As the title says, my gallery folder is filled with either stickers from facebook messenger or ads from mostly i guess free games that show ads frequently, saved in a collection called "UnityAdsCache" Or "al"
I have already seen other threads about this but all i got was just to place a .nomedia into the data folder of a specific application, but whats the point if i have to guess and navigate to every single app that results in those random pictures and place manually a .nomedia folder in order to avoid them? That means that everytime i download an app that includes ads, i will have to place a .nomedia folder by myself.
Any solutions?

Glad I'm not the only one with this issue.
Usually those image files are stored in the app's data folder, which is a subfolder in /storage/emulated/0/Android/data. If you put the .nomedia file in the .../Android/data folder, all of the subfolders will be hidden from a Gallery app. That should hide most of those images. This will also cover any new folders added when new apps are installed.
Are you using the stock Gallery app? I use an app called Simple Gallery Pro that makes it easy to hide folders. It'll show you the entire path to the folder where the image is stored and give you the option to hide the folder higher up the tree. It also gives you the option to temporarily show hidden folders so you can find something if needed.

When using Gallery it shows all types of pics regardless if they are photos, Icons, Defaults, FrmStart, FrmQuick, Popups, alarms, data, etc. Is there an app that will allow you to pick/choose what is brought up and displayed? I don't want or need to see all this extra junk. Thanks in advance.

The easiest "app-less" way to do this is to place a .nomedia file in the directories you want not to show up. You can also place a "." in front of the name of the directory (folder) itself, but this will cause problems if that folder is used by android or other apps.

I have the nomedia app. So, this also works for music and all media files, too. Thank you!

Used the Find All option for nomedia app and it only ID 5 Directories. Tried Multi-Select and it showed all directories. Picked the ones that I thought I could ID that do not contain Pics/Photos and that is most of them. However, even then I still have over 30 more items shown using Gallery that do not really contain pics/photos such as:
various apps, browser, common, controls, data, default, frmaddalarm, and other frm items, icons, etc.
So, this is not the answer to reducing items that show up in Gallery. Any other suggestions? Thanks again.
Hi All,
I am experiencing a media scanning issue with (only) a specific app (so far) - 9gag.
Whenever I download an image from their feed with the dedicated 'save' button, it will save it onto my internal storage (can't change the location of that, just like you can't change it for whatsapp), but it won't show up in my gallery.
When I try to open the imaeg in the file explorer, it says 'scanning media files... try again after scan is completed' - however, no matter how long I wait, I can't open it and it never becomes visible in the gallery.
I tried following things so far:
- reboot: it works, every time I reboot, all files are scanned and in the gallery, however, if I save further images, the new ones won't show up until I reboot again
- stop media scanning service and clear data: no effect
- rename folder: no effect
- rename image file: this works, it shows up in gallery
- copy/move onto sd card: this works too, it shows up in gallery
As you can see, there ARE ways I can make the images visible, but none of them is a sustainable way. I can't reboot or rename after each image I save, that's madness.
Oh and btw, all other apps do work, for example if I save files through screenshots, downloads, Facebook, Line or WeChat, the phone does create a folder in the same way it does for 9gag and the media inside is visible in the gallery with no problems, so it is very likely app specific? I also reached out to 9gag already but i don't think they will reply...
Any ideas or comments (please refrain from anti-9gag comments like I received in reddit lol)?
Have you tried a different file explorer to see if you can view/move the file?
I've moved away from ES file explorer cause not a fan of their layout. I use Root Explorer
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.speedsoftware.rootexplorer&hl=en
It allows for you to have two directories side by side (I use it to have internal and SD card) so that I can move files easily between the two.

Thank you, I have tried this app before, but with my old G2. Will try, but I'm wondering if that app has any effect on the media scanning process itself...
I have the same problem. The first photo i saved from 9gag showed up fine, after that, none of the other photos that I saved would show up. I didn't know about the restarting the phone part, to get photos to show up in the gallery. The only way i found to get the photos to show up is to download the app, ScanMediaPlz. After I save a few photos, I tap on the app, and the photos will appear in google photos. best way to get them to show up without have to restart the phone or rename the files. Hopefully it can get fixed later on so they show up right away in Google Photos after we saved them...
One more thing that i hate is that on Google Photos, it doesn't create a Facebook download folder. All photos saved from FB save to the camera folder. In the gallery app that i download it has its own dedicated FB folder with the photos I have saved.
Anybody know how to get rid of all the junk collection of non-photos in the Oneplus Gallery app. Or have a workaround in the stock software. The Gallery app shows photos taken from the camera app, and a " collection folder " at the bottom which stores a ton of garbage gifs of game screens, icons, etc that fill the folder.
Google Photos are NOT showing included in the Gallery app, and you can't share the Google pics from the photo app to text or share on facebook without saving them directly to another folder in app before sharing. .
If you open photos in facebook, the options are littered with like 1,000 gifs, of hearts, and emoticons, game screens, etc with the few camera photos mixed in from the Oneplus Gallery App.
I'd like to know where oneplus is storing these and wondering if I can get rid of the garbage " collection " folder or somehow replace that app as default to make the phone more usable for a family member. They love the phone but need facebook, and this is a major hangup for them that I'd like to help resolve. Can't find the folder with gallery folders with the explorer app I installed. They don't seem to be in DCIM. I may get my hands on phone this evening but any directions / solutions would be appreciated.
Thanks
I've noticed too so I'd appreciate it as well
still an issue.
It's been mentioned on Oneplus Website a couple times too. I searched the photo names ( long string of numbers ) and found the folder they were in. Deleted the folder and it got rid of a bunch, then deleted them individually. Slowed the problem but didn't stop it. Also tried to lock down the Gallery app from writing to phone with no luck.
Hoping they solve the problem pretty quickly with a software update or workaround. It's an annoying issue.
But I've not seen a resolution yet.

You should be able to create a file in the same directory as the icons named .nomedia (including the full stop at the start) using es file explorer etc. This informs android not to scan this folder for media files. I have had the same issue on previous phones in the past and this normally solves the issue. You may need to clear the data and cache from the gallery app to remove any icons already displayed after.

LOL well spotted. Corrected :good:
Found a solution that seems to be working
I did a factory reset - and chose not to transfer all apps / data / settings, instead downloading each individual app to phone along with manual setup. I also disabled the "Oneplus Gallery" app from writing to the phone in app settings, while grabbing a random Gallery app from Play store. So far, for the day, seems to be working. I'm seeing no stickers pop up on the phone.
< Crossing fingers >
I'd be happy if I can get rid of the "Recently Deleted" feature.

You're the man!! It totally worked as easy as that! I created one in the "Android\data" folder and directly on the "/storage/emulated/0/Android/data/com.facebook.orca/files/stickers/" that's it they disappeared.
Thanks again
The .momedia thing was pretty funny, you can imagine doing that and then android doubles the trash, you did after all ask for... mo.
I delete all that with this app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=uni.unseengallery.ke
I didn't have this problem with the 3 :-\
Every time I open Google Photos I get the question to back up folders with pictures of stickers, ads etc. I don't think this is a setting but a bug?
Adding a .nomedia file helps but they keep on coming.
Anyone else noticing this?
I'm having the same issue! Very annoying when trying to organize my Google photos. I have over 8 different ad albums. Deleting only deletes some of the files.
Yes. OOS 9.0 isn't generating the .nomedia files properly for those folders. There's two ways to handle this:
1) Use the Nomedia app from Google Play to hide individual folders.
2) Use a file manager app (not all work) to create a .nomedia folder in android/data. This way is a bit more finicky and complicated, but will cover all the folders contained within.
After you do either of those steps, reboot the phone, and those folders will be hidden.

Those will be hidden, but later we will have new ones. Hopefully there will be a bug fix [emoji106]

If you put a .nomedia file in the android/data folder, it will cover all folders created in the future inside there as well. The only other place I had to put one was for WhatsApp stickers in WhatsApp/Media/WhatsApp Stickers.
I do agree that OP needs to do a bugfix for this, though.

Thanks for the tip! Works great!
A week ago I got my new OnePlus 6T 128GB/8GB in Thunder Purple and so far I love every moment of it and the design, only app that actually is letning me down is OnePlus' own Gallery app.
I want to be able to change the picture shown on the folder in Collections in the OnePlus Gallery app for personal reasons, and I cannot seem to figure out why and I hope anyone here knowns if it's possible.
If you have Tasker I would try to use that to automate file moves. If you don't, I highly recommend the app, it's extremely powerful especially if you spend some time learning about it!
Create a sub folder where you put the photos you don't want to see. Main folder illustration image will not be taken from subfolders.
My OnePlus 6T ain't rooted and I am not planning to do so.
Oki I cannot get the subfolder inside a folder to work maybe I am dum tried with the file manager.
I tried a subfolder inside the folder I want and copied a picture to it and it showed up as a regular folder ??
Add an empty file named '.nomedia' in the subfolder it will prevent media scanning (with the . at the beginning don't forget it)

Hmm I want it to still be showed in the gallery just in collections I have a folder called like Walls and then a subfolder called colours or windfall.
It's just that the folder shows the newest picture in it and I am not happy about that. This is the only complain I have really.
