Sprint announced tonight at its developer conference in Santa Clara, Calif., that its Sprint ID feature -- which debuted on the Samsung Transform -- will spread to a couple more Samsung devices.
The Sprint version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab (which you can get Nov. 14) will have it, and the Samsung Epic 4G will get it in a future update, presumably on top of Samsung's Touchwiz interface. Sprint ID basically is a profile switcher -- themes, if you well -- that made their debut at CTIA.

Is it just me it do you realize this forum will get loaded with request on how to remove it

My wife has Transform with Sprint ID.
Even if Sprint ID app is pre-installed, it's not affecting my wife's phone because she uses launcherpro. It's not even running as a service once you use different launcher.
So there's no need to remove it.

Samsung Mobile Canada has announced via Facebook that "Android 2.2 will be released for Vibrant from Bell and Captivate from Rogers in mid-December, and for the Fascinate from TELUS in early 2011. We’ll post further details as they become available."
http://www.androidcentral.com/canadian-galaxy-s-phones-get-froyo-update-news
Hmmm... Makes me wonder if USA variants will get Froyo before or after that deadline. My guess is after considering we have no set deadline, but hey who knows.
Lots of apologies incoming to the OP in that other thread where he said it was coming in 2011, Lol.
Samsung said that all Galaxy S variants would get FroYo this year. Way to go!
The TELUS Fascinate is one of the newest Galaxy S phones, it's model number is the T959D. That's probably why it has a release slated for later than the others. It's the newest one, they JUST started to sell the Vibrant w/ 8503G (T959D) AKA the Fascinate this month.
Samsung Canada making the Froyo announcement before US counterpart is a huge slap in the face for Samsung US, especially since Canada joined the Galaxy S game so late.
I personally do not care when the newest galaxy S phone was introduced. Samsung confirmed that ALL galaxy S phones will be updated with Froyo this year (2010). The Canadian announcement mentioning 2011 is an example of how creditable Samsung really is, while at the same time making the US branch the worst of all.

In this case Samsung should not use strong words such as "will". This is basic PR.
At this point it's probably more likely that Samsung will skip Froyo altogether in the states and go straight to Gingerbread. Especially now that the Nexus S is official and running 2.3.
As a faithful galaxy s user allow me to weigh in. Samsung is going to update us back to donut. **** them. I don't care what anyone her says it's rediculous that a "flagship" newly released line of phones like our gets froyo so late in the game. When we get froyo, it will be as obsolete as eclair is now. Believe me if u look through my 450+ post u will not see more than maybe one flame, but **** you Samsung. You are self ensuring that u will be ur own worst enemy in the smart phone game. Samsung: bend over and kiss your ass goodbye, if u don't do something soon you will be out.

They are still releasing phones with Android 2.1 on them... For shame...
It's like they have only 2 developers coding the firmware updates for this huge corporation.
I'm waiting for Froyo for my unlocked T-Mobile Vibrant forever. I am in Canada and do not care for froyo for Bell, Rogers, and Telus.

When they initially said it, neither did ANY of the US Galaxy S variants.
Samsung probably looked at the dev section here, saw a bunch of Froyo ROM's and said: "Oh look it is out, what the hell is all commotion about?"

Only cause its the official google phone, which will always get the update first. And I'm sure its Google pushing it not samsung. If it wasn't the nexus, it would still be running 2.1 with touchwiz

From ComputerWorld
"Samsung Galaxy S [UPDATED 4/7/11]: All signs point to Gingerbread being in the cards for Samsung's popular Galaxy S line of phones. That includes the Samsung Captivate on AT&T, Samsung Epic 4G on Sprint, Samsung Vibrant on T-Mobile, and Samsung Fascinate on Verizon (which as of now has yet to even receive Froyo). Rumors started popping up in January that some Galaxy S phones could see an Android 2.3 upgrade as early as March or April. Samsung's official Samsung Mobile India Twitter account, meanwhile, has stated numerous times that the Galaxy S will receive Gingerbread -- version 2.3.3 -- but that a definite launch date has not been set. Samsung's Romanian Facebook page has issued similar promises. In late March, software said to be a leaked version of Samsung's official Galaxy S Gingerbread update surfaced on an Android developers' forum, heightening speculation that a rollout could be near. In addition to all of that, Samsung's Finnish site has now posted a news release stating that Gingerbread will reach Galaxy S handsets "in mid-April.""
Another good article to read from Lifehackerwith a spreadsheet of release dates.
-Troll
lol "Troll".
Well, let's see, even if gingerbread were CLOSE to being released, don't think of the Galaxy S as a sign.
First of all, the Galaxy S is Samsung's MAIN FLAGSHIP device, AND Galaxy S's are only released in Europe, I believe.
So therefore, even if Samsung had a finished product of 2.3 for us by mid-april, Sprint's going to have to add their crap to it and **** it up some more, make it even more buggier than Samsung achieved, and send an OTA that will have to be pulled the day after it comes out because it'll fry people's phones. SOOO, if we WERE to get Gingerbread, I'd say by August-Mid September at the earliest.
Sorry for bringing your hopes down...just stating the facts.

From SamMobile.com:
"Samsung has announced that both the Galaxy S and the Galaxy Tab can handle the upgrade to Android 4.0 when looking purely at speed of the device.
However the upgrade will not arrive on these devices simply because certain hardware features will not function.
The quantity of RAM and ROM in this is a big factor.
Some of the Touhwizz functions Samsung uses will not work when combined with Android 4.0 and one of these devices."

yup.. i'm running an early alpha of a CM9 based ICS on my Tab and it runs fine for not having hardware acceleration etc. So I know the same applies for the Epic. Sad that Samsuck just doesn't feel like putting the effort into supporting their devices.. Oh well, hooray capitalism! =P
So, here is their source for the story:
http://www.samsungtomorrow.com/2043
It's in Korean, and reading it through google translate of babelfish is good for a chuckle.
As I interpret it, they say that the Nexus S works because it requires no carrier customization , Touchwiz or region specific features.
Also, from the babel fish translation:
"The soluble memory dosage is insufficient and will provide a satisfied use environment
There is not a possibility.
This considers the hardware evening sunlight, use environment of optimum to the customers provision
Description below being a selection which is inevitable for to understand, wishes."
I think that may mean the phone is near end of life (hardware evening sunlight)
and customers wouldn't like how ICS runs on this hardware anyway.
Oh well, we'll see how CM9 runs.

Maybe, if there is an ICS port in the next 6 months that's smooth and fully functional I'd go there. But I'm moving on to LTE asap.
Just means no "official" ICS, I'm sure devs will have something for it. I would imagine that most of the people that know what they're missing will be on to new phones by then anyway.
Hopefully they can pull off cm9 for the gs series.

Samsung just keeps on giving!
This is just Samsung being downright LAZY. Heck the Nexus S is getting ICS from them right? And that is most definitely a Galaxy S phone. They just don't want to be bothered to support the Galaxy S line as a whole anymore clearly.
If we didn't have to worry about touchwiz... it would be here by now... why do we need it when the UI of ICS is far superior. At the very least release the driver source files so that devs can do it for you... Samsung needs to be more open to developers in that regard.

Keep in mind that this isn't just Samsung's pickiness about having their TW branding. This is also a product of carrier demands. Carriers do NOT like (for the most part) unbranded, undifferentiated phones, and they especially don't like phones that aren't preloaded with software that represents services they provide.
Frankly, I was always convinced that arrangements such as VZN's with the NFL required them to have the app on all relevant phones. The NFL is anal like that.
IOW, it's a LOT of different factors coming together keeping ICS off of Galaxy S phones, many of which are problems with how the smartphone industry itself has come to work, and targeting one player while ignoring the bigger picture--though it sure makes life easier for journalists and bloggers--cheapens the whole conversation.
www.change.org/petitions/wwwsamsung...ndwich-version-for-users-of-the-samsung-i9000
I'm thinking if we bother samsung enough with tweets about ics, they may give it to us, kinda like htc did with the desires gb update or unlocking bootloaders. Start up #neveragain again and get people to sign the petition and we may get ics (or at least galaxy s will, which may help us). We have comparable hardware and it is bs that they say our hardware is not compatible. If they start with the touchwiz excuse, let's tell em to give us aosp.
Most likely won't happen, but worth a shot.
