It's extremely laggy for me...hope they iron everything out. I can't even use swype to type in an address.

I'm surprised to see anyone say it runs well. I tried this when the beta was first released and before that in alpha and I've constantly (every single time) had hard freezes that locked up the whole phone, as well as, before the hard freezes, random slow downs and stops.
Glad it's running well for you, just saying it never has for me *shrug*

I will say that it has some cool features and I love the tab sync from other computers. However, its slow as hell and is a big battery eater. It's still a beta so I expect it to get optimized before release.

I'm going to reinstall it once they release a stable version because this is extremely slow.

Fennec (Firefox for Android) - out now

You can get it here, but it's crap and takes up 40+MB of internal storage!! And it's still beta
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/m/beta.html
it`s Fennec (aka desert fox) and yes it huge and crap
Even moved to SD card it was still about 30MB! It's also unusably slow at the moment, and it doesn't reflow the text either so I doubt it will ever be an improvement on the stock browser.

The size is ridiculous but its definitely not slow for me. The scrolling and zooming are very smooth. The address bar is awkward, you cant type something in without it brining up the whole bookmarks/history stuff, very annoying.
I really like the sync features. Having access to all the bookmarks on my PC is really convenient.
Its lacking a lot of settings and options though.
Overall I like it, but not good enough to replace other browsers yet.
I used it awhile ago, doesn't compare to the stock browser or any of the others for that matter.
Skyfire is no doubt the best.

remember guys this is still in beta, im sure before we get an rc, mozilla will have an awsome browser
It's good that we android users have choice. But until mozilla fixes the size & optimize the browser its a no go for me.
Last time i checked, it was a resource hog, not as slow as hell but slower than the stock browser and Opera.
Uninstalled it less than 5 miniutes later.
tried it and yes the size is unbelieveable! shall be patiently waiting for them to go out of beta.

Personally, I think this is a long way from being a beta quality release. It's a late alpha/pre-beta at best. I think Mozilla have done themselves a disservice by calling it a beta.

Most sites I go to seem fine but XDA in particular, the lag is always present. Not enough to bother me too much though.
True, I am mainly only experiancing it on xda. I might have to use their app.
I'm actually seeing this on a bunch of sites I frequent, this along with some other misc. slowdowns make me anxious for some OS updates... I cannot WAIT for CM and the crew to get going on this thing!

Do you have to do that on your PC...? Me either.
I am seeing a very annoying lag typing into forums like this (and others). 1-2 second lag - very frustrating!
Using the "about:debug" approach to disable OpenGL Rendering seems to address, but I am not clear what we lose in return.
I am also experiancing lag when typing in the browser. I think USAA and Netflix are the worst sites. I just got my xoom so I'm not sure how it was in the past with 3.0 but I think the browser still needs some work. The force closes in the browser are also annoying.
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium App
i find it worst on this site, but any site to fill in a form is crazy slow for me off and on, there seems to be no rhyme or reason. It makes editting difficult. Arrow keys would be nice. Lol
I do hve some lag on google talk but nothing like in the browser. So you're not alone
Helped reduce the lag
I disabled the Opengl rendering setting and then enabled the Normal rendering on the browser's Debug setting. Disabling the Opengl prevents the browser from properly playing the flash embedded objects though.
I have also been getting the lag on keyboard its very frustrating as its effectively reducing the productivity of a device that's designed to improve it. I am rather disgusted with Motorola for having the balls to release a device with such a fundamental flaw. I have dropped from 60 wpm to a rather disgustingly low 20 wpm! I have heard using a bluetooth keyboard negates this (can anyone confirm this) but I may aswell have purchased a laptop if I wanted a hard keyboard. I have also been having fun with the copy and paste feature when moving the cursor or actually needing to use it lol.
To fix lag follow these instructions:
Go to XDA
Scroll all the way to the bottom
Switch to XDA Classic instead of XDA 2010
Problem solved on XDA website.
As far as other forums I would imagine you could use an older version of their site.

Nice fix for xda but tbh this realy shouldnt be an issue and should have been solved before they released the device to consumers

this is one of my biggest issues with android ... while we get a lot of extra freedom and other stuff, iOS users dont have to deal with this crap because if something was this bad (typing from my xoom right now) I dont think apple would allow it to leave their hands. I love my xoom, I really do, but even almost a year since release, its still not as good (in terms of everything working like it should) than my mom's ipad 2.... just very frustrating to say the least

ICS is the answer. No lag. It's a beautiful thing.
Looking forward to ICS, only the fact the camera is not support stopped me from trying a ROM.
I OWNED a iPad 2, but maybe I am insane because I will never buy Apple products again and even though the Xoom is soon to be dated by the Quad Core Tablets I still find the Xoom better in almost ever way over the iPad 2.

[Q] Can internet browsing on NS be no laggy?

Hi dear,
I'm going to get Nexus S next week.
I'm from iPhone 4 so only my concern is laggy on the internet browser.
I know it's not all about NS but I enjoy to surf with my phone so I want to get no laggy on NS
Please let me know if there are any methods or tweaks to make it as smooth as iPhone 4 on the web browser.
Thanks guys!

Nope, the browser on nexus s pretty much sucks, unless you are using opera mobile you will probably be dissapointed coming from the iphone.
Web pages based mostly on text (like forums, or mobile versions of certain sites) will work well and will load faster then iOS, but pages like engadget with a lot of pictures will be laggy when scrolling through them.
There are some rumours about a new nexus with a dual core coming soon, it's best to wait. I recently flashed windows phone mango beta to my brother phone it's really good, better check that out too.

I'm Korean and I heard from korean website, next nexus will be made by Samsung and its project name is 'Prime'. But they said it will be released in 4Q so I don't think I can wait till that time.
I personally love WP OS(Mango as well) but next WP device will come out sooner than next Nexus device so.. I do not want to get 1st gen WP7 Device.

Better Gmail and Google integration, which is good for me because I use lots of Google services.
Free mobile hotspot.
Don't have to plug phone in to computer for anything ever, so no need to spend 4 hours syncing with iTunes etc.
Those are the major benefits for me of Nexus over iPhone.
you don't have a choice man, there's no fix for it. Opera is really smooth, and makes stock browser even worse when compared. if you don't want to use another browser than stock, i recommend you stay on iphone, really! for me, nexus s is a perfect phone, really love it, but browser experience with stock browser is a shame!
btw, the possibility to use another app by default is a great feature of android devices! why don't use it?! =o)

Oh... That's a sad news for me t.t
then do you think NS is superior to iPhone 4 with iOS 5(Which include notification bar and so on)?
I heard Nexus Prime(next Nexus) will come out in November so I'm going to use it till that time and then gonna change to it or to Mango Device.
What should I do? t.t do I better just stick with my iPhone 4?

How smooth is it?
The only reason why I would switch to a Nexus S is because it is easy to root and there are many different roms out for it. Otherwise if you're not that much into that stuff then stick with the iphone.
custom roms can be buggy at times and you have to be down with tinkering with your phone.
iphone battery life > Nexus S, well that's what everything thinks anyways, im not 100 % sure lol.
Browser on Nexus is laggy compared to the iphone. opera is good but sometimes it doesnt load up the page for me. stock browser is all around the best IMO. But the iphone doesnt play flash so thats the trade off. I dont are for flash but its worth pointing that out.
If you have the posibility to try it for a few days then do it. Im sure you will be pleased with it, its just that things aren't as smooth as in iOS since we have no graphic accleretation yet, its coming in the next update.

Used it on OG Transformer with paulburton's ICS ROM. The browser is pretty smooth, and looks just like the pc chrome browser.
I don't have enough posts to link to the file, but it should be pretty easy to find the apk by now.
i tried it on Sensation
its pretty sweet
we need ICS for TF101 now!
Does Chrome for Android have all the same security and privacy issues that Chrome for desktop has?
If it does, i'm sticking with Opera.
Google and Adobe won't support flash for Chrome on Android
Which is either good or bad depending on you.
I use Flash for live video so I don't like this decision. It's a good option to have, you can always opt to not install it

Works great on my Rezound with 4.0.1! This browser is sweet! I would totally dump the stock browser for this anyday, but I kinda wished they kept the darker gray theme rather than going back to light gray..
The tabs sharing with the desktop Chrome is F-ing Awesome! Like what Chrome2Phone should have been all along!
No Flash in Chrome for now. Adobe say they won't support it but hopefully Google will adapt it later.
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/02/08/flash_chrome/
Where be the tab stack? Do we lose that, another Tablet sacrifice?
Fairly stable for me. The only crash I had was with something like 7-8 tabs open (all XDA Prime forums, plus a few chrome blogs, LOL! I like it. A LOT! And typically I am hard to please, especially where browsers are concerned. There are way to many Android browsers out there that are acceptable, but not outstanding. Each has their own little tweaks and claim to fame, but under the hood they are ridiculousy similar. Let's see, I have had on my Prime, at one point or another:
Stock. - Works well. So well it bores me, LOL
ICS+ - A nice set of enhancements. I use it more than the stock webkit browser
Dolphin and Dolphin HD - I like, don't love it. A bit TOO slick, and some things frustrate me. It will be better when the HD catches up to the small screen version, I think
Opera Mini and Opera Mobile - What can I say. 2 solid browsers here. Mobile is a keeper. [
boat browser - Not imopressed, other than speed, it was buggy. removed.
Skyfire - I LOVED this one on my phone in early releases it was amazing. When Skyfire decided t charge me to see flash, I decided to cut them lose. Too many alternatives. It's not THAT great.
Firefox - a HUGE let down, but everyone expected magic here. Didn't materialize.
Maxthon. Very cool new browser.Jury still out on this one.
That's right off the top of my head.
Anyone know how to make the tab "Stack" appear in chrome, or is that only in the phone version, because we have the real estate to see the tabs. If so I am disappointed. That was chromes one big trick pony, and I was excited to try it. So far I can't see the button in top left to enable them, just a new tab button. Anyone?

New Firefox Beta worth trying

The new Firefox beta is quite impressive; it's way better than the crap they released to the play store and I thought I'd share. Enjoy.

Still really slow in comparison to Opera Mobile, and the Firefox rendering is flakey at times.
No real reason to use Firefox on Android right now when Opera is offering Opera Mobile.

For me, Opera Mobile is actually slower than the latest Firefox nightly. With the bookmark sync, it's sweet, fast and useful. Scrolling is far smoother than the stock browser, too. It's pretty much what I've been waiting for Firefox to do. Quick controls aside (I will miss them), I think I can finally get away from the stock browser for a lot of things now.
this is much better then previous version. scrolling is pretty smooth. can't wait for final version
I'll give it a try simply for the fact that it is open source.
It's pretty good, although it's not available in the market/play. Download from mozilla http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/channel/
I've been using Dolphin browser on android for a few years, and this might be a replacement.

The nightly has a setting to request the desktop site. It's not in the beta version.
FYI, there are a few versions: nightly, Aurora, beta, stable. Nightly is the bleeding tip of the sword, Aurora is the pre-beta, and so forth. You can have all versions installed seperately and they don't overwrite each other.
I downloaded a few, and these are the versin numbers I have now:
beta 14.0
aurora 15.0.a2
nightly 16.0a1
I'm sure it would help the devs out if you ran one of the non-stable versions and turned on the performance tracking.
I just noticed that the nightlies have their own link (see OP), and the more stable versions have a link (posted a few posts back)
It is slow and still isn't touch friendly. All the controls are at the top like a desktop application. The "tab" hack is pretty horrible.
