Why why why?????!?! - Fascinate General

My previous phone was a Motorola Droid. As time went on it seemed like it started to get slower. Figured it was just my imagination.
Fast forward to the fascinate. Phone started out perfect. Installed voodoo and it was flying. Recently it started becoming very sluggish. I click on an app and it literally takes 3-5 seconds to even start opening the app. It just sits there like it's frozen after you press it. When I press the home or back button, sometimes I don't even get the vibration feedback. And I keep pressing it and then 5-10 seconds later I get crazy feedback like it just registered all my presses.
And everything just seems sluggish. My browser has always been smooth, now it's choppy. I don't know what's wrong...haven't installed any new apps, and if I did, I've already uninstalled them. I do battery pulls once in a while, but doesn't seem to help. I dunno...I love this phone, but damn.

just a thought, do you have a task killer installed? the built in one is good but I installed advanced task killer and anytime its start running slow i just hit it and it clears everything right up.
may or may not be a fix to your problem.

Actually, I just found out the problem.
When I showed my brother my phone the other day, he installed some stupid task killer without my permission. Some auto task killer app. He has one on his phone so I guess he thought I would want it. Just uninstalled that and it's working perfect now. Needless to say I'm pissed he did that.
I don't trust task killers. I DO use the built in one once in a while though to kill apps such as browser just to reset it. But when task killers kill a bunch of other apps (besides browser and games) it just slows down the phone as shown in my first post lol.

whats the name so we know to stay away from that one

Its called auto killer. And yes it causes major problems. I have done voodoo and OCLF and all of that but stock with LP it is faster than any of my previous phones.

Also after awhile your dalvik cache gets bloated. Go into clockwork recovery, advanced, wipe dalvik cache, good to go. I haven't seen any ill effects from this.

Phone just got really slow.

So my wife and myself both have the Fascinate. Both are running JT's 1.2 Kernel, both running LauncherPro, similar apps, etc.
She's been IMing me this morning letting me know that her phone is running really really slow, like it takes more than a few seconds for her to type keys for a text message.
I've had her do a couple restarts and battery pulls, but that doesn't seem to be doing anything yet.
Until I get home to check it out and see what's going on, is there anything I should look into that would cause such crappy performance?
Thanks in advance.
Autokiller doesn't seem to play nicely sometimes, if you have that installed.
(The lowmemkiller tweaker, not task killer).

I have it on mine, it might be on her's, i'll tell her to uninstall it if she does have it.
I have no issues with mine so far though, that i know of.
Did she reset the slider in setcpu to 1200 after reboot?
Just a silly question: not using the setcpu widget is she?

she isn't, and it's set to boot. that was something I was going to look at when I got home, but unless she did something to change it from set on boot, it should be fine.

Yea, until I can actually get the phone's in my hands, I have no idea. There is a chance she might have downloaded or installed something that caused her phone to wig out, she probably would have told me if she did though.
I also won't know more until she starts texting me back too. lol
You're running the voodoo kernel right? If so, the general consensus here is that the build of Voodoo that's in the currently released kernels (like JT's 1.2), slows down with use. I saw this myself. It negated most of the performance benefit of voodoo with time.
A temporary solution, is to wipe cache. I normally did a wipe davlik and normal cache, thru CWM. That speeds it up again, until it slows down, or so it seems... Hard to get definite answers on most of this stuff that don't go over my head.

There are a lot of factors that go into performance, and slow is something I refuse to tolerate. Lol. I don't know what your comfort level is with the various processes, but if I were unable to find the culprit, I would probably rebuild.
This would mean complete voodoo uninstall via adrenalynes thread instructions, and Odin to stock.
Reroot
Apply CWM
Either remove all unwanted bloatware, or just install one of the several roms. I'm running Jt's super clean without issue.
Theme and mod if desired
Once you're situated to your content, Voodoo. I recommend making that the last step.
I run SetCPU on custom, specific to the kernel you're using, and use Juice Defender beta, autorunkiller and auto killer with and aggressive main profile and an ultimate secondary.
I do also make it a habit to reboot once a day, just because Android in general seems to like that.
I don't tend to keep any touchwiz I don't use, including the launcher. It's bulky in and of itself. It can be replaced by dropping your launcher of choice in the /system /app directory, and then freezing, renaming, or removing it.
I know this isn't a correct response to your initial question, but there are so many factors that could be causing your issue, I thought I would share what works for me. Until I occasionally decide to experiment and bork my phone, this process always gives me a perfectly smooth, incredibly responsive device with no FC, lag, slow down, or other issues, and battery is at least 16 hours of high use.
My GF kept her touchwiz launcher, widgets, and wallpapers, but otherwise has the same set up, and she's been running liquid smooth for a month.
If your problem goes away after installing something, disregard this post. Lol. Every device is a little different.

This happened to me a few times with my Incredible. It was enough of a pain that i ended up uninstalling it and my phone stopped having mysterious slow downs.
I'm hoping my Fascinate has better luck with over-clocking than the incredible did... SetCPU makes me miss Govnah and the uberkernel from my Pre+

Applications not closing?

I just updated my phone to DK28 using VIPERrom's DK28 version. While testing out VIPERrom I noticed that with some applications after shutting down that their icon in the taskbar would still be. I thought maybe they just didn't shut down, but when I would re open the app via the taskbar the apps would open from the beginning, not like they have been running in the background. I've downloaded 3 different task killers, all of which can see background running processes. None of them show the applications open.
Another example, I was working out and using my music player. After working out, I killed my music player via a task killer. The music stopped playing, but the icon was still in the task bar. A couple minutes later, it starts playing again and I can't shut it down because none of the task killers show it running? Ideas?

I've had a somewhat similar problem using the Nebula Rom. What I've learned, in my case, is that even though the icon is still there, it doesn't mean they aren't shut down. But, if you want to make sure the app is closed, simply go into the App Manager, click on the app that's bugging you, and press "Force Stop". It's always worked for me.
Hope this helps!
I'll have to try that. Just kinda sucks I have to spend an extra 5 seconds to shut it done vs using task manager
Also, I reinstalled DK28 using the official thread, instead of VIPER's, and after 10 minutes of testing, that seemed to fix the problem.

If my method didn't work, then I'm not quite sure what's causing it.
No, your method did work, its just a hassle. Maybe I'll just go back to a stock phone and wait until the OTA update arrives with Dk11 in a couple days. This issue really annoys me. Is nobody else having his issue?

Uh oh... Quadrant scores lowering

ok so... when i first got shifted, first app i installed was quadrant and smartbench. now... i ran quadrant right off the bat. easy 1607 1657 and 1704
Now Im hitting 1304 1345 and 1205 (this 1 almost made me cry)
also atk'd everything (still low scores) and rebooted then atk'd, same thing
Having else having this issue?
EDIT: Scatch that! it was my lwp and widgets, man do i feel dumb XD
ANOTHER EDIT: Scratch that again , its still happening lol
Uninstall everything then reboot and try again or do a factory reset. Like it's been said before, benchmarking and real life are two different things. Try not to get too obsessive with numbers. If the phone feels like it's slowing down then start removing programs you don't use often.
There is a built in task killer. Go to settings then applications then running services. Stop programs you know what they are and do. That seems to help a little.
Try installing or stopping the ATK and running it then.

Either remove the app with titanium backup, or try using autorun killer. Either will require temp root.
Go into sync settings and disable it

LauncherPro always hanged in 2.2

I tried different leak rom before,
and right now I am using official froyo
Every time after starting up the system, or after mounting the SD card,
when the media scanning is finished, launcherpro is not responding and hanging.
Anyone got the same thing?
I dont want to send email to the author if this is an only issue of me
I think another update is coming soon for lp. I sometimes get a lockup and fc in 2.1 with lp

Same thing happens to me. I am running official Rogers Froto on my AT&T Captivate. I tried looking in the logs for something, but I couldn't find anything. Send a emails to the developer.
Yea I've tried like 20 roms.always locks up and force closes after reboot. Sometime it sits for like 5 mins before the fc message pops up. I have the plus version and running Axura 2.2.7.1 Voodoo.contacted tech support about it and he said that its my rom.can't be. tried 20 different Roms.pisses me off.

I have had this happen a couple of times as well. However, I have noticed that it only happens when I try to start opening things or moving between home screens before the media scanning has finished. If I let it do its thing, then it doesn't seem to hang ever. Still kind of annoying, and I don't know if that is the case with you all as well, but that seems to be what causes it on mine.

LP runs fine for me, but I'm having a problem having it stick as the default launcher. Whenever I use Titanium Backup or long-press the home button, I'll get the prompt asking me which home application. There are a couple of other apps that result in the same problem, but I can't think of them off the top of my head. I've tried using Home Switcher to see if that fixes it, but no luck. I have the same problem with ADW EX.
This is happening to me as well.
If it locks up, try repeatedly hitting home, usually will give me a prompt to wait or fc. I never get this issue on my galaxy tab and it's running 2.2

When lp acts funny for me I hit the power button then unlock it and that usually works for me.
LauncherPro has worked great on my device with 2.2 (Nero V5) the only time I seem to notice anything is when the media scan is finishing its thing and there are to many apps running at start up in the background. I use advance task killer to kill the apps that do not need to be running and I never seem to have the problem again until I reboot. It doesn't seem to me to be a LauncherPro issue, media scan seems to bring the device to its knees until it is finished. Once my device is running smooth I never seem to have that issue again only after I reboot my device.
Love my Vibrant and LauncherPro Plus is far better then all the other Launchers I have tried (in my humble opinion) but each of us have different needs I guess. I actually use almost everyone of the widgets and can not wait for the update coming when the gmail widget will be added to the Launcher.
cheers

I was using Nero5 and got the same problem FC alot in LauncherPro. I couldn't save the LP settings though. What seemed to fix it is removing LP and reinstall it. After that, things seem to work better and less FC with LP.
I'm using stock Froyo now with fresh LP install from the market, no FC so far. So I would say it's not LP always hanged in 2.2...but something is stuck or got carried over from previous installation/ROM. Just try remove it and reinstall LP again from Market, it should work better - at least for me, it did.

Same thing happens to mu phone on adw ex... when i turn my phone off and turn it back on, the screen goea blank, i can only see the notification bar scanning, but would hang on black screen then shuts off by itself.. that's with stock ka7.. now im on ka6 kies version and my phone is fine...
or maybe the cause was the lock screen? I used the pin code lock screen.. it could be it? Now im on ka6 official and with pattern lock screen, it seems fine... and i domt wanna try and use any other lock screen besides the pattern one. Ive done countless reflash because o this issue.. so no more flashing, lol.. but i could be wrong though, it could be something else that's causinrit, just speculating..
The only time I've experienced a FC of any kind on LPP, is when I had Colorize running with it. They don't play nice together. Other than that, it's been 100% stable for me with any rom.

Gingerbread + SenseUI slow/crashing?

Posting on behalf of my coworker, who has the EVO 4G. Ever since his Gingerbread update came out, his phone frequently flashes the "HTC" green icon on a white background, and then all his widgets need to reload their content.
To me it seems SenseUI is crashing, so I said I'd do a little research. The Search button isn't working for me though, so I hope someone can help!
(Oh, and if this is just "the way it is" is there a way for him to go back to stock Froyo without rooting?)
If you get the stock Rom img you put it on the root of the SD card then go into bootloader then wait for it to ask you if you want to update then push volume up for yes and van ha

Yea, I have to admit, that is annoying. Mine only does it when exiting some apps and seems to be very random. Sense doesn't actually crash, it just seems to have to reload, like it was stopped, or closed.
If he is not rooted, their is no way to go back to 2.2 though.

Thanks for the "bad news". Pulling the battery last night helped, he hasn't had any issues yet today. I'm wondering if Sense has a memory leak or if GB is unloading too much of its memory.
I was having the same problem since the OTA, (non-rooted, stock btw) constant Sense restarting when exiting apps or going to the home screen. On another forum thread's suggestion, I removed all task killer apps. In my case these were Android Assistant and Advanced Task Killer. Since removing those apps and rebooting earlier today, I have not seen Sense restart once. Give this a try if applicable and see if it helps.
Edit: As luck would have it, as soon as I posted it happened again after exiting the Amazon App Store.......back to the drawing board.
In my case it is definitely not a task killer, as I am not running any task killers. But it does act like it is shutting down like a task killer would do it. I even tried freeing up memory by uninstalling all system apps that I don't need. I now have more memory available than I ever have, yet it still keeps happening. I have a feeling that it is going to take another update from HTC to fix it.
I'm having the same issue.

If you want to believe the techs on Sprint EVO forum, they say that virus programs such as Lookout are at the root of some of these problems, the phone needs to be reset, and HTC sense requires the data to be erased through the application screen. I have doe the reset, and erase Sense data and still occasionally had the problem. I have now uninstalled Lookout to see if that eliminates the problem
I'm now on my second evo ad the update broke the first one...with the sense constantly crashing and random apps force closing I took it back to the store and demanded a new one...I'll not make the mistake of accepting anymore ota "updates"...

Update, I ran across a post on the Sprint forums in which someone said that HTC claimed that Sense being booted from memory and reloading when you exit some apps was caused by some virus programs. So I shut off Lookout security, and I haven't had the Sense reload problem since, been over a day now.
i dont use lookout and have the same problem. if i run any heavy apps, such as web browsing with many windows or streaming video via the browser, when i go to "home" sense has to restart. it could be just gingerbread shutting sense down to free up resources for heavy apps.
and yes, its bloody annoying.
After playing with it for three days now, I have determined to my own satisfaction that it is indeed an HTC Sense GB problem.
If I turn off all apps that actually do work when running in the background, like Lookout and SystemPanel, I do not get the Sense reload problem. Unfortunately, If I have any program running that is doing things when in the background, Sense gets booted from memory and has to reload. For example, I start a market download, and while waiting for it, I play a game of solitaire. When I exit out of the game, Sense has to reload, and more than likely the app download has to start over.
It appears to me that GB's memory management is just not working as good as it did in Froyo.

I continue to have the problem also. I do not have a virus program as I did I did not install one after my reset to factory. Where do we complain, on the Sprint forum.
This is the post and link to the thread I started on the Sprint forum:
http://community.sprint.com/baw/thread/70794
HTC Sense restarting randomly and changing the wallpaper to one that I never used on my phone, began after the first GB update. It has gotten worse after the recent update. HTC Sense restarts when leaving the market and other apps Dolphin HD Browser and others, but not in every instance.
When the phone is booting up, just before showing the lockscreenit it will show the wallpaper that is the first one in the wallpaper section the colorful one with bubbles. I have never used any of the wallpapers because I have always used the originale scene installed on the phone. Now on several occasions when the phone started it put the Wallpaper on my home screens, but did not change the apps and widgets I had on the Home Pages. Luckily I had saved my scene and was able to get it back.
My phone has been reset to factory twice, initially be me and two days ago by a Sprint tech and a sercive center.
Sprint something continues to be wrong with these updates that is affecting HTC Sense, it is broke. Please, everyone else sith HTC Sense restarting randomly or changing you wallpaper, post and describe your exact problem. Possibly we will get Sprints attention.
I took my phone to Sprint to have the cracked camera lens replaced. Instead of doing just that an idiot savant installed this gingerbread update. Not only did the update delete dozens of programs but it also caused me to have the htc logo splash page appear several times a day. I was not happy when I found out Sprint applied the update & I'm even more displeased now.
It occurs when exiting programs & entering others. However I have not been able to discern a pattern. I do have lookout installed but I do not have any task kllers installed.
