[Q] Ability to select which images folders are displayed ?? - EVO 4G General

One of the biggest frustrations/issues that I have with the HTC Gallery is when viewing pics it displays ALL pictures found on your phone.... and categorizes them by folders (which is nice, but no as helpful).
Is there a way to manually set which folders be displayed ?
I hate downloading new ICON packs and once I extract them to my SD Card, my picture count goes from 50 to 250. This then leads me to having to scroll through all the stupid icons to view some of my pictures...
Thanks in advance.
EDIT:
I'm aware of going in to settings and unchecking "All Downloads" however, this still shows App images and so forth.
As a side note this same issue is present witch the music player selecting all audio on the sdcard so when I scroll through my music widget, I hear Let's Golf sound files - ERRR

this would be great.

If you put a . (period) in front of the folder name with astro or something, its hidden. You may have to rescan the sdcard though.

Thanks for the info, do you know if by putting a period in front of a specific folder does this limit the functionality; i.e. prevents the app from work properly.
My issue is programs that are moved on to the SD that do not have a "." before them which contain pngs or jpegs show up in my gallery. if I place a "." before will the app still function ?

Search for a file called .nomedia , when you put that file in the folder containing pics, they don't show up in the gallery.

I wasn't sure, so I added a period to the folder that my cubed album cover images are in. They ended up disappearing from my gallery, but still showed up in cubed.
I think loungelizard might have a simpler solution though.

Theres an app in the market called nomedia that makes putting the nomedia file in a folder easier

I have some pictures of my girlfriend when shes naked on my phone and i dont like that when i open my photos & videos first thing you see is my girlfriend naked. Its pretty annoying if my friends uses my phone and i cant let them go see pictures becouse im not that kind of boyfriend So is there any way to hide pictures / make folder with password? And sorry for my bad english i hope you guys understand.
like your honesty!!!
using file explorer.. go to...
(depending where your pictures are stored)
cut and paste the pictures contained in DCIM\100media\
into a new folder somewhere else on the storage card.. and it will no longer appear in the image gallery

Mate - have a look at this, in the hits & tips thread linked in my sig...
64. Disable Unwanted Folders From Showing in HTC Album
It just hides a folder from the album app. You can still manually browse to it with file explorer, for example, and open images from there.
Hope this helps

Haha =D you wish
i edited thet registry key but i'm having troubles.. while it is actually hiding pictures in htc album, they are still showing up in manila's tab, am i doing something wrong?
WinRar the files. You can even put a password on it so that if you loose the phone no one can see the pics. I found it the easiest and most secure way to hide your girlfriends pictures.

Free app to protect pictures
Hi,
Search for an app called FreeOTFE4PDA. It allows you to create a fully encrypted, password protected folder on your card. This can then be mounted as a storage card when needed. Within this you can create folder and do anything else you can do on a storage card. The important part is of course that you can not mount it if you do not know the password.
Regards
i run both windows and android, so what i'm trying to do is to hide android's gallery cache files (why did developers think that using readable jpg files as cache would be a good idea in the first place?)
that's the reason i want them to remain accessible for android use, but still don't want them to fill my windows photo tab with duplicates, so no rar storing can solve my problem
i fear i'll have to give up the 3d glory of android's gallery due to this stupid issue...
Use Total Commander, find the pictures, press & hold a picture, tap Properties, check the box "Hidden", press OK. The pictures can only be accessed through Total Commander.
It's a good thing my 900th post went to a good cause!

That's exactly the problem i'm having. You just have to keep the photos rarred while you using android. Not the perfect solution, if you find a better 1 i'm interested too.

1)Change the extension to some other (from jpg to ipg in example). So no one program will open it. When you need it change again to jpg.
2)make it hidden or system

[HELP] Sorting pictures on SD card

I've placed pictures on an SD card in media/pictures. Most are in sub-folders with only a handful with no designation just floating around in media/pictures. When I went into pictures to choose a wallpaper EVERYTHING is there. All out in the open. No groups. Even album pictures from my media/music folder.
What's going on? I'd just like to, from the home screen, hit menu > wallpaper > pictures and have them show up in groups so I can just go to my media/pictures/wallpaper folder.
How can I just add walls to the Wallpaper Gallery? What file explorer is good to get from the Market Place?
I've looked around but the answers are scattered and file explorers are mentioned but no one's said outright "yeah, use this one..."
rly? i mean rly!? come on now...
So much activity around the forums and no one knows what to do for sorting pics on an SD card or accessing the default location for wallpapers...

Hi, how is you VB. Coding?
I had the same issue and I just wrote a simple program to rename the .jpg’s in the date order I wanted.
I can post the code if you want? I think its possible to do it in VBA as well, but I found there was a lot more information relating to the .NET stuff
Thanks but I was really just looking for a recommended directory structure for the SD card and a way to get the gallery to NOT show album art for my music. I tried naming the folder .music but then the phone could not find the music!
Also, I have custom ringtones/mp3's used as ringtones on my SD which the phone loses after having mounted it to the pc?! I set a ringtone for a contact then at some point I mount the phone to USB and then I find on my contact that the ringtone is now "unknown." I tried copying the mp3's I most use as ringtones to the phone but I was told that it could not be done by AndExplorer...
Kinda sad at this point. :\

Gallery Shows All Photos?

When using Gallery it shows all types of pics regardless if they are photos, Icons, Defaults, FrmStart, FrmQuick, Popups, alarms, data, etc. Is there an app that will allow you to pick/choose what is brought up and displayed? I don't want or need to see all this extra junk. Thanks in advance.

The easiest "app-less" way to do this is to place a .nomedia file in the directories you want not to show up. You can also place a "." in front of the name of the directory (folder) itself, but this will cause problems if that folder is used by android or other apps.

I have the nomedia app. So, this also works for music and all media files, too. Thank you!

Used the Find All option for nomedia app and it only ID 5 Directories. Tried Multi-Select and it showed all directories. Picked the ones that I thought I could ID that do not contain Pics/Photos and that is most of them. However, even then I still have over 30 more items shown using Gallery that do not really contain pics/photos such as:
various apps, browser, common, controls, data, default, frmaddalarm, and other frm items, icons, etc.
So, this is not the answer to reducing items that show up in Gallery. Any other suggestions? Thanks again.

[Q] Xoom Gallery

Does anyone know how to hide pictures in Honeycomb like you could with Gingerbread/Froyo and before?
You used to be able to put a period in front of a folder (.video) and it would not show up in the gallery. I've tried this and it fails.
Yes, this is partially because there is pictures that no one needs to see (girlfriend and what not), but its also because I do use it for work and have pictures of NDA projects. If I'm showing a customer pictures of their project, I can't be showing the other pictures as well.
If anyone has found a decent work around please let me know.
Try .nomedia

did you try placing a .nomedia file in the folder you want to hide? that works for me. i just made an empty text file on my desktop then renamed it .nomedia and then copied it to folders i don't want to show up in gallery
I was not aware that this worked. Thank you guys!
False alarm I suppose. Did you do this in Honeycomb? i just deposited a .nomedia file in each directory and they still show up.
Ok I found out how to get this working.
The .nomedia method still works.
But you cannot create a nomedia file in Honeycomb, you have to copy it to your Xoom from the PC.
Once you copy the nomedia file to the folders you want to be hidden, you have to REBOOT your Xoom. Yes, for some reason the method won't work straight away, you need to reboot the Xoom for the effect to take place.
Unless you know a way for the Xoom to refresh the cache or relist the internal storage files.
Would SDscan work?
Sent from my Xoom
The trick is to rescan after creating the nomedia file. Rebooting is the easiest way but there are others (tools on market to force rescan.)

Or you could use QuickPics and set the folders to hidden
I used astro (free in market) and created a new folder called .data and put pics in that do not show in gallery. I tried doing this first from the PC and it did not work.

[Q] Random pictures from various apps

As the title says, my gallery folder is filled with either stickers from facebook messenger or ads from mostly i guess free games that show ads frequently, saved in a collection called "UnityAdsCache" Or "al"
I have already seen other threads about this but all i got was just to place a .nomedia into the data folder of a specific application, but whats the point if i have to guess and navigate to every single app that results in those random pictures and place manually a .nomedia folder in order to avoid them? That means that everytime i download an app that includes ads, i will have to place a .nomedia folder by myself.
Any solutions?

Glad I'm not the only one with this issue.
Usually those image files are stored in the app's data folder, which is a subfolder in /storage/emulated/0/Android/data. If you put the .nomedia file in the .../Android/data folder, all of the subfolders will be hidden from a Gallery app. That should hide most of those images. This will also cover any new folders added when new apps are installed.
Are you using the stock Gallery app? I use an app called Simple Gallery Pro that makes it easy to hide folders. It'll show you the entire path to the folder where the image is stored and give you the option to hide the folder higher up the tree. It also gives you the option to temporarily show hidden folders so you can find something if needed.
