I'm really thinking about the HD7 but I'm also a big Android fan. I personally am teetering on the big hd7 upgrade or waiting for the big thing for Android.
Not asking for a Windows 7 vs Android debate... I'm just trying to see what your thoughts are on getting the HD7... Are you upgrading? Why or why not?
edit: Sorry for the incorrect grammar in the poll. I wish I could edit it.
It's supposed to read:
"I'm not sure, I'll wait to see..."
Don't you think it would be better to ask the question after the HD7 is widely available?
It just seems that the question is a little silly when no-one has really had time with the machine...
It's the same phone with video out and a more restricted OS. Why would I switch?
I agree with Smail. Not much of an upgrade really.
it looks like a bull dog licking piss off a stinging nettle, no thanks!
No thanks, primarily because of the WM7. I would probably think of getting a WM7 device IF it was backward compatible with WM6 apps, but now i am not even looking in that direction.
i wouldnt really say that its an "upgrade". Its more or less the same phone. Tbh i prefer HD2 because of its current "development state"(android and maybe windows phone) and customizations. Hd7 seems more "restricting" to me for some reason :S
I can think a few positive points:
1. It is less buggy
2. Smoother
3. apps apps apps
4. Over the air updates (very important) and not waiting months anymore
5. It is all integrated. Select a word in a document/web and you can find it instantly on bing. Select an adres directly into your navigation etc etc
6. MS will eventually stop support for WM6.5
7. No developers for WM6.5 anymore (like angry birds)
95% of the people don't care about customising their phone. It just has to work.
iPhone has proven that.

No, iPhone has proven that the lazy, unimaginative people who fall for glitzy advertizing buy iPhones. The number of members here and active members as shown below indicates there is a healthy worldwide market for the smart, inquisitive, adventurous sorts...

the fact is:
1. new things are always more buggy.
2. new os always consume more resource, as HD7 has the same hardware spec with HD2, it means HD7 with WP7 is less smoother than HD2 with WM6 or same with HD2 with WP7.
3. apps? are you kidding!? where are apps for WP7? I can't even see it...
4. continue updates? it's just one promise of MS (even not a official promise), but how? these updates are what you need? what you need will be updated? all HD2 user want a update to WP7, but MS say NO to everyone... so your can just hope MS will give you a update what you want, or even no hope...
5. frankly, google dose this much better than MS, if you use your phone for this, your best choice is andriod.
6. that's definitly true! like the way which MS always use to his costumers. but this tragedy will be repeated on WP7 soon, when MS wants to make more money from WP8, 9 10...
7. you are right, some day, there won't have developers for WM6.5 anymore, but when? it's a game about time, isn't it? I will enjoy my WM6.5 with thousand free apps for a long time till they can't fit my daily use, then I will swicth directly to the newest phone with best OS and hardware (MS or not).
if WP7 can just do some thing what has been done by Iphone, why I need a WP7!? I should go directly to Iphone!!!
HTC WP7????
Honestly this isn't a device from HTC, its a Windows Device with HTC logo!!!
I mean be honest what is the big force of HTC??? >> There UI, okay sometimes it's buggy but it is a nice user interface! free to costumer or not.
And to be honest, the way we use/have multiple windows gives a nice and order overview.
Now came back on WP7 Thy talk about there own UI!!?? Eh I need a dictionary!!
I mean the creators of Windows ware certainly drunk when thy created this UI???
Oh yeah, HTC was free to make there own UI on the WP7, this is what thy have done/may done
My point is, way you buy a HTC not a Samsung, LG, ...
The answerer will be probably 30% the device hardware look and 70% the UI!
Now with WP7 what is the deferent between all other device??? Only hardware look, the UI is the same (WP7)
This destroy the free market, and only promote Windows Phone!
When HTC have create there own UI instead the one of Windows, than I'm preprepared to by a other device.
It's basically the same phone with WP7 slashed on.
No thanks, I'll keep my HD2.

My contract doesn't end until December 2011. So am stuck with the HD2 until then. Not that i'm complaining... still love my HD2 muchly!
If you like WM6.5 You should use it. Yes people are lazy but just a small part want to customize their phone. It takes a lot of time and knowledge to do it which not everyone prefers it. Thats a fact.
I'll stick with dual booting my HD2 to wm 6.5 and Android.
Stick or twist?
Well, I got the HD2 and I'm gonna stick!

netflix streaming, xbox live integration. An OS that is opening up by the minute, and doesn't lock up several times a day on most people....
There are reasons to switch. Not saying I am switching yet, playing the wait and see approach.

1. have you used a wp7 device??? I doubt it, because the reviews say it is very smooth and bug free.
2. It uses less resources according to reports. Where do you get your info?
3. http://www.electronista.com/articles/10/10/25/milestone.reached.in.less.than.3.weeks/
and that is pretty much before anyone has the device. Pretty good start and according to engadget (not exactly microsoft friendly), the best looking games are on wp7.
4. uhh, yes they have promised quite frequent updates, ala android OTA updates, and since all devices have minimum requirements, all devices will be able to update. Can you say that for android? How many devices have an official 2.2 update yet???
5. Once again, have you even tried a wp7 device? How can you pass judgement on something you haven't played with?
6. Huh? Devices from several years ago can run winmo 6.5. Devices that started on winmo 5. The reason these devices are no longer gonna be supported is a completely different programming language. Maybe you should try reading some.
7. so basically you are just a cheap azz???

considering 6.5 is still going to be the business OS, it's not going anywhere yet. Hence the builds we are basing our custom ROMs on like 21683 (just released).
Biggest complaints of android so far: lack of games and netflix streaming still is months away.

What do you guys think of getting involved in a class action against HTC/Microsoft if HD2 is not allowed WP7? Now that WP7 is announced, many software companies are going to stop (or already stopped) developing for WinMo 6.5 and we are left outside with an already bricked 2 month old device (it's not even out for USA). I don't like paying $1.000 (yes it is that expensive where I live) for a device which will be outdated in 2 months. HTC and Microsoft should be more loyal to their customers than that. What do you all think?
HTC and Microsoft never promised a WP7S upgrade.
If you're thinking about raising a class action for something that wasn't in the contract of sale, you are, as we say in Scotland, an eejit (idiot).
Sell your HD2 now and be phone-less for 6 months, then buy a Wp7s capable phone. Or at the very least wait for an official announcement on whether it will be upgradable or not.
they never promised an upgrade, but they never said that we won't be able to use WP7 apps as well. Even when you buy a desktop PC with Windows, you're given the option of free upgrade when the new OS is imminent, else no one would buy. And that's when you can still perfectly use all the new applications on your old OS. Don't you feel kinda being cheated, is it only me??
bricked device? it still works doesn't it? you've got a year or so before 7 really hits the mass market, that doesn't stop your phone from working NOW.
do you look at cars the same way? I got my Renault Laguna, it's made in 2001 but I'm not moaning because they don't let me upgrade to the nice shiny 2010 model engine just because i have an older version.
I don't get the complaining about being able to have 7 on their phone when clearly it doesn't have the hardware (4 point multi touch, 3 buttons etc) that windows 7 needs.
I'm sure MS or HTC will take the OS as far as they feel like before 7 rolls out and I would not doubt that some of the clever code monkeys here on XDA will be able to cook up a fantastic 7 ROM that will work in some way on our currently working and rather impressive HD2's
why are people complaining about not having win7 available on the device when it is out in about 7 months time? Did you buy the HD2 SOLELY on the basis it would have this upgrade in OS? Did HTC promise you that it was going to upgraded to win7 when it came out?

WP7 is not new version of WM6.5. Call it Zune Phone and it all becomes clear.
And even if free upgrade is offered sometimes with desktop computers, it clearly is stated as a part of the contract. Here it was not. If you don't like it, you should have not bought it.
I had thought of hanging on to my Touch Pro until WP7 came out. I ended up getting the HD2 and I've never had so much fun with a phone.
We are spoiled rotten in this community. I can get my device to do anything I want it to do and a few things I hadn't even thought of thanks to the hard work, generosity and smarts of the good people who contribute to these forums.
Come on! We don't even know if we will like WP7 yet! Enjoy the amazing device you have. Modify it, flash it, load a thousand apps on it if you like.
By the time WP7 is stable, usable and has a load of good apps, we'll probably be good and ready for an upgrade.
If the HD2 does everything you need in a phone what does it matter if it will run 7 or not? Especially if HTC never promised it would.
If its just for epeen status you're gonna look like gypsy joe anyway come the time trying to run a new OS on an old phone. Either way I am sure some bright spark on XDA will make 7 run on the HD2.
Also remember that WP7 is brand new OS with no applications at all. It will take at least a year till it will start to be usable for basic operation. We don't know how hard it will be to adapt actual applications. It might be minor modifications, it might be totally impossible, and everything would have to be done from the scratch.
Yes .. we all want new better WM .. but WP7 is just not that.
How many more threads are we going to get on the same subject.
WM6.5.5 is NOT being withdrawn and will continue to support the business users. From what i've seen of wm7, its "pants" and not suitable for business use, but thats my opinion.
I find it difficult to beleive that so many of you purchased the phone based on the pretence that it would be upgraded to WM7. At the end of the day, you will get it anyway - albeit not from HTC but from XDA.

you are right but most applications developers stoped developing for wm6.5 and starts to develope for the upcoming wp7 series so it is wm6.5 end (but not in an official way)
reasons why this bull
1 in the box which my htc hd2 was piece of paper saying that this phone would get a upgrade to wm7
2 there footage of wm7 on the htc hd2
3 the fact that ms always denie all rumours about all their products
4 no device has 4 point mutil touch if was the case this would be a big deal for microsoft as apple owns the patents for true mutil touch screens
5 windows specs change all the time and this is true for all software
6 the htc hd2 pro is coming out and professionals would want wm7
a piece of paper may say they will do 7 but maybe the rules changed and they discovered in the full release version they can't run wm7
i'm sure the initial idea was great but reality has deemed the hd2 not suitable for wm7
would a pro want an OS that's not allowing backward compatibility of their "pro" apps? no so maybe they'll stick with 6.5xxxx
have you actually tried wm7 yet? all this fuss and it might turn out to be rubbish then i guess you'll bring another class action against MS to say you want 6.5 back
whether it be Apple/MS/HTC they can't please everyone but to rant about it BEFORE the OS is out is pretty pointless. think logically rather than throw toys from pram please
I think WP7 will be business oriented. Only think they can do better then the others would be exchange synchronization. Otherwise I see no reason why would anybody buy it. And before new apps are done for it, iPhone will have new version, Android will be at 3.0 and another players may show up.

Sorry guys, I couldn't help it
this forum gets dumber by the day.
I'll Stick with 6.5!
Why does anyone want WP7 anyway? My phone works just the way I want it (now, after a few problems initially), it is fast, looks great and makes most other phones look like they were just dug up in an episode of Time Team!
I have just about every app I could want, running beautifully and doing pretty much everything I could ever need. If I was offered WP7 today I would say no! An untried OS with no software support for at least another 6 months (after release) and we don't know how customizable or flexible it will be... I'd be mad to jump ship from 6.5!
When I know what the new OS actually is, when I know I can get all the software I require and that I can make the phone the way I want it and that the OS is something I actually like THEN... I'll have a new device that will have even more bells and whistles and this won't be an issue...

There goes another 2 minutes of my life. When will I learn....
A group on facebook trying to get microsoft and HTC to give us wp7s on our HD2s
http://tinyurl.com/hd2wp7
please join me - something has got to work eventually
£500 spent on THE best phone anywhere and so don't want to buy the same phone again just with different buttons to get wp7s option.
Currently at 100+ supporters.
If you don't want it on your hd2 - join anyway - lets rally up support to not let microsoft or htc forget its customers and give us options. and show that the customer is what's important.
No thanks!!
I like multi-tasking, cut and paste and other features Microsoft will remove from WP7
have no idea what MS is thinking about...is it against history?
I don't want it.
I quite enjoy C&P, multitasking, and non-blocky UI. I'll pass on this one.
don't want it... reasons?
after watching the mix10 videos all about developing apps etc... wp7s looks quite promising.
I'm sure xda-developers community can have wp7 doing whatever they want after launch - they always do.
I tried the wp7s theme - hated it as I love my htc sense...
this will have to be developed into an app. so many of us will miss that feature and I'm sure htc won't let us down.
we have much to look forward to.
check the developers videos from mix10 recently.
http://live.visitmix.com/
no thanks, ugly UI, no multitasking, locked down.
I'll stay where I am til somebody gets android running on it.
for the last time....
it's never gonna happen guys. Even if HTC wanted it it's just impossible, and I'm pretty sure it won't get ported either. Here's why...
MINIMUM requirement of 8gb storage, no initial support for micro sd - maybe ROM would fit on our HD2s but if a micro sd can't be natively read by the OS then we won't be able to store very much at all, and I bet this OS isn't without a fair share of caching.
No existing framework for adapting the device to our hardware since it is build on CE 6 like the Zune. No existing software will flash our device and we won't be able to rely on flashing from SD card.
different hardware button layout. Strict requirements indicate that drivers etc will be consistent and generic and so in all likelihood our buttons would not work. other problems could be that being as a camera button is a listed requirement there would be no software based means of starting up the camera...so no camera.
We struggle just to get the newer WM6 builds working properly so how on earth anyone expects WM7 to surface on here is beyond me.
That Facebook group is no less a pointless endeavor than Farmville; which is probably more realistic.
People really don't know how to get over it do they? Seriously sick of all the crap threads clogging up the forums of people having a whine.
Might as well Try and get iPhone OS on there - that only uses a 500mb /system partition so we'd have 12mb free for apps ;-)
Majority of people has no clue what having freedom is like.
We know better. Now that I'm using an actual open platform, I can't go back. No, I will not go back.
I don't want it either.
And even if it turns out to be good, I'd want it to get a bit mature before getting it, so that there is an app offer and the bugs are ironed out (remenber everything MS did, except Windows 7 that now already works great, wasn't reliable until SP1!). So by that time (1-2 years from now) there will certainly be another great phone to replace the HD2.
Fighting for WM7P is like petition to cut half of function just because that new OS is launched.
Do You always choose what's newest on market but not what's best ?
I like aspects of WM7 but taking out cut and paste and gimping multi tasking is lame and seems to go against the business and heavy users that have supported MS and the WM OS for so long. Not to mention HTC's UI is so well done and worth hanging on to... even if it gets customized itself.
The semi multi tasking aspects of WM7 could work, but there are programs I want to run at once and easily be able to switch between actively. Instant messaging, browsing, and reading RSS all at once should be possible. Doesnt kill my Fuse and doesnt require me to pause or close one then open the other and back and forth.
I'll take the HD2 as it is for now.
There are rummors that new WinMo7 will not have calling functionality, at least not in the first release. But, who cares ! It will be new ! Let's flash it !

nice. very nicely done.
It does amaze Me theses new and "greater" windows operating systems seem to look pretty but slowly loose the functionality of the previous versions.. classic example Win 7 compared to the best OS they ever released! Windows XP

Cant say i want WM7 on my HD2 as its like going back two steps, i will leave the WM7 FB group to the upgrade junkies.
Why o why?
The specs are good, so why can't we all get offically the wm7 upgrade?
I know there will be custom roms but no offence to the developpers, they are all ****ty. Every custom rom I had I need to hard reset my device every two weeks so that won't be a option for me anymore.
MICROSOFT PLEASE DON'T BE STUPID!!!!

Specs are good, but hardware requirements are not met by the HD2, now what does that mean, well it means that HTC did not look ahead, and used the wrong button configuration on the phone, so it is outside the spec of what MS says is required for WP7.
So yes we are Officially screwed out of WP7 because of the buttons on our phones .....
I doubt MS is going to change their requirements for the very few existing WinMo phones that have the CPU and RAM to handle WP7.
The hard resetting you have to do every couple weeks may have more to do with WinMo 6.5.x than the fact that it's a custom ROM. I'm sure we'll get near-stock WP7 ROMs that will function much better than what we currently have. Don't lament before we even have anything on that front.
I don't think wp7 will even be a viable option for most of us anyways (at least the initial release). Very locked down, sounds a lot like the first iphone. I'm hoping they update quickly and open it up (at least every 2-3 months), but I wouldn't hold my breath.
That is why I decided to take the plunge with the hd2. Figured it would be a couple of years before I was ready to jump on wp7. (though that 1.5ghz snapdragon htc sounds interesting and apparently is coming to t-mobile...)

The reason I want to have It Is this:
I read that Windows Mobile 6.5 is based on all the old previous versions, based on CE blabla (I don't know It exactly anymore) so there Is alot of old junk that is not needed anymore.
The new Winmo 7 is totally new so therefore It should be allot faster then all the previous versions.
Please tell me If I'm wrong..

For me, tinkering is fun, but that is not the main function of my work device. I want it to work, and work well. If that means giving up a couple features, features which I can live without, then I'll play ball. WP7 has been built from the ground up with a very different goal than Windows Mobile, which had the original goal of bringing the PC to a PDA format. I don't need that, and the functionality that is associated with that goal gets in the way of usability for my purposes. If your use cases do not match up with what WP7 is capable of, so be it, but know that the vast majority of customers aren't tinkerers and tweakers.

"alot of old junk" in WM 6.5? Oh yes - like copy & paste, and proper multitasking? If you think that's junk, you'll love WP7.
iPhone OS v1 was rubbish. v4 finally has most of what you actually need and what WM has had for years. Same with Android - the first versions were severly lacking in many areas. Only now is it coming into it's own at v2.2.
Anyone should be able to see that since it's a completely new OS, WP7 will be equally as rubbish as the iPhone and Android offerings were at initial release.
yes, BUT WM still misses a lot of stuff such as gfx libs for better programs...
like ballmer says... they need to lure Developers Developers Developers somehow...
iPhone is #1 because of apps... WM is last only because of apps... and WM7 is taking sooo long because MS's management SUCKS... they seriously need to hire someone better to get thier mobile dept straightened... look at kin... what it could have been if only those devs were still part of wp7...

They put in Terry Myerson a bit more than a year ago, but thanks anyways for the un-researched comment. He's been spearheading the reset efforts in WP7. Some like him, some don't. I'll reserve and judgment until WP7 is launched and tested in the market.
This is a stupid and pointless thread.

Why does windows mobile 7 not on the HD2?

Well, yes it is now, did not start out that way, but a discussion is one thing ...
But when people have convinced themselves of something , and just want to argue the point it is no longer a discussion ...
1.) HD2 Specs are great, but HTC did not adhere to What MS has released as specs for WP7, so HTC screwed us out of an Official WP7.
2.) MS specs for WP7 were released(but not to the public) before the HD2 was , so MS is not inclined or obligated to change their specs to fit the HD2
3.) We actually have 1 too many buttons on the HD2 but None of them are the almighty "Search" button, so again the HD2 is outside the spec so no official WP7.

Actually, the Euro version of the HD2 was released before the announcement of WP7. Still, I'm not sure if HTC was made aware of the requirements by the time they were already far along in the design of the HD2.

I had heard about the 3 button some time early last year, but you are right that may have been after the design and during the production phase of the HD2.
MS did not make an Official release of the specs till I think January of this year, I think that is when it was.
Either way , you can blame HTC, you can blame MS, but, it is true for any piece of technology, CPU's that keep changing sockets, Video Cards that keep changing standards, DVD/Blu-Ray standards the list goes, on ...
I mean providers are not going to change what they decide to to with regards to their specs and requirements just because people scream, I mean why can't I run Iphone OS on my HD2(not that I want to ), because it is not compatible, even though the HD2 out powers most Iphones, and just because Apple says NO.
I suggest, instead of getting all up in arms here, and bashing people for their views you contact MS and HTC and complain to them, not that it will get you anywhere, just as posting here is just gonna start a big discussion, but not fix it anyway.

Yes, sorry I meant more like management a while ago... 1 year ago is still much after iPhone released... they should have done something like WP7 from the beginning and if management wasn't an issue, I doubt we would see two different teams for mobile in the first place: Kin and WP7... I do agree however, management is seeming much better now...
EDIT: also, for hardware keys, all we're missing is the search button... since wp7 will have windows button go to the tiles screen which is also the home, we can map the home screen to search (Kind of implying home page aka bing/search)? If they wanted MS could have easily added official support, but i am sure HTC influenced them to do that... since that would mean HD3 sales for them... ahh if only i were rich :-/...

True, and I am sure some of the smart guys here will do just that for our custom WP7 ...
Sorry if this has been done before, unable to search(at work using IE 6.0)
However i'm not sure if Windows Phone 7 will come to the HD2, i'd love it to and i've heard its possible.
But there is one thing which makes me think it would never be done in the same way Android has, and that is Android is open source where as WP7 is closed source and therefore wouldn't it be illegal to port it?
If it can be done legally then I really can't wait to boot my HD2 into WP7 and Android as don't get me wrong, the devs will have no probs porting it if it can be done

Illegal
I am constantly putting custom roms on my HD2 with Windows Mobile versions that have not been released yet. I don't think that is less illegal than releasing Windows Phone 7.
An official release would be nice of course. Especially because I do not know if we can update WP7 if it ever gets ported to the HD2.
I have heard from several sources that in the development the HD2 has been used a test device and therefore the drivers and so should be available at HTC. The HD7 virtually is equal to the HD2 so a release should be very easy for HTC.
I still have hopes they will release it. Eventually the phone will be worn out and need to be replaced. If HTC has provided me with an update to WP7, my idea of HTC will be so positive that my next phone most probably would be an HTC as well.
If not, well then I hope that WM6.5 gets more and more stable and with cookie hometab 2.0 or SPB windows mobile shell 5.0 we still have a nice interface. I know that the new range of WP7 phones do not offer enough hardware advantages to justify an upgrade while I bought my HD2 for around 550 euro not even a year ago.
A reason why I still count on an official update is that HTC has not been doing much to update the sense experience so far, while on android it keeps getting better and more flexible.
A WP7 release would make up for that, if not, I feel a little bit deserted by HTC.
Also for Microsoft an update would be usefull, they would have an instant increase of marketshare. This is good for app devellopment, mouth to mouth advertising and eventually would help MS to anker their OS into the market.
This is a video from one of the main people who brought us android on our hd2s so i beleive it to be real.

Well.. If HTC were to release an OFFICIAL update of WinMo7 then people won't buy the HD7..Of course you can also say that if HTC were to update their (not too) old phones they will bring more customers..
I, personally, don't like WinMo7..
It looks too 'simple' for me.. and I don't really like the design.. but we'll have to wait for some reviews and more pics..
lets hope sombdy at HTC just happens to drop da drivers for WP7 on da hands of a couple dev... an goes on wit der life... nody knowin who left em behind
Well if it is illegal just be one of the first to download it ;o
1 - Legal or illegal, I know I don't give a rat's ass about legality.
2 - BE OPTIMISTIC, COTULLA IS JESUS OF CODING.
3 - I sure hope it will come to the HD2
Well I hope someone does port WP7 to the HD2, especially as I've looked at the specs for the HTC HD7 and apart from having build in 8/16gb expanded memory the specs are identical!!! I thought the whole point of WP7 and HTC denying any statement that they would port it back to the HD2 was that the CPU would be a dual core snapdragon (if I understood things right) but seams this is not the case and there is no physical hardware problem with the HD2 running it.
I would guess the thing that will stop it at the moment is getting a Kernel sorted that would boot WP7 just like is needed for Android ROMS to run or a Radio update.
Personally speaking I can't wait to give it a go, the only reason I still run WM6.5 is so I can properly access my work exchange email and hotmail at the same time (+3 other email accounts) and when i'm in the car WM6.5 is perfect for playing music and using sat nav without having to look at the screen (found android audio multi-tasking lacking) but love the android for the customisable scenes, apps, widgets and more importantly, app content (love robo wars and angry birds).
It would be actually better on the HD2 than the HD7; I really really miss having a phone button on WP7 (you have to go back to the home screen, tap the phone icon, then tap the keypad icon...) but guess what? The HD2 already has one! The future is now!
Wp7 seems to have forgotten that some people actually like their phone to also at the same time be a phone (of all things). To be easy to use as a phone. To let you quickly phone people. To not spend five minutes working out how to phone people whilst fumbling on the touch screen on a rainy day. To let you answer phone calls with a (real) button press that your fingers can quickly find whilst pulling it out of your pocket, and (what black magic is this I see) the HD2 even lets you press a button to hang up a call! It's pure genius.
I really like the way an HD2 is built - much more than other phones I've seen - so I'd love to see WP7 on it.
And just to get it off my chest one more time.... Why of why oh why (oh why....) Microsoft did you get rid of the phone button?
well here is an interesting read for you guys (my email responce from htc)...

Windows Mobile 7 is a giant step backwards in 3 key areas
1. No native tethering support. What this means is ooops no connection to the PC like you have now with WinMo 6.5.X
2. No 3rd party app multitasking. What this means is when you get a call and the OS moves away from the app, it gets closed. if the app developer was not smart enough to save the app state, you're screwed.
3. Copy and paste. (This is supposed to be resolved). What this means is you cannot copy urls or text out of something and paste it into another place

1. This won't last long, it will come unless carriers block it.
2. Depends on the 3rd party app. Microsoft has already relented for pandora (apparently). What makes you think the app devs aren't smart enough to develop their apps properly knowing the issue of save state?
3. I've heard this was already fixed (or will be in the first update).
1. MS has stated that they will leave tethering up to the carriers hence it's missing.
2. What makes you think developers are smart enough? I can point to the crapload of buggy software already out for [insert platform here] that does not work right.
3. Should have been in there from the start, there really is no excuse for this most simplistic feature of windows to be missing.
Some things you should concider to think about before flash WP 7 !
This is just some of WP7 dissapointments which I experianced and why to revert back to WM 6.5 :
1. Activation stuff from MS ( I do not wont and do not need to "activate" to somebody my allready expensive HD2 device). As I read on net,Microsoft will have new activation policy in next WP7 phone update,so,nether WP7 modded ROM would not be safe to install.
2. Navigation looks like that children make it..Navigon is far primitive compared to Igo Primo.Lacks and mistakes are everywhere throughout it,very slow, not precise,no way to customise it...etc.etc.
3. Every kind of application has to be signed before any use or installation.
4. Zune software and bunch of unneccessery "addons" which comes in so called "Windows developer tools" to run from PC.You need to install Microsoft Expression,Zune,Microsoft games for marketplace,Microsoft Silverlight,3,4 SDKs,Visual studio Express..etc.etc.etc
5. Lack of easy access to documents,PDFs,files.Device become "Iphon-ised" and very "dummy".So,expensive device become dummy device.
6. Every kind of sync and use needs various hacks and registry modds.
7. Camera images looks like made by cheap 20$ idiot cameras.
8. No support for flash videos in browser. So,no Youtube.
9. Lack of "real" mighty programs....(I presume that it will be partialy fixed as time goes by)
10. No sharing SD cards between devices...
etc...etc...etc...
If you have to add something that I forget, please do and help to other users who are in doubt to flash WP7 or not.

I am sure you are a frustrate buyer of an android phone , because i dont understand how the f. you compare a SO with some months in the market with winmo 6.5 or android or iphone who is established in the smartfone market years ago. Did you forget the begins of this " spectacularry " IPHONE or Android phones, and so manny bugs they have ????

1. You will have activation issues when you try to run the OS on a non-supported phone. You ventured into it, so you have to deal with it.
2. For a 4 month old platform, WP7 is reasonably stable and bug free. Nothing, compared to the number of issues I had with my iPhone 2G.
3. Isn't that a good thing for a consumer-oriented device?
4. Zune, yes. Windows Dev Tools? NO. You have to deal with it because you want to unlock and sideload apps. That isn't a fault of WP7.
5. What is meant by "easy access"? I had been able to download a 1000+ page PDF doc and open in Adobe reader.
6. NO. Registry is not for you. If it was, MS would have built in a registry editor in WP7.
7. The pics I clicked were no different than the ones I clicked with Android. Yes, the shutter sound is irritating.
8. There is a YouTube app. No, two. One from HTC too.
9. I presume that it would be "fully" fixed as time goes by.
10. How many times would you want to use a $10 SD card in shared mode?

Agreed.
WP7 is VERY good for the first release of a new OS. I was seriously amazed by it. Can't wait for updates with multitasking and new features, and for when the homebrew community delves deeper in and we figure out more ways of customizing it.
Virtually all "lacks" of WP7 were officially known from the very beginning.
A disappointment is nothing else but a logical consequence if you start trying the new OS if you think it should have been "perfect" from scratch.
There are quite a few buyers of native WP7 devices with the same attitude, that´s something I completely don´t understand.
Considering the flawless port of WP7 to HD2, my first thoughts after installing WP7 were quite different: I never had any first release (of whatever OS on any smartphone I ever owned) which was even close to the smoothness and bugless functionality of WP7 on HD2. Yes, the camera app function is crappy, but then again, there is already an alternative solution from the devs.
We should be happy that thanks to devs, it was (and is) possible to run a trial on our current hardware for free - there is no other device on the market which has the power to offer the same.
I guess quite a few users will go for a native WP7 device sometime in the future, others will decide for Android, or iOS, whatever. But the good thing is, you can do it having had the chance to test over weeks or months.
And that´s the good thing about HD2: It will be my electronic companion for quite a few more months, most probably for a total of 2 years. No other smartphone was good for me for so much time ever before. My guess is that for the rest of the time, I will be doing more trials with Android and WP7, while WM 6.5 is a nice fallback solution.
Oh, and btw, Navigon Select runs nicely here. It is a basic version. The full one will only come during this summer, I was told by them.
Buy a supported device then come back and rewrite this post.

But it doesn't run as good on the HD2... touchscreen doesn't work as well on hd2. Once the registry is known more and native devices start getting custom roms, it'll probably run faster on native phones.

that's such a weak argument, is virtually the same thing.
I have not experienced anything on my HD2 that an HD7 wouldn't do exactly the same except at times multi-touch goes weird. Any of the custom ROMs have most issues solved and have the registry edits cooked in, so all you have to do is flash and enter your activation code, just as if you hard-reset a native WP7 device.
WP7 is nice and smooth and I like it and I'm very happy to be able to use it on my phone, but till Mango drops it does have some issues that are OS-wide that prevent me from using it as a total daily without booting into Android from SD at times. That's not a knock though, I'm amazed MS put together a product like this for a first release. After the Mango update we will have more apps, more games, more custom ROMs with probably ability to totally change the UI if we want.
and @ OPs opinion that:
Activation stuff from MS ( I do not wont and do not need to "activate" to somebody my allready expensive HD2 device). As I read on net,Microsoft will have new activation policy in next WP7 phone update,so,nether WP7 modded ROM would not be safe to install.

what the hell does that even mean? you provide no evidence to this, just some nebulous claim that you "read on net." We all have activation keys and MS has no idea who has an HD7 or an HD2, so it's not like they can just stop allowing access to the Marketplace. They have been totally cool about giving us keys, but for some arbitrary reason will change that after an update? The HD2 crowd are buying apps and hyping up the OS, with seemingly no security issues at all, I haven't seen any pirated apps...
most of the OP's points are pretty worthless and flashing any of the custom ROMs eliminate any reg hacks or unlocking or anything.

Completley agree, I was going to reply to OP and rip apart everything he has ignorantly moeaned abo9ut but everything has pretty much been said already.
I must admit im a firm follower of WM6.5 and i was very reluctant to change to WM7. Ive had WM7 on my HD2 now for 2 weeks and im really starting to get into it alot more. Now that i have activated marketplace with Microsoft (which by the way was an absolute piece of piss) ive got pretty much all the apps that i used on WM6.5 apart from my Garmin XT which i miss, but im sure someone in the coming months will sort it out. You should re-flash it back to your phone, Activate it and get used to syncing with Zune. You will get into it fella. Its mint.
