It's crazy. The phone is great, it's what I've wanted for years. I got it just today and besides having to get used to the on-screen keyboard I must say it is the best phone I have ever used.
The Rhodium, in retrospect, was a clunky machine, and one of the best windows had to offer. This late in the game though, just an antiquated OS. I am so happy to be done with a Windows.
Why the thread?
Do you, geeks that we are, find no one in your immediate circle who understands?
I got home and am soooo satisfied win my decision, no longer having to tinker and be OCD, I know, not very geeky. Just I think I have been spending a bit to much time modifying and not enjoying my phone. I also didn't want be in he hands of Steve and the fruit phone.
Any similar stories...
Mine stopped vibrating after 5 seconds, apart from that great phone.
Quick tip: Setup haptic feedback on the keyboard if you haven't already. It truly makes a touchscreen keyboard 5x easier to use/learn.
I'm basing my opinion on haptic with the N1 vs. non-haptic w/ my iTouch. It's nice to have "something" that tells you that you just pressed something.
Also, learn to use the auto-correct. Especially holding down new words/names that it normally "tries" to auto-correct. (Such as "app(s), Haha, and various others that the phone tries to correct to really odd words) (Haha, will default to BAHAMAS!!!... WTF?)
Just thought I'd try to be useful
I know exactly what you mean... I got a TyTN II and the first thing I did was flash a custom ROM so it would actually be useable... then, after about 6 months, I found out I could run Android on it... really well! After a couple months of looking at it, I finally took the plunge to see what Android was all about, not thinking I would be blown away, especially considering I was running it on a WM device.
What did I discover? Android ran better on my Kaiser than WM did! I was hooked, and a couple months later got myself a G1 to replace the Kaiser... The G1 still had some issues, IMO, in terms of speed and found myself still flashing customer ROMs, but it wasn't out of total neccesity at least.. and now, I have a Nexus One, which is hands down the best phone I have ever experienced! I don't even feel like it is needed to put a custom ROM on it, I have and will again, but the stock experience is more than fulfilling!
Mate, I get the exact same feeling.. No one really "gets" me when it comes to this phone.
It's just a phone they say, what does it do that your HTC Diamond doesn't? Seriously.. the only thing I can come up with, is it has a flash.. But we know it's so much more than that, don't we?
I've already been told by a few people; "oh don't buy googles first phone, it'll have lots of bugs, you should wait till the second release." Little do they know nor understand.
First moment I got my Diamond I flashed it because it had too much carrier crap on it. Who wants everything to be customized by someone else.. Seriously..
*Eagerly awaiting my new shiny phone*
I was quite surprised by no real bugs to be seen or heard of myself. I was wary of the purchase, but easily the best one I ever decided upon.
I'm still trying to see if the great developer folks figure out a re-lock... But every day I'm considering rooting... Ugh!
I can connect to my home PC (Edit: from anywhere with 3G) and mouse and keyboard around on it using the Remote RDP program for Android. I find this impresses people fairly well.
I'm fine with using Gmote for free to pull any music/video to my phone... Still haven't hopped onto the paid apps bandwagon yet. Still working my way through the free apps, to get a grasp on what I like, and don't like.
But, it would be nice to have even more control remotely. I'm just staying in minimal-mode for a bit.
I'm surrounded by iPhone and BB users, most of which are completely, utterly technologically illiterate--I'm talking about people who don't even understand processor speeds/RAM size, so they can't even appreciate how fast the Snapdragon is. People who aren't users of either want one. "Android" is like Greek to them.
I do know a few geeky people, but they're rare around here. :/

I did the exact same thing man. I had the first gen iPhone for about a month, hated it. Then got the AT&T tilt, and flashed a custom rom on it. I worked at T-Mobile, and my co-workers would say, I should just go work for at&t lol, then I finally got the G1 a week before launch and fell in love with android. Its the best OS I could have asked for and knew it would be a winner. Then up until 2 days ago, I finally received the nexus one and WOW, it is so much faster, i'm still shocked. I haven't rooted or installed a new rom because I don't think it needs it. It runs great stock. Awesome phone, that I think only us xda nerds know how to appreciate. It really a great device upgrade for those of us who had stuck with the G1 for so long.
Nice feedback
I made a thread saying why I moved in the Rhodium forum and should have known better. I just wanted to share. They are letting me have it.
But it is so true, this device is a great medium. Customizable, elegant, powerful, what more could we ask for(lets further he Convo)?
Glad you guys love it. I'm looking forward to getting one for my wifey while I get the HD2.
Well then she can hang with the best and you can hang with the rest
I tend to explain the phone as "a netbook with a phone feature that fits in you hand." The specs truly are that of a netbook.

No question... the N1 is the best phone I've had.
Love my G1 and still use it but my N1 is my dress to impress phone...
Agreed.
Noone has a clue enough to appreciate it.
Unlike the iPhone it doesnt have a hype machine to make people desire it.
For selfish reasons I dont want too many people having them. Id prefer everyone knowing about and wanting one..but few actually having it.

Im getting my N1 tommorow, and I feel like regretting it for some reason.. not for "some reason".. just because I feel like it will be old soon.. and after I just got it..
When will our beloved Snapdragon device finnaly become nothing? If there planning on releasing a 2GHz processor for our phones soon, i'd say maybe next year. Though hopefully not..
Other than that, this phone seems to have an incredible lifespan.. the only way I could see a better Android phone coming out is that it has a better processor (as stated above). Or more RAM, of course.. which has already been done.
Really, I just need some reassuring that such a costly device isnt thrown in the garbage simply after a few months. My mommy didn't want to get this for me as is =/
Alas, there is no way to cease innovation.
The hardware on this device is underutilized. The nexus is the snappiest phone out there. With the g1 and mytouch I could feel the lag, but on the nexus the nexus the UI is snappy, I don't know if I need a device faster than the nexus. If Google addresses the software issues I think this phone can become noticeably smoother and better in so many areas. With adequate attention from android this phone can be relevant for years. I think video calls will become pretty standard as will much better camera hardware and that will eventually put the nexus towards the back of the 'superphone' pack. The nexus camera is disappointing but from what I understand it can vastly improve with software updates.
Basically the phone is performing below its capabilities which is exciting but also disconcerting in that there is no dependable indication that Google will address the minor and major issues that make the nexus somewhat disappointing. Only time will tell, the potential is there, we just need to motivate Google.

Resell for $300-$400 and buy the next phone from www.google.com/phone unlocked and off-contract and BAM, back in business.

I didn't know/think someone would buy the phone for such a price with it being outdated at the time of selling. Guess it doesn't matter though, I will use your advice.
And thanks for the thorough post Maverick, your typing did not go to waste - I read it all. Didn't know the Nexus was performing under expectations - or not being fully utilized. Quite exciting, actually. Can't wait to see what the future holds for this device.

Oh trust me, people are definitely willing. Especially people that don't follow tech news.... Muwhahahahah!
Case in point, I sold my G1 last month for $160. I posted on here about it and others said they sold it for $200+. The kicker is that I got mine for $99 on Amazon, so after using it for 10 months, I even made a profit
Considering here in Australia, the best android phone you can get is a Hero, my nexus one is going to be top of the pack for some time, the best thing that has been annouced here will be the desire in april. But the specs are nearly similar, and there are pros and cons to sense UI.
This phone will last a while if it is properly supported by android updates.

Paid 50 for my G1 because some stupid guy at work thought that he liked his shadow much better, in January of 2009. Sold my G1 for 200 on craigslist February 17th, made huge profit. Too many ill informed individuals to take advantage of...... I guess it works for me.
That is all actually interesting! As a matter of fact, I have a G1.. I didn't think if selling it for 200$ or more though. I couldn't anyways, its in mint condition.. but I broke the screen. While it is still usable, I doubt anyone would want it. I'll just sell it cheap, lol.
Taking advantage of the not tech savy people, a new way for me to make profit I see.. niceeee...

Protect your screen! With a screen protector ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=618006 ) or a case! My G1 was in 99% perfect condition when I sold it (I dropped it once and the corner was a bit gummed up).
A few bucks on either yields a few hundred when it's time to sell. Worth it, isn't it?
You know what the sad thing is.. I have a case, the perfect case that would've caused the screen not to break.. but I was getting tired of having a case on all the time, and a few weeks, or days, after I removed the case - I dropped the phone face down - and that was the end of it =/ I would've been devastated if I knew I wasn't get my N1 anytime soon.
I learned my lesson though.. the hard way.

tomorrow..HTC Supersonic for sprint 4.3 inche screen, 4g ..
man i hope they announce it tomorrow
I'm not sure how many people have seen this or not: http://synapse-phones.com/order.php
I think that if everything worked correct on it, this would be AWESOME. Granted you are paying full price for the phone.
I do like this concept a lot, but i'm not sure how well it will actually work. We'll see when they start shipping in 2011. If the reviews are good hopefully they will get a lot of business and be able to offer super fast processors, OLED or better screens, and up to 5" in the future. It's like building the phone of your dreams.
I agree this is awesome. Would be great of more people started doing this, like HTC. That would be the shiznit.
That is a great idea, Im interested to see this in person.
That is some pretty slick hardware. Being able to customize based on your needs would be very cool.
won't work with sprint or verizon =/
this will be the norm in 24 to 48 months. mark it down that i said it. phones are already all identical itll be cheaper just to do it this way, higher profit margin for companies.
I said in another post a few weeks back that I bet that will be the future in smartphones, build them with universal upgradeable swapable parts like a computer, only smaller.

Just got to get the carriers out of the game, which isn't likely to happen very soon.
Apple is the only company to distribute a phone that doesn't get manipulated and locked down by the carriers, which is really more a testament to Apple's own locking.
Carriers need to get back to providing the service and keep their hands off the phones.
I dont know if its joke or not but there is first customizable phone i ever saw
http://synapse-phones.com/order.php
you can choose RAM Camera and all other stuff
If I was loaded with cash I would pimp this thing out big time!
Yeah i tried how much would be my own custom and 538 pounds
Pounds or Euro?
Either way it would be nice to get, cost about $850AUD.
Would be perfect if we can choose the screen type too!
maybe euro i only saw the cost
I will buy if it has the option of terga 2
really cool, mine is 518 which is reasonable
498 Euros for the one I want. That's sounds great until I convert it to USD. Then it makes me cry.
I wonder how it works when a new version of android comes out? Do you get upgrades?

I think I saw somewhere that the device is fully rooted when it ships. I Googled it for more info earlier today and think I saw it in one of the writeups I found about it. Links are listed at bottom of this post for more information on this device.
With all of the available options that I wanted it was gonna cost me roughly 500 US dollars.
BTW .... they are based in Germany, so I look for this to be an excellent device when they start production. They are taking pre-orders now to get a feel for the market I would assume.

yes indeed, a little to good to be true, i wonder why htc didnt think of something like this, to be able to make a custom phone to ur liking is serious business, all u need is to design a kernel that support all the hardware ur planing to sale. GOLD MINE!!
I'll sure as hell buy one! Looks like an amazing deal... 1 Gb RAM, 16 Gb internal, Wifi, 4G for future support, etc. Gotta love it!

HTC would never consider selling custom devices per order. Just think of the money they would lose if they quit selling to the masses, and by masses I am speaking of AT&T, T-Mo, Verizon, Sprint, etc. They are in the market for the BIG picture and that is all about quarterly earnings and stock prices, not making a BIG buck on custom devices that are tailor made for individuals like you and I.
I think that this new company could do very well building these custom devices. Once word gets out, all of the uppity ups will want one and it will carry them a long way in their success if that happens. You know how those uppity ups are, they aren't gonna drive a Toyota if they can get their hands on a Ferrari. It's a status thing and they will be a big part of the market for these devices IMO.
I hope they do well in their endeavor. All they have to do is make a name for themselves with a reliable and well built device. This one could truly be an iPhone killer if they play their cards right. It's already got any and every feature available that I can see, except for a kickstand. LOL

I really like the fact that you can have up to 32gb internal storage and then 32gb microSD ... 64gb total! This could completely replace my mp3 player with all that storage.

It is obviously a fake website. They cant even spell technology.
Htc would never do this because having a phone not rooted when it hits the user is a good thing for them since it allows them to control what is on the phone and what is not. Thus allowing them to add more features on the next phone update to draw in more people for the same exact phone...
They spell it technologie because its a German company. Looking at thier site, actually they look to be legit.
Eventually HTC, Samsung, and the other big manufacturers will have to do something like this. If they dont, companies like this one will keep springing up and taking larger and larger share of the market.
Think about it, if you had to spend $350 for 'almost' the phone you want, or could spend $500 for exactly the phone you want, you'd spend the extra $ because for most, a smartphone is a long term investment.
Even if this were a fake site, theres more to come because theres a market for it.
Even if youre not actually getting a better phone, theres plenty of materialistic douchebags thatll buy one just for the prestige of having a unique phone, to fuel a market for this
This is the phone I was waiting to get. Received good reviews at majority of sites.
But reading about all the nightmares on every forums, all the bugs, everyone returning/exchanging it,etc.
I played with one at store for over an hour and it seemed very quick with not too many problems. I liked but its not enough time to see all the problems.
The Bell store here is selling it for $0 now on a contract. That's how desperate they are to get rid of it.
So in 10 days the price was already chopped twice.
Am I really going to have to go thru 5 units to find a decent working one?
I can live with a locked bootloader for now but everyday a new issue seems to be coming up.
It seems like this phone is a year away from being done/updated.
What are the main problems/defects I should check on before exchanging for another to make sure I'm not stuck with a crappy model.
Thanks.
Wished Motorola would get their heads out their asses with all their products.
Come out with something good then they do everything they can to **** it up somehow. You can tell them you'll sell millions of their crappy stock and they still would not unlock the bootloader. That's how seriously stupid they are.

I have had ZERO problems with my phone out of the box. Same goes for 2 other people I know personally.
One just doesn't like Blur.
My brother used it as his primary computer since he got it and can't stop extolling the virtues of Webtop.
He's an IT professional and coordinated a 13+ site migration from one network to another ALL from the Laptop dock.
Some of the sites he was at didn't have wifi so he was using webtop over AT&T for his ONLY connection.
Said he spent more time trouble shooting his laptop the one day he forgot the charger for the Laptop Dock then he spent troubleshooting the phone or laptop dock for the entire 2 weeks.
If citrix is a big part of your life this phone could revolutionize your life.
No problems here. I haven't experienced any bugs except for the touch screen wigging out after a 12 second hold in one place.
It is a little disconcerting that Bell has decided to drop the price only a few weeks into launch. I hope the community stays strong because I intend on keeping it.
Ditto for me -- I'm using an unlocked AT&T version on Rogers network in Canada --- absolutely LOVE the phone. Came from a Galaxy-S, Captivate, and iPhone 4 before that.
This is the best one by far, and the best android implementation so far for me.
$0 on contract!?! holy ****. just get it!

andy2na and captaincanada84 are right, some people will ***** just to *****. With that said, I have done my fair share of "complaining" but it's based on my opinion. You really can't go to a forum and ask people if you should buy something because you are going to get both sides of the fence. Just browse the forum and pay attention to what people are praising about and what people are complaining about and try to decide from that. It's really going to come down to YOUR preference.
I love my atrix.
My only problem is the facebook contact sync because of moto blur, I am having some issues with it not updating my contacts pictures.
Battery life is awesome I am sometimes in disbelief how long the battery lasts 1 day + with everything on and actually using the phone which is a must..
My phone doesn't randomly reboot I don't know about other people.
As for the locked bootloader I'm not in a rush. I have launcher pro and root so thats all I need.
Previous phones. G1, Nexus one, Dell Streak.
Dude what Bell store is that? It's still $69.95 on the Bell site.
You just need to remember that nobody goes to a forum to state that everything is working perfectly, they only post when they have a problem. So, you have to keep that in mind.
I've been running my Atrix since it was first released and it's been very stable. My only issue is it seems to not like my AT&T microcell too much. I get dropped connections when on my microcell. Works fine eveywhere else. It's a huge improvement over my Nexus 1.
Also think about how many people are using the phone that don't read forums... So far I am extremely happy with this phone. I usually hate upgrading because there is always another phone better right around the corner, but you'll find yourself waiting forever in that case. My only dislike is the facebook integration in blur breaking contact syncing.

Yes, please tell. I know a lot of people looking for an Atrix right now and would kill for that. If I weren't on a great retention rate plan with Rogers I'd get that in a heartbeat.
Thanks for replies everyone.
I think a lot of the negativity is people trying to trash a new device or envy. Plus it gets popular to trash any locked phone these days.
I've been waiting to get this phone since it was announced. The 4" screen seems perfect in size. Had no problem looking at the pentile graphics.
Its just scary to see the price drop so fast, it rarely happens here in Canada unless something is a super flop like the Samsung Tab, idk.
But I'm mostly going to get it in a few days and hopefully there's a good future with it and developers on here. Always learn something new. Some people are just to lazy to play around with the phone to get the max out of it.
How is the overheating? It seemed rather warm at the store.

Yea I asked Bell why the price drop to $69.95 and they said "because we like to give our customers a discount", which is total BS, but it's not like they're going to flat out tell me the device is a flop.
If you want to pick it up I would suggest getting it soon because according to the Bell reps I talked to the sale ends on March 31st.

Patience All devices are judged pretty harshly at the beginning.. You just got to reap from the benefits with a slashed price!
I'm completely happy with mine- it's fast, the screen is beautiful and it's got more internal storage than I need. If you're not a fan of motoblur, gingerblur will make you happy!
Go ahead and take the plunge.

Its hard to believe they'll put it back to the original price after the "sale" with all the new other smartphones coming but who knows.
More worried about Bell taking forever with updates. This with 2.3 and then 2.4 will just scream.
i love this phone to death.
best phone i have ever had.
The ability to turn into a PC is the biggest plus. This phone has so much potential. Honestly what motorola does with the bootloader and such sucks, but so long as we can at least root/sideload, personally, I am completely fine with that.
Motorola also stated that every one of their phones in the future will have webtop. So I will be sticking with motorola android phones (specially once Tegra 3D comes out) for a while until a better company has a similar PC like feature embedded on the phone. Can't go wrong with the powerful atrix! Emulators and games run SO smooth... love it.
