerable to synthetic changes. However, nearly a thousnd points is a lot of variance, so i ran a linpack run on each, taking an average of 5 runs
CM6+froyo - 49 mflops @ 1.5ghz
CM7+gb - 45 mflops @ 1.5ghz
that is again quite a large disparity! visually, i actually prefer froyo as i find GB a bit too dark, and its certainly mature and stable. Even checked out the battery drain on my froyo rom, getting around 10ma or less on idle consistently, and thats with the standard CM kernel !
i dunno, would you guys at least like to try.look at my froyo build? im much more confident in it than i am GB at the moment.......

If u can get one of the recent battery drain fixes for cyanogenmod in ur Rom I certainly would love to try ur Rom, performance tweaks in combination with battery fixes sounds good to me!

i was living quite fine with froyo, before flash cm7, some tweaks are really hard to leave. specially long press in search button to open an app and long press in back button to close an app... and beside it, i'm getting 3~5 mAh of battery draining with mad patch in gb and with stock cm6 kernel it is 12~14...
these are the main 'problem' with cm froyo build for me! =oP
i agree with you that cm7 is really unstable when compared to froyo, cm7 has wi-fi problems, gps problem, rotate problems, radio problem... quite annoiyng to be fixing point by poiint.
if you realese your rom, certainly i'll flash, but i think your knowledge would be more appreciated fixing issues from cm7. =o)

I am sure the inspire 4G community would appreciate it as well .

I see where you're coming from, but also remember the drivers for the GPU for gingerbread haven't been released, nor have any of the other drivers I think. Maybe this could affect performance as the old ones are in use?

I know it's been maybe only 1 week with you, but how do you find it?!
How it is compared to HD2 in terms of build quality?!
To be honest i've been reading a bit in here and i'm not assured about it
It looks DHD have many build issues (without mentioning the expected bad battery issues)!
It looks it have issues with:
-GPS fix!
-camera lens misaligned!
-battery cover and sim cover misplaced or bumping out!
-dust under screen (which means unsealed gaps!)
-died pixels!
-...
It's really freaking me out! If i haven't touchscreen issues with HD2 i wouldn't sincerely think of switching!

Yo just to jump in. I have no problems with any of those, but I haven't really used the GPS and if there is a problem I do what many others do and install the GPS Status Toolbox Build quality for me is perfect and it looks smexy

ics rom issues

so ive been runnning ics roms for awhile now (since one of the first functioning cm9 builds were out), and im not new to flashing. but im a little unsure what i should be running that will fit my needs the best. im running slimics 3.7 right now with its stock kernel, and its great, if you get rid of their 'stock launcher' and change the screen settings, i just feel like i could be getting more. ive heard wonderful things about dark knights rom, but havent had a good experience and i dont know if its due to me flashing improperly. i started out on icssgs and it did me well....i just find slim a but of a step above (my opinion of course). but i find slim releases their updates before many apps become available to it. im just a regular user, i use facebook and web alot, and of course text, and camera, i also desire as much battery life as possible (of course) while running the best performance with what i need. Are there any suggestions for me out there for a rom/kernel combination?

+1.....mnics is a great basic kernel designed for everyday use, with a specially tweaked conservative governor for smooth ui experience, and good battery too

[Q] Optimal Setup for Nexus 4?

Hi!
I got my Nexus 4 three days ago.
My Usage Specs -
I use my N4 mainly for internet ( WiFi, sometimes 2G ) and a little bit of gaming. I make occasional calls and text rarely.
I don't use WhatsApp or Facebook.
I'm using STOCK ROM+Kernel.
I'm getting around 10-12 hours of battery life, with 4-5 hours of screen-on time.
Now, I want to be able to over/under clock & volt my CPU+GPU. This is to increase battery life and increase performance, as required.
It looks like too much choice is very confusing. So, I'd like some experienced suggestions and recommendations.
So, which _ should I use? ( And, I've already narrowed down the choices a bit )
Kernel - Faux, Motley, Franco
ROM - AOSP(Stock), CyanogenMod, Paranoid Android, Xylon
Also, should I use Battery, CPU, RAM managers? If so, which ones?
What are some cool, useful N4 specific apps?
Any other tweaks and tips? - You can link to other xda threads, if available.
I will be unlocking and rooting tomorrow, once I decide which kernel+ROM to use.

Ram and battery managers are not necessary. You have 2GB of ram. Battery saver apps do not work. besides you said you're getting 4-5 hours of screen time. That's great!

I understand that you are trying to prevent flame-wars and the like, however, I'm not looking for 'the best kernel/ROM'.
I want to know which combinations and configs other people have used, and I'd like some experienced suggestions.
I'm finding it confusing to differentiate between the variety of kernels and roms available, so I wanted some recommendations - preferably, with reasons.

I use Paranoid Android with its stock kernel. For me, no other rom can compare to Pa on the nexus 4! Not even cyanogen mod is as fluid, stable, and efficient. With my current setup I get around 16 hours battery life (5:30 am-11ish pm), with ~5 hours screen on time. I don't use any task killers or memory managers. I just make sure to force close all my apps when I'm done with them, and I reboot the phone every 24 hours to keep it at its maximum performance. Although my usage is slightly different. I use my phone mainly to browse the Web, text and occasionally snap some pictures and check instagram. Hopefully this helps you out a bit

Trinity and Franco kernel works great with PA. And so does semaphore. I use Franco kernel mainly because I get more screen time than any other kernel I've used. Franco kernel delivers a balance between smoothness and great battery life.

Okay, and you use PA too?
Also, how does the kernel affect smoothness? Shouldn't the performance be the same as long as you don't change clock speeds? Or is it due to the new governors that the kernel uses?
Also, what about motley kernel? The thread is very spartan, and I can't glean much info about it.
Has anyone tried Xylon? - it looks efficient.

I've tried the Franco kernel before but I find the stock PA one to be perfect as far as colors go. I've never had an issue with smoothness using it and I don't even worry about clock speed or governors. As far as xylon goes, I found it to be very washed out using the stock kernel that comes with the rom, again in terms of display. When I ran xylon for a few days, I ran into a few hiccups in performance that weren't acknowledged, even when running with different kernels. I've used PA before, on a HTC One V. It looks great, IMO too,

So I have experimented and tested most of the major kernels and ROMs.
AND..... My selection/combo for now is:
kernel - Franco Milestone 2
ROM - Carbon 1.7
I tried Paranoid Android, but I didn't really like their interface adjustments.
And, just CyanogenMod is boring, IMO. Xylon, too.
Carbon has great customisation, and the specific adjustments that I like.

Drivers with code from Code Aurora. They *may* fix stuff like slow WiFi speeds and delayed notifications. I personally use them but if you don't experience any problem with WiFi then I suggest flashing the normal ones. :fingers-crossed:

I think I'll use the normal ones.
My internet speed is 4 Mbps and I don't use my WiFi to transfer files at all.
At the moment I'm getting the speeds I can technically get. So those won't help me, I guess.
Also, I've been running R140 without any problems for the last day.

They're pretty much the same really. But Matr1x does wonders in benchmarks. I would love to use it however I need those Prima Drivers badly :S
