Hey guys,
I'm currently using MIUI and I want to switch to CM6.1, but I'm using Darktremor's App2SD and I'm not sure what to use to backup the apps and data and what to use to restore them.
I tried backing the stuff up with Clockworkmod's recovery but after I flashed CM6, I restored the data and SD Ext. only and the phone couldn't boot up the ROM.
How do I switch ROMs and still keep my apps and their data?
Titanium backup.
Titanium Backup, if all you want are apps and data.
Recovery backs up the whole ROM.
Titanium Backup used to work but after I started using App2Sd Ext it doesn't show any apps in the list.

I use enoms and dark tremor apps2sd with titanium backup and never had this issue. Make sure you don't have a any filters enabled in titanium and try installing newest busybox.

Hi All,
Sorry, I got a pretty silly n00b question... but is Titanium Backup or any other backup/restore app needed, if you just do a backup/restore from the ClockworkMod Recovery too?
Thanks
Sam
A recovery backup doesn't cover the apps you've installed, so without Titanium or the like you'll need to restore them manually.

This is wrong.
A Nand backup (recovery backup) through Clockworksmod DOES backup your apps. In face, it backs up EVERYTHING you have on your phone, aside from you SDcard. It makes a copy of your entire phone exactly as it is when you make the backup.
When you make a nand backup, be sure to mount your /system and /data beforehand or you could run into trouble. Likewise, mount your /system and /data when restoring.
As already stated, a recovery backup creates a full backup of your phones internal files.
Titanium backup should also be used.
Titanium is useful for backing up apps but more importantly it backs up your app data. This is a great feature if you change ROM's often as you can quickly restore your app data, thus restoring game scores, settings, etc.
You can also use Titanium to revert to older versions of apps should an update cause problems.

Very useful information I left out.
ah, thanks, so let's say I have a application that requires a activation code, and I switch from Fission to Liberty or whatever ROM, once switched, I can use Titanium Backup to restore my app, and I won't need to reactivate?
Thanks,
Sam
Is there a way to retain applications between trying different ROMS. I am sure there are ways where I don't have to install all applications all over again.
Thanks.
Use Titanium Backup.
If the ROMs you try are similar and differ just by version number, then you can skip formatting your ext3 partition on your sd card (if you use app2sd, etc.)

Using CWM is the best as backup & restore is quite easy...IMO Titanium messes ROMs alot if not used correctly...Just backup using CWM, Flash new ROM, get back to CWM and choose advanced restore > Data only...
Say for example, I have Angry Birds installed in my 'phone' (internal). Since it's too big, I decided to use App2SD to move it to microSD. Then afterwards I decided to upgrade to the latest nightly. In order to keep my apps, I used titanium backup. I have my backup directory located somewhere at the eMMC. If I continue on and flashed the latest nightly, wiping Dalvik Cache + Data + System/Data/Cache, and reinstalled Titanium Backup, if I restore my apps, will they be restored in the same directories? Like some at the internal and some at the microSD?
No, it goes into internal, so you might run out of space and not fully restore, suggest that you restore the biggest files/culprits and move them to the sd, then batch restore the smaller ones.
if you're using a cm7 rom you may want to check this out......
Im running s2e on my htc aria. it works great. loving it
s2e: for cm7 roms only.

or: not sure if it would work on other phones.

You can choose where to restore actually (in the newer versions)
Prefs> Restoration Settings > Restore Backup To:
Looks like the only gotcha's are it only applies to Android 2.2 and up.
Hi,
I want to install this rom over a old one:

How do I back up the old one and install this one?
And save all the info like Whatsapp, Facebook, Msn messenger data?
For me the best solution is Titanium Backup. Always does its job

It depends on what type of backup you want. Do you want to restore the apps onto new rom?
You can boot into clockworkmod and do a nandroid backup. This would backup entire nand. You would just simply then flash same nand partition and restore rom back when needed.
If you simply want to backups your apps/app data then you can either do the nand backup and then use appextractor to restore apps from the backup to new rom or you can use Titanium Backup to backup/restore all your apps/app data.

Really?! I've done this before and all worked fine, but I always use Titanium Backup as a failsafe method.

You are probably using a buggy version of CWM and it isn't backing up your app data from sd-ext maybe.
Or he's only choosing to restore sd-ext and not data too.

Thanks for your reply everyone. The issue is I am in the process of changing my sd card as I currently have a 1gb card. And most roms recommend at least 2 gb or more.
Yes indeed I do want to copy all apps/memory into new rom if possible?
I read a few threads on the matter, but replies are a bit confusing and not much info for HD2 in particular, so I decided to start a new thread.
I am considering the option of flashing an ICS based ROM such as NexusHD2, but would like to preserve my settings and apps from my current CM7 ROM. I currently use Dorimanx ROM ver 2.3.7 (CM 7.4.5) with highly customized GoLauncher, a2sd (1 GB partition, 256 MB SWAP). The device is the EU model.
I wouldn't want to have to reconfigure all over again so I was wondering what would be the best option to preserve my settings and apps to the new ROM. I found some mixed responses on the use of Titanium Backup. It seems that some apps would get corrupted and restoring settings and data from CM7 to CM9 using TB causes a number of errors. There are many other backup programs, but it seems that most of them are doing the same thing as TB and may fail.
Is there a good tool that was proven to work well in porting CM7 apps and settings into a CM9 ROM? What would be the best plan when doing the upgrade considering the current software details described above?
Thanks for thesupport.
Only a couple of apps have differing GB and ICS versions, and for the apps which don't, Titanium Backup has never failed me. It will backup all of your apps and app data, and I've never had any corrupted backups. Another thing which you could do would be to backup in CWM, flash the new ROM and then advanced restore the data.

I've been thinking about advanced restoring /data only in CWM, but wasn't sure if there are any other CM7 specific stuff inside. Thanks for your prompt reply. I'll be backing up all in CWM and TB and will be playing around a little bit. Still open to suggestions, though, so please let me know if you hav any other advice. Eventually, I'll be posting the results here for future reference.
Why do you want to do that?
You can use some backup app like Titanium Backup
