Before i start using SGS2 what have other users used to backup the firmware .
So far bare phone no apps and not rooted .
jje
from what i understand chainfire said that you don't need to necessary backup your original firmware as you can always download the full original firmware and flash your phone with it.
Where can you get the original firmware? Mine won't get past the bootloader.

It is possible. But xRecovery method is a lot better. You can create a backup, and if something goes wrong with a custom rom, boot into xRec and restore. Cake really.
How do you install from flashtool? From Flash? But that's for firmware if I remember correctly~
So if it is possible ! How to flash update.zip with Flashtool or any one other soft ? Because i want to try to flash Customs Roms without sdcard
Can i upgrade x8 1.6 to 2.1 using xrecovery, ie, by placing the stock 2.1 rom in place of a custom rom? Is it an alternative for pc companion and seus?

i don't thik so, because the 2.1 update has new kernel (but i'm not sure)
I'm really confused with it but i want to know. Thanks for the reply, anyway.
Hi Guys,
I am a novice when it comes to android. I want to root my SGS I9000T and I looked around a lot, but my problem is it seems like it is firmware specific and mine seems to be quire rare.
So here is my firmware specs. If somebody has either the stock files for this version or the files needed to root this version, please provide me of the link. And yes I did look on the samfirmware but it is not there. Or maybe there is a way to root that is not firmware specific?
Any help would be helpful
There is nothing firmware specific about rooting. Just flash speedmod k13e (not k15i thats GB kernel), then boot into recovery and root from the advanced speedmod option. Afterwards you can flash the stock kernel back if you want (It´s the zImage file from your install files) You use a tool called Odin to flash, many tutorials around on how to use it...
Thanks for the reply. I have a question for you: When you flash speedmod do you actually change your firmware? If so, that would be a problem because I cannot find my stock firmware? I am trying to root to be able to nandroid to actually get the firmware.

I already posted the I9000TUBJP9 rom on the other thread it's the official kies download , let me clarify this,if you upgrade to oficial I9000TUBJVE gb you can go back directly to UBJP9 froyo because have the same bootloaders ,but if you flash other rom than the official for the I9000T go back to the stock eclair or gingerbread

No, you change the kernel. You should also be able to root with SuperOneClick, search for it in the forums, you dont have to replace the kernel with this method.

Thanks so much! I am guessing you mistypes, but my current version is I9000TUBJP9 (and this is what the file you gave me says) and the version of GB I will be getting through Kies is UBJV6 (not BJVE), right?
So, if I update to GB and want to go back to UBJP9, all I have to do is flash the only tar file extracted from the files you gave me? The flashing methods I read were talking about pit file, pda files and repartion files. I don't need any of that?

Thanks a lot for the help. I read up about superoneclick and it should work if I decide to stay on Froyo but won't work if I make the jump to GB. I will try to see if the CF method or the oneclick method work for GB. I am assuming I will find a method that will root GB. I did read a little about the supermod you mentioned to me, but I got confused because I found guide to flash it but they said I needed to be rooted .

Well if what you wanted was to move to GB then why the heck didn't you just say that from the beginning and spared us all this useless talk of rooting your phone?? If you dont have a clue about how to do something then its best to say what you want from the get go.
In this case just download whatever firmware you want and flash with Odin, no need to be rooted. Make sure to flash a 850 modem afterwards to get 3G back if you flash a european rom. Check the stickies, plenty of guides on how to flash with Odin and threads with modem files.
Good luck mate.

You can go back and forth with Froyo and GB on Odin with ease. I've done it plenty of times, just make sure that you have repartition checked with the stock files correctly placed in Odin...

Well no need to be nasty! I was pondering if I am going to GB since the first time I did it did not go well, so I am weighing my options. I appreciate that you help me and but I do not appreciate the condescending talk. Everything you guys told me was very useful and I do want to root I was taking one thing at a time.
I read the forum( yes I did) and I have decided that it might be best for me to stay on Froyo for now. and I am planing to root to be able to try other stuff. So again yes you helped me and no it was not useless talk. Thanks again.

Is there a way to flash a sony stock based 5.0 Rom (like this) in cwm?? I have cwm and i'm on slimkat 4.4 at the moment...thanks! (bootloader unlocked, root aviable)

I got it.

Now i have a annoying sound when the phone boots, further booting time is very long.
No closing all button.
I hope i'll get Xposed working so i can fix these issues and turn off the LED signals
Edit: the boot sound can be disabled

Is it possible to make pre-rooted FTF file so we don't have to downgrade to KK and upgrade again to LP??
Is there's a way to root LP already?
Thanks All

You can't make an FTF file due to Sony's encryption. Best way for pre-rooted xperia firmware is thru Flashable PRF.
Soon enough there will be a 1 click easy root tool for lollipop for xperia phones so stick with stock unrooted for the meantime
(seriously it's been just a few days since the fw was released)
There are ways but only with unlocking the bootloader (no one click or whatsoever) so in the end the one above seems to be the easiest way... and it´s not that much time consuming to downgrade to .108 and upgrade afterwards...

Thank you for your reply, I don't think I can wait until a root method comes out, there are many features in KK that I miss, and a couple of annoying ones in LP I guess I'll just go with the downgrading method...

You do not need root. Simply flash .108, root and flash back 157. It is really very easy and takes only several minutes.

Welcome to XDA!!
To install custom ROM, you will need to have a S-OFFed device to do so. S-OFFing need hardware tools, and it cost money. XTC2Clip and FireWater are the two known S-OFF tools that work on D820 for now.

If so, why dont you ask that guy from The Mainland forum, he should be the most well known of his own ROM.
Afaik, without S-OFF you can hardly do any modification to the system.

OTA (Over The Air) and flashing ROM are of totally two different thing, OTA came from HTC herself while ROM are created by people like us. So now which one is you proceed to do, OTA or flashing ROM?

Yes, you can search the web with your phone's CID and download the corresponding fw, after that rename the zip according to your phone MID, and place it onto your external SD Card, then boot into bootloader. The fw should be automatically flashed then.

A TWRP backup can fix almost everything but not all.
