Does USB Mass Storage work for you guys? - Touch CDMA General

Just noticed that with recent builds of the Thoughtlesskyles Experimental and Not so Fresh Froyo that the USB Mass Storage function does not work at all. I tried once with the Dual Mount SD Widget (which has always worked for me), but no go. So I uninstalled it and tried the default popup method (the one where it says "Turn on USB Storage" and still no go. I've also tried downgrading the kernel from the latest 2.6.32 to the latest 2.6.25 but still nothing.
I tried the above methods on a Windows Vista and Windows 7 machine but nothing seems to work now. It's become a real PITA trying to get stuff onto the SD card.
Actually, when I come to think of it, all my problems started happening when DZO rewrote the USB driver for 2.6.32...
Can anyone tell me how you get stuff onto the SD card short of pulling it out and using an adaptor?
Thanks.

yea the windows 7 driver is really weird i havent gotten mass storage ever to work on it

My bad... I thought I was running 2.6.25 but I was wrong. I was still running 2.6.32... Just seeing RUU_Signed.nbh got me confused on what it actually was. I downloaded and flashed 2.6.25 and put Dual Mount SD Widget back on and everything is fine on my Vista machine.
I guess I'm using 2.6.25 from now on.

I too can only get mass storage to work with certain kernels. Only one 2.6.32 seems to play nicely with SD Dual Mount and that's "kaisimg-panel2-240x320-2.6.32-tilt-froyo-09-09-10_21".
I don't know what it is about that one but looks like W7/SD Dual Mount users are going to be stuck with it if they want 2.6.32 .
You'd think it would make a good project for someone to get to the bottom of this one why it doesn't work on its own . There must be plenty of us using W7 by now?

If it gets fixed that would be nice, however, the contract with my wireless carrier ends in January do I don't know how much longer I'm going to hold on to this phone.

Yes
2.6.32 - 10-1-10 - NBH kernel for VOGUES
Works with Windows 7 - I did this on Win 7 32bit
I have tested EVERY single kernel after the 10-1-10
For Vogues - they all have issues with USB, etc...
10-1-10 is the best for Vogues so far - either the .25 or the .32
you NEED the .32 kernel for the newest 2.2.1 Froyo builds
The experimental fat-free from thoughtlesskyle performs QUITE WELL with this kernel
I'm attaching the latest USB drivers (Release 3) - saves you from downloading the SDK

thanks for the info.
I'm downloading the 10-1-10-2.6.32 kernel and thoughtlesskyles odexed version right now. I'll perform a fresh install of everything on my vogue and see what happens.
Just to make sure, you didn't use any apps or widgets to assist you in connecting to the usb, correct? So when you plug in the usb and the popup says Turn on usb storage, you click it?
What happens on the Windows side? Does it say anything about installing a driver?
Thanks.

Yea happened to me. As you may know, Windows 7 and Vista try to automatically retrieve a driver from the net. And while your phone is plugged in and you go into the computer manager to see the list of devices/components, you will see something like adb interface and under that htc dream driver. not exactly sure as i am in mac os x right now. any whoo, i think this is the cause for the sudden malfunction of the usb mass storage. (it used to work in windows, but not anymore) however, it still works in ubuntu and mac os x

But if you use that 1-10-10 kernel, you might have problem with moving apps to phone.

dual mount sd share widget still working with the 10-1-10-2.6.32 kernel but not the latest ones.

Yup, .25 same date working too but not the later ones. I wonder what happened that broke it again .

Try the 10-31-10 2.6.25 NBH kernel available from above link
Just flashed this kernel on my Vogue
USB functions are fine - no problems
I can't tell about Apps2SD though - never used/tried that feature

Phone is showing as CD Drive on PC

So today I had to visit the local VZW store to get my SD Card replaced because it was corrupted somehow, and now whenever I mount the sd card on my pc it shows up as a CD Drive and I am unable to access it. I've tried mounting it on another pc and it works perfectly fine though which leads me to believe its something to do with my pc. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the usb drivers 3 times now and getting no where fast, anyone have an idea on what I can do?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
BTW, running DJ05 w/ Geeknik 1.5.4 kernel with Super clean, but I dont think it has anything to do with it as even stock out of the box it wont detect it.

LOL!
Try using Windows System Restore to revert back to SEVERAL days before a known-good date. Otherwise you may need to reformat and move this to a Windows Support Forum. If you need professional assistance, i run a tech support company and could have someone walk you through the whole process via phone and internet for $50.

No access to SD card
I'm having a similar problem with mine as well. I installed DJ05 and ever since I haven't been able to access my card. I'm not an expert but I don't think it's windows. The reason I say that is because I have tried it on two different pc's, one with XP and the other with Win 7. I have no problem connecting my wife's Droid to either machine. The only way I have been able to access my card is by turning on usb debugging plug in the usb cable and reboot the phone. This works one time, so each time I want to access the card I have to repeat the steps. I know this may not be exactly what you are looking for but maybe it will help in your efforts to find a solution. If anyone can help I would appreciate it as well. Thanks
I am willing to bet the OP is running windows XP. This, among many other problems, was apparent when using mass storage devices. Common reasons were system not up to date, or the more common, infected system. Many systems I work with have some malware causing the problem you describe.
After 43 minutes on the phone with Verizon they also couldn't figure out what my problem is. I recieved a new phone today and is well. Thanks for the help.
boot into Clock work recovery (red voodoo one)
Mount SD card
then reboot the phone while plugged in and it should be fine

[Q] USB mass storage not working on windows with SwiftDroid (v2.0 M4) by Mur4ik

I am unable to mount my SD when connected to windows. Its works fine on my Linux workstation. I am running SwiftDroid (v2.0 M4) by Mur4ik and its a clean install with Dalvik cache wiped clean. Does anyone know solution to this. Windows tries to install LG USB drivers when I connect my phone. All I want is to mount my SD so that I can access it from windows.

This is a known issue with SwiftDroid 2.0 M4
Well check you have all the drivers installed correctly first reboot, unplug the cable and plug again.
I had the same issue but I fixed it by installing all drivers and when it says new hardware just pick auto install
install all necessary drivers and it will work with M4 -> i tried today about 10times and it works
get drivers here: ht*p://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1035853&highlight=drivers
Any another way to use same without installing drivers?

Actually the drivers were working fine initially. That how I was able to upgrade my phone from stock ROM to swiftdroid. If I go back to Eclair versions (data2sys versions), it works again. But If I go to gingerbread version ( both Murik and yours data2sys version), it stops working.
Seems like no one else is seeing this problem. So it must be something stupid that I am doing.

Then is the rom that is not compatible with your sdcard i guess, which sdcard are you using?. Im not sure if running a script will solve the problem i saw a script somewhere but i dont remeber where, if someone here master in linux knows it, please post it!

Thanks everyone. Actually I have decided to go back to 2.1 due to battery issues. In 2.1, my SD card works fine anyway. SO its no longer an issue for me.
Maybe I will come back to 2.3.x soon. You all are doing amazing job. Thanks.
I'm on windows vista and fastboot, adb and USB mass storage seem to be working fine.
I had the exact same problem until recently .
The isssue is driver related - drivers for 2.1 and 2.3 aren't all the same .
Fixed it by uninstaling all LG drivers using device menager ( right click on my computer ) , and after that instaling this driver pack mediafire.com/?59v94x0694pdxj7 ( it contains all drivers needed ) . All i did after is pluged in my phone and it autoinstaled a few more drivers and after MASS storage worked just fine .
P.S same goes if any1 has device not found using ADB bridge ...
OS win7 32bit
I hope this helps if you have any questions feel free to ask

No access to my SDcard from my computer with USB

Hello all !
Everything is on the title.
However, my computer detect the phone (from the disk manager and other program).
I updated the pilots (from Kies), but nothing change =/
From the device manager, I can see a yellow triangle next to my phone : so, it's problem with the pilots.. But they are updated !
I searched a file with them, but I didn't find it..
So, a solution ?
Thanks !
PS : I have this problem since I tried to flash my phone with the last Lestatious ROM.
Have you selected the "mass storage" option?
If you have MTP driver fail then you have to update your Windows.

I'm always using the mass storage option, the begug USB is always set on.
What's MTP driver ? And what do you mean by "update your Windows" ?
Thx !
There is a known issue with old MTP USB drivers(used to connect our devices). I had it too. I looked for windows updates(not new windows version). I mean the patches. I updated them and it worked.
But is your phone recognized by KIES or ADB?
Same problem!!
Guys,
I'm having the same problem. When i use stock i5801DDJP2 and connect to mass storage everything is fine. But after flashing to Kyrillos' or Indroid's ROM with Fugumod Kernel v2.4 beta 3, when i try to connect to mass storage via USB my PC is not detecting my SD card. Don't know what to do.. Any solutions pls??...
EDIT: Sometimes Kies detects my SD card. But not always. And as for ADB, it recognizes the device as an Android device but i'm not sure what to do.

If you have problem with a custom rom then it's better to ask the developer. They know the bugs and the solutions!

SD card not recognized!
Hey Vermillon,
U found a solution yet? i tried everything to my knowledge(which is not much )But nothing yet. it worked when i flashed with stock i5801zhjpf. But after flashing to kyrillos the problem was back.. No luck so far. Can't connect USB storage.
I downloaded a mtp patch, but it didn't solved the problem.
News : I plugged the micro-Sdcard into my computer, and I still can't access to it.
However, my SDcard works, I can take pictures or ad files on it (thx dropbox).
So : the problem is from the SDcard ? Or from the firmware (even the stock XXJPM) which avoid the Sdcard to connect ?
OK ! I've the solution !
Use Linux to connect your phone (I'm running a live Ubuntu, and it works).
I have excactly the same Problem, but unfortunatley im not a linux user, and i dont want to install linux just to connect to the sdcard in my mobile phone.
Maybe someone finds a solution for windows users, i tried already all i could think of including the *#7284# i found in another forum.
I too have same problem. Forcing me to use card reader.

Just install Ubuntu on a USB-key, it's easy even for a newbie !
Then, just run it, not installing !

Well, if you can still use the card reader, where's the problem ? I'd say "lucky you !"
For me the SDCard Reader Solution is workling as well, but its not very comfortable to remove the SDCard from the Phone everytime i want to copy some stuff.
I'm going to try the Ubuntu Solution as well, but i think there must be another way, it seems to be a problem with the Kyrillios Rom, after i flashed it, the problem occured.

The problem comes from the pilot : in the device manager, Windows indiquates an error code 10, which mean "can't start".
We have to follow this way...

[Q] SD Card not mountable during ROM Flash, update not possible

Hi guys,
I got me a Defy and wanted to flash CM7/CM9. I got a few problems:
1. What did I do until now?
I rooted with Super one click, es it didn't work with the pushing and exploting the rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin (after exploiting, if the Defy did it properly, it used to exit from shell and the phone remained offline, so no more action could be performed with adb).
Also, ClockworkMod Recovery is installed.
I used this and another push/chmod approach: Cyanogenmod Wiki /Motorola_Defy:_Full_Update_Guide
2. Problem A)
When putting the CM Update zips on the SD card and booting, it will say it can't mount the SD Card.
I mixed some things up and tried to make the SD card mountable again with this approach (last paragraph): Cyanogenmod.com /index.php?title=Motorola_Defy:_Full_Update_Guide&oldid=13776#Problems_with_Android_2.1
By typing too fast i added two incorret entries (shouldn't be a problem).
Somewhere than I read, installing CM7 is only possible with Android 2.2. My Phone says the following:
- System version: Blur_Version.2.51.1.MB525.Retail.en.DE
- Firmware version: 2.1-update1
- Kernel version 2.6.29
3. Problem B)
So I thougth, next approach should be updating to Froyo. Sadly, Motorola Software Update doesn't recognize my phone, wheter with drivers from first link above nor with the drivers that come with the Update center (frankly, I haven't tried first link driver only but Software Update only and both togheter).
Several wipes and factory resets didn't help.
Any thoughts how I could fix this and get me a CM7? Best would be without loosing garantee (I mean sticking with an official software version as downgrade possibility). Should I have updated without ClockworkMod installed? Could return the phone and get me a new one if necessary.
Thanks for your help.
Edit: Is it possible that Motorola Update doesn't work with Win7 64Bit at all?
1st of all you MUST have froyo kernel (but certainly not eclair) before you can install Cm7 properly!
2nd it seems that your SD Card could be corrupted. It's important to eject your device from Windows PC properly before unplugging it. Otherwise you can corrupt your sdcard and/or internal memory.
Here is how you fix both your SD Card and internal FAT32 memory.
1) Plug in the device to the PC.
2) In Android turn on USB
3) The removable drives will show up in Windows.
4) Do one drive at a time. Right click on the removable drive and select Properties.
5) In this screen click the tools tab. Under error checking click the check now button
6) On this screen click the box "Automatically fix errors" and click start.
7) When it finishes it will either tell you if fixed problem or not.
8) If it did fix problems then you will find on the removable drive a folder called FOUND.000, FOUND.001, etc. You can delete those as they are broken files that got corrupt and you probably can’t do anything with them anyway!
9) Now eject the drives properly and you done.
Hope that helps.
Aw, men! I used not to eject any devices from my computer
I will try repairing and the the Software Update Center again.
If not, anybody knows which SBF file from sbf.droid-developers.org/umts_jordan/list.php is the one I would get after updating? I really don't get this list at all.
Thanks.
Ok I checked the sd card and there were no problems. So I switched to "Portal and tools" to check the Defy itself. The the first time Motohelper popped up and said something like:
"Starting the software not possible. In order to start Motorola Phone Portal you have to shut down all Motorola PC software and your phone has to be in one of the following modes: PC Mode, PC Tools or Portal Tools [not readable].
Open USB connection on your device and select either PC Model, PC Tools or Portal Tools"
This message keeps poping up if USB Debugging keeps enabled. Once I disable it and select Portal and tools again no pop up happens but no software (at least visible) starts. Should there pop up something? Start Motorola Phone Portal at device plug in is enabled. Or is this a normal behaviour at all?
Thanks.
Check out device manager in your windows if you have any question marks after connecting your defy to it properly (usb debugging and phone portal on). Maybe you do need some extra drivers on this one.
Well, now i got tired of this and I flashed a SBF with Froyo. Now I`ll trie flashing CM again.
Thanks anyway!

No MTP over USB with any AOSP ROM

I'm having an issue with file transfer where my computer can't 'see' the phone when an AOSP ROM is installed.
File transfer is fine when mounting in recovery, also when I have OOS installed, so it isn't a hardware problem.
I've gone through the forum searching for a solution, and I have:
Changed the default USB configuration (under Developer options) to MTP
Uninstalled the phone from Device Manager on my computer
Tried installing OnePlus drivers to my computer
Tried installing Qualcomm drivers to my computer
Can anyone suggest a solution? I'm desperate to get this sorted as I can't tolerate OOS any longer, I just want a cleanish build of Android with no OnePlus rubbish in it!
I join your quest man... Im looking for the solution for this problem since i have installed my first AOSP rom on OP5... Never find the solution, i'm curious for this too... Now im on PureFusion and MTP of course isnt working... so i use recovery for file transfer (which is annoying) or the WiFi server (which is slow and isnt "operations" friendly)
In the same time cant understand why my nexus 6p with PureNexus is fully working in MTP but the oneplus 5 nope

I know it's windows fault because when it have too many drivers to manage for the same thing it goes crazy.. but even removing every single driver (ADB and Android related) it doesn't work.. I'm looking in a solution on the Linux build called "forget windows use Linux" since I can't completely remove windows 10
I had same issue in Linux
Typically, issue is not the ROM
1) check the phone get set to "file transfer" when connected, you generally have option to chose
2) plugging to a usb in chain to other switches it was not work, connected directly to a usb MB port, worked.
