I purchased the 3M Scotchgard Paint Protector for my motorcycle...When it arrived I noticed that it would probably be 100-times better than the one that Sprint sold me for $20... and i could cut it to what-ever size needed.
Note: The protector that sprint gave me caused bad light-refraction. This one does not once set.
Simple tool - a pencil and paper: trace the inside edge of the phone (to build a template) Than transferred to the back side of the 3M-protector. Cut with a sharp object (Global knife in my case)...
Prepare the 30%-isopropyl + water solution (7tsp water 3tsp rubbing alcohol) ..wet a microfiber cloth and wiped the screen down. Note: you want to keep some moisture on the screen (note: water+electronics do not mix well..please be careful and remove the battery).
Apply the protector film...adjust until you get it right (or good enough in my case)..You can move it around at this point
Use the squeegee (use the microfiber on the edge of the squeegee so you don't scratch the protector) and remove the air-pockets/solution towards the edges. The microfiber cloth should absorb the solution as it meets the edge.
It will adhere pretty quickly, but takes about 4-12horus to fully set....
If you don't like it...make another one...you should have enough to do about 60 [That's like $1200 of screen protection! w00t]..
Hell, you can even use this same method for your notebook, camera, Car, motorcycle, etc etc. This stuff is tuff and can be buffed to remove scratches.
There's a hundred examples on Youtube if you're interested in some more projects.

I read that the screen on the Epic is nearly indestructable (or at least scratch proof).
I've only had mine for a little over a week and it's been in my jeans pocket the whole time and haven't seen even a hint of damage. My old Touch Pro 2 was scratched the 1st day after the same treatment.
So my questions are:
1) Is it necessary?
2) Does it impair the touch operation? (I love how responsive the screen is)
3) Is it effective?

1. I think it's just piece of mind. If the phone is always near sharp materials, then it may be necessary.
2. a good protector doesn't impair the sensitivity.
3. depends.
I don't use screen protector as it gets messy over time. I have nothing in my pocket other than the phone.

The glass is highly scratch resistant, but the screen still scratches. My first Epic lived in my pocket for 3 weeks before I exchaged it because of a digitizer issue.
I noticed over the three weeks a few tiny scratches that were only visible under bright sunlight at just the right angle. They were imperceptable during normal use, and I couldn't feel them. Cleaning didn't remove them, so they were defnately real.
My new Epic has a protector, RealLook, though I'm not sure I like the fingerprints. The responsiveness is the same. Seems effective.

Over two months, I aquired one scratch. I was able to remove it with toothpaste. I was surprised because toothpaste never worked for me before.

There are some cheap screen protectors out there, which are made of too soft plastic so that they'll get scratches easily which doesn't look really good.
So, can you tell me your experience with your screen protectors on your HD2 - do you have allready small scratches in it or is it fully scratch resistant?
I don't use one with the HD2, but the best I ever used on formal phones was EXiM Spuc. They feel a little harder then other screen protectors and I used one on a SE P1 for about 6 months with the pointy stylus and I sold the phone with the protector still on, I even had to tell the new owner there was one on there..
I have a new brando screen protector for HD2 but haven't used it yet. I use the PO S511 case from htc, so most of the time its closed..
Usually the anti-glare ones (check the HD2 accessories forum..i got it from somewhere in there) are a bit more scratch resistant. They feel a bit "thicker" than the clear ones...though I'm sure they're about the same thickness.
I use the FX-Clear (Folix) bought at amazon.de - it´s great stuff
i dont have any protector and no scratches. Its glass... there is even a video with ppl trying to hurt it with a knife and it's still fine after... Waste of money imo. Also might impair functionality and looks.
Rather than get the screen scratched, as has happened to a few people on here (keys & change in the pocket with the phone!!!), I got some of these...
http://www.protectionfilms24.com/article/vikuiti-dqc-160-screen-protector-htc-hd2-28087.html
They're quite thick, but don't hinder screen sensitivity (I'd estimate the reduction in sensitivity around 5% - it's that minor). You can also wash them and reapply them (if you can get it off!)
I'm terrible at applying screen protectors. I always get stuff underneath them and end up going through a whole pack and not getting one perfect. With these things, however, the fact that I could just remove it and wash it was a godsend! It's easy enough to remove if you've only just put it on, and I've now got one that's on there that you can't see. It's perfect!
I couldn't recommend them enough mate. 3 for 2 at the minute as well, so well worth it.

you pay premium quality, but you really get scratchproof device. you can scratch the foil with keys and you won't find any marks. using these foils on my iPods for 4 years and they still look like brand new! you can choose between screen only, or a full body cover.
also, the foil has a lifetime warranty!

they can be a real pain to get properly aligned but they easily remove,if required, and can be stuck back on again just as easily..it's just like applying transfers to airfix models when you were a kid.
any one with recommendation on screen protector
I'm currently using a Zagg max coverage protector that I had installed at Best Buy, and have no complaints so far. The only thing I've noticed with it is that my finger tends to get stuck when using Swype, but not often enough for it to bother me.
I don't have this phone but I don't think you need a screen protector. I haven't seen any videos on the screen durability test like they do for the iphone scratch test. But I think the screen should be sturdy enough. The screen won't be as smooth to scroll with a plastic layer. And if you accidentally get even a drop of water in the corners of the phone with the squeegee, you are screwed. Good luck.
Using an Invisible Shield on mine. This is the only phone I've ever used one on. I figured with a screen this huge I want to keep it looking nice.
You don't need you it is glass like the Iphone and hero. I have seen test's on both using key to try and scratch nothing happened. Anything that would damage the screen (scratch it) would go right through the screen protector and still damage it. As it would take a lot of force to scratch. Just a wast of money not to mention it hampers the touch screens ability to pick up your finger.
someone apparently water damaged their evo with putting on a protector. Careful. I would cover up the indicator on mine once I get it.
i have a zagg on mine and hate it. its sticky and has a "orange peel" like appearence. i ordered a hard plastic one on amazon and am waiting for it to come in the mail.
I also feel that a screen protector is unecessary...glass is very hard to scratch, and can only be scratched by something harder than it is.
Zaag one here and I think it's too sticky. It messes with my swiping. Catches my finger too much.

I used the same logic with my hero and ended up getting a few scratches just from unforseen sh!t happening. this screen is too beautiful for me to risk.
also whoever water damaged their phone while putting on a screen protector is an idiot.
I put one on for peace of mind and it works just as it did without the protector.
However, if it's like the iPhone screen, then you shouldn't need one at all. I had the same iPhone since the release date and had zero scratches as of Friday... it's last day in service!
We pre-ordered out Evo's at RS so we used out accessory credits for Zaggs and car chargers and I put them on. They do have an orange peel like look when looking at them at a angle with the screen off and reflecting off some light. But with the screen on and looking at them there is no issue with the display. They were not hard to put on either.
I'm using the "anti-glare" protector that comes in the 3-pack you get at the Sprint store for $12 (the other two are "clear"). I love it - it doesn't interfere with my user experience at all. Why on earth would you risk scratching your screen? To save $4 and 5 mins time?
Boxwave Crystal Clear screen protectors. I have a 3-pack on order (I have 2 Evo's between me and my girlfriend). We're using them "naked" so far until they arrive.
I highly recomend the Boxwave protector though, I have used them for about 6+ years on various PDA/Smartphones. I even have one for my P&S Camera.
Here is my experience:
Zagg:
Good -
Works well as protection
Hides fringer prints decently
Bad -
Blurs your screen a very small amount
Makes the surface feel like rubber
Hard to put on without getting a little dust under it
Generic hard plastic sheet:
Good -
Works well as protection
Feels very smooth, smoother than glass
Easy to put on, and normally you get 2 or 3 in case you make a mistake
Perfectly clear
Bad -
Finger print magnet, oil really builds up
You can see where the protector ends around the edges
Added glare in sunlight(small amount)
Unprotected Glass:
Good -
Feels very smooth
Easy to clean off, just rub it off on your shirt
Perfectly clear
Bad -
Medium finger print problem, but easy to clean
I feel scared to place it face down, once I get a case that recesses the face I will feel better.
Over all I decided to go with unprotected. Its the middle of the road and I feel the best over all experience.

Agreed, the Zagg is sticky. But I deal with it so that I can protect it. I don't have a huge issue with viewing it or the orange peel look when it's off because you don't notice it when it's on. The fit is nice. On my hero, I had a really clear smooth one from ebay which was great, but was all scratched up. The zagg shouldn't even mark up which is why i'm dealing with it. Sticky, but not to the point that it pisses me off. I put it on myself relatively easily, just spray lots of that solution on it, no bubbles, no dust, 2 minute application.
Maybe the Zagg is sticky if you put it on backwards but I have ZERO complaints about mine.
I ordered a 3 pack of anti-glare/anti-fingerprint screen covers from handhelditems for 7.99 (for the 3pack). They have crazy deals on evo 4g accessories right now. I also got a car charger for like 3.99.
I bought it more for the anti-glare/anti-fingerprints than the actual screen protection.
Warning!
There is a whole thread started on water damage and most of this comes from any screen protector that requires you to spray on water... ei Zaggs
When you squeegiie the water off the screen it leaks in to the back of the phone and Sprint has been sneaky about placing water damage indicator right on the tip of the phone.. below battery.
Either cover the indicator with protector or stick to the regular screen covers..
Hello all, I have a question about the gorilla glass on the DX. In your opinions, do we need a screen protector or not? I'd love to just have the glass front but also don't want to harm the phone. Also, exactly how many gorillas were sacrificed to make each glass screen? I want to rub it in PETA's face.

To use a screen protector...or not to use a screen protector.. that IS the question...
Um.. I think its more of a personal preference... Do you tend to be harsh on phones? Or do you take care of them.... That is probably some of the thinking you should put into the matter.
I have had my X for around 7 months, and I take it all over. I have not scratched my screen at all... Its really if you are overly worried about it getting scratched... If so, why not spend a few bucks to protect your precious investment!
I NEVER rocked screen protectors until I got my X... and that wasn't until I saw a scratch on a friends.....
My advice would be if you are going to get one, get a good one like steinhell or however you spell it.
If you get their top of the line it s also good at fighting against fingerprints.
+1 for sysadmin
and elevendy6 gorillas were sacrificed
If you are going to keep the phone in a jeans pocket I would say get the protector.
The SGP crystal clear you can't even tell it is there.
How easy is it to get a piece of sand in your pocket and it is harder than the glass.
http://chemistry.about.com/od/geochemistry/a/mohsscale.htm
get anti-glare ones, they show less fingerprints
Never used a screen protector or case. Never even bothered to take care of my phone. No marks on it whatsoever and I got it on launch day. Get a screen protector if you want to crappy looking layer of scratched up plastic over your screen. Get a case if you want your phone to be all scratched up.
Cases and screen protectors both do more harm than good.
My Droid X has proven very sturdy. It's been dropped, kept in random pockets exclusively (with keys occasionally) and has no scratches on the glass. The only damage to the body is a couple of minor dents in either upper corner, which have to be pointed out, and scratches on the back "M" logo.
I typically use a two-piece plastic shell, because I like the way it looks and it offers a little protection when dropped. I tried the Zagg Invisi-shield, as well.
I can't recommend the Invisi-shield, though. It went on with a little work and it felt fine to the touch. It was also only slightly more smudge prone than the glass itself. However, I scratched the protector the day after installation with a paper napkin. A couple weeks later, and a few bucks for shipping, my replacement shield was delivered with a tiny scratch in the center of the front side.
I say run without protection.
I have had my X since it came out. I briefly had the crappy Verizon screen protector/antiglare film on. I keep my phone in my pocket with the glass against my leg and have had no problems. For Christmas I got the Seidio surface combo case. So it isn't in my pocket as much anymore.
Ive had my X since before froyo with no protection whatsoever. I carry it like jgraham with the glass against my leg. I've dropped this thing on blacktop and facedown on concrete. Not a scratch on the screen. I have some nasty battle scars on the little ridge that protrudes up past the screen though.
I can't stand the screen protectors. I don't like the look or feel of them. If you destroy the glass somehow, just pay the $50 deductable or whatever. Well worth it to me.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
I also recommend the Seidio Crystal Clear protector. It's much more invisible, and less friction, than the Zagg InvisibleShield. It's also much cheaper (you get a 2-pack for almost 1/2 the price of one InvisibleShield).
I've been using the Seidio for a few months now and it works great. I can't even tell it's on my phone, except it collects smudges a bit more than the naked glass. But a quick wipe on my shirt removes them. Cheap insurance in my book.
I have a scratched screen - it's not large but one of those ones that is completely noticeable as the light reflects off it.
All I've done is put it in and out of my pockets and I don't have anything else in them!
I've read on here in the past that gorilla glass should not scratch unless you really go at it.
Has anyone successfully had a scratch/screen repaired under the warranty for something like this?
Doubtful a warranty repair would take place with a scratch on the screen . It is deemed user wear and tear.

I think it's sand. My previous iPhone got lots of fine scratches on its Gorilla Glass 2 too. :/
Sand is one of the hardest substances. Just below diamond iirc.

2 reasons:
1st - I'm yet to find one that I don't know is "there"
2nd - Every time I've tried to apply one, I can never get it totally dust or bubble free.
Exploring getting some new glass and fitting myself.
If 2 is true, I don't know how are you going to fit whole new glass on, which is, from what I've seen on youtube, x100 times more difficult especially if you use liquid glass underneath. Without liquid glass you may have issues.

That kind of stuff is why most people that know better and really want to avoid scratches (and potentially also lower the risk of shattering after a sudden shock) use a screen-protector. (mine is a very inexpensive one, my main requirement was to be easy to apply without dust or bubbles).

I always have a completely empty pocket dedicated to my phone - front right pocket. However I have a miniscule scratch, which I believe was due to a coin in the same pocket which was only there for a few minutes. Gorilla glass Shmagilla glass - seems like it isn't as strong as it should be...

I found that the best way to cover up scratches is to apply a screen protector. The trick to applying a screen protector bubble and dust free is water.
1. Clean your phone's screen, to really catch all the dust use some kind of ducktape/sellotape - magic tape works best as it doesn't leave any residue on the glass. Do this immediately before applying the protector.
2. Now wash your hands and keep your fingers moist, so that any accidental touching of the sticky side of the screen protector won't leave any finger prints.
3. Get a water spray and water the sticky side of the protector, alternatively put the sticky side under the tap.
4. Aim and apply the screen protector. Because the sticky side is wet, you can take it off and reapply if you've messed it up. A pro tip: If you messed up your screen protector, you can try washing it gently with transparent liquid soap.
5. Push the water bubbles out with a credit card wraped in a linen cloth.
6. Once you've removed all the water bubbles it can take around a day for the screen protector to fully adhere to the screen.
7. Congrats!

Fitting it yourself? U cant even put a screen protector on, and your going to perform a repair on your $750 device?
It's too late to tell you to bring it in to your carrier and let them apply your screen protector for free. Next time perhaps.
No would have sufficed as an answer to the original question, but thanks for your patronising responses.

I want to open a discussion about full glue / adhesive tempered glass case friendly. What do you think is the best and where do you buy it? let's discuss!

Glass ones felt ok, but left an air bubble (gap) between the two pieces of glass. Adhesive not very sticky, fell off very easily. Took off completely after 2 days.
Rubberized ones showed imperfections very easily, and felt weird. Definitely reduced the appearance of the phone. Very distracting. Took off completely after about 15 minutes of use.
I fully suspect these adverse experiences have nothing to do with a particular brand, but the solution in general... Currently have no screen protection on at all now.
This is the best full adhesive. It's alittle thinner than the average glass believe its .28

May not be exactly what you were looking for but, I used this.
Pros:
Perfect install, no air bubbles. No adhesive showing. The best one I've used ever in all the phones and screen protectors I've owned.
Cons:
Its expensive. The price went up since when I bought it from $30 to $45.

I've had mine now for about a month. Looks brand new still. The only main thing to be sure of is getting rid of the dust and any particles on the screen. They will show up. The kit comes with alcohol swabs and dust stickers. Removal is quite simple as it peals of like any other protector would. With clean up such as alcohol wipes. I should also note, that any minor scratches on the screen will be filled with UV glue that is supplied with the kit. This causes the screen to look brand new when the protector is applied. So that's a nice bonus if your screen has any scratches. Not sure if it could hide a deep scratch though.
If you get it, you should watch the official video first.

I'm pretty happy with it. You may be able to find a better deal than on amazon. You'd have to look around though.
There is some light bleeding from the edges of the protector, and is indeed quite apparent on light backgrounds. To me however, this is a small price to pay for the perfect tempered glass protector. This is the best protector I've ever owned.

The tempered glass screen protectors you linked are not full adhesive. The OP was asking about full adhesive protectors.
As far as the rubbery wet install protectors, if you only left them on 15 minutes then it's no wonder you weren't happy. If you read the instructions, they explain they can look bubbly and distorted for the first 12-24 hours. I'm currently using the Armor Suit one on my Note 8. It's smooth as glass, crystal clear, and you'd never know it's on there. My wife has the Illumishield wet apply protector on her S8+ and again, you'd never know it waa there.
Install it at night before you go to bed. Make sure to get all the dust off the screen, use plenty of of the application solution, and take your time lining it up. Then squeegee all the liquid out from under it. Once installed, let it set overnight. The bubbles go away after 12-48 hours. I've done these enough, I rarely have any bubbles at all immediately after installation. Any rubbery feeling goes away after a day or two.
